Hit this spot for our lead off night for Indy 500 weekend. After reading the yelpers suggestions, I made rezez for our party of 15. Maybe its cuz I live in SoCal and have had many less than satisfactory experiences booking for large partys, I was expecting the worse, especially on the Friday night of race weekend.
Well well well my little pretties, these mid-westerners really know customer service and how it is supposed to work! Tables all set up where promised (upstairs,overlooking the bandstand), reserved signs everywhere, Niki (I believe), waiting nearby to get us drinking ASAP, and very cheerful to boot! We were a disorganized lot as well; folks flying in a various times, some of us wanting to hit the sack early etc. Sooo just to make sure we were extra pains....lets ask for a few separate checks!! OMG!! This would cause most SoCal service peeps to go screaming to their managers to have these horrible customers set straight! You know what Niki did? She smiled and said NO PROBLEM! What!?! She was extremely attentive with some help from her support crew and kept the drinks, food, and apps coming.
The food was above average bar food, good for soaking up the booze, but to be fair we weren't really concerned about eating as much as catching up and drinking.....alot.
In summary; the band was great, the crowd of varying ages was a typically friendly, mellow mid-western kinda group, awesome service, reasonably priced, just a great place to party. Loved It!! Not to be missed when in Indy!!
Thursday Nights:
* Half off drinks
* Great live music
* Entertaining customers
* Lots of F U N
The Slippery Noodle is a maze of rooms with a bar tucked in at the front, dining off to the side, a patio somewhere (I never found it), and a stage near the back. Take your pick for the mood you're in and settle in for the evening.
They've got a great tap selection, great live blues (I'm a little biased. I was watching a friend's band.), and an enthusiastic crowd for that music. The food's pretty good too (Although, I was not impressed with the pulled pork.). I'll definitely come back the next time I'm in town.
In Indy I don't think you could find a better place to listen to music and drink. Crowded yes, but what a cool place with two bands playing simultaneously in different parts of the bar. This is a great bar. I don't know about the food, but the beer is cold and the music's hot.
Good food, good drinks, varying levels of service including just adequate and truly comic, comfortable setting. Personally found all its branding a little outputting.
What Indy lacks in original restaurants, we don't lack in fun, interesting bars. There are so many cool, chill places and The Slippery Noodle Inn is an Indianapolis downtown staple. I cannot tell you how many times I have shared one too many here and stumbled out to catch a cab (in a plethora on the corner right outside - they KNOW what's coming out!).
This bar is known for it's dark, mysterious spaces, GREAT live music (I cannot tell you how many fantastic bands have played here - jazz and blue specifically) that give me goosebumps and make my booty dance a beat it's not used to, and fantastic (strong) beverages.
The wait staff is on top of it...the bartenders are great. Start your evening in the narrow space leading to the music lounge and end it upstairs overlooking the stage. The view is fabulous!! And, the people up there are FUN.
Order off the appetizer menu for a great, quick snack and take advantage of the drink specials.
Don't miss out on an Indianapolis bar that has history, feels old school and still modern, tons of character, and makes you go "mmmmm". It's great for dates, birthday and group celebrations, a place to start and end your night, etc. etc. etc.
LOVE IT. DO IT!! You'll come here and thank me, Yelpers.
Very good food! Love the atmosphere! I ordered butterfly shrimp and fries and they were sooo good that I kept eating even after I was stuffed to the limit. The WT Feasters were playing and they were awesome. It's kinda smokey and folks drop cig butts everywhere but if you can get past then you'll be alright. Love this place - hope to return soon!
Fun place to hear music, difficult parking and typical bar food.
I have to admit I don't love this bar as much as everyone else seems to love it. While I love the history behind the building and the bar, it still is, to me, a bit dirty, dark and dingy. I like bars that have live music, but I always think the music here is way too loud, which makes it difficult to hold a conversation with friends. I always feel like I'm back in college at this bar for some reason. I think it might be because of the way people are packed in, the loud music, the smoke and the dudes hitting on women.
Ha! Some things never change ...
The Blues Brothers statue outside says it all...Dis Is It.
The place is pretty stellar, great Jazz and Blues every night of the week. It isn't a genre of music I care a lot about, but it has its merits and there are times when I love it.
Aside from the music they have great greasy spoon grub, it's one of the classiest dive joints in Indy. One of the things it boasts, not tha it has to, is being the oldest bar in Indiana. It really doesn't have to compete, being the elder statesman that it is, it has the pleasure of really being a one of a kind in downtown. I call it a dive bar, but it isn't really a dive bar, its not a club, definatly not a lounge, not really a classy place, and not really a hole in the wall either, it's unique position, both literally and figuratively makes it one of the coolest places in town.
Went to the Slippery Noodle last weekend to check out one of the most famous places in Indy. LOVED the bar. The ambiance is very fun, the bands always have the place rocking, and the prices aren't too bad.
The food isn't anything to write home about... just your typical bar food in taste and selections. The wings are pretty damned good though - I'd highly recommend those!
I had a dirty martini and the bartender made it quite well. This is my test of bartenders, as most make it either with too much or too little olive juice. This was probably the second best I've ever had.
The oldest bar in Indiana (so I'm told), this all-blues bar has several rooms, an outdoor seating area, and pretty much the premiere stage for urban blues in Indiana. Bands both local and national play the Noodle on a weekly basis, and most weekends, this place is packed.
