Fun! Fun! Fun!

We took the Haleakela tour because of our fear of the unknown.  5 ziplines, all over in about 1.5hrs.  Meet at the office about 1/2 hr before and get the harnesses strapped onto you.  Then we started off with a short 5min hike to the first zipline (after that the lines are right next to each other).  At each line, they will give you info on some hawaiian bird, which you will probably forget after as I did.

The first 4 lines are warmups, which was good for me since I can be a big scaredy cat.  The last one was the longest and fastest...and funnest~!  I would take the advice of the other Yelpers and go with the Kaanapali tour if I could do it again, supposedly faster/longer zips and more for your moneys.

A plus about this tour was that it's over fast so you can do other things on the rest of yoru day.  Overall, it was fantastic, and another highlight of our Maui trip!

Do it Kaanapali Style! Eight Zip lines and memories for a lifetime. An awesome adventure worth every penny of your hard earned vacation $$$
The tour guides keep things light and the views are great.
TIP:
Don't wear your good shoes, the red volcanic dirt will cover them for sure. Rub your sunscreen on before you leave the hotel so it has time to absorb into your skin, the humidity here makes the lotion slide right off. A great place to bring out that inner Tarzan.
Harness, helmet, fanny pack and water bottle complete with water are all provided and the afternoon trip includes lunch.

WooooooHooooooo!!!!!   That's what you say when you zip down the line the first time!

I have heard about zip lines from friends and family in the past several years and thought I'd try it on this Maui trip.

You meet at the Skyline Eco-Adventures office a half hour before to sign your life away, then they load you in a van (back to front) to get your gear, then load you into the super duty van (back to front again) to reach the first zip line.  The roads are BuMpYyyyyy so be prepared to bounce around and you gotta keep your helmet on.

We would have rather gone on an earlier tour, but since Hurricane Felicia was approaching, we didn't know if we could go on our original date, so we booked a date a few days earlier at 12noon was the only available time.  It worked out for the best because we had a great time.  Our guides were BJ and Chad who not only took care of us, but made sure we were safe and had lots of fun.  They joked around and made all sorts of funny and corny jokes.

There's a bit of nervousness BEFORE the first zip line, but BJ and Chad took care of that right away, then EVERYONE had a great time.

After 4 ziplines, we had a chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes lunch with chips and a brownie.  There's only water to drink.  While we ate, we watched some mongooses running around.  They were cute.

After lunch, there was more excitement and entertainment.  We finished the remaining 4 zip lines and it culminated with the 1000' zip line, which is pretty sweet.

You load up into the super van (back to front to be courteous) and go bumping down the mountain to the gear station.  Unload, tip your guides, then head back to the Skyline office and buy some souvenirs if you wish.

Overall, an excellent trip, but a bit pricey ($140 a person) for the 8 zip line Ka'anapali trip.  However, you're on vacation, so live a little.  But, I give 4.5 stars overall, not 5 and mainly due to price.

Mahalo!

Sooo much fun!! would recommend the Kaanapali one where you get to do 8 lines, starting around 450ft to the longest of 1200 feet. It took about 4.5 hours for our tour and it was a blast, our tour guides were George and Luke and they were so much fun.
I would recommend either doing an early am one or we did ours at 1pm because otherwise it gets pretty hot up there. Ours was at 1pm, so it wasn't too bad. Agree with Michele M., don't wear your nice shoes, they will get covered up in that red dirt. Our shoes, socks and legs were covered by the time we were finished, but it was worth the trip - would definitely do it again!

This was amazing! Our two tour guides were super nice and very funny. They kept us laughing and entertained for 3 hours. Even when he purposely let me fall back and get stuck in the middle so he can save me. I youtubed it. The funniest video ever!  So worth the money.  Even getting all dirty from the red dirt.  I did the Ka'anapali tour.

This is the one thing I really wanted to do on our honeymoon and both my husband and I agree, the cost of the Kaanapali Zipline was the best money we spent on our trip.  3.5 hours, 8 ziplines.  I was told this was the best tour on the island...nothing to compare it to, but I believe it.

Better to book for early morning, it got really hot as the day progressed.    Breakfast was simple- fruit and pastries.  Cold water throughout the tour.  A bit of hiking which was nice as well.  Really bumpy van ride up and really sweaty ride down, but you deal with it.

