Review from Laura D.
Glad to have found this spa in the Village Faire shopping plaza in downtown Carlsbad. I just wandered in 'cause it looked cute, but my oh my, there is so much more inside. Very Asian-inspired.
This is a very cushy spa, with all the acoutrements. There is a lovely waiting area, with a flowing glass fountain and very comfy armchairs and a long couch, with a bamboo wall. There is soothing music and they have a tea and water counter.
I was kept waiting for almost 20 minutes, which almost made me late, so I'm taking away one star. But the service (once I got it) was stellar. Prior to the reflexology they brought out a warm foot soak that smelled heavenly, with coconut and flower petals.
The treatment rooms are named after plants and flowers, have low lighting and relaxing music playing.
I had 25 minutes of reflexology with Sofia, who is also one of the masseuses. And then I had an AMMAAAAAzing facial with Sabrina. I had read about her on this site but she was better than I could have imagined. She has a wonderful touch and explains everything she is doing. The creams were very neutral, not strong smelling, and the facial included a short foot and hand massage.
Sofia gave a wonderful reflexology treatment, and it was nice to actually lie down on a table for it. Sometimes they just sit you in a chair and you feel like you're falling over when you get relaxed. Sofia seems very practiced, and I felt very relaxed afterwards. The pressure was medium to firm and felt very therapeutic.
In general, I love this place!! Granted, it has LA prices, but it's worth it. I signed off on the $285 price ticket (but that includes a $95 eye cream), and dreamily oozed on out to my car in the lot.
Skinsational, you are indeed sensational!

OK, one day later, went back for a massage. :) Yes, I'm livin' the good life. At the front desk they thanked me for my review and said there must have been some confusion when I made my reservation because they weren't late. Very well could be so, 'cause the computers were down for awhile.
So today's massage was with Sofia, they were spot on time, and it was very good. I told Sofia I wanted deep tissue and boy, did she ever!! I was very tight in my lower back and after an hour with Sofia I felt so much better. This is really such a relaxing place to be. Everyone is also very friendly, which is the way it is in Carlsbad. Come on down!Listed in: My Carlsbad 'Hood…

My husband bought me a spa package for my birthday and a couple hours before my appointment, I received a call that they had to cancel due to plumbing issues. I have been here before and the service and treatments were fantastic. However, it was quite difficult to arrange my busy schedule for a spa day and to have it canceled with little notice and no offer of a discount or anything to reschedule was disappointing. My husband called back a couple weeks later to see if they would offer even a 10% discount for the inconvenience and the manager said the best she could do was chocolate and champagne since it was my birthday.
If I had can celled my appointment with less than 24 hours notice, I would have been charged 50% of my services, yet they can't even give me 10% off to reschedule? If they had extended a simple courtesy, they would have had repeat business and made back that 10% discount, plus more. As it is, I have told many of my friends know of my experience with Skinsational and we visit other local day spas. (This is Southern CA and we have tons of options!)
It's very unfortunate that they don't appreciate customers more.Comment from Joyce C. of Skinsational Skin and Body Spa 2/7/2012

I used to go to this spa several times a year, spending thousands of dollars on their massages and facials. However, when I tried to redeem a Living Social deal, the owner refused to honor it and argued with me over the phone. She said that the fact that I had been a loyal customer didn't matter and the logical decision for her was to "agree to disagree."
I've also heard from the masseuses and technicians that the owner is a terrible boss, very demanding and difficult to work with. They have since left and are now working at spas that treat their employees (and customers) better.
Don't waste your money at this type of business!
On the bright side, the Living Social customer service was fantastic and they refunded me the money with no problem. They're also putting this terrible experience in their database and hopefully will not work with Skinsational again.Comment from Joyce C. of Skinsational Skin and Body Spa 9/21/2011

This spa is so awesome. It looks smaller from the outside but is actually very spacious and welcoming. With a large locker room area and very relaxing "waiting" area you are able to enjoy some delicious tea and safely store all of your belongings. I got a pedicure and a manicure and both were fantastic. They have an extensive color selection and all the newest lines from OPI. I will definitely be back here soon! :)

