Ok...where do I start on this one?
I suppose with a question. Does your barber have his own MySpace page? How about a YouTube page with time lapse video of him performing haircuts? I didn't think so...

I take my kids to Slim's because the salons and hair chains in the area just can't get the job done. I asked for a "taper" around the edge at a certain nearby place (with the cars and horsies in the window) and the lady was trying to thin the top out or something totally unrelated and then tried to argue with me about it! And they charge more! A boy's haircut at Slim's is $13, Man cuts are $15, and that's it. Note that no credit cards are accepted!
Slim has two young boys and the Saturday we were in there there were tons of kids. Also good to see they had Nickelodeon on since the wait was something like 1.5 hours! Luckily I had brought a deck of UNO cards and we rounded up some kids and got a game going. Slim told me that the CL police will give you a $10 ticket if you leave your car on Woodstock for over two hours but of course if you are used to city prices you probably won't give a hoot.
What else can I say...go try it out. -

This review is for the straight razor shaving service performed by Dean at Slim's. Probably the worst shave I've ever had in my 20 years of shaving. Dean missed entire patches, mismatched the height of my sideburns and caused some severe irritation on my neck. The razor did not feel sharp and Dean's technique was awful. Usually the barber shaves with the grain, then across the grain left, then right. Dean was all over the place. Sometimes against the grain, sometimes across, just no consistency. Makes me wonder how many shaves he's performed. He didn't use warmed lather, instead used a brush, which is usually OK, but it was with cool water and the lather was extremely weak, not a typical thick lather. To top it all off, he didn't offer any aftershave when he was finished. Slim's may be a terrific place for haircuts, but if you're looking for a professional straight razor shave, I'd go somewhere else.

This is a complete old-skool barber shop where a man can get a great cut and a shave for next to nothing. The quality is great and the boys always step out of there looking and feeling like a million bucks!
Here's a tip to help with the long wait- call ahead and get your name on the list about an hour before you plan to go and plan to go early! -

Old School two chair barber shop. Sattellite TV is always on, good conversation and a nice clean high and tight.
Bring your cash, because does not accept checks and definatley does not accept American Express (or Visa, MC, etc...) -

I'm not sure why my last review got removed. Probably some cry baby whining about how I PWNED them. Anyways, Slim is the best and he deserves all of the success in the world. I refer all of my friends to him and they are all like, you drive WHERE to get your haircut. Oh well, I come out looking pimp every time. So go get your **** faded up at Slims.

Best shop around . Every time I go there I see people who have driven an hour to get there . Great at all kinds of cuts , especially the shorter cuts by Slim . Very affordable . Great friendly atmosphere .

having the day off, i decided to make the long trek, (really, less than an hour), from the city out to see my favorite barber. i used to see kevin, at the model barbershop, in chicago before he opened his own place out in crystal lake. i was not disappointed. it had been awhile since my last haircut and i was looking quite shaggy. with the warmer weather, i knew it was time for a high and tight flat top. there was no one else i would rather have cut my hair than him. he really knows how to handle a clippers, especially when doing an extreme skin fade. he takes his time to do the job right. he has a deft touch, the deck is level, square and super flat. just the way i like it. i've seen him do great longer cuts as well, but if short is what you want, this is the place to go.