Our guides, Josh and Colin, seem to have done what we all wish we did out of college...they took off to Hawaii in search for something other than the mainland corporate life. They were extremely eco-conscious and funny (corny as well).  Their personalities definitely kept my mind off the fact that I was jumping off into a ravine.  If you have a good time, tip them well.

Yeeee! Zip lining is so much fun and a "must" when your in Maui! We tried the Haleakala tour..which is two hours and five zip lines. Cost for 2 people was around $165 (I think) not too bad...was worth it to us, especially if you've never done it before. Guides are also great! Fun and friendly. Next time in Maui we'll definitely try the Ka'anapali tour which is eight lines, but supposedly hotter and dustier.

We spent our honeymoon in Maui and decided last minute to try a zipline activity.  Skyline came recommended by the concierge at our hotel, so we signed up and gave it a shot.  What fun!  Whenever people ask about our trip, we always comment that zipping was the most fun thing we did.

Our two guides were entertaining, knowledgable, humerous and obviously experienced, making for an exciting, yet safe and absolutely fun trip.

We did the Ka'anapali zip tour - 8 zips ranging in length from 400ft to 1200 ft, over the valleys of Maui, looking out at the ocean.  It included lunch, and a take-away water bottle.

No zip experience needed - my only advice, wear dark colored shoes - our white shoes were stained orange by the red clay that we walked through to get from zip to zip.  I'd highly recommend this to anyone traveling to Maui!

We had an awesome time zip lining. We did the shorter crater tour  which consisted of 5 lines the last one being the longest. and it was so fun. It was my first time zipping and I can't wait to do it again. Our guides were funny and super nice. The took a group of 12 with us, but it wasn't bad at all waiting on other people because it's fun to watch. We also crossed over this crazy Indiana Jones style bridge which was the scariest part for me even though we were harnessed in. The last line was so fun and long and I'm not usually a screamer but the pure exhilaration of that thing made me scream. I can't wait to go back and try the longer tour!!

Man-oh man! What a ride! This was so much fun! There are 8 lines that you zip down.  There were 11 in our group, but it went by fast. We went down the first 4 lines and then had lunch that provided by a local deli. Then we were off to zip line down the other 4. The last line is really long and fast. It was a rush! The instructors were really funny and made you feel safe.  Once again the views are amazing!

There is nothing negative to be said about this company.  If you are in Maui, no matter which part, you must make a detour to go ziplining with these guys!!!  The instructors are extremely passionate about what they do and make sure you have a memorable experience.  I can't say enough about them!  It is an understatement to say you will have the time of your life.

We went on the Kaanapali zipline tour and it was awesome!
We had Leo and Kale as our guides and they were good fun.

Definitely recommend. We had a couple on our tour that did the Haleakala one too. They said the Kaanapali one was better.

I really enjoyed this zipline tour!  The guides were very funny and super friendly.

The only problem I had was that when I did the last loooong and super fast line one of them stood in my way when I was swinging past him and it was a collision.  My leg was bruised and I might have hit him in the face, but common I'm coming at 45 mph-get out of my way!

The Skyline Eco Adventure zip line at Haleakala is so much fun!

First you start by taking a short hike to the first zip line.  The hike is short and you don't need to go fast if you don't want.  Then you reach the first zip line (of 4 or 5 I believe).  This one is short and not too far off the ground.  It is a perfect zip line to start with!  I have a small fear of heights so I was in a small state of panic, but after seeing other people not fall off the line I decided I could do it too.  And boy was it fun!!!

Overall I think there are about 4-5 lines that you will go on.  Each one gets faster and longer.  By the end you are just leaping off the platform and zip lining through the peaks.  I think I was still nervous to be doing it but it was a lot of fun.  The guides are also cracking jokes and chit chatting while you go.  I felt pretty comfortable with them and trusted the harness and such.

For a full day, we started with the Haleakala crater sunrise tour and the bike down Haleakala crater.  About 1/4 of the way down we stopped here and went zip lining.  The two worked well together and we still had plenty of time to bike back.

We had a blast on the Kaanapali Zip-line Tour!

Apparently this is the newer of the two Eco Adventures. There were a total of eight zip-lines that all built up to the last 1100 foot grand finale. The guides, Leo and Colin, were hilarious and definitely made the trip more enjoyable. "Lunch" (fruits and pastries) left much to be desired so I'm glad I wasn't that hungry. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour and it is a must for any adventure seeker visiting Maui.