I am not a typical user of spas, but do enjoy massages. My wife and I went to Skinsational while on vacation. She had a facial and massage and loved it.
The ambiance was warm, private, and comfortable. They have a women's locker room, a nice relaxing waiting area in which you read, relax, etc, while waiting in your robe in between treatments. The sound of water cascading is quite relaxing.
My wife said that her treatments were excellent with great professionals. I had a sauna and a 90 minute massage. I wasn't as overwhelmingly pleased.
First, they said that they had a sauna that I could sit in for 30 minutes or so that I could time my wife's treatments with my own. They had a small two person sauna (big enough for one really) which they allowed me to use for only 15 minutes and then I was required to go to the massage.
In the massage, although the therapist eventually did a decent therapeutic job, it was agonizingly painful in the beginning. The therapist comes in while I am lying down. She then proceeded to piercingly touch a pressure point on my thigh which caused me to go into terrible pain. I felt like I either was a pregnant woman about to give birth with interspersed deep breathing exercises like you do right before delivery or I felt like i was a teenager and my older brother was trying to torture me by finding a spot that he could practice his pseudo vulcan death grip. Either way, the therapist saw me in pain, I commented about it, and she simply said, "Oh you aren't used to deep tissue." No, my friend, I am not used to chinese water torture. Not deep tissue.
Don't get me wrong. The massage ended up being very therapeutic. But that is not the way to start an experience.
Finally, after my massage, I wanted to do a little more sauna, but they had shut it down.
The reality is that they don't have amenities for men. It is very nice, quaint, and relaxing for women with all amenities. But for men, you feel like the youngest step child that has been brought into a family of 6 girls with hand me downs. For that reason, 3 stars. Otherwise, if this was my wife reviewing, it would have been 4.5 stars. -

My two daughters had their nails done here and told me about the shellac process for my nails. I was elated and had my nails done regularly (usually every two to three weeks). We also attended their monthly happy hour sessions, which we enjoyed. Mainly we love the waiting soothing environment in the waiting area. The manicurists endured many inconveniences during the remodeling of the manicure/pedicure area, but one, in particular, persevered until it was complete. I recently returned and was told that my favorite manicurist was no longer with them. Several employees, which were very competent, have left their organization. The new manicurist advised that I should not have shellac done because her and the other manicurist believe the integrity of the nail is most important. She proceeded to apply various moisturizers, etc. to my nails. It has now been 3 weeks and my fifth finger nails have a red area under the nail, which was not present before and even when you have scheduled a shellac and they give you a manicure, it is the same price. I am so disappointed in what I thought was a fantastic place to enjoy some quiet time and still have some great conversations. I admired the owner's marketing techniques, but found her quite aloof at times.

I went here for something specific, a Shellac manicure. It is one of the only places in north county that does this type of manicure AND had a nice price list on their website AND nice service on the phone!
Because I went in for (just) a manicure, I was not expecting to have to fill out any paperwork (like before you get a massage), but whatever. They sent me to the waiting room and I filled out the paperwork and got some fruit infused water while I waited.
Sarah did my manicure and she was awesome! She explained how it worked, told me all my color choices and we chatted the entire time. The nail room is small, but it is nice because it's one person at a time so it doesn't feel like a factory (like it can at other nail places).
The manicure turned out amazing (and I'm hard to please). Yes, this manicure is EXPENSIVE at $35, but this is comparable to any other salon/spa offering this Shellac service. And let me tell you, it's worth it! My manicure lasted 3 full WEEKS! Not days, weeks! The only reason I had to take it off was because my nails were growing out! and it started to look funny...boooo!
If you need a good manicure, head here and ask for Shellac : ) -

*HIGH FIVE TO SKINSATIONAL SKIN SPA*
Hey, Thats all five fingers and an arm lift!
Really enjoy this spa, i have been given gift cards to other spots in San Diego, one in gas lamp, one in Mira mesa and they dont come close
to the service, the set up and immaculate facility that skintimate offers.
The website contains a price list of each service, seasonal specials,
ample/free parking, I always end up going back to them.
Have made the mistake of going else where to try "cheaper" spas and in this case: you do get what you pay for.
This spa also carries a great line called EPICUREN which i used when i lived in Orange county, great for my skin and reasonably priced. -

