I cannot emphasize enough how amazing the Kamakaze wings are. They are perfect. Not too spicy, perfect amount of crunch. The fries were also great.
The service was very on the ball and friendly. -

This is really just an average small town bar. However, the wings were fantastic.
We were sitting in Canal Port being ignored, and decided to walk across the street and try somewhere new. This place caught our eye because the sign is a Swedish flag.
Our server was prompt and attentive but not overbearing. The Kamakaze wings were delicious. My boyfriend had the burger, which was huge, and I had a Philly, which was fine. The fries were a bit dry and the cole slaw overly creamy. But all in all it was a fine meal with excellent wings. -

So this was a very interesting place to eat because all the reviews just raved about the food. But when we were there the grill wasn't working so the only thing we could eat was fried. So that really diminished all the options. I was looking forward to the meatloaf or the pot roast or the homemade spaghetti sauce like some of the other reviews had so eagerly suggested. So we ended up with the pork tenderloin sandwich which was okay. it was kind of dry. We kept trying to put things on it to make it taste better. Chicken tenders were, well chicken tenders. But the wings, they were very good and had a very large variety of sauces to choose from. We also drank the beer. It was good! All in all, I think it was just a little too much fried food for my family.

From the get go I felt at home here, small town bar with great service. The night was slow, a Thursday during February however there were a steady stream of customers arriving. I had to try to the wings after looking at passed reviews and the kamikaze wings did not disappoint. I am not even a huge wings fan, but the sauce was finger licking good. They were so good I ended up ordering six more wings as my meal. My only advice for future diners- DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF FORGETTING YOUR LEFTOVER WINGS ON THE TABLE WHEN YOU WALK OUT. Ill be dreaming about those tonight.

We live downtown Chicago but skoogs has become our standby place when we visit starved rock. It's the perfect small town bar-great low key service, good beer selection and cheap food....and plenty of it!! I still crave their spaghetti-the sauce is amazing. It comes it's garlic bread and a salad...and the plate of pasta feels like enough to feed a family of 4! I'd definitely recommend making a stop here after a day of hiking.

Good ol' Skoog's. Stop #1 (of 3) on the downtown Utica pub crawl, we never made it to the other joints because it was so fun and comfortable here. We simply wanted a beer to unwind after a day of hiking, but on a Saturday at 6 pm, there were many families and couples at the tables and booths. We snagged two seats at the bar and enjoyed some college football on TV (Go Penn State!). In fact, they were showing three games and one NASCAR race, which is pretty good coverage for a neighborhood bar.
Beer selection was solid, better than small-town expectations dictated. I had a Killian's and a Leinenkugel's Nut Brown, and my badass hiking instructor enjoyed a Blue Moon. $4 per pint was a bit higher than small-town expectations too, but obviously better than Chicago prices.
Very nice people here. On my next trip to Starved Rock, I will definitely return to Skoog's for the post-hiking thirst quench. -

Home cooked meal? Place to bring the family or park your motorcycle? Always a friendly environment. No bs the best wings ever! They are huge and full of flavor. Fresh garlic or Kamakazi are my absolute favorite!
Try 6 wings and a basket of fries and you are set! Burgers- huge and full of flavor. On occasion you may be lucky enough to get their pot roast or meatloaf; if offered surely jump on that opportunity!
Pros: I eat at skoogs and bring all my military guys to eat there whenever we have training in Marseilles. Food portions are huge and we always leave stuffed.
Cons: Please park in lot down the street or behind and leave the front for us bikers. Wish they served potroast more often. -

The tourists eat across the street at the pretty Canal Port restaurant but locals & folks "in the know" go to Skoogs for the best tasting food & friendly service in Utica. The Skoog Burger rocks--best burger around. Their ribs and marinara and spaghetti sauce are just lip-smacking good. And their wing nights? Packed. Also packed on Fri & Sat nights too--especially if they got live bands. Come early of you want to find a seat and not stand. Did I mention the service was fun & friendly?

I've never been a big Skoogs fan. That said, we were at a progressive dinner recently and Skoogs served us THE BEST WINGS I HAVE EVER HAD! Only thing lacking was blue cheese dip. The wings were crispy and came with three sauces. I only tried the hot sauce which was AWESOME! It was hot but not too hot. Lots of celery too.
Next time I'm in Utica, I'm going to give Skoogs another chance and until then, I'm Jonesing for those wings! -

Went here after being turned away from Nodding Onion. Thank you rude lady!
It is a bar pub atmosphere and the staff is friendly. The beer selection was great and the food was excellent. I had one of the specials Grilled pork chop sandwich with pineapple mango sauce for 7.99. Yum - wanted to lick my fingers. It was a generous portion and I brought half home.
The owner came out to check on us and see if we enjoyed our meal. I am happy I went and would highly recommend it to anyone passing through or visiting Utica. -

Joliet, IL
Gotta admit, I was a little skeptical of eating at a place called, "Skoog's". Not anymore! My wife and I rode our motorcycles in from Joliet and walked in HUNGRY. Got a basket of six wings to split and a half-pound Skoog burger. The burger was very good and the wings definitely lived up to the hype....they were *excellent*!! As far as atmosphere goes, "family-friendly pub" covers it. Service was very good....a very nice place to have a leisurely lunch after a good ride! Will definitely come back again!

That diet coke really tasted funny, like maybe it was regular coke... But they refilled it really quickly for me and i drank it anyways. We were recommended by the August Hill people and sadly we went hungry annnnnd, appetizers. Apparently Wednesdays they don't serve sandwiches at all. They did have a REALLY tasty appetizer combo that came out hot and quickly. There were onion rings, fried breaded mushrooms and cauliflower and broccoli cheddar. Wow we finished that real quick. I still would love to try the Italian beef, I heard great things.
Listed in: Looks that are Decieving!

would like to give 3.5 stars to skoog's.
good basic bar food - sandwiches, burgers, nachos, etc. one of the other diners told us that the fried chicken was the best around and that you generally can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
i agree - our food was good, not great. service was quick and attentive.
we thought it was interesting that both skoogs and canal port have white sox stuff all over their walls. i thought most central illinois bars were either cubs or cards bars! -

Good Food, Good Prices. Fried chicken is awesome. The white breast is NOT dried when it is fried from here as well. The "Skoog" Burger is just a 1/2 pound burger. But wait, its a 1/2lbs AFTER cooking which is hard to find. Great big burger. Nice atmosphere, bar to the left as you walk in with dining to the left. 5 tv i think always playing sports. Very Friendly down home service. Good Sweet tea. I have yet to try the ribs and wings but I will comeback when I do. I say instead of Duffys you should walk down the street a bit and try these guys. Its some good stuff
