4 reviews for Skydive Taft
I have to admit this is one of the few things I have always wanted to try and I am glad i did it. I recommend this place because the staff is very friendly, down to earth and fun. The actual jump was a thrill unlike anything I have experienced. The ride up in the plane is nerve racking but once you jump down it is all fun. It is relatively cheap and you have the option to have someone film and photograph your experience which i would highly recommend you do specially if you are only going to this once. I'm a fan!
The only draw back is that this place is kind of far but it is worth the drive!
At first, the place didn't seem like much at first approach...old battered sign..sleepy town environment (it was a Sunday at noon so maybe most people were at home napping*. As I got in further,I noted the okay aesthetics and the limited preparation video.
Why 4 stars? It's the people who work at the company and the jumpers who use the facilities to enjoy their sport. They make it worth while with their friendliness, easy manners, fun and family like atmosphere - they seem to really care about each other and treat their clients well ...encouraging without rushing, is safety conscious and did not overly explain instructions. My tandem partner is a really nice guy Scotty who made the experience great.
To anyone who is interested in skydiving - I say try it. I swear...if the equipment wasn't so expensive, I'd drive to taft to jump every other weekend. Also best advice from a jumper/client at Taft "Don't close your eyes and just take in the experience." Was so glad I did!

"Hey we are going Thursday wanna go?"
"Go where?"
"Skydiving!!!!!!!!!!!"
It was on! Tired of boring summers of work, school or both I wanted to make something of one of my last summer breaks. What a better way to do it then the rush of sky diving? I've always thought that it would be super expensive and be one of those things you say you'll do but never really end up doing and regretting it. Well after its all said and done I can tell you I would have regretted it if I never seized the opportunity.
The drive was boring and kinda far and upon arriving at the location it looked like nobody was home. WTF? We had reservations! My friends and I finally found someone over by the hanger and finally things got rolling. After a somber safety warning and all the preps we were off to the tandem jump. Staff is super nice and really easy to talk to. They give you all the prep you need and have no qualms about any questions or concerns. They reassure you that everything was as safe as can be and they take really good care of you.
Prices are the cheapest around, $160 for first tandem with $20 student/military/birthday/service discount. Only drawback is the view isn't the best and the long drive. But for the overall experience you can't get anymore bang for the buck. Big bonus for those that live in the Los Angeles and San Fernando area that are sick of seeing those Sonic commercials but not having one around. The Sonics in Bakersfield isn't too out of the way, the food helps with any lingering nausea.

To celebrate my 25th year of life, the BF took us to skydive this morning. Another thing checked off on "things I need to do before I die"! Woohoo!!! Since we were already driving up to SF on the 5, we planned to stop at Taft and jump out of an airplane.
We arrived yesterday night before 11pm and stayed at the on-site bunkhouse for $5/person. Accommodations included a bunk to sleep and hot showers... and yes, all for the price of five bucks! We were greet upon arrival and immediately shown where we would retire for the night. Bunks were comfortable (bring your own sheets and pillows), there were clean restrooms and showers about fifteen steps to the right.
Jester was our tandem jump master. Incredibly fun and encouraging jump master. Great person to jump with! If you're nervous or scared, have no fear! Jester will talk you through the entire process, demonstrate how you'll jump out of the plane and what you'll need to do prior landing. Scotty, the videographer/photographer, is also great at calming any nerves you may have. Ron the pilot was fun to joke with and made the ride up really enjoyable.
4.5 stars... the BF made a good point regarding unkempt accommodations at the bunkhouse, thus minus half a star. Otherwise, great prices, fun staff and an amazing opportunity you won't regret. DO IT. SKY DIEV... eerr... dive.
