I mean.........free (for ladies), good music, strong drinks, why not?
only negative is being a meat market with occasional creepy dudes.. eh, some people are down with that.
Really fun place, music was good, and the drinks were good!
The only reason why they get 3 stars and not 4 or 5 is beacuse they only allow you to ride the slide on Friday and Saturdays. I was there on Thursday and I really wanted to ride the slide.
Why is the bar named Slide? Is it beacuse they have a slide? I think you should be able to ride it any day of the week. That was lame that we were not able to.
"Look what the cat hauled in.
Me and a couple friends.
Don't need to settle down.
My body don't know how..."
Maybe it was alcohol working it's magic, but my body seriously didn't know how to settle down last night!
Mad Hatter Halloween party was poppin'! Cool DJ spinning tunes of all sorts. He could have played more top 40 hits, but at least the music was danceable and the transitions flowed smoothly. Bathrooms were nice and clean (emphasis on "were"). After a few hours into the evening and a mass of drunk girls running in and out, every stall was trashed. And to the chick that BLED onto the floor in the 2nd stall - you nasty.
Regardless of the bloody bathroom, I definitely think Slide is one of the nicer clubs in SF. Small, but not too small. Crowded, but not too crowded. There was the perfect amount of people gettin' down without feeling stuffy and claustrophobic. Haaaay to all the eye-candy that came out last night, especially Gonzo! Drinks were decently strong. However, after the AMF, I was a walking disaster. 3 inch heels + linoleum = my booty constantly making friends with the floor.
With bruises on my body and blisters on my toes, I had tons of fun at Slide. I'm leaving 1 star off until I'm wearing the appropriate attire to go down the slide at the entrance. Talk about being strict by having Alice In Wonderland guarding the slide, but I guess they don't want chicks in dresses showing off their vajayjay to the rest of the club. Thanks for saving us from that image.
thank goodness i was warned to wear pants otherwise, i wouldn't be able to slide down the slide! Must I add, this slide is dangerous and goes fast! Its no kiddie slide its a adult slide! hahahahah
Music is okay and the drinks price is so so...
The thing is, I had a good time the first time around so 2nd time should be the same right?
I was verrrryyy wrong. This place is the worst place you could go to party in SF. There are a million other places that are consistently great with service and civility and class.
Having a good time should not be a crap shoot. If you pick 'Slide' there's a 80% chance you'll run into an asshole manager or douche-y bouncer. Don't let that ruin your night out with friends. The venue should never be the reason for a bad time. Trust me on this, there are a ton of other choices. Don't pick this one.
Ugh... never get a chance to go on the slide in Slide... Because I always have dress on not pants... but finally! Last night!... I have my shots on! Yeah... But... then turns out... I have to take my shoes off! Seriously? I'm not going to take my lovely high heels off. But anyway, music is alright, guys are handsome, girls are hum mm.... so so... So, 3 stars are for the real slide in a club and also for I can't get on this thing ever! Ugh... lol
A sad place trying too hard to be cool.
I planned to come here to do a little joint bday bash with a friend of mine. We knew we were going to have a lot of guy friends show up, so we thought about getting bottling service. When I called in, we found out that you can only put a handful of names on the guestlist if you got a table, so the woman on the phone said just show up before 11pm and you should be fine.
We got there, waited in line; and when we got to the front, the bouncer took one look at the 6 guys I had with me and said if we weren't on the guest list, we weren't getting in. Then he proceeded to let in a group of 3 girls who were definitely not on the guest list. So there I was championing antisexism for the boys. Definitely not how you want to spend your birthday. The bouncer was being a total jerk, so we ended up leaving for Swig around the corner, and we had the best birthday ever.
Fuck everything about this place.
Bouncers: ya shoulda stayed in school and maybe the purpose of your existence would go beyond keeping people to stand in a straight line. you're not protecting the president-- you're lifting ropes so that people can fall down your poorly lit stairs. Yup, you're big dudes, so-- keeping lifting those weights cuz your job is to make people wait (that's called a rhyme).
to the management: clap clap, you run a shitty club.
