The best vegan / vegetarian food in the Park Slope area.
You order at the counter, find a seat (if you can) and they usually bring you your food before you can come back to get it. The service is great and the outdoor seating, while limited, is an added bonus on a nice day.
The food is AWESOME - they have really great sandwiches (I recommend the vegan panini) in addition to vegan cookies and pastries. A great stop off on the way to work, they always make me a bagel with fakin' bacon when I can't stay to eat a messier dish.
Four stars instead of five because this area can get a bit annoying with trophy moms and god forbid you come here when yoga class gets out.
'Snice it is not. I told them when I ordered NOT to put blue cheese on my buffalo wrap. I told them twice. I told them I could die if I ate it. When the wrap arrived, I asked if it had blue cheese. Sure enough, it did. How did they apologize for almost killing me? They gave me a small, stale sugar cookie. Well, gee, thanks.
If a place can't be bothered to not kill you, it's not worth going there. Not even for a sugar cookie.
I nearly always buy a banana chocolate chip muffin here. It's probably one of the best muffins I've ever had, hands down. I bet even non-vegans would love it. Their other snacks/pastires, teas, and food is all fresh and delicious. I've gotten the chick pea curry wrap, which was awesome. The prices are kind of high ($8.75 for sandwiches/salads), but reasonable for Park Slope. The portions are huge and when you order a sandwich to stay, you get a side salad as well. People are usually very friendly but once during lunch hour, a guy dished me some sass. He acted like a drama queen. I know it was busy, but he actually rolled his eyes in my face when I accidentally said "shake" instead of "smoothie."
I still love them anyway.
Free wi-fi is great!
The place isn't 100% vegan. They have some cheese and some pastries with dairy and egg. Their selection of vegan sweets beats any other cafe's in Brooklyn!
I'm already dreaming about my next banana chocolate chip muffin....
As a passionate eater and a vegetarian, finding a treasure like 'Snice is a bit like Christmas morning, or the feeling you get when you leave work at 5pm on friday and know that you have an amazing weekend ahead of you - BLISS, that's the feeling.
The food is delicious, beautifully prepared and of generous proportion. The staff was incredibly kind and patient, despite the line out the door (that moved very quickly, I might add).
The three of us each ordered different menu items (autumn salad, smoked tempeh wrap and the tempeh reuben) and couldn't decide what was the better of the three... they were all so wonderful - ordering just ONE thing off the menu during my next visit is going to be a challenge.
It appears you can't go wrong at 'Snice.
Oooohhhhh I love the oatmeal! I am not even a oatmeal person but when I come here every Wed & Fri morning and get my oatmeal with the works...it is soooo good! Also the people at the counter keep me coming back...they are so sweet!
The grilled broccoli is amazing!!! Love the quinoa salad with tofu - so delicious. The staff is really friendly too. I love this place. Fresh coffee, terrific food, and quick service.
I love this place. Not only is every meal the same price (under $10!) but everything is organic, but there are vegan and vegetarian options. The quinoa salad is really great (quinoa=the healthiest grain known to man. Seriously.). Very cozy and delicious.
I am not vegan or vegetarian but as a meat eater this place rocks! They're "cuban" tastes like a ham and cheese sandwich and their "fontina" tastes somewhat like an italian dream. This is no way an upscale restaurant but a great eatery where your food comes out incredibly fast and is incredibly cheap! It's a coffee place as well with free wi-fi. A friend took me here after she raved about the sandwiches and the outdoor seating. Also, cash only... worth it!
Mostly solid vegan food...not the best I've had, but their seitan is far better than my homemade failures (not that it's hard to surpass that). My favorites are the curried cauliflower wrap, bbq seitan, and chicken pot pie wrap. Sometimes the wraps feel a little dry, but I have that problem with wraps in general. The chocolate soy shake might seem a little pricey at 5.50, but it's one of the best things on the menu, I swear.
Great food.
