This place has legit BBQ!! After working up an appetite from enjoying a beautiful scenic drive through Rocky Mountain National Park, Smokin' Dave's BBQ  hit the spot. I ordered the Dave's Double combo platter and got St. Louis Style Ribs and Carolina Pulled Pork for the meats, and corn on the cob and green beans for the sides.

First of all the green beans were nice and crisp with a good snap when you bit into them. Plus they were cooked in onions and bacon and really, how can anything taste bad cooked in onions and bacon?

As for the meats, it was all about the ribs.  Succulent, meaty, tender - combined with the Sweet Original sauce, this one was a winner. The only thing slightly distracting during the meal was the steel pig perched on the window sill that gave me the evil stare down as I happily munched on my plate 'o pork. Sorry buddy, look away next time.

Also for dessert, we split a slice of Kentucky bourbon pecan pie. Not too much of that overly sweetened corn syrup filling, a good portion of chopped pecans with every bite, and just a hint of bourbon flavoring, made this one taste just as good as it sounds.

Come hungry because the portions are HUGE! We split a triple meat combo because we were really really hungry after 2 hours of snowshoeing at Rocky Mountain National Park (which totally rocks btw).  We had the St Louis (pork) ribs, Beef ribs and 1/2 roasted chicken with coleslaw and sweet potato fries.

I was mega happy that this place had beef ribs(supposedly Kobe beef ribs) one bite and the uber yummy tender meat and my mix of the tangy and spicy sauce just brought me to bbq heaven.

If you know Estes Park you know that eating out is problematic at best, keep expectations low and you might get lucky.  Dave's is ok, nothing spectacular, which in Estes Park is your best choice.

They have a choice of sides and one is corn on the cob, they chose to serve me frozen corn on the cob, soft and soggy, it was hot though, inexcusable, don't serve corn unless it is fresh.  When I've eaten here I feel like you need a shot of whiskey to wash the grease down my throat, that's probably typical of this type of barbecue though.

All said; in Estes Park one of your better choices.

I must say that Yelp! has definitely not let us down this weekend in Estes, as this place was great. Surprisingly small establishment which resulted in us having a few minute wait even an hour after the typical lunch rush ends - something to keep in mind - but the service was good both at the bar and after we were seated.

The fried pickles as an appetizer were very good. This seems to be a popular app in Estes as I saw it on 3/4 menus I checked for our lunch, and if everywhere else in the area is doing them this well that is truly an exceptional thing. It is not easy to get the breading to stick to the pickle and also avoid the pickle being boiling hot when the outside seems merely hot. Perfect work on both fronts.

After the app, we shared a triple platter with St.Louis ribs, beef ribs and pulled pork. The waiter was extremely accommodating to our special requests. We got a kaiser roll and cheese and bacon on our fries (two sides are provided) and the up-charge was totally reasonable. I really appreciate a place that does not try to gouge you for customizations. Pork ribs, pulled pork and sauces were great, and the only thing I can say was lacking was the beef ribs. I realize it is not as easy to make beef ribs "fall off the bone" but I can say these were tougher than I would expect for a BBQ specialist place. There is a special place with beef ribs that usually involves basting/heating longer that makes them just the right toughness and I feel like that step just was not taken. Still, delicious, and a solid brew selection with reasonable prices to boot. 4.5

The best in Estes Park!  Consistent food and great value (substantial quantity for the price).  I got the St. Louis Style ribs -- which appear on the menu twice for different prices w/ the same combo possibilities of sides.  Weird.  Delicious though (tender and savory) and the sweet potato fries and cornbread accompaniments were fab.  The corn on the cob though, was repulsive and inedible.  It was like a sponge where (dirty dish) water gushed out upon biting into it.  No taste whatsoever.  We had plenty to take home for lunch or snack the next day too.  Others in the party ordered pulled pork, blackened fish, bbq chicken, etc and all were satisfied.  Also, love the variety of sauces to squirt on at the table.

I stayed down the street from this restaurant and it appeared to be packed every single time we drove by.  After all week of driving by, we finally stopped to give it a try.

I had the single platter, which comes with 1 meat, 2 sides and cornbread.  I chose the texas beef brisket.  This is the small platter but it was a huge amount of food.  The brisket was tasty and I recommend the smashed potatoes.  The spicy BBQ sauce isn't spicy, but it's good anyway.

You definitely won't leave here hungry!

Ate here for lunch one our last day in EP. We had the pulled pork sandwich. I had the sweet potato fries and green beans and my friend had regular fries and cole slaw.