I'll definitely come back here again (when it shuts down and they're selling the furniture).
I'll round this place from a 3.5 to a 4, and also keep in mind that I:
1) Didn't buy drinks -- but they seem damn worth whatever they charge if you know what I mean
2) Didn't go down the slide -- common sense for a girl.
3) Had pretty low expectations
4) Didn't pay for cover (show up early and bring yo chicks)
Music was surprisingly good when I went -- DJ knew how to mix and transition his hip hop and electro, mashups were done well, and the variety was pretty damn good. Crowd was decently mixed although more on the Asian side, but everyone was down to get down. I had a good time.
*A Word of Caution*
That slide is dangerous! No matter how exciting it seems, do not attempt to slide down without permission. You'll most likely injure yourself at the bottom because you'll fly off of it without someone to catch you there. Then the bouncers will threaten to kick you out. You can't go on the slide in a dress or skirt, but I wouldn't wear shorts either because the friction will probably burn your legs.
Aside from any slide mishaps, it's a pretty fun place. Good music, but the dance floor got way too crowded early in the night. I liked the overall vibe when I wasn't feeling claustrophobic, although I'm not so sure about the bellybutton-esque ceiling design.
Note to the guys: They seem to strictly abide by a one-to-one guy/girl ratio unless you're willing to spend a ton on table service.
Girls night out in the city at Slide! Well at least the ones who survived pre-saki bombs & basil martinis... Apparently it was a reservations only night, but somehow, some reason the random dudes in front of us paid for our way in. I had no expectations of the place what so ever and was pleasantly surprised by the welcome of the wooden slide down to the dance floor. With my 4 inch heels off, down I went, and boy was it fast.
Anyhoot, this place was jammed packed! Felt like sardines up in this joint. I found myself a nice little corner and that's when the night really began. The DJ definitely knew his stuff. One of the best reps I've heard. It was a mixture of 80's dance / electronica / house.
An hour and a half of dancing and I had to get out of there. I was sweaty, getting claustrophobic, and feeling a bit dizzy from the nights intake of beverages. With the exception of the obviously over capacitated room, I would definitely come here again. The vibe, the mixed crowd, and the music definitely made this be the poppin' place of the night. I'm giving this place 4 stars for good company, good music, and a good flippin' time and -1 star for being a complete fire hazard.
this place sucks!
I don't know how much more I can say after 644 other reviews but here goes:
bouncers are assholes and are on a power trip
drinks are $10+
drinks have ONE shot in them... "we are on camera, we cannot pour more alcohol into your drink"
the place is called Slide.... and I have now been here twice when the slide was closed... out of 3 total times I have been here
Music is whatever
the bouncers try to sell you on the tables that cost $200 and fit 4 people
when you say no to the bouncer they look at you like you are stupid
the only plus I can give to this place is that their bathrooms are fairly clean.
Ruby Skye is just as much of a hassle, the bouncers are on just as much of a power trip, but at least they have good Djs and shows. Screw Slide, go next door to Ruby Skye if you must have one of those nights
Tuck your elbows in, ladies, and be conscious that the hemline of your dress will rise at least 4 inches by the time you get to the bottom. I suggest a new ladies rule for the slide: please wear underwear. You can take it off later, but until they sanitize the slide after every use, keep your knickers on!
All other aspects of this establishment have been duly reviewed, and I agree with the majority. It's probably a better club than most in SF, if you're looking for club beats you can recognize, vibrant goodlooking urban professionals, central union square location that can't be beat, and there's the slide- fun!
My friends and I had one of the worst nights of our lives here last night. It was truly shocking.
We read the reviews in advance and made sure to have an equal guy to girl ratio. We had with about 20 people ready to spend all kinds of money at the bar and have a crazy good time for a birthday celebration.