Great Prices.
Best Veggie Burrito I've had since moving to NYC.
The vegans out there shouldn't pass it up.
Freaking delicious. Philly cheese seitan was amazing. They have Daiya cheese which melts beautifully and tastes great! $9 for a sandwich, but it was good size and came with a salad. Cool atmosphere and nice people working.
Why do almost all the vegetarian places in San Francisco have to be insanely overpriced, super snooty, or just plain not very good?
I was thrilled to come into a reasonably priced vegetarian cafe that had a huge selection of different sandwiches and snacks to choose from. I ended up ordering the "Thai" wrap which had peanut sauce. While the wrap was good I agree with others who said that the fake meat was too salty.
My sister's had the quinoa salad and smoked mozzarella sandwich respectively and I tasted each and thought they were better than my wrap.
The atmosphere was loud with tons of little kids running around making it a place that would be difficult to really relax or get work done.
Overall a great place with some kinks to work out. If it was in San Francisco I would return in a heartbeat!
The wraps with fake meat are awful. Extremely salty. I came with 3 friends- two of us ordered wraps we barely touched. I had the buffalo "chicken" wrap and my friend had the thai wrap. My other friend ordered a standard sundried tomato/cheese panini, which was decent. The outdoor seating is nice, and I like that you can just order a drink, sit outside, and read. Portions are very large.
I noticed everyone else around me had either a panini or a salad. Maybe everyone already knows better than to order the fake meat items. Trust me guys, vegetarian does not have to equal a salty, flavorless mess.
I didn't eat here, but I did join friends in their outdoor area last night to enjoy the warm weather. I had a good, tart lemonade. My friend had the qinoa salad which looked yummy.
They have a full coffee shop with yummy looking pastries and cookies plus sandwiches and salads etc. And, they have free wi-fi.
Best part: when we left because they were closing they put the basket of bagels out and paper bags and told us to go to town. Yay, free bagels!
This vegetarian place serves some solid veggie dishes, and there are some others that will make you thankful you're not dependent on tempeh alone.
The vegetable/grain-focused dishes are fine and good (quinoa salad, the roasted vegetable sandwich, the cauliflower hummus wrap), but some of the imitation meat dishes miss the mark by quite a bit (the "general tso" chicken wrap, the "cheese steak").
During the day, parents let their kids run rampant (to be expected in the Slope), but coupled with the borderline snooty atmosphere that prevents computer use at the majority of the tables before 3 PM even if you're paying for a meal, it's not always the most welcoming of spots if you're looking to hang out for an extended period of time.
Today was my second time eating here. So far, the food has been just okay. Last time I had a black bean, quinoa salad and the avocado was rock-hard. This time I had the burrito and it was nothing special. While the vegan/vegetarian food has not impressed me, the vibe has.
At first I was a little scared of the super-friendly, laid-back attitude of the workers but then I found out that they are from California- duh, makes sense. And I also found out where the name S'nice originated from- it was how the owner's pot dealer in Cali used to describe his new sh*t- "try some, S'nice". Ok dude, now that really explains the vibe.
And it' S'nice to have such a relaxed atmosphere to eat in. You can sit and do paper work, study, read, sunbath (outside), or chat for hours after completing your meal. The have a good cafe-selection to go with your extended stay. I completed two hours of paper work after finishing my meal and also learned a little about ovaries and pregnancy hormones from the [im guessing midwife] students who were studying next to me. Awesome.
'Sgross.
You know what would make this vegetarian, knit-cap, under-arm hair, over-priced juice/sandwich place to "'snice?": meat.
The Reuben's pretty good though.
Everyone knows 'Snice has the best vegan sandwiches and wraps. But I'm going to say 'Snice has now surpassed Vegan Treats with the best baked goods. They make all their stuff at this location and a lot of it is made more "healthy" with spelt flour or unrefined sugar. Get on that.