The meat was tender and tasty. The bread does get soggy. There are a selection of BBQ sauces but it didn't really need any. The green beans were great! Very fresh and crisp with a little bit of crunchy bacon, not the "soaked and soft" green beans I'm used to in a BBQ joint. I liked my sweet potato fries but my friend thought her regular fries had strange too-starchy flavor and didn't eat them.

The meat was fairly lean but still a little fatty. We drove back to Denver after we ate and I did start feeling sick. Maybe I'm just not used to eating fried food and pulled pork. I didn't get food poisoning but just didn't feel well. My friend felt fine and we ate almost the same thing.

I think "Dave" lives in EP. This is a small chain from what I heard and I know there is a Smokin Daves in the town over.

If you like BBQ, I'd recommend checking in out.

My absolute favorite place to go for lunch after hiking in Rocky Mt. National Park.  We always share a side of fried pickles that are spicy, hot, tangy and delicious, especially when dipped in the accompanying ranch dressing.

I'll let everyone else rave about their bbq, which is awesome, so that I can rave about their pork green chili, which is hearty and flavorful and immensely satisfying.  The smoked corned beef rueben is my other favorite menu item--I usually have half for lunch and take the other half home for later.

They have a nice selection of wheat beers and local beers.

Until we found this place, I was thinking that Estes didn't have any noteworthy restaurants!

Make a reservation if you go during the summer/a holiday - it's bound to get busy!

I really didn't expect to have some of the best BBQ I've ever had in Estes Park, but that's just what happened.  I had the St. Louis style ribs and they were just perfect: the right balance of seasoning, smoke, sauce, flavorful, chewy, not too dry, not too mushy.

Decent tap list with an assortment of craft beer.  Good service.  Corn on the cob was a little mushy, but other sides were fine.

    Love it.

Oh how Yelp! reviews properly guided me on this one!

Always skeptical of resort-town restaurants (name the reason:  aloof, day-dreaming staff, over-priced, mediocre food, etc) family visited Smokin' Dave's on our trip through Estes park on way to Rocky Mountain national park.

Part of a chain (first visit here, so just read about it on menu), who specializes in BBQ fare and unique tap beer.

I went for the Cajun rubbed chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, and a Lefthand pils to wash it down.  OK, so this isn't fine dining, but the results matched previous reviews.  Solid fare, very reasonable prices for the area.

My oldest son apparently has a thing for ribs (who knew) and he went nuts...always a good sign when kids don't gripe about anything put in front of them!

Wife had one of the pulled pork platters, and she was very pleased.

Happy to breath a sigh of relief on this one, and I'll do my part and document as well as I can!

This place was great!  A nice treat in a town of mediocre food. We ordered a big platter and shared it all. It was a perfect amount for a group of 5, we just ordered a couple of extra cornbread muffins.

Everything was excellent...the ribs, the chicken, the pulled pork, the brisket, the cole slaw, the smashed potatoes, the cornbread...although I could have done without the beans and rice because they were bland...and I did wish the cornbread was warm but it was still good.

I look foward to eating here again next time I am in town.

First off, Dave's isn't in the overcrowded, touristy downtown section of Estes Park, but out on the west end along Highway 36, as you head toward one of the east entrances to RMNP.  Thus, parking is no problem.

His place is decorated with sort of a rustic atmosphere, appropriate  for the area and feels very comfortable.  The service was better than average, too.  They have four kinds of BBQ sauce; Original, Tangy, Spicy and Carolina Mustard.  Of the four I preferred the Tangy kind.  I didn't try the Carolina style.

I ordered their Smokin' Philly, which is beef brisket with red & green peppers and onions and roasted jalapenos and your choice of cheese.  It turned out to be a 10-inch-long mini loaf of bread stuffed with all of the above.  It was delicious, but for the last half I was getting too full so I just scraped the meat off the bread and ate it off the plate.  It came with fries and a small amount of coleslaw.

Wifie ordered the Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich, which I sampled and it was also very good.  She had hers with sweet potato fries.

Son #3 had the Pit Master Sliders -- 2 pork and 2 brisket and enjoyed them also.

They have quite a variety of items to choose from, and if they are anything like what we had, you won't go wrong with any of them.

Three thumbs up for Smokin' Dave's!

The first meal my family and I had while on vacation in Estes Park was at Smokin' Dave's BBQ & Taphouse. My dad recommended it after reading some reviews before our trip. The first thing that really surprised me was the beer selection, which was really great for a small BBQ restaurant. I decided to go with a Smoked Porter from Alaskan Brewing to compliment the smoky food. I seem to recall other fine beers on tap including Breckenridge Vanilla Porter as well as solid choices from both Odell and Avery.