So, we got into line and they were carefully counting girl and guy quantities to be sure as they let some of us in. But then one of my friends made a comment about not being a "real" guy (b'c he's gay) and instantly the bouncer said "oh, you're too sensitive to come in here" and opened the rope for him to get out of line. It was incredible! Basically he was saying: because you are gay you can't come into this club. We tried to talk to his manager about it and he insisted the bouncer had done nothing wrong.
Slide is run by homophobic assholes. Don't give them your money.
This is a good place to sip on drinks and a little bit of dancing. The venue is kind of small, but I like how it sneaks up on you when you first look for the place. There's no sign that says "Slide", but it is right next to Ruby Skye. I didn't get to go down the slide, (yes an actual slide), but that's a nice little feature since it fits the name perfectly.
Def not my favorite spot.. we got their pretty early (a little after 10)... so getting in was pretty easy. The bouncer told us to "play along" as he pretended we were on "the list", not sure why bc the place was pretty empty at that time of the night. The club itself is pretty cool... kinda small, but that is part of the charm.
I will say that the drinks are a little over priced in my opinion... $6 a beer... didn't even get a lime for my Corona (- 1 star for that), around $10 for a shot/mixed drink... the dance floor is right next to the bar, so it gets packed with people just stainding around, which wasn't a big deal because the DJ was average at best...
We did get to go down the slide.... overrated.
Has Slide gotten trashier or is it just me? I used to like Slide b/c of its classy ambiance and crowd, but the last couple of times I went, I witnessed some raunchy and scandalous shit. One guy had his shirt off, drunk off his ass, and was literally molesting a poor girl. Well, maybe not such a poor girl since she seemed to be enjoying it. I saw people dropping their glasses everywhere and it got so stuffy and nasty to the point where I had to go up and get some air. I never looked back after that.... we quite enjoyed ourselves at Jack in the Box across the street with our curly fries, instead of being pushed, shoved, and stepped on.
It never used to be that bad.... or I'm just getting old. If you still want to go there, make sure you have more girls than guys, otherwise you'd have to get a bottle service to get in!
Sooo I went there for a friend's Birthday.... I gave my card to the bartenders to put on tab. It was a fun place to go to and they used to play energy dance music but the music has improved and they play fun hip hop now. Finally something I can dance to...
So the end of the night comes along and my night was good until this point. The bartender, a white guy with Blond curlyish hair, kinda tall refuses to give me my card back and tells me they don't have my debit card. Shady right? I start yelling at him and such to make him give me back my card!!! I told him: I know you have my card!! Give it back to me!!! I know I put it down for tab, I am not even drunk give me my card back right now!!! He looks at me like I am a complete idiot and tells me there's no card there. I was like I want to talk to someone else other than you!!!!
So I talk to someone else, and they got me my card back to me...
So end of story, that bartender is a total jackass and hella Effing Shady trying to keep my debit card and refusing to give it back to me... What a Shady Mother Effer.... Trying to keep my card... So be careful when you leave your card at Slide because this Jackass still works there and beware of him because I sense he was trying to keep my card and then what? I will find that my card was used in various places.... As he would probably have stolen it.... So be careful and beware of this guy and your credit/debit cards.... Make sure if you put it down on tab, make sure you definitely get it back no matter what!!!! Don't listen to them if they say the card is not there and you know you left it with them... Yell at them, whatever you have to do to get your card back... Seriously....
I was there with Corinne R. to witness the whole mess. I WILL NOT be going to Slide ever again.
Not only was the door bouncer a jerk, the guy guarding the sidewalk in front (or whatever the eff he was doing) kept yelling at us to move, when we were in the way of NOTHING. There was a good 3 or 4 feet of open sidewalk for people to get by. It was completely ridiculous.
The whole event even brought one of our friends to tears. Not at all how we wanted to celebrate birthdays.
Slide will never get my $.
