We found this place through yelp. As another said though the directions were a little screwy, but we're so glad we persisted! The food was absolutely delicious. We started with Charlie's Chowder. It was so thick, the bowl was heaped! Very thick and yummy. We shared the mahi and shrimp. Both were perfectly seasoned and grilled. The cole slaw was a pleasant surprise, not your ordinary cole slaw. It was late at night and too dark to really see anything of the water or boats. Wish we could have. I doubt we'll have a better fish camp meal anywhere else.

Despite Yelp location back-dooring me so I couldn't check-in I'm at Skipper's Fish Camp in the thriving metropolis of Darken, GA.
Went here on way home from long work trip based on "Yelp" faith and you didn't disapoint. The food and service awesome.
Marcy &Cody my friendly server duo were very attentive and genuinely interested in this wary traveler.
I ordered captains platter was a plethora of fried heaven. Includes oysters, shrimp, flounder, scallops, calamari, hush puppies and two sides. Was amazing, my favorite of the bunch scallops (huge) and oysters.
In summary wayward travelers make the voyage during your weekly commutes. Im coming back with the fam soon...Thx Yelpers -

Stopped here for lunch on our way back to FL. Was kinda doubting my husband's decision...he saw it on a billboard, it was a bit of a drive from the highway....ok, sometimes men are right...go figure???:)
Hubby loves fried oysters...declared these were the best he ever had. I love fresh brewed iced tea...perfect and glass was kept refilled (yes, there were many rest area stops before we reached FL but so what??? :) ). I ordered a broiled Mahi sandwich...good is not the word....fresh, perfectly cooked...even a stellar roll...oh, and even the tartar sauce was special! Came with fries but could upgrade to a salad for a small price so I did (felt guilty about all the decadent road food on our trip). Boy did that pay off!!! Field greens and a killer balsamic vinegar dressing....way good! Located on a river so beautiful view and some....quirky decorations (have lived in FL for over a decade but still can't get used to this southern notion that alligators are a fun wall hanging, LOL).
So here's the capper...we both used the restrooms on the way out and came out of the doors asking each other if we had used the special soap...it was Dead Sea Salt scrub (mainly mineral salt mixed with oils)....fell in love with it!!! Am in the process of gathering the ingredients to make it myself. Again, hubby done good on this day. :) -

I sat at the bar. Try the Brunswick stew... it's top notch. Super nice authentic setting at the small marina.

OK, now, keep in mind, this is a FISH CAMP. It is NOT a Fine DIning establishment. Mind, you, it is the NICEST fish camp I have ever been to! (ok, so I have only been to two....what of it? lol)
AND, I believe ANY place that is GOOD, very good at what they do, deserves 5 stars, at least on YELP! (yaay for yelp!)
This place was Very CLEAN (and im a bit OCD.... so if I say it's clean--trust me ITS CLEAN!!!),
The staff was very friendly, and this place is highly regarded by the locals--- I asked a couple of women we saw on the roadway, just before we pulled into the place....I'm not shy, so I yelled out the window......and was assured I could get a great burger, and hubby could have great seafood.
So, our decision was made (and let me tell you, this part of the state, just off of Interstate 95, is LOADED with crappy chain restaurants (which I LOATHE)....
I had caught site of a sign that advertised the Fish camp, and having worked near one in FL, I knew they usually had a good atmosphere, (right on the water, where people can drive their boats up to it!) usually u can sit out on the deck and look for alligators, etc.......
This particular fish camp had a GREAT deck system, loads of room, altho we ate indoors (i think too early in their season yet, or maybe due to the time of week we were there, so no tables were set up outside, altho we did take a lil' walk after dinner).
OK, so here's the lowdown:
5 Stars, for the best darn HANDMADE burger I have had in a VERY long time! (I had been craving a REAL, awkwardly shaped (read: hand formed) meaty burger. I got mine with the crispiest bacon (which i requested, and it was done under the broiler, which just gave an amazing flavor!) and the meat was done exactly as I requested.....and still moist even tho I requested Med/Well! The cheese was yummy. I love me some condiments, and i was pleased when the waiter brought me the best (and not dumped into some dirty ramekin like at SOME places....I got my own jar of Hellmans mayo, Heinz Ketchup, and Heinz Mustard. Yumm! Top shelf! LOL
AND 5 stars for the awesome service we received from George! He was friendly, funny, and downright enjoyable. I wish we would have some reason to be in GA again someday, just to eat here again, and hang with George! Request him if u go there, he was super attentive, and personable, without being overly so, or being fake. He's the real deal (and I had to tell him all about yelp! and since he is a 'myspacer' like I am, i told him yelp is much more addictive, AND better because u can actually use the info! lol
and another 5 stars for the VERY FRESH fried shrimp appetizer that the hubby had,. which i'm told, tasted like the shrimp jumped out of the water, and literally THREW themselves onto his PLATE! Hubby also had a cup of Seafood chowder, which had a bit of a kick! The seafood was all very fresh, as were the corn and potatoes in it!
So, overall, you can see we enjoyed this! and let me tell you, we love to eat at a variety of places...very pricey to dirt cheap (that morning our room service breakfast was 89 bucks! LOL) This was less than 32 bucks....including a 30+% tip! Worth every penny! -

