The boys at work recommended Sky Mountain for two reasons, the golf was affordable, and the scenery was beautiful.  This golf course also has some complexity that can make you cuss a blue streak or yelp for joy.

It's always odd to find green grass plunked down in the middle of red rock canyons and desert landscaping, but the view was spectacular.  From the first tee box, the first hole is backdropped (sorry not a real word) by red rock fins (from a distance of course, and they look like little rock mountains).  If you're not careful, you'll hit into the junk (desert plants that scratch you up while looking for your ball).  The course rolls and undulates, and you don't realize the difficulty until your ball rolls off a fast green.  Some more swear words, and then on to an easier hole (par 3).  The greens on the front 9 roll very fast, and if you're not careful, you have to start over again.  Hole 4 is the trickiest.  The tee is below and the green is up a hill, and the hill undulates in several places. The people in front of us teed off, and one guy made it as far as the ladies tee. Oops!  Most of the people kept hitting their balls into the middle of the fairway for Hole 5.  Once you make it on to the green, you have to be very careful because the green rolls downhill and if it goes off the side, you've got to trek down this hill and try to get it back up on the green.

The rolling hills made me think of the matches I watched on tv that took place in Scotland.

This course is really popular because of the complexity and because it's a super good deal.  For 9 holes with a cart it was only $27.00 for offseason (there's no way that a person could walk the course make it up the hill to 4 in a manner that they would not hold up the other players behind)  The winter prices weren't bad either, and I would recommend it for all you hackers, golfers and others.

Make sure you make a reservation, or you're not going to be allowed on.  Enjoy it (don't swear too much and don't hit the houses)!

This is a fabulous course!

Just West of the town of Hurricane and about 15 minutes from St. George you will find this course nestled among lava flows and beautiful red rock formations.

The tees, fairways and greens can be very challenging with a lot of hills and valleys to play from.  The number 5 tee offers some of the best vistas and photo ops I have ever seen on a golf course and I think my camera got more of a workout here than my clubs.

I will say that the course was crowded and we were followed through the course by some of the biggest a**h**es I have ever had the pleasure to be in front of.  Why some people feel they must constantly push you when you are behind two slow foursomes is beyond me.  I can't go any faster and I won't.  If you are not on the course to have fun, you shouldn't be on the course.  (OK, off the soap box)

Another MUST play in St. George.

The most beautiful golf course I have ever played on or seen (in person or on tv). You're playing on beautifully green and perfectly manicured grass while the backdrop is red rocks in the near distance and snow covered peaks in the far distance. The course wasn't overly crowded but busy enough that I had to join another group going out (which I hate but do understand). The prices are quite reasonable which is an added bonus. Kudos Sky Mountain!
