9 reviews for Sky Ranch Lodge
I had a very good experience staying at Sky Ranch Lodge and would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing stay in Sedona.
First off, the hotel's location is very unique. Yes, it is far away from the main part of town (you will definitely need to drive) but the hotel sits atop a mesa (along with the town airport) and has wonderful views in nearly all directions. Day or night, your breath will be taken away every time you drive up or down the road to and from the hotel. (Don't be confused by maps that incorrectly show the hotel closer to AZ-89A; it sits near the end of Airport Road just before Sedona Airport).
Secondly, the rooms are very spacious and the hotel grounds beautiful. Our room had two queen beds with plenty of space to walk around, sit, write, relax, etc. The beds were a little firm for my taste, but I still slept soundly each night, despite catching a cold while in town. Oh, and did I mention the complimentary bottled water in each room?
Finally, the hotel's rates are excellent. We had a garden room with no view, and with AAA discount it was only $72 per night. Not bad, considering the Best Western at the bottom of the hill charged $175 per night with the same discounts and for the same type of room!
The staff here are very friendly and they know what they're talking about, should you have any questions about hikes, restaurants, etc. If you don't mind driving a bit every time you want to head into town, then Sky Ranch Lodge is definitely worth considering.
Don't get these three stars wrong - they do mean "A-Ok" . . but not yet perfecto. As stated in most of the other reviews, the location and price of this place cannot be beat! I love its perch overlooking the city - away from the throngs of tourist flooding Sedona itself. Morever, the grounds are lovely and the private patios are quite a treat.
That said . . there was an angry customer in the lobby when we checked in and after ten minutes of trying to figure out what went wrong with our room, I began to understand her mood. We were told that we could only make a reservation for two nights a few days prior to our arrival (wanted three) but rooms were available for the third night once we arrived. Sadly, we did have to suffer switching rooms our third night and there was some further miscommunication about the necessary number of beds. The towels were scratchy, the pillows were nothing special and they initially overcharged me on my bill.
However, throughout all of the disorganization and faux pas, they kept great smiles and friendly attitudes. This is a lovely place with lovely people. If they improved the organization and upgraded a few of the in-room features, it would really be five star!
Looking for a room with a view without spending $$$ at a fancy resort? Then check out Sky Ranch Lodge. They have rooms overlooking the rim and all of West Sedona.
It's central to everything and a quiet, peaceful place to stay. It's not luxurious and the beds weren't great, but the price is right.
They also have a pool and an American restaurant serving B,L, and D with great views. You'll get 10% if you are a guest at the hotel.
The best hotel on our trip so far. I'm a little fearful of posting this review as it may make this little gem of a hotel too popular so I can't get a room here on my next trip!
Sky Ranch Lodge is located next to Sedona Airport, up on a hill. It's located right next to a great viewpoint that tons of people drive up to catch the view, especially at sunset. The airport mesa halfway up the airport road is also worth a short hike for the views back south.
We splashed out on a room with a view. Wow!!! I doubt many other hotel rooms in the world have a view to match this. There's a small deck outside to sit and admire the view.
The hotel room was spacious enough for 4 of us. Bathroom wasn't huge but fine for us. Just be aware that the bath isn't full size if you fancy a bath.
There's a heated pool and jacuzzi. A computer is available in the lobby.
Fantastic hotel.

After staying in Sedona for one night, I wish we could have stayed longer and spent that time relaxing at the Sky Ranch Lodge. The highest selling points are the location and price.
Our room was on the rim with an amazing view of the red rocks. I couldn't have asked for anything more while sitting on our deck as the sunset over Sedona allowing for some great photo ops. Located right next to the lodge is a scenic viewpoint that was full of tourists watching from a near identical view of the sunset as we had from our intimate private deck.
The Airport Mesa Vortex is located just down the road from the lodge. It's a very easy hike that will give you an impressive view of practically all of Sedona.
A mile down the road from the lodge is a street with everything you can possibly need: a wide range of restaurants, grocery/drug stores, and tourist information. East of that road is access to several small shops saturated with products and services in high tourist demand.
As noted on the lodge's website, Sky Ranch Lodge prides themselves on pricing integrity. Their prices aren't dependent on the season or day of the week, just strictly on availability. We booked our room a week before our visit this March and was able to get the room on the rim for $154. Very reasonable in comparison to other places and especially for being located on the top of the town.
I would definitely return to this lodge.

