Announced 6 days agoThey buff. They polish. They knead. They moisturize. They glamorize.
I absolutely LOVE Skin Spirit! I found them a few years back when I was on the search for a spa that performed the Refinity Peel. It was a specific peel I had regularly gotten in NYC and couldn't find anywhere locally. While I would love to just hop on a plane to travel to my fave city, that method just wasn't conducive to my schedule or budget. ECSTATIC was I when I found Skin Spirit! They not only perform the Refinity Peel, but it was half the price than I received back in NYC. AWESOME!
My aesthetician of choice and love is Christy. She rocks! When I first started going here, I was seeing Allison, who has since left. :( Allison recommended Christy, and she was right on! Christy didn't skip a beat when analyzing my skin and making sure she gave just the right amount of ooomph with the peel. I left, yet once again, glowing -- and without a touch of make-up no less. That should speak volumes for all you ladies that knows what ones face can look like after a chemical peel. I am hooked.
I attended the anti-aging seminar 1 1/2 weeks ago -- a thoroughly informative and fun event. There were actually *live* sessions of a few of the star treatments Skin Spirit provides: Botox, Active FX facial, Thermage, Endermologie, Dermaplaning and Restylane. Let me go on the record saying that I have not yet tried any Botox or other filler, but after attending this evening of festivities, I can't say that I won't be dabbling in them anytime soon. I got a chance to watch each and every session, ask the aesthetician questions and see the end results. This is an experience that anyone interested in skin care should try to attend.
I'm now booked for my next Refinity and also RSVP'd for their upcoming Holiday Boutique. How much more can a gal ask for: shopping, cocktails, appetizers and skin beautifying -- all in one night!
Flawless Skin Bliss!

Very high end service. Comprehensive menu of services with professional and friendly staff. Not cheap but worth the price.
I had a wonderful experience at Skin Spirit. I had my first IPL treatment last month. I was very nervous because I had seen the treatment on one of those make over shows and it looked painful. The results were always good so I thought I'd bite-the-bullet and give it a try. I made an appointment with Michelle G at Skin Spirit. Michelle was very friendly and knowledgeable. She was very thorough too. She spent a little extra time going over the trickier areas. My skin looks much better than I had expected. I will definitely go back for more.
Lynn is fabulous!! I just returned from my latest round of Botox and Perlane...the results are great! What I like most about Lynn is that she takes her time. I have never felt like I was getting a 'hard sell'. I have never felt like she was 'rushed'. She takes the time to study my face and together we decide what we will do that day. I have always left her office feeling that I was receiving a treatment that gave me the most 'bang for my buck' which I truly appreciate.

This is without a doubt my FAVORITE spa in the entire Bay Area. Until a short time ago I was living in PA and getting there was something that I did all the time. Now i live in the east bay so it is a special treat. I have seen Lynn & Michelle for my face and a couple of weeks ago I had a fantastic massage from Joe. Everyone who works there is courteous and friendly, The facility is elegant and immaculate. You can count on everyone there to get you what you need, not more than you need. Do NOT miss this place. PS They are opening a Walnut Creek facility in the fall!!
Loved my experience here! Staff was wonderful! Very helpful and friendly. Ease setting up appointment. Clean and beautiful environment! Went in to see Joe for a deep tissue massage and boy does his hands work wonders! Loved it! Was in heaven for 80 minutes! Would definitely refer friends and family to this spa!! Gina at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful!! Can't wait to go back for my next appointment!!