For meals, we all decided to choose from the smokin' platters and while everyone else went with the single pulled pork, I decided to try the roasted half chicken. Each platter comes with two sides and with so many options we had very few repeats at the table. I chose the cole slaw along with red beans and rice.  Both of my sides were good and the half chicken was plenty filling. There were four sauces on the table to sample and I think the original and tangy were the best. I also sampled the pulled pork, which was really good, as well as their sweet potato fries, BBQ baked beans, and spiced apples. All of the food was very good and I would easily put it at the top of my list in Estes Park.

Early June, 2011:  This was one of the places recommended to me when I first arrived in Estes Park.  I came here twice, once during suppertime, and it was packed, and once in the early afternoon between lunch and supper, when it was uncrowded.

I ate a good assortment of their food, both in the restaurant and take-out.  The only thing that I did not like was the chocolate peanut butter pie, which sounded great but was really weird with some white mousse-like thing with very little flavor as the filling.  I'm not sure where the peanut butter and chocolate were.  Since this was one of my take-out items, I couldn't do anything about it.

There are plenty of different foods to try, so have at it!

Beef? Check.  Pork?  Check.  Cole Slaw? Check.  This place has all of the necessary items to call themselves a BBQ restaurant, but they really have a long way to go to deserve their lofty Yelp rating.

This is pretty standard BBQ fare.  They have a few different sauces (tangy, sweet, spicy, and a Carolina mustard).  They were decent, but I've made better sauces at home.  The pork was moist and tender, but flavorless without sauce.  I hope they learn the value of a solid dry rub!

The portion of cornbread was miniscule and actually made me chuckle seeing it sitting next to the giant portion of pork.

The server seemed sleepy and inattentive.  He told me my card had been declined when I paid for the meal.  I assumed the bank had frozen my card for some reason, but there were no holds on my account and I was assured that my card had never been run at the restaurant.

I also got very sick after eating here.  I cant, with 100% certainty, blame it on the food but it always takes away from the experience.

Id suggest finding someplace else to eat.

I've lived in Kansas City and Texas so I'm more than picky when it comes to BBQ. Gotta say, Smokin' Dave's was pretty legit.

The portions were beyond enormous - my brisket sammich was overflowing with delicious brisket - and the sauces definitely added more to the explosion of flavors that were already going on.

Amazing place to dine in Estes, CO.  The wait was estimated at 30 minutes, but the quick turn around got us in at about 20 minutes.  Our service was awesome!  When they accidentally brought my father-in-law beans instead of sweet potato fries, they brought an order out right away.

I split a 2 item BBQ combo with my husband with BBQ Ribs and Pulled Pork.  The Pulled Pork is served over toast, like Texas style.  Their sauces are amazing, they give you 3 types to choose from (Regular, Tangy, and Spicy).  The green beans were amazing and the sweet potato fries were the best I've had in a long time!

We went back later that night to the bar for drinks.  Also awesome, their bar has about 10-15 beers on tap with a lot of different ones you don't usually see.  I had a couple of pints of a blonde ale, very good.  The owner was bar tending that night, super nice guy and great to talk to!  We will be back for sure!

So when I saw the reviews were rather high for this BBQ joint my wife and I decided to give it a shot.  First thing you should know is that I'm a BBQ snob.  I tend to prefer my own cooking over these joints and I'm a fanatic for Memphis style BBQ (sauce is on the side and tends to have a lot of dry rub on the meat).

So after checking out the menu and looking at what other people were eating I decided to try the Pitmaster sandwich which consisted of beef brisket, pulled pork and half of smoked sausage layered on a hoagie roll with regular fries.

Each cut of meat had a great smoke ring and very nice bark.  The rub was a bit light for my preference.  There were 4 sauces to select from.  Tangy, original, spicy and Carolina mustard sauce.  This is where the OMG experiance happened for me.  I love a good Carolina mustard sauce and quite frankly this sauce is better than my best homemade sauce.  The other sauces are also quite interesting as they seem to not go the heavy tomato base route.  The original was heavy on molasses flavor without any bitterness.  Truly Smoking Dave's reminded me to not be close minded when it comes to BBQ.

My gold standard for comparison tends to be ribs so next time I'm in Estes Park I'm going to try them out.

Who would have thought they had good BBQ up in a mountain town? Well they do, and Smokin' Daves is it.