I nearly lost my hearing hear once.
I also fell down the stairs on the way in. It was pretty awesome.
I wish slide used their slide more often.
I always hear horrific stories from people about the bouncers/getting in to this place but I've never had a problem. I've managed to weasel my way in just fine.
I like slide.
I dont see what the big deal is about this place - I went because my friend really wanted to go - the security guys outside are nicer then the ones inside - I got pushed around and eventually knocked someone over I apologized to that person but the guy behind me (the DJ) was an ignorant being the security guy told me i had to leave for apparently telling him iut was his fault for knocking the person over - before i left I turned to the guy and asked him if he was really doing his job because it seemed like he wasnt there is no clear path to get out of the place when you are in the need to get out.
If you want to see girls bare asses when they bend over too this is the place to go
The adrenalin rush from sliding down the wooden slide was enough to get me going in this establishment. I came for a "Happy Hour" tech event. Somewhere via "Eye-Fi" there is a picture of me getting off of the slide.
I like the decor from the large ceiling light fixtures to the velvet and plush booths and seating. There was no dancing. The place was packed. I am trying to imagine what it would be like. I might get a bit claustrophobic if that was going on.
I do like the bar and that slide. I would happily return.
I went to Slide with some friends from out of town for a sponsored Absolut and MetroWize party...and it was fucking spectacular.
I guess they were 'launching' Absolute Mango, even though I just checked and it's been around since 2007. Maybe it hasn't been Stateside that long...I have no idea, I don't drink Absolut.
My friends got there, and were pretty confused since we'd never heard of this place. We walked in and realized...they had a slide at the entrance. Of course...it all made sense now. We promptly slid to the lower level, to discover a mass of people putting away free hooch.
We got in line for drinks, and after a decent wait, we got 'em. I think we all got vodka-RBs, but who knows. We finished them quickly, and were a little sad because we finished them so quickly. We trotted back into line at which point, we had this critical exchange with the cute and friendly bartender:
Ike: "What do you recommend here?"
Bartender: -lists off drinks-
Ike: "Ok...just get me what you like then"
Bartender: "Got it"
Andrew: "Same here...but...can I have...two?"
Bartender: "Sure"
Me: "Can I have...three? Actually, how many can I have?"
Bartender: "I dunno...as many as you like...they are free?"
Me: "Give me 5"
Andrew and Ike: "Yes, 5!"
I haven't been to an open bar where they let you take as much as you like. Usually you can only get one so that drinks don't deplete instantly. Slide and Absolut don't play that shit. Amazing.
At this point, we were walking around with drinks on our elbows. This is where I stopped remembering things. I just remembering looking at pictures and realized we bummed cigarettes off a homeless dude at the end of the night. Seems like a 5 star time to me.
I don't know how it is otherwise, because I don't go out too much in the Union Square area (besides Foley's...for whatever reason), so I can't speak on it's 'normal' days. But the layout of the place and bartenders were great. I'll go back here next time I'm in the Civic Center/Union Square area (probs when I'm back at the Moscone again).
One of my tops in party spots in San Francisco is you want dance music and a more LA vibe.
Don't get me wrong, I'm more of a dive bar type, but every once in a while you've gotta mix it up.
Bottle service is a couple hundred but it's not really necessary unless you have a bigger party...
I've had one experience at Slide. The place is very posh and is where all the 'beautiful' people congregate. I walked straight to the bar and saw the makings of a cosmopolitan. Out of curiousity I asked the bartender how much a cosmo was. $13. I am among the group of people that one drink shouldn't cost as much as the bottle. I immediately responded, 'Get me a PBR' (my favorite anyways)
He looked at me with distain and replied, ' Look around, where do you think you are? A frat party?' I was so taken aback by his snooty comment. Where did all the friendly people run off to? Certainly not in this polished, trendy environment.
Call me old fashioned, but I only like to give my money to people, businesses and organizations that like me back and don't judge me for my drink of choice.