First let me say, take my review with a grain of salt. I really wanted to give SkinSpirit 4 or 5 stars but I didn't achieve the results that i had hoped for. I went in for Botox and saw Lynn Bartels who I loved. She's a real kick and a chatterbox like me. In fact, I think the whole staff there is great. They're very friendly (not a bunch of snobs like at a lot of salons) and you don't have to wait long for your appointment. So they normally start with giving you 24 units of Botox on your first visit @ $13 each = $312. Lynn warned me up-front that she thought I would need more Botox than the standard amount because the muscles above my eyebrows were so strong. But she decided to start with the 24 units and then we could re-evaluate. The next weekend I was back for more as I saw no change in the movement on my forehead. Lynn was not there that Saturday and I had to see someone else (can't remember her name). She predicted I was going to need 60 units in order for my forehead to stop moving !!! That would've been $780! I couldn't afford to do that every 3 or 4 months. She tried another 6 units for another $156. There was some reduction in movement but still not what I was hoping for. I went back 2 weeks later and saw Lynn again and she decided to try another area and that time I paid $168. So in total I paid $634 and my forehead was still moving and I still had the crease down the center. Granted, it was much better than before I started but like I said, not the results I expected. Maybe I just have a difficult forehead :-(. But based on the facility and the staff, I would definitely consider going back to try one of their other treatments.
It really does matter to us that every client does have a great experience, from their first phone call to the minute they leave.
Despite our best efforts though, we won't always be perfect. That is why we read and respond to every review posted about us and are hopeful we will be allowed the opportunity to correct any errors.
We support this forum greatly- even when a reviewer doesn't want to respond to our "olive branch". We aren't going to be the right place for everyone and we respect that.
However, I can not let blatant misrepresentation go unnoticed.
Our practitioners work incredibly hard to maintain the highest of standards in safety, customer service, clinical expertise and technical skill so they deserve this response. These are the truths about our practice- and we hope you will come to know them as well:
. Each practitioner goes through extensive training. We have some of the best RNs in the west coast and we are in the top 1%ile of injectors for Allergan (Botox) and Medecis (fillers: Restylane, Perlane) in the country.
. Our medical director and founder is Dr. Dean Vistnes, a board certified, Stanford trained plastic surgeon who is very involved in SkinSpirit. He has a very busy surgery practice but has an office on site, is available to patients, meets regularly with his medical team and participates in all new treatment and product decisions.
. Sometimes we turn clients away from a treatment, even if it's a lot of money. If it isn't appropriate for the patient, we won't do it. Sometimes that backfires and people aren't happy with us. We're okay with that though.
. Our practitioners do not have $$ quotas to meet. They are driven by the desire to give honest, great service and results in order to form long-term relationships with clients. If a staff member has had repeat offenses with being "pushy", chances are they don't work for us anymore (and chances are they aren't happy with us either).
. We are proud to be equal opportunity employers and providers; just ask our multi-racial, multi-cultural staff.
. We know your money and time are valuable (because our client is us) so we go to great lengths to respect both.
We have many more truths but I'd rather your spend time meeting us rather than just reading about us. Thank you for taking the time to read this and we hope we get the chance to take great care of you soon. Stacey Yates, Director and Kira Moore, Asst. Director. Feel free to call us @650-324-9600

I love this place! I've been to MANY estheticans in the past and this place by far has most qualified ones. I think I've seen all of them. My favorite one there would be Cheryl. She does a very good job with my troubled skin. She recommened me trying the Jane Marini line which has helped my skin a lot. I love all there make up products as well. Very relaxing atmosphere and everyone is very nice there.

I saw Annie for laser hair removal and Cheryl for a facial. Both of them have awesome personalities. Cheryl went over the area with the laser twice. However I do not think she "zapped" all of the hair follicles because when I got home I saw that there was still several live hairs on the area that were not "zapped". Cheryl has great massage technique but the only thing she should work on improving is "extracting" more pores because there were still quite a few clogged pores& blackheads left after I got back I noticed she just extracted a few but not all. It's still a nice place to go but I just wish they would be a bit more thorough.

