When the people (in this case, the person) preparing the food are/is excited about the food, I get excited, because you know it's going to be a great meal. Our lunch there was quick, cheap, and delicious. They have great meat--the roast beef just melts in your mouth--and crusty but soft bread from local Maranto's bakery in Lexington Market. Add to that a SLICE of mac and cheese (eastern shore style), some buttery not-quite-Manhattan style clam chowdah, and you'll be asking someone to roll you home, just like I was. Dinner looked exciting too. These folks do not take food for granted.

It is virtually impossible to have a bad meal here. The lunch menu is consistent and hearty, with staple sandwiches given a SoBo touch (e.g., traditional vegetarian powerhouse gets a kick from tangy basil vinaigrette), and the dinner menu is an ever-changing tour around the globe, with caribbean, spanish, and indian influences. either go early or plan to sit at the bar, because it will get crowded!

My wife and I decided to check this place out one Saturday night. It was either find a hole in the wall place in the city or head out to Columbia for the chains and restaurant row. I'm glad I chose this place instead.
Everyone raves about G&Ms being the best place for crab cakes in MD, but to be honest, I think Sobo might have the best crab cakes bar none. They were huge, made with really juicy lump crab meat and only lightly fried. Two of them piled on top of a delicious pile of mashed potatoes and some greens. Fantastic!
It really is too loud in there though. Wood floors in a closed room make the sound bounce around.
Funky restaurant, feels like in San Francisco. Creative menu, nouveau american with a twist. Colorful place, and there is lots to do in the area, should it be too crowded.
The menu changes almost every day! I love to take both locals who have never been and out-of-towners. So-Bo is situated across Charles street from cross st market. They always offer a great variety of home-style american food with really cool (dare I say trendy?) twists. Dishes you wish your mom could have made. The wine list is great, too.
The only complaint I have about this place is that it tends to be noisy because of the small size of the dining room. But totally worth the food.