I won't ever go back to Slide. Not if anyone paid me.
The slide was fun - though I was on photo duty because I was in a dress. We didn't pay cover. I hate fighting to get anything at the bar. Dance mix was decent. Thank goodness for Thriller!
ambiance - speakeasy sexy style, dim lights, leather, sleek
but seriously needs better ventilation (or you can just skip gym class)
classy and good looking clientele, def not ta bunch of high school kids or predators but that doesnt say much about their dance skills everyone was stiff.
Good music...song transitions could use some work
Cant go down the slide unless you have pants on?! aw shucks!!
but some really nice guy did offer me his...
i think this is the first bay area club to break a 3 star rating. This one is exceptional to me. First off there is no cover. I have heard of command and control with bouncers before. Apparently, if they ask you if you are on the guestlist, its game over, there is no list.
Fret not, while parking, I saw 3 guys go in around 930. So early is the way to go if you didn't bring any girls with you. The crowd is more upscale, not wannabe pretentious either, lots of dancing and chatting going on. Bouncers do a good job of filtering the crowd. No sausage fest here.
Music was a little older, like snoop dogg. They still played new stuff like lady gaga but it was awesome to bring it back. Lots of pop and hip hop that you could dance to, nothing too hyphy or ghetto.
Bartender hooked it up. Always there and ready to get my drink fast. The staff closed the slide early but later in the night they opened it. They need one person at the top and one at the bottom to watch all us drunk folks. At closing time, I left my GF's jacket at coat check. The bouncer was nice enough to get it for me.
Decor: The place is nice. A bit small on the inside but a nice sized bar giving plenty of squeeze in opportunities. Love the slide! It gets even more entertaining when girls go down the slide when really "They shouldn't have!" Seating is on a bottle service basis.
Dance floor: Not very clearly marked so the dance floor and standing are are the same thing. Meaning people bump into you :(
Ambiance: Meh! Mixed crowd, the DJ started off well but had horrible flow and ended up mixing up completely random stuff. It was mostly top 40 kinda stuff. Overall a good place to try out and frequent occasionally.
El Bano: As always was gross and not well taken care of.
You wouldn't even notice the place because its right next to Ruby Skye and the lines kind of coincide, but Slide is right next door. I like coming here because there isn't a cover, but that being said, it can get pretty crowded.
There's a full bar and drinks are expensive, but the bartenders make good, overpriced drinks. The music is okay- top 40, hip hop, etc. but sometimes the DJs don't seem to know what they're doing and that makes me want to sit and people watch. Speaking of people watching, I saw Sean Penn here one night so that was exciting.
Slide is pretty fun! I'd say best nights are Friday/Saturday. But theres a crowd so get there kinda early.
Did we slide down? No.
No cover on the Saturday night when we went there. The lines were out the door but it was fairly quick to get into the club.
Dance floor - Moderate in size but great sound system compared to the dance floor at the Bubble Lounge. Very crowded with a lot of sweaty arms, tee shirts, and drink spillage.
Music - Did I enjoy it? They played some top 40s that evening and some rock & roll type of music.
Crowd - Mostly Caucasians.
I had a pretty good time here last Friday (9/25) with a bunch of friends. I thoroughly enjoyed the music, which was a real mix of hip-hop, electronica, and who knows what. We got there around 10.30, which is still a little early. As it got later in the night, the place did get really crowded, but we found ourselves a little corner and danced the night away. The drinks are expensive. $10 Absolute & tonic gets you a tiny glass with maybe one shot. Depending on the number of people in your party, getting a bottle might be a better deal. Bouncers inside are real assholes, but I didn't have to deal with them very much. The bartenders are pretty quick and I didn't have to wait too long to order a drink. Overall, I really liked the crowd that was there. People were dressed to impress and having a good time. No sour faces here.