Michele Gonzales is now a nurse a SkinSpirit. Wow! I had heard about Michele's reputation as the premier nurse midwife on the peninsula if you are a high-risk mother. She works at several hospitals. I had no need for such services because I have already had my children. But I did have some cancer surgery on my face that left me distorted with one cheek flat and drooping corners to my mouth. I pretty much figured that I would just live with the distortion; after all--love me, love my face.
Then I heard about some of my friends seeing Michele at SkinSpirit and I got interested in seeing if she could help me. She is gentle, firm, talented, professional, lovely, and my distortions are gone! So she is an artist as well.
Yes, Michele is still a nurse midwife of highest caliber and she is also helping women to be their more beautiful selves. I highly recommend Michele Gonzales at SkinSpirit! and my friends do too!
SKin Spirit is a great place to advanace your skin care up a notch. Michelle has a very warm touch and makes the toe curling IPL /Photo Facial a breeze.
I've also been to Lyn who is the best injector of injectables and Botox, Restylene etc. Does it hurt? Not the Botox! Nada! She is knowledgelable and gives my face a very natural look. JH
I see Fawn at Skin Spirit and I have to say, it's more that a step above your regular spa. My skin has never been so clean. It's very professional and she seems to know exactly what I need. I don't have problem skin but I really enjoy having my skin properly cleaned. In so many places you find that your skin is dirtier from all the touching and product. That is definitely NOT the case with Fawn. She introduced two wonderful things that have made a great difference without pushing product. It is expensive and I would consider it a luxury, but I do think it makes a difference, and that is hard to find. The receptionists seem a little too formal but once past that, it's great!
I love this place! If you are looking for a great esthetician in the bay area, you have to see Fawn! She is amazing.. she is know her stuff and is honest. She doesn't try to sell you stuff that will not work on your face!
Go see Fawn!
Lynn Bartels is extremely professional, caring, honest, an artist overall she's as good if not better than it gets and she has a great personality to boot! If you're on a budget, ask about pricing before your service so you understand what you're spending up front.

I had Restylene injections here and also some laser hair removal. The laser hair removal didn't work on me so they threw in two more treatments- that still didn't work. I don't mean I didn't have 100% hair removal, I mean that I it pretty much all grew back. Cara did these treatments and also did my Restylene. The Restylene was very lumpy and I had to go back for further painful manipulation to break up the lumps. Cara was very patient and kind and I experienced nothing but polite treatment from the staff, but in terms of results, I paid a lot of money- more than many other comparible places, I wasn't thrilled with the results of either treatment. I was told I was a good candidate for laser hair removal creiteria-wise, so I am not sure the issue was on my end. I know places like American Laser will allow you to continue to return until you achieve the desired results. Skin Spirit should consider something similar.

Christy is quite good and well trained; I try and see her every six weeks. I am finding that the "old school" estheticians with the amazing knowledge, skills and techniques are retiring. Christy seems to be the best that I've found, recently.
I've had treatments with other SkinSpirit estheticians, but, never booked additional appointments with them.

While I've never actually had a treatment here, I could not be more impressed by the way I was treated for a skin consultation.
After driving by this place several times, I booked a free consultation after work (they're open til 8!!). Michelle was fabulous- totally understood my financial situation and explained a few different options that would help my skin in no time.
After purchasing a product that didn't react well with my skin, I was hesistant to call the next day and complain. But sure enough, they were more than happy to take the product back and let me exchange it for something different.
Can't wait to try their facials.

I went to Skin Spirit based on the recommendation of a friend that I really trust - she's 52 but looks like she is in her early 30s. I will try anything she says works! :) I'm a sucker that way. Anyway... I yelped Skin Spirit only to find mixed reviews (some great, some bad).
Once I got to the salon, which is set up like a clinic... I understood.
First, it's not cheap. But they know what they are doing. It reminded me of people who go non-board certified plastic surgeons because they can get a better price on lipo....Yeah... uhm.. not the place I want to scrimp!
I had an appointment with Fawn based on my friend's recommendation. I filled out the paperwork and wrote "I have a lot of products at home I don't use...and not really into the hard sell thing."
Fawn was great. We had a consultation first and then because of her obvious knowledge, I had a facial. I told her what I was using and she told me I really didn't need to use all of the stuff I was using. :)
That's awesome... and not what I was expecting based on some of the other yelp reviewers...
The facial was great and she's my new go to person for that. While I was there, I decided to see if I could cut down on my errands and see if they do eyebrows... they do! Yeah!
I also decided to book an appointment with one of the nurses, Lynn to learn more about other services that they have.
So... I loved Lynn... she's a Botox magician is all I can say. She does speaking for the Botox company...and as someone in the industry... I know you have to know what you are doing in order to speak for the companies... she's top notch and I wouldn't dream of going to anyone else. Lynn rocks.... and she makes me laugh every time I go in. Again.. no hard sell... and actually talked me out of things I don't need.
My two cents...Clip coupons, make your lattes at home for a couple of weeks...stop eating out so much.... whatever... but don't be cheap when it comes to plastic surgery, facials, Botox and the like... you get what you pay for.
Update: 3/18... Lynn Bartels continues to ROCK! I have a confession.... I was one of those nasty girls that always pits out their shirts... yellow stains...nice... I could never wear white shirts. My girl, Lynn took care of that. She squirted a little Botox..here... a bit there... and seriously... I no longer sweat under my armpits. It's wonderful. I can wear ANYTHING! I've never had so much freedom with my fashion choices. It's changed my life. I just got back from Las Vegas... it was so damn hot in the conference room.... I was the only person that wasn't drenched from their armpits. Bless you, Lynn Bartels!!!! You are my hero.
The only downside is I am now addicted to it so I need to budget for it so that I can have it done every 8 months... so I eat more tuna from a can... so what? I DON'T SWEAT and I can WEAR WHITE! It's worth it!!!! :)

