... for dog lovers, anyway.  Funny to note that a maximum of 4 people are allowed per room, but there's no limit to the number of dogs you can have.  So, 3 women and 6 standard poodles in the junior suite -- no problem!

I can see how some might think that Kimpton's renovation of this former motel is just putting lipstick on a pig, but having a few rooms with immediate outdoor access is a real plus for those traveling with dogs.  No navigating hallways, stairwells, or elevators in the middle of the night to walk the dogs.  There's a cute little park just half a block away, too.

Some may find the animal prints and other decor elements kinda cheesy, but I loved it -- leaps and bounds better than the industrial cleaner smell and questionable bedding one finds at other "dog friendly" hotels.

What a fantastic location in Aspen!! I'm a huge fan of Sky because it's chic, it's comfortable, and it's close to everything.

During our visit, we had great service (thanks concierge!) as well as a beautiful room.  I'll definitely stay here again!

I could see how many would see this as a 4-star hotel... Kimpton usually does a great job keeping up their properties and showing their attention to "being green".  I'm not sure I would agree with the critics entirely, though.

I enjoyed the beautiful view of the mountain - and you are a block away from primo shopping and dining.  The bar always has a pretty good scene, and their specialty drinks were very tasty.  The deck space around the pool is not abundant, so you have to be willing to sit a little further away for lounging "by the pool".  The bathrooms would be my biggest disappointment, as they were the size of a small closet.  It was hard to maneuver in and out of the shower, and definitely did not have enough room for two people to get ready at the same time.

The concierge services were promising, and the service from the staff was legit.  I wouldn't recommend deailng with the front desk unless absolutely necessary.

I love Kimpton hotels, so when I booked the Sky in Aspen I thought I knew what to expect.  The rooms are very small and cramped, although once you are in bed, they are very comfortable.

The property is nice enough, the pool was a fun scene every day, including a dj spinning some tunes on Sunday.  My husband and I aren't exactly spring chickens, but we enjoyed the fun vibe and didn't feel out of place.  I didn't eat at the restaurant, but did have lunch by the pool one day and the asian noodle salad I had was good.

All in all I enjoyed the Sky, but if you like to stretch out and have a large room to stay in, this isn't the place for you.

The Sky  is what you would get if you took equal parts velvet curtains, animal print robes, red paint, plastic surgery, and branded toiletries, stuffed it all in a cannon, and fired it all at a run down Holiday Inn.

The lone redeeming points of this place are the location (it's about 10 feet shy of sporting a ski-in pool next to the Little Nell) and the hot tub (which lies another 10 feet beyond the start of the pool).

The rooms are smallish, and despite the new LCD TV's, still remind me of some of the less savory hotels I've stayed in during my years as a consultant.  The bathrooms differ from those at a Motel 6 only by virtue of new shower curtains and L'Occitane shampoo.  The staff (with the notable exception of Darren, the concierge) gets a big "meh", and for the price, I want functional internet access.

If you're spending this much already, pony up the extra $100/night and stay at the St. Regis, Little Nell, or Jerome.

Renovated Best Western turns into chic, upscale hotel with great location.  Right across the street from Little Nell.  Great pool and hot tub.   Staff is friendly and helpful.  Rates vary from sweet deals to Saudi royal family prices during high ski season.  Just depends on the dates and your flexibility.

Don't miss the rock-em-sock-em robots at the game table in the lobby.  Sweet.

Also the hotel bar, 39 Degrees is a hip night spot.  Interesting cocktail menu and ok service.

OMG!  I don't know how or where to begin to tell you about our little Sky experience.  First off we stroll up to valet and we are greeted by the wildest Apres ski bunch ever.  We didn't get the memo but I guess we were supposed to wear some fluorescent colors.  Most just threw on a pair of 80's sunglasses (think hot pink, lime green, fluorescent yellow) but others had their play clothes down to a T.   Short athletic shorts, knee high gym socks, wigs... you get the pic.

Our second night there was closing day.  There were 2 lady dancers in bikinis doing there thing on the second story balcony where the DJ jammed and jammed until 7pm.  What!  7 pm, too early!  I almost cried.

The room itself was a bit small and cozy but that is fine that is the way we like it.  The decor, lovely and my style (well I have just adopted it).  White bedding with tones of red and light brown.  I'll post some pics up in a sec to explain.  White antler lamps... does anyone get my gist?

The halls are nice and heated (almost too much) which explains why I took a nap on the 3rd  "floor".  I was in room 210P.

During the peak seasons, the Sky bar and hotel does indeed fill up. I have stayed at the hotel and the room was very nice, clean and large. The pool area can be fun, but can also get pretty hectic and cheesy for my taste. I used to enjoy the firepit area to relax and smoke but there is no smoking anymore, the smoking area is the parking lot. I used to have a favorite cocktail waitress who was super cool. The bar manager is nice, some of the bartenders are too cocky. It's an ok place to stay, but because people can stay in the pool area who are not staying in the hotel, it loses stars.

The pool bar is *the* place to see and be seen for apres ski, almost ridiculously so.  Expect it to be packed to the point you can barely move, expect to pay too much for weak pours, expect to see obnoxiously-sized engagement rings sparkling on the fingers of women who clearly have had a lot of work done... but if you're looking for a scene (and apparently a lot of people in Aspen are) it's a good time.  People dive into the pool fully-clothed for no apparent reason.  There is enough eye candy to make your jaw drop.  I definitely felt like I was on some cheezy television show on MTV... which is kind of a unique way to spend an afternoon, I suppose.  And one can never complain about drinking in the sun at the base of a mountain.

The Sky Hotel is exactly what Aspen needed - a hotel that is chic, fun and lively. One feels as if they have been transported in another time - the place reminded me out of a James Bond Movie - elegant, cool and ultra-hip. The location can't be beat - located right at the base of Aspens famous ski-area Ajax - and right in the middle of Aspens chic shopping area. This hotel is a skiers dream, since you can literally ski into this cool place and jump into the cool après-ski scene. . While in Aspen you don't need to leave this cool place since the Sky Hotel is also home to Aspen's hottest après ski lounge, the 39 Degrees bar is the best people watching scene in Aspen, period. Adjacent to the 39 degrees lounge is an ultra-cool outside lounge area with heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi and cozy lounge chairs. Every evening at 5pm guests can enjoy their daily "altitude adjustment", a wine hour, served in the lobby furnished with cool sky-scraper-high oversized white leather chairs.
The Sky Hotel offers a variety of amenities to please a wide spectrum of expectations. Every little detail is met... The rooms are cleverly decorated in a shabby chic... where one feels like their own hip decorator designed the room personally with them in mind. ...From the zebra striped carpeting, wonderful comfy king size beds, to the warm color schemes of yellow, red, white, to the faux fur throws on the bed... a fully stocked mini bar, with extras like bottled oxygen to the funky bathrobes in leopard or zebra.