Joke:  What was Tigger doing in the toilet?
Answer:  Looking for Pooh.

One of the guides actually told this joke before I jumped off the edge of the cliff!

----------------------------

Have you ever been so nervous that you get an immediate anticipation to pee or poo?  I am not talking about the fear of public speaking, but the fear of heights. I guess everyone have their own list of fears.

On my recent adventure to Hawaii, I didn't just want to surf and tan on the beautiful beaches and check out all the pretty bodies.  Hell no!

I wanted to zip-line -- an outdoor activity that involves jumping off an high altitude platform in an harness and going down in high speed via cable.  Wheeeee!

This Haleakala tour took up two hours and was about $80 per person.  You suit up in a helmet and a harness at HQ.  Then take a short hike with a group to FIVE different zip-line courses, each being more challenging or scarier.

For the guys, it was kinda goofy to hold a 10 lb steel harness in front of your ding dong as you trek.   Now I know what it is like to have balls of steel!

The fun begins when you hear other people screaming when each takes turn, zipping through the lush rain forest. You also get to strike a pose while you are in the air as well.  Imagine doing Superman with one arm out, gliding gracefully until...

the wooden landing.  You have to smack your two feet running or else you are gonna clothesline into the fence.  Luckily, the tour guide is able to assist the athletically-challenged.

In our group, we had a 80-year old couple, who both did it with flying colors.

Tip:
* Please go to the bathroom before you go on this tour.  You will thank me.
* Do not trip with that harness in your hands.

I double dare you to check this LONG list of fears and conquer some on your own:  http://phobialist.com/

we had a great time doing this!

we did the haleakala tour which started at 1:15. the weather wasn't the best, considering it was raining a little bit off and on and there was plenty of fog. we did a total of 5 lines, with one swinging bridge to walk across. adam and kumaira ( i think that's how you spell her name?) were awesome and we had a great time with them. we were in a group of about 13 and doing the last line took some time as the group behind us caught up to us.

i have to say the last one was the best, as you speed through the fog and have no idea where you're going.

Good times! We did the Kaanapali zipline tour. Our guides were super cool: Leo & Troy. Those two are pretty funny dudes and made us feel relaxed enough to take the jump (literally) into the air. I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet but once you get up to the cliffs, the view was spectacular. You can see the ocean and everything else below you. Big FYI: go the bathroom before you get in the van. The road is extremely bumpy and may not be so great for those easily prone to motion sickness. For the lunch they provide, I would consider it more of a snack then anything. Fresh fruits w/some pastries so it was a good thing we all ate breakfast beforehand to stave off any hunger pains. They do provide you w/a free water bottle which is a plus. I'm knocking it down one star due to the price.

We did the Ka'anapali Zip Line Tour a couple of weeks ago and had a great time. There is nothing better than flinging yourself off the side of a cliff :). Be forewarned that the van drive to the zip lines is extremely bumpy!  The guys give you a great briefing beforehand and help you get all geared up. Our guides were George and Troy and they were so much fun...they really made the experience excellent...even if they did tease you a bit for being nervous.

I do have to say that the views/rain forest setting that they described on the site were a little disappointing. Definitely not up to what we expected. But it was still a lot of fun and to be honest I really wasn't looking at the views. There are 8 lines on this run and I would have loved a few more! Just be sure to watch out for the wild boars...they'll get you ;-D

This review is 2 years late, but I have to say that this was hands-down our very favorite activity during our trip to Maui a couple years ago.

It was raining the day we went, but that didn't stop us. The guides were all friendly and encouraging. The system they have set up is very safe and secure - I'm a scaredy cat and although I was a little nervous about the idea of being suspended in mid-air by a carabeener and a metal rope, adrenaline kicked in and I had an awesome time - even soaring down the line in the rain.

So freaking awesome... And that last zip - yippee! :)

So much fun! I've also been zip lining in Argentina and I have to say Maui felt a lot safer. We did the Haleakala zip line tour. It was rainy and the guides had rain jackets for us. The guides were a lot of fun and very encouraging of the group. Some people were super afraid and the guides helped them and explained everything to these people. They were also very encouraging to those of us who were not so afraid (get a running start).