Great sandwiches and salads for us non-meat eaters. The menu is mostly solid, although a few items are a little bland (Smoked Tempeh wrap, Philly cheese). Mostly it's good, hearty, affordable vegetarian fare. Nice selection of teas and vegan deserts also.
BOURGIE BOURGIE BOURGIE
which is fine, I do enjoy the aesthetic of wealth and laughing at white liberalism (I still don't understand the hipster phenomenon of gaining "authenticity" through faux poverty).
ANYWAY, the food here is delicious...you know if you're into the vegan sort of thing. The brie arugula sandwich with raspberry spicy mustard is AMAZING. I may even dare to say to die for. Everything I've gotten here is awesomely fresh, and the portions are large. No complaints. The wonderful thing about vegetarian food for me too is that there is no food coma to ruin your afternoon.
It's pretty easy to feel out of place here though, if you're not the park slope archetype, but whatever, get over it. enjoy your food.
This place is great!
I love that the menu is filled with delicious and satiating vegetarian options. I love the bright light that filters into this 'snice location. I also think the workers are just darling! My favorite sandwiches are the grilled vegetable panini, the smoked tempeh wrap, and the tri color panini. The breakfast options are great too! The only downside is that it can be a little pricy - but you are paying for fresh and wholesome food. They do give away free bagels before they close in the evening. I personally wasn't a fan of the "chicken" peanut wrap - but I've never been a fan of fake meats. I would definitely recommend this place for a great breakfast or lunch.
A relaxing place for dinner on weekdays. Weekends are a bit hectic. Love the outdoor seating and close proximity to The Gate. But do not bring your laptop from noon to 3pm on weekdays or anytime on weekends. They don't like that. Too crowded.
In a word... Awesome.
The food is fresh, flavorful and fantastic. The owners and servers are very nice, the location is perfect, sunny and cozy, whilst having enough tables to accommodate a good number of people, breeders and non-breeders alike.
Love it.
Two stars for your vegan cupcakes. for senor crankypants who says enough with cupcakes and don't order dessert here- wtf? Their cupcakes rule! Enough with cupcakes? There's a lot of shit much more worth it to be pissed about than a fucking vegan cupcake. Like pesto. Or NAFTA.
Two stars for not having wi-fi. Yeah, that's right, out you go people. Make room!
Two stars for satisfying my vegan/vegetarian friends.
Negative one star for being all...hippyish. I mean I know in my brain it's fine. But my soul, my soul doesn't like it.
Negative one star for being one of those places that names vegetarian food as if it weren't. "Philly cheese steak"? Please. I'm going to open an all meat restaurant that serves "carrots" and "salad".
I didn't realize I hadn't written a review for 'Snice.
All I really have to say is:
Really good sandwich.
That's all you need to know. I enjoy my meat, so don't be put off by all the vegan hype (nonsense). Even omnivores can appreciate a hit of veggies.
Great place for lunch or quick snack-coffee break
Tables near outlets, free wifi, decent coffee, good food, and superbly awesome staff makes this one of my favorite places to do work.
this is weird... when I first wrote this review, I swear I was reviewing the main location in the West Village. But somehow, it's showing up as a review of the Brooklyn location. I guess I could have made a mistake, but this is seriously strange.
I still like them, even if their coffee sucks, because I can't get the vegan red velvet cakes anywhere else... mmm.. so good.

The owners are what make this place rock. They get it. The food is pretty damn good - and great vegan options. The barristas are cool, and they'll refill your tea for ya with a smile. The sandwiches are snice, though a lot of Mock for my taste. Service is friendly, fast and unobtrusive.
Scary when the babymakers roll in and shove chairs aside to make room for their carriages. At least the freelancers hold court with their yerba mates using the free wi-fi. Kettle. Black. Love u 'Snice!
"'snice" is a pretty awful name for such a great place; I'm a fan of the original 'snice in the Meat Market district (45 8th Avenue, Manhattan) and decided to head over to the Brooklyn one today since I was at the flea market a few blocks away.