Good looking clientele. Good music. Room to move if you go early enough (ie 10pm-ish). Reasonable drink prices. More intimate than other clubs. Watch out for the slide! It's wicked fast and I left a portion of my elbow on it!
Do not go down the slide!!! It is extremely steep and not for a girl especially in heels! I skinned my elbows, along with every girl in my group! Almost every single person I know who has been to this club, skinned their elbows. It is simply not a safe slide.
Other than that, this place is way tooo crowded to have fun in. I do not recommend.
Went here once with my friend from out of town last year. We were planning to go to Ruby Skye, but they were sold out so we ended up here instead.
Line is horrible, the place was not even busy and we waited an hour in line. Bouncers are rude and intentionally slow. No cover though. It was guest list only but they let us in anyways.
The decor is neat. There is supposed to be a slide in there, hence the name, but I do not remember it. Music was hip hop and house mix. $20 for two drinks, typical for SF.
A lot of fun though, plenty of room, good music, and fun with friends. Recommend it, but have not returned since.
I don"t normally come here but this last sunday they had Djs Jah Rocker and mei-lwun spinning an all house set, in kind of a battle format. It was SOOO amazing I had the time of my life, drink prices were almost worse than Vegas prices(i thought we were past this) 9 dollars for well vodka?Anyways I cant speak for other days but the sunday party is the real deal holyfield!!!!!!
Basically, this bar was good enough to get me out of my Yelp-bernation.
After a torturous and thankfully brief experience at Blues & Biscuits (I think?) across the street, my friend suggested we try Slide. I was surprised that I'd never heard of it, and when we got to the front door, I exclaimed "OH, so that's what's here! Always wondered." It's RIGHT next to Ruby Skye, one of the biggest and most advertised straight clubs in San Francisco. Slide's entrance is an unassuming single door, dwarfed in comparison to Ruby Skye's larger than life exterior. Slide used to be a speakeasy during Prohibition, so the actual venue was underground. (Any bar/club that's subterranean automatically wins points in my book.)
We got in without any wait, muss, fuss, or cover charge. Sweet. And upon entering, I stated the obvious: "Huh, so *that's* why it's called 'Slide'." There was a playground-like slide that transports patrons from the ground-level entrance to the foot of the dance floor one story below.
Now, I'm used to loud music capable of busting your ear drums, but the decibel level inside Slide was a totally ridiculous. I actually bitched about it to my friend Jen a few times b/c it was so bad. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is my only complaint of the review and reason for knocking off one star.
I don't know if we came on a good night, but I ended up having an absolute blast. It was packed (a Wednesday!), the DJ's were going off, and everyone on the dance floor was tearing the place up. Yes, actual straight men were dancing, and they were *good*. It's one thing to see dozens of people dancing up a storm and having a good time, but it's another to be impressed. My usual (Belvedere/7Up) was expensive, but it was practically a double. Fucking happy ass camper, I was.
We regretfully left the venue around the stroke of midnight, and I vowed to return. As Yelp as my witness, Slide WILL become my staple downtown straight bar of choice.
Came here on a Friday night, and I must say I had a lot of fun.
Best security guys ever! Customer service is top of the line.
The decor was nice, and kudos for our table being right in front of the dance floor.
Music was great. I remember wanting to dance to every song.
Over all, I like it!
Minus one star for that girl to guy ratio that they enforce.
2 Stars because instead of wasting our time the bouncer straight up said it's a strict guest list, either you are on it or not. NO BS.
I was not. =(
I passed on going down the slide since word made it to the top of the members of our party that had bailed at the bottom. Cute gimmick though, it reminded me of clubs in Manhattan and I like the speak easy lore, but after getting into the venue everything else is a little anticlimactic.
The place was crowded and there was no place to sit down unless you were ready to spring for bottle service starting at $260. The music was just OK and it is a drag when the dance floor backs right up to the bar. So we had one drink and left.
The best things that can be said about Slide is that the doorman was very professional and the interior decor is above average.