After the zip line tour, keep driving up to the top of Haleakala. The crater looks like you're on another planet. It was also really beautiful to be above the cloud line but be careful, you may get woozy up there.

Highly competent guides (Seth and Kale). Eight zip lines challenging for the amateur - horrible ride to the site on a bumpy road in van overstuffed with people. Lahaina location very arid (nothing close to a rain forest) with an awesome view. Great lunch site, food a 3/5. I would give it a three star review, but Seth and Kale add another star.

This review is a little overdue, but I had such a great time that even six months later I am still 4-stars happy about the day. I went to Maui with about a dozen of my oldest and best friends and their SOs for a wedding but while we were there I wanted to make the most of my trip having never been to Hawaii before. I had never ziplined before either but I loved it.

We took the half-day Kaanapali Skyline Adventure and it wasn't as rainforesty of a setting as the pictures on their web site look - because most of those pics are for the haleakala tour. regardless, it was an experience unlike many of the other more beachy, touristy things that we did and I'm glad to have made it part of the vacay.

there were enough of us on vacation together that signed up that the whole tour was just us and the guides, which made it that much more fun. our guides were professional and helpful but also fun and engaging and friendly. i stole my yelp quote from them: safety third! (first comes having fun and second is looking good).

Imagine soaring over gulches and through the trees along the slopes of one of the world's largest volcanoes. The Haleakala  Skyline Tour blends a short hiking experience with five picturesque zip line crossings, an "Indiana Jones" style swinging bridge, and an introduction to Hawaii's unique and fragile landscape. Their award winning adventure promises to be one of the most unforgettable parts of one's Maui vacation, so step to the edge . . . and cross the line!

Their specially trained staff outfitted us with a customized seat harness and equipment before leading us into the woods, and on to the adventure. At each station, there was a plaque of an endangered bird of Hawaii. Our tour guides gave a synopsis of each bird, including the Hawaiian Crow.

Then we each got a bird's eye view of the seasonal waterfalls and vegetation below.

Taking the plunge gets a whole new meaning.  Two days after the wedding, our group of twelve  did the haleakala zip line tour.  After some calming of nerves from our guides(two had altitude issues), each got harnessed up and hit the trail.  Learning about native birds was the ecology part; flying like a bird was the zip line part.  Our guide and our group gave encouragement  as each got attached to the zip line. Starts out easy, then gets longer and faster.  Landing was the hard part.  But landing was the least of your worries on the last line-worth the price of admission(and more).  Guides were patient and comedic. You'll get your money's worth doing something at least once. Definitely want to do it again with my friends.  Adrenaline rush will happen.

Jean-Francois and Brian were our guides... they made the experience fantastic.  It's not the cheapest excursion at ~$100 per person, but I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's thought about trying it out.

First of all... I have a fear of heights.  Yeah, pretty huge phobia, actually.  I randomly decided to try it as a "hey, you're in Maui, you should try something new" kick.  The Haleakala site is recommended for amateurs (about a 0.5-mi hike to the first line...?), because the Kaanapali one has a steeper climb and the lines are a little more challenging (so I've heard... this wuss hasn't tried Kaanapali yet).  Haleakala offers 5 zip lines.  Since this company bills itself as an ecotourism experience, the guides dropped some knowledge about the local flora & fauna, which was a cute touch.   I liked how the lines got progressively more challenging.

JF & B were really great guides.  They were so helpful and funny.

A few (hopefully) helpful tips:
1)  If you're thinking of going, book before you go to Maui.  My bf and I lucked out & got the last 2 spots the day before, for 10:30a.  Our other option was the 8:30a option 3 days out.
2)  Remember to factor in travel time to your location (the major reason we stuck with the 10:30a).  We stayed in Kapalua and the woman on the phone suggested we drive out about 2 hours ahead, because there was construction on one of the roads.  We made it there in ~70 min, but that was probably because we went on a Sunday morning.
3)  Make it a day trip - if you have any interest, definitely check out the Haleakala crater.  It's about ~1 hr away because of the windy roads, but if you're already there...
4)  Buy your sig-o some flowers (protea's are amazing) when you get closer to the Haleakala zipline location.  A few residents sell them on their driveway.  They're absolutely gorgeous & your hunny will appreciate it.  :-)

OK, will turn off the computer & go back to being a beach bum...