Wife and I ditched one of the steak houses in Estes and decided to try this place. I'm glad we did. They have some of the best over all BBQ I've had. They have 4 different BBQ sauces at the table, and we tried all of them but the Mustard based one (as it's not our cup of tea) and they were all VERY VERY good!! This made the rest of the BBQ go from good to great!

My wife got the sausage, and while it was good it didn't carry a lot of smoke flavor to it. Minus 1/2 star

I got the Kobe beef rib and Beef brisket. The ribs were done perfectly, not falling off the bone, but tender with still some chew on them. The brisket while tasty was over done and most of it was crumbly. Minus 1/2 star.

We had the pulled pork potato skins, and both the wife and I REALLY enjoyed these. So now this is something she's going to make me do when I smoke pulled pork at home. LOL! If you get them, make sure you try the BBQ sauce with them and not just the ranch that comes with them.

I was happy to see they appear to have a 2nd location down in Lyons, so it makes it a bit easier for us to go back... which is something we will be doing. So if you want some good BBQ, drive past Longmont's "Famous" rib place and come go eat at Smokin' Daves!! Were they put their BBQ sauces on the table so you don't have to order them and you get as little or as much as you want... like it's supposed to be.

Great food and atmosphere! The bar-b-que was cooked well and the four different sauces provide a taste for everyone. We ordered the pulled pork, brisket, and kobe beef ribs. All were great.

The green beans were fresh, lightly sauteed with onions and bacon; a nice difference from the mushy, canned type. All other sides our party had: sweet potato fries, coleslaw, baked beans, and cornbread were of the same standard.

The atmosphere was kid friendly, but oddly quiet and calm and our kid-less party had a great time. Good local beer selection and prompt service makes this an excellent choice for food in Estes Park.

So maybe barbecue led to the downfall of my vegetarianism. And maybe I'm not even a little sad about it.

We stopped at Smokin' Dave's for lunch before touring the "crazy scary" Stanley Hotel and I left so happy that I'd decided to eat meat. The pulled pork sandwich paired with tangy BBQ sauce was great - and the peanut butter pie that rounded off the meal was amazing. They also have a great collection of local beers.

EH.... Food wasn't that great--had the 1/2 chicken...had to take both dark and white parts...dark was ok, white meat was gross. Not much BBQ sauce either..more in containers on table but it wasn't that good either. Hubby had beef brisket and he ended up not feeling good. I tasted it and it was gross. Mashed potatoes were cold.  Waiter never checked back with us after we got our food, just at bill-time. Will not return.

OMG!  We ate here 3 times during our 1 week stay in Estes Park!  Yes, it's that good!  The food is amazing, the portions are big, the prices are great, the tea is great, and the service is great!  During our visits, we had chicken fried steak, pulled pork, St. Louis ribs, and chicken.  Everything was great, including the sides...wonderful mashed potatoes, green beans, and red beans and rice.  My husband loved the pulled pork sandwich and the sweet potato fries.  It gets crowded, so get there early.  I recommend arriving around 4:45 - 5:00 if you want to avoid a wait.  However, if you DO have to wait, it's well worth it.

Dave, PLEASE open a restaurant in Dallas (Garland)!  Being from Texas, we love BBQ and both my husband and I say Smokin' Daves is the best we've ever had.  That California guy knows his BBQ!

Wow! Yum! The St. Louis ribs were so absolutely delicious that I had a hard time concentrating on the conversation! Four different BBQ sauces made for a taste explosion! I'm usually not into BBQ sauce though I love BBQ, but with the four choices, I found something I liked, three in fact!

I am very impressed and my friend ordered the Shroom burger which was big, cheesy and had the best, softest hamburger buns EVER!

The sweet potato fries were good, as were the spiced apples, but DAMN! the BBQ really took the cake! Not to be missed! YUMMY!

Is there hope for diners in Estes Park??

    I think so!

Estes Park is known for the Rocky Mountain National Park, roaming elk, and mediocre restaurants. Walking into Smokin' Dave's my senses were awakened with the sweet smell of hickory smoke. We were greeted promptly by a friendly host, and did not have to wait long for our table of 7. I know...I know...it is every servers nightmare to have a table of 7, with half of them being kids. Our server did not seem to match the warm and friendliness of Smokin' Dave's. He was shy and knew nothing about the beers on draft or gave any suggestions for first timers.Smokin' Dave's boasts about 16 beers on draft, but when the server was asked what was on draft, he just pointed to a tiny plastic menu in the center of the table.