I absolutely adore SkinSpirit, and in particular Cheryl who I've gone to a few times now. I have tried a plethora of spas in the bay area and in all honesty, SkinSpirit is the very best one in terms of quality of work for the price, professionalism and convenience.
Because everyone working there has some sort of medical or esthetician type background, I felt comfortable since some other places hire random teenagers and people who clearly don't know what they're doing and leave me scarred and looking worse.
I have received the oxygen facial twice now and my skin has never looked better. The ambiance is relaxing and simple, no frills really, just great skin care.
Other reviewers claim that they felt sales pressure, but I did not have this experience. Cheryl gave me some samples of Skinceuticals products to use and the next time I came back, I let her know I wasn't going to buy anything because I was seriously low on cash and she was perfectly ok with it. Gotta admit, it's kind of pricey but I'd rather pay a bit for quality than skimp and end up with a mysterious rash or no results at all.
Definitely two thumbs up!! :)

I've been coming here for a few years now and love it. Joe gives a great deep tissue massage - and remembers feedback from previous treatments. Lynn, an RN, is very professional, caring and goes above and beyond. I've seen Christie and Cheryl for facials. Both are very informative and they are well-trained estheticians. They don't just slap some mask on your face and try to sell you products. They really look at your skin and recommend the best treatments and products for your skin type.
The only product they pushed was sun screen - but they really didn't care if I purchased it there or elsewhere...just use it. Pretty sound advise. There are a lot of spas in the area, some with a bit more ambiance. But Skin Spirit has the best staff!

I get laser hair removal done here with Michelle, and she's wonderful. I feel very comfortable with her and she does a great job. Currently they have a summer package going on where if you get a laser hair removal package (5 sessions) you get 30% off, and if you add a second area you get 40% off the second area. I've had a total of six sessions so far on my underarms, and I love the results! It's so worth it to me. There's practically no more hair. I've only had four sessions on my legs, and I can tell I have a few more sessions to go. If you need more than 5 sessions, it's half off after that.
It's a nice medical spa. Everyone is very professional, and I've always been able to find parking in the lot. The laser is a bit pricey, but my girlfriend highly recommended Michelle and I can see why. She's great. Michelle was not pushy whatsoever at my first consultation, and she is super nice. Since I was a bit hesitant about the price, she was totaly cool about it, and even recommended that I sign up for their newsletter so I could find out when they have the 30% off special package. I waited for the deal, and I couldn't be more satisfied!

The decor of this day spa/clinic/retail boutique is beautifully subdued.
They always have candles burning which perfumes the air with a warm spice aroma which relaxes the guests.
However, in my most recent trip in to purchase one of my favorite moisturizers, Epicurean Discovery After Bath in Kukui Nut/Coconut, I inquired about facial treatments they offered. I asked the receptionist if she had ever had anything done and she replied with a blunt, "no."
A word to the wise:
If the receptionist can't even recommend a service where she works that is really saying something about where she works.