Believe all the good things that people have said about the hotel itself. Based on these ratings if you are looking for a HIlton or a Hyatt then you will be in for a rude surprise. This is Sedona.
Now, couple of pointers. You will be given a voucher for 20 % off for breakfast at a restaurant at the airport which is couple of minutes walking distance. I would recommend that you find yourself another place to eat breakfast. It is worth while driving for couple of minutes into downtown Sedona to get a decent breakfast. There is a farm market opposite the hotel/motel and you can find all kinds of things there. I forget the days that it operates but it is worth while going. Sunset gazing is about 100 yards down the road so be sure to take advantage of that and, of course, the Airport vortex and the long trail to the right are just down the road from the hotel, on the right hand side. You can also purchase Red Rock passes at the hotel. This saves you time and a lot of nonsense.
Enjoy.
It's worth it to get the good rooms on the side facing the Rim. They've got kitchenettes, and there's MUCH less noise from folks tramping over you on the two-floor buildings.
It's a great location for a hotel in Sedona, overlooking the entire town. An eyrie, so to speak, from which you can descend for your adventures.

I can't say I'd go back but I must admit the location of the hotel was great. This hotel is tucked away at the end of Airport Rd and is a few miles away from the touristy hotels like the Hilton.
We stayed three nights in a partial red rock view room. Although the view from our room was just average, Sky Ranch Lodge is located walking distance from a scenic viewpoint where you can take great pics of the red rocks. The Airport Mesa Vortex is located just down the street from the hotel (if you're into that stuff). I've heard you could feel the energy from the vortex a quarter of a mile away but I drove by this vortex at least 10 times and didn't feel a thing.
Pros: Great location, and a decent price compared to other hotels in the area.
Cons: Noise-This place was very noisy. You can hear everyone walking outside your room which started for us around 5 in the morning. I also woke up one morning because I could here the man in the room next to me talking very loudly. Also, the a/c we had in our room was deafening. We actually had to turn this off the first night we stayed because it kept waking us up. And although the outside of the hotel was very well kept the interior was very dated. The bedsheets and towels had to go.
I loved staying here. I truly got the feeling that the staff was thrilled to have us staying with them when we checked in, and not because we are anything special, but because they know how to make people feel welcome. They have a cute gift shop with reasonably priced tourist fare-shot glasses, Native American jewelry, guide books and toiletries you may have forgotten along the way. Cheesy, but a necessary evil when traveling! The lobby also has a huge book full of restaurant menus, shopping locations, maps and guests personal recommendations while staying in Sedona, which we definitely checked out more than once.
The rooms are simply decorated but are clean and have everything you need. As much as we would have liked to have a gorgeous view of the red rocks from our windows, we chose a room that was a bargain price ($129) and had a fireplace and a nice back porch that looked down on the well kept garden. No major views from our porch but it was a quiet, peaceful place to relax as the sun went down. Plus, our room was on the second level of a building so we didn't have to worry so much about outside creatures visiting in our room (in AZ it's incredibly common to find a baby scorpion or spiders in your hotel room-horrifying but it's common enough that most hotels warn you about it happening!).
There are awesome views of the red rocks from almost anywhere on the property and the drive up Airport Rd to get to Sky Ranch Lodge is beautiful (if you aren't the driver-it's steep). Cozy outdoor jacuzzi on property and a good sized pool. It was somewhat chilly when we were there though so we didn't get a chance to use them. There are trails that lead to the famous vortexes and a small airport both within walking distance to the property, so there is plenty to do on-foot if you have some downtime and want to explore a little.
Like Jay R. said in his review, you can hear people walking in the two floor buildings a lot. The porch on the front side of our room echoed rather loudly anytime someone walked to their room farther down. Luckily, we didn't notice this while we were sleeping, only around dinner time as people were heading out, or in mid-morning when they were heading to see sights for the day. It didn't really bother us though.
We definitely plan on coming back here next time we're in Sedona. We felt very comfortable and relaxed in our rooms and didn't want to leave when it was time to go home!