The fried pickle spears were great! The ribs and brisket were tender and juicy. The catfish was overcooked and our server missed a few of our side dishes. We enjoyed the selection of homemade BBQ sauces on the table. The menu almost mirrors Famous Dave's except Smokin' Dave's offers a few original dishes. In fact, it is kind of like walking into a Famous Dave's.

I am excited to finally have a decent restaurant to dine at when in Estes Park. I will definitely be back. I hope that Smokin' Dave's does not fall into the tourist service. You know the kind of service that you get when the staff and the management know you are a travelers and will probably never see you again, so who cares what kind of service they give.

We sat at the Bar and actually got waiting on by Dave.  He was a great guy and the BBQ was prepared really really nicely.  All together it was a huge about of food so be careful ordering.  The service was super fast.  My girlfriend and I agree that they have the best pecan pie either of us has ever had.  Personally, I don't even like pecan pie and I could have eaten multiple pieces.  My girlfriend is picky about her pecan pie and raved about it endlessly.  Our only mistake was not going back.

Okay barbeque (but considering the limited restaurant environment in Estes Park, it's above average).

Cozy family place to go have a beer and some meat- nothing fancy. I thought their sauce selection was somewhat poor- it seems they took their best sauce and parsed it out into three (sweet, hot, and vinegar) for the sake of having selection. Serisously, I thought the sauces tasted best all mixed together.

I was there out of season and didnt have to make a reservation, but I could see this place getting packed. Also a bummer about being out of season-- no game ribs :(

Great BBQ, good prices, quick service. We were here in the off season, so the service probably isn't an accurate representation of what it would be like in the summer. No wait to be seated. About a 10 minute wait for our food. Total with 2 beers and tip was $50, but we ordered the "not so teeny wahine" which is way too much food for 2 people (even 2 very hungry people). You can get out of there for much less! We took enough food back with us for a hearty lunch the next day. (meal includes: 1/2 of a chicken, 1/2 slab st louis ribs, 1/4 lb each pulled pork and brisket (fatty brisket = good brisket!), 4 sides, 3 sweet cornbread muffins, & 3 pieces tx toast). Oh... Despite other reviews, I really liked the sauces!! Carolina mustard was my favorite of any sauce I've ever had! (ps, I've lived in tx almost 30 years, so my take on BBQ is that of a Texan)

Some of my family needed a post-wedding dinner today (not my wedding!) and we made a trek out to Smokin' Dave's. The guys were friendly, the food was great, and I loved my 90 Shilling brew. Definitely hit the spot.

Kansas City Ribs were a standout, and the pulled pork was divine. The sauces are great. They don't skimp on the sides either - my boyfriend and I really enjoyed our smashed potatoes and green beans. My cousin really liked his coconut shrimp. Oh, and the mushrooms appetizer exceeded expectations, and I'm going to try to make it at home. This place gets my vote.

Aside from the fact that, as in every place I went while in CO, the people workin this joint were the nicest people ever, this BBQ is OUT OF THIS WORLD.

$13 buys you half a BBQ chicken 2 sides (best baked beans and smashed potatoes EVER) cornbread and a 22oz beer.

    YES PLEASE.

We were staying in Estes Park for the night and decided to try Smokin' Dave's based on other Yelp reviews. I had the two meat combo (Kobe beef ribs and beef brisket).   Both were delicious and portions were good. Service was ok. I ordered a chili and never got it.  Overall, the food was great, service was OK. I would go back and would definitely recommend it to others.

This is my second time to Estes Park and just like last year, we absolutely had to return to Smokin Dave's for their unique selection of beer and fat juicy ribs! Dave owns restaurants in Hawaii and Colorado, so you'll see a very nice selection of local brews as well as unique domestic brews on tap from places as Cali and Colorado.,

    WHAT WE LOVE:
    - It's a must - get their ribs - the meat on the bones is plentiful, quality, juicy, and tasty.
    - potato skins appetizer with ranch sauce - this was unique and really good!  Juicy pulled pork is baked into the dish -tender and brings out the flavor in the dish!
    - The Breckenridge oatmeal stout was really good!
    - You can get tasters of their beer! Take advantage of the freebies!
    - I was excited to see beers from Stone Brewery on tap! This is one of the best microbreweries in America -  If u like porters u will love the porter
-The smashed potatoes are so great here! (if you have room to stuff it into your bellys after inhaling the ribs!)

    WHAT WAS JUST OK:
-Their beer  1554 was dark but lighter than pale ale. This was just ok
    - The ska buster nut brown ale was not great - kind of lighter  with a sour aftertaste.
