I love this place. It has a casual/cool vibe. Good wine and often times live music of various assorts. I also enjoy the lounge areas and local art work that is displayed around. Linked to the pub is an adorable cafe, Ellie's Place. They have delicious food and you can order tapas and enjoy wine in the pub!

Fun place with an unusual compressed dance floor- imagine entering when a band is playing, and having to time your trip to the bar between the dancers and the small (usually packed) tables.
Aside from the machinations for getting a drink, this is a place to check out for it's various bands, the 'regulars' (Norm!) and the encroaching restaurant kitchen - which is the reason for the compression in the dance area.
Fun people, friendly atmosphere, and fairly good selection of beers, as they carry a lot of wine labels, just not my favorites.
I think I dance better on beer, anyway!

I worked in this building as a kid when it was a hobby/pet store. Anyone else remember the monkey or Mayan bird?

Good local beers on tap. Local art on walls. Only been here while having lunch at Ellie's, little diner/breakfast type place that shares the space, but I see the huge parking lot packed on a regular basis on the evenings, I think it's the new middle age and up hang out for the good beer/food/music/art crowd.

SLO Down has some good beer on tap, if you like Firestone.  Which I do!

I made the journey over to watch open mic night and had a pitcher.  I wish I had not eaten before I showed up because some of the grub  I saw coming from the cafe looked real good.

Decent selection of wines.  I would definitely go back and try a little more of everything.  Probably on a Monday so I can hear some more music  too.

    Update for my other review!
Since I've last been, they have added Ellie's Slo Down Cafe. The food here is freshly made to order. They used what was formerly an awkward museum-esque area in the pub and turned it into a really cute cheerful homey cafe that fits right in.

Now you go up to the platform area and order alcohol.
To order food, go into the doorway on the right, before you get to the platform area. They really need to add a sign or something, since we had 3 people ask us where you go to order food!

They added more seating, including couches, on the floor area near the stage, which is really great since last time I went it was really cramped! The current configuration opens up the space a lot more and makes it much easier to sit and watch acts.

The cafe portion is pretty expensive. On weekends they serve breakfast all day, which is really awesome. But for a platter of eggs, bacon, sausage, toast and some kind of strange fried potatoes, plus a coke, it was 12 dollars.
Ask for your coke with no ice unless you enjoy having about 20% soda and 80% ice in your cup. Refills thankfully are free, but it just seems ridiculous that they FILL the whole entire cup with ice like that. Most people I know only like about half a glass of ice, not the whole thing.

Ordering is easy, the staff were all friendly and our food was piping hot.
They have tea, coffee, and the menu is also online. I'm definitely happy they added food, and utilized the space better in the pub!
Unfortunately they still do not have coffee by the cup, which I will never ever understand! Get rid of your French Press by the pot only thing people, please!

Check out all the shows and things that happen here, because it's pretty nice that we have a performing space locally. It's an aspect that's been really needed for years! Open mic nights are on mondays if you have a band or something that you would like to perform.

Wow what a great place! The husband and I feel right at home here. The wine selection is wonderful and decently priced. They pour you HUGE glasses too. The husband loves the Porter and Chai beer. It looks a bit strange in the back of the parking lot but it's sooooo worth it. Great live music as well, we usually go for bluegrass jam sessions on Sundays. Hope to see you there!!!

This Pub is a landmark in San Luis Obispo. Great location, tons of nice people and friendly bartenders. I never have to worry about feeling out of place or ignored. It's always a friendly group of locals who make you feel welcome. Now that music has been added, I enjoy it even more. The locals love the bands and people are dancing all about. Wonderful place to have fun and hear good music .