They offer all the favorites of the original; I had the Thanksgiving Leftovers sandwich, which is exactly what it sounds like: Tofurky with cranberries, sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts and gravy on a Kaiser roll. Rynn Berry, the author of The Vegan Guide to New York City also says he thinks they have the best sandwiches in the city.
I also took home a couple of their amazing muffins, and a red velvet cupcake (be still, my heart!) 'snice delivers, they have Wi-Fi, and they offer a home-like atmosphere to kick back and surf or read--you can only use your laptop at the communal tables, however.
My Thai chicken wrap (recommended by the staff themselves) was nowhere near appetizing! Ugh, I literally washed one half of the wrap down with my drink. And my friends Buffalo 'chicken' wrap was oh-so salty!... Whats funny is that we had heard good reviews - maybe it was just too hot a day, or that me and my friends were famished and had high expectations. The fact is I wont be back if I'm in Brooklyn again. I'd rather try some other new place out.
In my humble opinion, the sandwich is the greatest invention since, well, sliced bread. No time is a bad time for junk (and I mean this as a compliment) wrapped, piled, or stuffed on to a blessed carbo wrapper. So when we discovered that S'nice had deigned to come to Brooklyn we were psyched. Now, I'm not the coolest or cutest, but I'm not sure how much more sighing I can take from the counter guys who look at me, all sloe-eyed and bored, when I ask for my usual tempeh wrap (no avocado). Honestly, the dude stifled a yawn the other day. My girl tries to vary her order - faves include the burrito and the reuben (yes please) - but there's still the same too cool `tude. I'm not asking them to toss up balloons, but it might be s'nice to not feel like my order is, like, so bourgie. Oh, and most of their cake (because I love cake as much as I love sandwiches) is delicious but do not under any circumstance order the ginger/apricot/almond bundt. Save your dough and buy a bag of Domino's. Yes, it's that sweet. But I digress. After all that, it's still a really good place to go and get a sammie before rolling out into the summer heat. I'll just make sure to get my cool-on before I go.
Easily the group favorite of our weekend in Brooklyn. We were traveling with a vegetarian, so this was a good excuse for a "reformed" vegetarian like myself to revisit his culinary past. The Tofu Club was our favorite choice (we shared), followed very closely by the BBQ Seitan Sandwich w/ house slaw, and the Pear & Brie Panini. All were top-notch and prepared with love, but the Tofu Club was the all around winner. It was a surprisingly filling late lunch that held us over for the evening. Highly recommended for both vegans/vegetarians and the veggie-curious, as the "fake" meats are rather convincing in their flavor.
I also wanted to mention the Grown Up Soda (GuS), a 100% natural, kosher, caffeine-free sodas made for adult palettes made right here in NYC. I had the dry cranberry lime and it was very refreshing. It reminded me of what I drink at home, juices cut with sparkling water, and really hit the spot. More info at http://www.drinkgus.com/
YUM! I've been wanting to try this place for awhile now. I finally went the other night and had a hard time deciding what to get. I chose the tempeh reuben...but then I saw that they had a cuban with soy ham so I switched my order to that. And was pleased that I did! It's not quite as hearty as the veggie cuban at Curly's Vegetarian Lunch, but it was still enough food and really tasty.
So next time I go back, I will have to try the tempeh reuben. And then go back and try everything else!
Oh - and I was there at closing time, and one of the staff announced that they would be closing soon, then plopped down a basket of bagels and some brown paper bags for anyone to take with. Free bagels = awesome, not to mention they were BIG AND CRUSTY free bagels!
My date and I grabbed a quick bite here before dinner on Mott St. in Chinatown. We split the caramelized red onions and arugula panini with fontina and sun-dried tomato pesto ($7.50). It was a nice sized sandwich that came with mesclun salad. (The shaved carrot ribbons were kind of hard to eat...messy, but once you got the handle on it, it was fine.) The panini was GREAT. We sat outside in these family-style picnic-like benches. Warm evening, orange sunset, great sandwich.
