So many memories.  This is where my mom used to take us when we were kids.  It was an easy cheep place for a single mom of three.  We would spend all day at the beach and then head over to the drive in and watch all the movies till 2 in the morning and head home.  Then we would do it all over again the next weekend.

*sigh*  welcome to the new housing development that will probably go there.  :'o(

WTH?
When did this place close?
They lose a star for always showing one awesome movie and one sucky movie for their double feature
I spent many an evening "watching" ahem ahem many horrible movies here
Wait I lie
I didn't really even see that many movies here even though I went pretty often
;-)
It was so much fun to get takeout from Golden Buddha down the street watch the good movie, then ignore the movie in true drive-in fashion
Plus they had the awesome flea market!

Sad.

It was a perfect flea market Saturday, not too hot and not too cold, the sun was out and the whole day ahead of us. We drive here to find that it is now closed.  Guess we should have looked at the Yelp reviews.  Either way it was a nice day by the beach. There's not many drive-in theatres left in the United States; a big part of our nostalgic past gone.

Another sign that everything disintegrates over time.
Skyview was the shit.
Per link below, CLOSED Dec 2nd.

http://www.skyviewsant...

The Flea was how locals furnished their houses and spent many an early weekend morning sellin or browsin for specials.
With this closing we have lost yet another part of what made SC special.

SO UNBELIEVABLY SUCKY!!!
The Skyview, 5 stars for the nostalgia, prices, and ability to do and say anything in public at the movies, GONE.
                                    F!@#$%#@**&^%$#!!!!
Why do we sell off our cheap and fun kitchy stuff to do fer nuthin. I hear the hospital that will be getting this 13 acre spot is paying  only 1 million.
Our community members could kick down 10 or 20 bucks each to save it.....but no... its gonna be more doctors.
No more movies in yer vehicle for 6 bucks. No more flea market with vendors that have used this venue for their only source of income for the last 15 years. Whah what a sad state of affairs. Aurevoir Skyview
PS should we just go drink and smoke at the parking lot of the new sutter health building when it's built? We could do guerilla theatre on one of the new walls!!

This is the only Drive-In I've been to but all my expectations were met and I had an amazing time at that!

Expect that it's not the best sounding theatre in the world (it's your car's stereo), and expect a lot of little kids always running around (family friendly place), but it's a cheap ticket with the comfort of your own car and anything else you bring (blankets! alcohol! food!).

There's more to be distracted by because your peripheral vision will catch the outside activities, but going with a date in a good car is great, though the middle console can get in the way (heehee).  If you're feeling adventures, there's always the option of backing into a place and watching it from the back seats (if they fall down -- or truck bed) and even on the roof of a car.

Anyway, keep the classics alive!

I had never been to a drive-in before. Most people 'round here seems to gasp with disbelief when I say that, but it's true - not much call for them in the Grim North of England. But here in the clement California climate I cannot understand why they have almost vanished completely.

This was great. What's not to like. Two ladies, the pooch, and myself crammed into the front seat of the pickup. You can talk, eat, drink, smoke, sing, heckle, whatever you like, and no one will say "shhh" - not even once! Heck - you could even park a ways off from the crowd and make out. See - I am full of good ideas!

What's not to like? We will definitely be going back. C'mon - give these places some props and some support - before they ALL disappear!

(The cost is $6 per person and the concessions are basic, but the cheapest you will ever see.... practically free, really!)

(The movie Sucked-with-a-capital-S: Dreamgirls. Eddie Murphy deserves a few props, but the fact that a comedian was the standout in a musical should tell you something about the rest! The singers were great, but the songs.... blech!)

SAVE OUR DRIVE IN!  There's a rumor floating around that it may be no more.  Nothing fancy that's for sure, but talk about a great and inexpensive way to see a movie.  You can enjoy it from your car, or you can bring chairs and blankets and enjoy the great outdoors - the gentlemen selling tickets offers complintary radios for just that reason - nothing like saving that car battery.  The food is nothing to brag about, but then what movie house food ever is.  Skyview Drive-in offers 2 screens, both of which play double headers.  Great weekend idea.

i've also heard that the drive-in is about to be turned into some condos by Barry Swenson. i love this drive-in for its movies but especially for the flea market. it runs friday thru sunday every weekend and it goes off on sundays! i used to live within walking distance and spent every sunday walking through the isles scoring some great deals and buying produce. i would hate to see this disappear.
as far as the drive-in goes, we love being able to bring our dogs to the movies and talking them to the concession stand. the free loaner boom box was an added bonus when my car stereo wasn't working. this place is all around awesome!

Amen Ping P. How can the Skyview not be getting some serious props? Kid-friendly, date-friendly, loner-friendly... it is, by far, my favorite way to watch a movie. The Capital drive-in in San Jose has a pretty suspect and motley crowd of attendees but Skyview is like Mom's apple pie.

On Thursday nights you can see TWO brand NEW movies for only $4!! What a deal! Kids under 12 are always FREE too... not that I have kids, but if I did I would be packing them in the car for a breeder movie blowout on the cheap.

Check out listings and showtimes on their site at http://www.skyviewsant....

What in the world???? no reviews for this landmark drive-in?

Safe, top movies, kids running around, camp chairs outside the car, coolers full of goodies. the occasional weird security guy moseying around making sure you're not watching the "wrong" movie- better watch the one you paid for.

summertime, wintertime, it's cheap, you can talk the whole time if you feel you need to. bring your sleeping bag, bring your pillow, bring your alarm clock, with such comfort and late night viewings don't be surprised when you wake up and it's all over.

I spent many idyllic summer evenings here as teenager with my sister and other kids in the neighborhood - and no, I'm not a 50 yr old baby boomer. I'm all of 24 - and this is why drive-ins are such a great nostalgic experience.

The allure is also practical: 2 movies for $6?! Unheard of. Plus you get to watch the cute old-fashioned, sexually suggestive little commercials for the food stands with the hot dog jumping into the bun. Awesome.

Tip: it's fun to go here in a truck, put sleeping bags in the back, and lay out that way. [No, I am not white trash.] Just make sure to wear millions of layers because it will get cold, and bring a boom box so you can tune to the radio station to hear the films.

Basically, everyone should take a detour here because it may not be around for many years more, according to the following article:

I read the above with a heavy heart a few weeks ago, but haven't heard any other news on this since.

This place is a blast from the past.  So fun to see a double header at the drive in.  The food isn't extraordinary - so bring your own.
Something else I wish we had in Alameda.