The Noodle tends to draw a slightly older crowd than its nearby nightlife neighbors, but it's also totally normal to see a young crowd in there. I mean, we used to go there when we were 21, so it's really all over the map, but I think the over 40 crowd feels more comfortable here than at places further north on Meridian. Plus, the blues. It's much more enjoyable for the older crowd than hip hop, which dominates the airwaves of most other clubs downtown.
They also have pool, and so even if you're not into the band, you can hang in one of the front bars and be away from the music and just be out having a great time.
The name of this restaurant conjures up two distinct thoughts in my mind, a D-class strip club or a pick-up line that a wrinkly 72 year-old man would say as he popped out of the sauna naked and was suddenly surprised by a bewildered school girl lost in the men's locker room.
Thank the heavens ... Neither of these were to be found within the aged doors of this modern day blues saloon. After navigating the confusing parking signs(todo en espanol) we rolled into "The Noodle" for a some live blues. The nights host band "W T Feaster" pulled the crouds closer as the empty chairs quickly filled.
More coming .. pictures too!
Way cool atmosphere, tons of history (oldest bar in the state and former underground railroad stop), great food and the best blues this side of the delta.
The Noodle is open for lunch and staff is always friendly. My favorite lunch item is the cajun beef sandwich with a cold beer. The dinner menu is large and features steaks, chops and hearty soups. This has always been one of my favorite spots downtown because it's off the beaten path. It is, however, a destination by itself. They have a great blues show almost every night.
Do you want to know why I like Jazz music? Because of the laid back, casual style that encompasses the sound. Now mix that with with a fully functional bar...and BLAM!!! You have the noodle environment.
Take my advice, don't look at the noodle for a fast and fresh dinner. It'll take 40 minutes for the food, and another 40 minutes for the bill.
But other than the wait time, everyone needs to visit the noodle. It's haunted, and how cool is that! The beers are cold, and we can't argue there.
This place gets the five stars, there is so much going on in here..the people are generally very nice the servers are fast and treat you with respect. Very cool place. You can also go to the very top of the back room and its a bit more chilled out while you look down at the live band and people dancing. Every time i go to the back area people are having the best time. Summer time seating is awesome too! If you think you like spicy food...try the jerk chicken sandwich, it just might change your mind.
Nice blues club just south of the circle downtown. Typically really great live music. Not the best for a quiet conversation, but a really fun time if you're ready to kick back with a beer.
Wednesday nights is open mic and you will be able to see some of the best players in Indy.
Front and back stage and always a great time.
The Noodle is the place to head if you're looking for a fun night downtown or want to grab a beer before a Colts game. If you're going prior to a game, get there early so you can grab a table - they do not take reservations on game day. If you aren't going to the game, you can watch it at the Slippery Noodle and still enjoy the excitement of being downtown on game day. We usually get a few pitchers of Blue Moon, and I recommend their cheeseburgers - a satisfying & safe bet! Just don't drink too much there - with so many rooms, you could easily get lost in the place!
i am californian, born and bred, but i love mid-western culture and food. this place is both. i was travelling through on business and was able to have a mid-western classic - chili over pasta. it was pretty good, and if i was ever back in indy, i woiuld definitely go again!
cool name too :)
A great spot for blues just south of downtown. This Indy institution has decent, greasy spoon food; the beer selection in its multiple bars is better. Good lunch specials include a tasty Philly cheesesteak. Plus, it has its own parking lot!
i love, love, love the slippery noodle. great for some good music! One of my favorite places in downtown Indy!!
Didn't expect much, came in with folks on a biz trip. Really surpassed my expectations though, this is quite a good little club for seeing live music. Good sound, good sight lines, even the lunch is pretty decent. I seem to recall the beer selection was purty good too, though that's a little fuzzy. Their open mic night is way better than most of that ilk.
i'm not really a drinker, but i Love the Blues or Jazz here, the music is great, get there early for a seat
I vaguly remember this place, but do remember that I had a lot of fun - its a big location with lots of sections. Was only here for drinks late night - don't know about the food.
The Slippery Noodle is one of the first bars I went to in Indy when I moved here 6 years ago. I like the sort of raunchy, dark, bluesy feel of it. Love the blue lights! The crowd changes a lot which is one of the reasons i like it. All ages, types, looks, everything. It almost always has good blues (although after living in St. Louis for 3 years I got spoiled about my blues music), this one truly holds up and is fun, you can dance and check out whatever might be happening here, and believe me, you can see it ALL here. This is where to go if you want to just get away from hum drum daily grind we deal with everyday!!
Great place to hang out with friends before or after a basketball game or concert, or on any other night. Great live music!
Enjoyed the location...sitting conviently in the shade on a warm sunny afternoon, close to downtown but not right in the middle of everything and the history, which is printed on their menus -it is really amazing. It is Indianapolis' oldest bar, been around since 1850 and was first established for a bar and eatery for the railway workers and was one a waystation for the Underground Railroad. Atmosphere was great with the blues music, will have to come bakc sometime to experience it live. But the actual service was disappointing. Took about a half an hour to get our order taken for the drinks even though the waitress passed us several times and she never came back to order our food, had to go inside and ask where we ordered inside or what. Then took another half an hour before she came out to take our order. Food came promptly which was a surprise. Food was good, but not amazing. Definitely a place to go to for atmosphere.
great atmosphere. two separate stages. lots of different rooms. a little bit of everything to offer. always have a good time. gets particularly crowded with post-game goers which can be fun. watching old women in colts jerseys dance the night away is always great for free entertainment.