Let's take a cue from 'Snice, here, V-Spot, and do vegan the right way.
First off, great coffee (as a coffee shop should); this should entice you to keep coming back over and over to 'Snice. Gorilla's got a mean monopoly in the North Slope and 'Snice is just far enough down to make the baby-strollers detour on Fifth Avenue.
Secondly, great food! The vegan salads are tasty without being kitschy in their use of alternate products, and the sandwiches are pretty awesome. Yeah, so it's not entirely vegan, but who cares if it is when you know Press 195 is gunning up for competition?
More delicious park food in the Slope. I dig.
(It was really tempting to put a 'Snice pun in here somewhere, but i refrained. That's just not 'Snice.)
I'm glad that more vegan/vegetarian places are in Park Slope now, but 'Snice is definitely not at the top of my list. Their Meatball Superhero was fantastic, but they got rid of it. I've also tried the Sesame Chicken Wrap which was bland, the Hummus sandwich which is blah on wheat bread(would be better on a wheat panini) and the Cauliflower Wrap which was way better than the other two, but still not up to par.
The only reason I gave this place two stars is because of the desserts. Their chocolate chip cookies and cupcakes are both A+. Not sure if they buy them from bakeries though, so yeah... I'd only go there to satisfy my sweet tooth.
Vibes? Check.
Price? Check.
Friendly Service? Check.
Wifi? Check.
God bless the vegan delights - baked goods here are the bomb, as are salads and most sandwiches. 2 meals for the price of one, usually. I'm of the 'eat half and take it home' ilk; it's just how I roll.
The sandwiches are good, but stay away from the Tempeh Reuben, or anything with tempeh for that matter, unless you like the taste of cat food.
Coffee is dope, and smoothies too. Try the date bar or the brownie (not vegan, but good). And I dare you to leave without a feel-good vibe from their down-to-earth, friendly staff. Post up at one of their cool salvaged-wood tables and stroller-gaze to your heart's content.
'Snice on ice. The coffee, that is. The name kinda weirds me out - it makes my mind reel trying to find where that word would fit in. Mice? Snot? Snipe? Slice? Whatever.
Sooo, down in the Slope trying to get some tax biz' taken care of when I got pelted off my bike by heavy-falling rain. 'Snice was the first place that was open so I locked up the ol' two wheels and hopped in.
The coffee was quite good, and the place itself is pretty trendy and spacious. Not a huge fan of the layout though --- the tables/chairs/benches are all pretty clean-cut. It makes the place look tidy, but it wouldn't entice me to come back with my books and laptop to get comfy. What ever happened to couches in coffee shops? Just a personal preference I guess. The artwork was a little to trite for my taste, but again - that's just me. :0)
S'nice has pretty good food and tea, I'll give it that. I was really stoked to find it in PS because I wanted a place to study with lots of natural light. Problems to follow:
One of the cashier girls is nice and the other one is severely unfriendly. I don't know why they employ her, considering all the kids they get in there during lunch, when the place is overtaken by strollers.
I stopped going to S'nice because of the service and lack of Wifi, but I heard they got Wifi, so I stopped in. I guess it could be a fluke, but I went there on Presidents Day and there were obnoxious signs on every table that said "no laptops on weekends and holidays"--except on the front 2 tables, which were completely full of people crammed and sharing. So S'nice wasn't too busy on Presidents Day, but I was still told I could not use my laptop. I just can't believe they restrict it like that. I guess businesses limit Wifi to keep people from camping for hours after they buy a $3 latte, but here's the alternative--I'm unlikely to go back!
I tried the S'nice in the West Village but was disappointed they didn't even have Wifi. I pulled out a book but it was too dim to read for long. Not so S'nice!!!