I have been going to Skin Spirit for over four years, and I love, love, Fawn who is an esthetician there. I've tried to go to places closer to me, but I always go back to Fawn because she is head and shoulders above the rest. I've been getting facials religiously for over 10 years, and she's the one that's done the most for keeping my combination skin healthy and clean. She does a thorough extraction without being harsh, and she does it in the least painful way (compared to the other estheticians I have been to). She's not only really good at analyzing and taking care of my skin, but if I'm in a rush, she can do it quickly with the same great results. She also gives divine neck and shoulder massages, so it's a treat when I go for a facial. Fawn is not pushy at all about product but can easily recommend one if I ask her for it. I've been happy with the products she's recommended. She's also just such a nice, sweet person that it's a pleasure to spend an hour with her.
As the director of SkinSpirit, in a continued effort to always offer the best customer service, I check online reviews regularly.
We regularly check our prices against comparable competitors so we can give our clients the best prices for our valuable services. And while we do feel our products and services are exceptional, we have zero tolerance for "pushing" anything.
Our goal is to offer a pressure-free environment for skincare education and services. Despite our best efforts though, there will be times we fall short of perfect. Since I am ever hopeful that we will be judged on how we handle errors, and not the errors themselves, I do ask anyone who has had a less than exceptional experience contact me personally via phone: 650-324-9600 or email: stacey@skinspirit.com.
We are always open to feedback on everything. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to take great care of you. ~ Stacey Yates

I went to SkinSpirit for an estimate on a chemical peel/photo facial package. While I know they would have done a great job, their price for having this done on my face and chest was close to $6,000. These days, there are so many excellent spas that offer these services I decided to check around. I got an estimate for the same series of treatments at Pure Med Spa (San Jose), and their price was just $2,000 They also threw in my hands and forearms for no additional charge. Guess who closed that sale.
I also didn't like the fact that the SkinSpirit nurse I talked to told me that she would not work with me unless I bought four or five of their incredibly expensive skin-care products. I know that those are big money-makers for them, but I already use excellent products that are much more reasonably priced.
The nurses at both SkinSpirit and Pure all have 15-plus years experience in hospitals and doctors' offices, and they also get all of the latest and greatest trainings on the new spa technologies.
I think SkinSpirit is a beautiful facility with skilled workers, but they need to re-think some of their pricing. They have a lot of competition.

I have been going to Skinspirit Clinic and Spa at least once every month for over three years, and I have never been disappointed. This spa is a small business run by amazing people who care about each and every client's experience. Their facials, massages, and body treatments are all amazing, VERY effective, relaxing and indulgent. The staff at Skinspirit also don't pressure you to buy products, they generously hand out samples if you want to try something new before comitting to a purchase. Skinspirit offers small-business charm, tons of personal attention and a calming zen atmosphere that I look forward to each month.

I received a gift certificate from one of my closest friends for a Nourishing Facial and was talked into upping it to a Vitamin C Facial plus an eyebrow wax. The service was great and the overall experience relaxing and rejuvenating. So I went for the full facial and microdermabrasion. I have to say the microderm was not that impressive in terms of how it felt, which was like a tiny vacuum on my face.
**update. There must be different kinds of microderm. I went back and got a different kind, and voila, totally different. Definitely felt the difference but was a bit much for my sensitive skin.
ask about what kind you're getting.
Facial was great. Esthetician (sp?) was great. Nice. Did her job of mentioning various products, but was not overly forceful that I commit to buying them.
My skin felt like a baby's bumbum after she did all these different things during the facial and of course, extractions. So gross, but so necessary.
I would, and will go again, so fab. Expensive. But fab. A note: book appt's with an Est. not an RN, it saves you $50 on treatments like facials.
the only reason I hold back one star is because of the icy young receptionists I've encountered. It's odd, because it's only over the phone, and never in person. Sorry guys, as an ex service industry employee, that weighs heavy with me.

"As a current guest/client at Skin Spirit I am not only happy with the quality of service I've received but I'm thrilled to know that I'm getting the best treatments available. The administrative team is always inviting and the genuine customer service is comforting. I learned all of the employees are not only certified but have been thoroughly trained by the physician (board of certified plastic surgeon, graduated top of his class at Stanford) so their experience and knowledge is the best available in this area.
Growing up with cystic acne, I can't tell you how it feels to look at my face and see it clear and smooth. With a combination of great products, regular facials and IPL my skin looks unbelievable. I never realized something so small could make such a huge difference. The service providers are genuinely interested in how my skin reacts to services and always allow me to feel comfortable when I ask all my meticulous questions. Although I moved far from the location, I'm willing to drive to receive the best service available.
Thankfully they're open till 8pm so I know I may still get an appointment even after work!!"

