I am seeing Dr. Brody for my wrist and Dr. Thabit for my knee. These people are miracle workers! I saw an incompetent boob 4 years ago for my 1st ACL reconstruction. It is was never really right. So I saw Dr. T at SOAR. Within 10 minutes he knew the problem. An MRI a few days later confirmed. My first ACL reconstruction was insanely painful and I was very nervous about having it done again. Dr. T took excellent care of me. The difference in this surgery was night and day. I had significantly less pain and less swelling and no wound oozing. My recovery is moving at twice the speed this time. If I could give these guys 10 stars I would.

What a great professional organization.

Here's the setup.  I live in Texas but am on assignment in the Bay Area. I developed major pain in my ankle, so was looking for an orthopedic practice. My health insurance company pointed me towards SOAR, so I made an appointment. The SOAR scheduler (Yolanda) got me in very promptly and I saw Dr. Olaf.

Very professional, excellent diagnosis - he nailed it! Blood tests confirmed the diagnosis and I am now working with my internist back in Texas.

The most impressibe thing is that it wasn't an orthopedic problem at all! It turned out to be something else, but still - even though it was not Dr. Olaf's speciality - he was extremely professional, accurate and quick.

Thanks to the team at SOAR.

Chris

These guys impressed me.  I've been to back specialists at UCSF and St Francis Medical Center and gotten vague, unhelpful recommendations after long waits and at great expense.  I saw Joel Saal within a few days of calling the center.  He gave me a more precise diagnosis, he ruled out the previous docs' suggestions to roll the surgical dice, and he articulated a more coherent treatment plan than anyone else.  I felt in dramatically better hands than I had before.

If you're having back trouble, make this your first stop.

I have seen Dr. Barry, Dr. Sobel and Dr. Gamburd. All the doctors here are great. If I could rate the office staff and administration on a separate review, they'd get one star. They are inefficient and such a pain to deal with. If my doctors weren't so great, I would be tempted to switch!

I first learned of SOAR when my wife broke a bone in her foot a couple years ago.  She was very happy with the service she received from an ortho physician at SOAR.

So when I had shoulder weakeness earlier this year, I talked to an MD friend of mine who had just completed rotator cuff surgery himself and he referred me to several doctors, one of which was Dr. Wall at SOAR.  I had my surgery by Dr. Wall in early February.  I am still building strength since the surgery, so I can't yet claim its fully successful.  But my physical therapist commented that Dr. Wall's patients seem to rehab faster than others.  I am optimistic about my outcome and would refer any friend to SOAR and Dr. Wall.

Choosing an orthopaedic or sports medicine doctor is a toughie.  You have a pain or an injury...you want to get back to normal and hopefully not mess it up worse than it is...but you also don't want to go overboard and do a surgery that might not be necessary.

Dr. Gamburd at SOAR is definitely your guy.  The whole operation there is focused on healing - not surgery.  If there's a way to address your problem that doesn't require surgery, they'll do that first.  They're not avoidant of surgery...they just don't believe that surgery should generally be the first option in most cases.

I had a shoulder that was tight and ached for 4 years.  When I finally got my act together and was referred to SOAR and assigned to Dr. Gamburd, he conjectured that the problem was a nerve problem, not a muscular problem.  He ordered an MRI...and confirmed that I had a bone spur in my neck that was pinching a nerve and causing my muscles to over-compensate and tighten to protect it.

Although I assumed some surgery would be necessary, Dr. Gamburd believes in trying non-surgical conservative methods first.  He prescribed some strong anti-inflammatories and, lo and behold, two weeks later the pain is gone...and never returned.  It's now 3 years since I was treated and I'm pain free in that shoulder.

I've now been back to him again for a lower back issue and again, even with another physician urging surgery, he has put me on the road to recovery with a more conservative treatment and I'm feeling great.

I'd recommend him to ANYONE.  The last time I saw him he wasn't even covered by my current medical insurance...he's just worth the investment in my health and I trust him completely.

So I've had two knee surgeries done by Dr. Donahue, and he's great.  I had an ACL surgery a year ago that had failed, so he had to do some revision surgeries.  i had been in pain, had a few diagnoses, and Dr. Donahue was the only one who was right.  He definitely knows his shit.   All the staff is friendly and sporty; last time I went in they were whining about the Chargers loss to the Pats.
Soar does all the surgeries for the 49ers, and are apparently renowned for sports medicine.  Dr. Dillingham is supposed to be pretty good too, but I think he's booked a lot more than Dr. Donahue, since he's been around longer.
Definitely glad I chose them to get my knee figured out.

This place has really helped me get back on my feet. I'd seen 5 specialists before I was finally referred to SOAR by my physical therapist. I wish I'd gone here before I had lower back surgery! The surgery on my L5/S1 that I had at UCSF didn't go very well and Dr. Jeff at SOAR has played a large part in helping my back recover. He's a very nice guy and really listened to my problems. The nurses are very nice too. I highly recomend this place to anyone in pain! They actually care!
