6 reviews for Snuggery Union Train Station
My gimp, drink loving buddy wanted to get a quick (read: 8 minutes or less) beer before he embarked on his 45 hour journey to the west coast. We stopped in here and were greeted by smiley and talkative and cute wait staff (one was wearing a easter bunny outfit... damn) that gave us the run down on how we could take our beers to go (seriously, it's like Vegas in here).
The decor is awesome--like a college party bar from the early 80s that never had been updated. I'm sure this place is a suburban meat market (or most likely, 40 year old sausage fest) in the hours before the Metra trains leave each day. I'll have to come check that out.
(Note: I'm just guessing this is the name of the bar-- I assume there's only one bar in Union station)
Hey, Snuggery! Thanks for turning the basement lights back down to cave levels. It was just what my misanthropic co-worker and I needed to scarf down our lunches. (And I'm being absolutely serious, here). The speaker above my head was giving off a nice 60-cycle hum between obnoxious announcements about not accepting help from strangers (What, you're my Mom now?).
The Snuggery is once again ripe for the next Bukowski to get a head start on that novel with a Bloody Mary at 9am, or the next corrupt State politician to accept a nice Thank-You-package, helping him get elected to the U.S. Senate!

I love the tag line - 'A commuter bar located in Union Station.'
This is a nice little below ground level place to grab a drink or two after work. Plus they have that tv trivia game which is fun even if you are just watching.
The waitress is a little MILFy too for good measure.
This place is creepy. I always hit it up when I have to take the train home for Xmas, Thanksgiving etc. Its funny though, when you order wine, they ask if you want a large or a small. I always go for the large which is like a 7-11 big gulp. They actually pull a box of Franzia out of the cooler and fill a huge cup full of wine. Wierd. I drink it though.
The clientèle is mainly the surburban commuters trying to squeeze in one last cocktail before the ride back to the family. Its a very depressing place. Not even the big gulp of wine could cheer this place up.
Snuggery is definitely NOT as shady or depressing as I had found it to be on previous visits during train layovers. First, the smoking ban instantly elevated the ambiance. Second, the bartender is super friendly. I playfully called her on her successful upselling tactics ("Sure, make it a double!"), but she was cool about it. Third, the Bloody Mary was fantastic, made with a proprietary mix that wasn't too tomato-y or thick, and topped with just a trickle of beer. Fourth, the video trivia game was a fun way to kill time between trains. I had a few other youngish folks as competition, and it was a good icebreaker. I'd definitely be more confident about returning than I had been in the past.
Had a long day counting beans and need a drink for the long train ride home? Check out this place in the middle of the train station. You can pull up a stool and wait for your departure time while slugging down a couple of the drink specials or get a martini to go and enjoy it on your ride. Good end to a long tedious day.