I find it impetrative to respond to the dreadful and terribly (untrue) review that was written by an individual on this page. I'm in no way trying to say that this person's unpleasant experience wasn't justified but by no way under any circumstance is any employee racist or judgmental of anyone who walks into skin spirit. That should be pretty evident because when you walk into skin spirit you will clearly see their multi cultured staff. As a very dedicated client and friend of almost all of the women who work at this establishment I find it insulting for someone to start throwing around accusations about people they don't even know. Although yelp has the ability to be used as a helpful resource it could also damage quality individual reputations. So readers please beware of what you read for it's wise to consider the source.

This is an outstanding medical spa in downtown Palo Alto. Owned by Dr. Dean Vistnes and his former wife, Cara Fonteyne, RN and staffed by a great group of experienced nurses and aestheticians, Skin Spirit is the perfect marriage of clinical and sybaritic skincare and massage. The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful and very private. I highly recommend an "Accusage" treatment (acupuncture coupled with massage) by Shayna. Cara and another nurse practioners perform medical treatments such as IPL laser photofacials, Botox, Restylane, etc as well as conventional facials.

I have invested THOUSANDS of dollars on my face compared only to the THOUSANDS of dollars in tattoos and I love the staff at Skin Spirit....specifically Fawn and Lyn. My facials are religion to me and I am always specific in booking at least an hour and a half with Fawn. During this time Fawn cleans every single pore on my face. Okay maybe I exaggerate a tiny bit however I am certain she misses only two or three. She cleans, picks, masks, soothes and then tops it all off with a neck and shoulder massage that usually knocks me out when combined with the warm seat and fluffy blanket. I have had every single treatment that Fawn offers and she knows my skin so well that I trust her to simply do what is necessary. I have NEVER been disappointed. For my Botox and facial fillers no one else touches my face but Lyn Bartels. Lyn is a magician with the needle and is a straight shooter during consultations. No hard sell....if you don't need it, she wont do it. A little fill here a little lift there, subtlety a must, no problemo.
I have had Lymphatic massages with Jay (once again..knocked me out). Skin Spirit is quiet, clean and efficient. I feel that they know me and my peccadilloes and treat me as a valued client.

If you care about getting the highest quality skin treatment, you must see Lyn Bartel, RN, NP at Skin Spirit. She is phenomenal...and as an RN, if you don't already know, if an RN recommends any medical practitioner, follow the recommendation.
Lyn is not only skilled technically, she is an artist and impeccably honest and realistic...you can trust her. She is the trainer of other RNs and MDs who do medical skin care treatments, so you know you are in good hands. She has helped me receive consistent comments about how incredible my skin looks. Forget the hype from other ads, and go to Lyn at Skin Spirit if you want the best to help you look your best!
I called SkinSpirit to schedule a consulation for laser hair removal last week.
When I reached there, they made me sit in their beautiful waiting area, and gave me 4 pages to fill. I filled them up and turned them to the girl at the desk.
Nobody offered me any H20 to drink but all the 3 "fair skinned" people who came after me were offered H20.
After about 15 min, the girl at the desk came up to me and told me that the RN was busy with some other patient and if I was ok waiting for a few minutes. I said it was fine with me.
I sat there reading magazines for about 45 min. The girl showed up again after 45 min and said "I am sorry we will not be able to see you today". I argued why...they said u were 9 minutes late....!!!
I was like why cudnt u tell this to me in the first place...and y did u keep me waiting for over an hour if you were not going to see me? How much time does a laser hair removal consulation take(I have been to 3 before and I know it doesnt take more than 15-20 min).
The girl just apologised and said we can't make other customers wait for 10 min!
I have been to a lot of doctors, dentists, opthamologists, laser hair removal consulations before but nowhere have I been treated like this!!!
This place looks at the color of your skin and the brand of your purse before treating you!! Make sure u carry a Coach or a Gucci before u go for a treatment here...and dont go here if you are not "fair skinned" or "hip"!!
I am going to go with this other skin clinic in Palo Alto which costs 300$ more than this one..but I am not going to put up with this kind of racist shit!!!!
When I scheduled the appointment I was not told to come early or anything.

went here awhile ago but i remember not having a really great experience. i got a facial and the whole time the girl was rushing on me. these people definitely like to sell you their products which i think is a total rip off.
if your thinking to go to a nicely decorated, relaxing spa - don't go here. it looks more like a doctors clinic.