The world would be a better place if more restaurants like Skipper's existed. Nowadays when it is so easy, convenient, and "cost effective" to source seafood from one of those national distributors, Skipper's holds to the true local fish shack tradition of plying local waters for the freshest shrimp, oysters, flounder, and other delicacies. As someone who grew up on the North Florida coast, this makes all the difference in the world to me. You can really taste the difference - the pure succulence of the meat, how it melts in your mouth. Once you cross over into this world of fresh, local, casual seafood, you can't cross back.
What I like about Skipper's, aside from the best-tasting whole fried fish I've had in about 15 years, and I've had more than my share - are the following aspects that make it stand out even amongst the greatest of casual seafood places:
1) The side dishes. You can pair casual fried seafood with collard greens, sweet potato souffle, other southern-style veggies of the day, to actually create a balanced meal. While it is common to serve fries with fried fish, I like how I can have a plate of slightly bitter and tender collards to offset the sweetness of the shrimp. A bit of sweet, a bit of sour, and bit of bitter. Who says you can't create a culinary experience from fried seafood?
2) The atmosphere. The place is sparkling clean. The setting on the marsh and river with an outside wooden patio area, lily pools, spreading out to the dock where the fishing boats are, is purely idyllic. Inside, the lighting is low. The napkins are thick, fine dining weight. The bathroom is posh and immaculate. This is a place where if I were a local, I would feel comfortable taking someone on a date and having a glass of white wine with my seafood. But I felt equally comfortable in my beach t-shirt. It's really for everyone.
3) The pricing - please don't complain about having to pay $19 for a whole fried just-caught local fried fish or $15 for a massive plate of local shrimp. If you think the prices are higher than what you've otherwise seen for fried seafood, then believe me, you weren't getting a local product from those other places. This is about as reasonable a pricing for local seafood I've seen. Costs have gone up over the years to maintain such local sourcing. You don't have the economies of scale you used to when it comes to a local fishing industry. But Skipper's deserves our pocketbook vote for sticking to its philosophy to carry a QUALITY product even if it means paying a few bucks more. With the farm-to-table movement so strong in inland parts, I hope to see a trend toward local estuary-to-table take hold at some point.
One last thing - don't mind the fact that they have a billboard on I-95. Despite that popular exposure, this is as local as it gets. About as far from a tourist trap as they come. -

Serendipitously stopped by this restaurant on a pleasurable drive from Jax, Fl. The setting is very nice on the water, near many shrimp boats, etc. The Good: Had scallops wrapped in prosciutto which was very good, and prepared well, their Cole saw is one of the best I ever had, and really enjoyed their cheese grits too. Not so good; Wine selection is terrible, and for some reason the soft shell crab I ordered was very salty, and I could not eat most of it; plus their hush puppies were over fried, and hard. Service was good except that the appetizer was served at the same time as the entree. yet friendly waitstaff, and restroom very clean.

We were there lunch on Saturday and enjoyed it very much. The crab cake sandwich was full of crab with great flavor, but the best was the fried flounder, fried perfectly, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Obviously very fresh and was just the best we have had in years.

On the banks of the Historic Darien Riverfront, Skippers' Fish Camp offers not only an unequalled dining experience but also a glimpse into the pasts of Darien and the historic Colonial Coast of Southeast Georgia. Walking into Skippers you are greeted by a stuff 11 foot alligator. Elegant views of the Altamaha bio-reserve; public boat slips; a public boat ramp; a floating dock just for canoe and kayak enthusiasts; and spectacular sunsets, as well as the best in casual seafood dining has made Skippers' Fish Camp the ultimate in riverside dining. The local shrimp fleet docks right at their backdoor and provides Skippers with an abundant supply of fresh locally caught Sweet Georgia Shrimp. Skippers take pride in using only the freshest ingredients when bringing our servings to the table. My personal favorites are their fried shrimp and the shrimp salad.