Used a LivingSocial deal at the spa and am very happy with my massage and facial. Kayla gave a very therapeutic deep tissue massage. She really worked on my knots in my upper shoulder as I've asked. She has very strong hands and I had to tell her to go lighter.
Sabrina did my facial and it was so relaxing. Probably one of the most pampering facial I've ever received. Loved the warming mitts and lotion on the hand and the massages. Did the Glycolic peel and it was not too uncomfortable. My skin did feel tighter afterward.
The waiting area is very nice and serene. Like the hot tea and the sound of the waterfall. However, the locker room area is very small and I had to wait for 2 ladies to finish changing before I could get to my locker.
Everyone I've came into contact with was SO friendly and had soft spoken voices which adds to the spa atmosphere. Will definitely recommend the spa to others. -

This is my favorite spa in Carlsbad. It's really nice and the people there are always friendly and helpful. I've been twice for the 50 min Swedish messages, once for a facial, and once for the tropical mani-pedi. After you check in at the front desk, they take you to the tranquil waiting area where there are soft couches, water fountains, dim lighting, and spa water (water with cucumber and orange slices). It's a very relaxing atmosphere and I always feel completely rejuvenated when I leave.

This is a top-notch spa. I went there this evening for a 25 minute tension reliever massage, and boy, did it relieve my tension! I came out feeling like a noodle with a big smile on my face.
This spa is absolutely beautiful and zen-like in its atmosphere.
It's a bit expensive, but you definitely get what you are paying for when you go there. I won't go there for all my massages because I'm a bit broke but this is my new go-to place to treat myself! Awesome. -

Absolutely outstanding experience! I went in for a Swedish Massage and Facial. I had two gals (one for each service) and I can honestly say the customer service was five-star by both girls! The experience was outstanding, the services were outstanding and the ambiance was peaceful and relaxing. No pressure...a wonderful place to be and I cannot wait to revisit soon. xo, Maggie

I love massages and facials and Skinsational was very convenient since it's close to my home.
They have a nice sitting area but it's a coed area. It's supposed to be their sanctuary but it's also between the entrance to the spa and treatment rooms. So, you see everyone that comes and goes.
The employees are so sweet, they just have great personalities. My massages have been good, nothing memorable.
My problem is that I had a facial and the esthetician recommended a peel, pumkin peel I think. I was a bit hesitant but thought what the heck. Not too long after the application, my face started burning. I told her that it hurt and I even started tearing. She told me that that was normal and that the burning should go away. It didn't. I walked out of there and my face was red with areas that were burned. I was so angry! And I have never been there since.
Now, I'm not saying that this place absolutely sucks. I would just recommend that if you have a facial and it becomes uncomfortable at any time, you insist that they remove/neutralize immediately. -

I received a facial from Elissa today.
It was AMAZING. She did a stellar job. After my facial, I felt relaxed, clean, and ... just luxurious. I made an appointment for my sister to come on Thursday for an oxygen treatment right before her wedding for Saturday. I will be scheduling another appointment for a massage and probably a monthly facial after!
I love this place. Already thinking about making this place my #1 go-to for birthday presents and couple's massage for yearly anniversaries! -

This is an upscale modern spa that evokes the pure essence of tranquility. The omnipresent aromatherapy oils soothe the senses even before your treatment.
I particularly like this place as they make their own skincare line featuring high concentrations of botanticals, essential oils and natural plant-or mineral-based ingredients. They also don't do any animal testing on their products.
I like the fact that they do specials in conjunction with the Yoga Center which is located in the same mall.
Go for one of their Day Spa Adventures such as the South Sea Getaway -- a 2.5 hour adventure in bliss. They also offer a Tropical Romantic Ritual for two in your own special couples room. This includes: Fiji Island Wrap, Jamu Balinese Massage-50, Sacred Stone Pedicure. Boy start saving up for your lady as Valentine's day is right around the corner. -

It was one of those days and I absolutely had to have a massage that minute. So I called Skinsational -- based on my fellow Yelpers' reviews -- and made an appointment for a massage within 45 minutes. Yeah!
I don't know how the people who work there don't fall asleep. They're playing soothing music in the lobby and they have a nice soothing fountain. Any way... Walked back to the locker room, put on my robe and was totally relaxed within 15 minutes.
I asked Tina, my masseuse, for a Swedish/Sports combo. She did a fantastic job! Relaxing without being too soft. I don't like soft massages. What's the point? She got in there, which I really needed. An hour later, I spent 10 minutes in the infrared sauna. I don't know what it did but it was okay. Ten more minutes away from the real world. :-) And it didn't cost me anything extra. They have a steam sprayer in the shower, which was a great way to end the afternoon.
Sigh. I'm ready to go back.
The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because I've been spoiled by Burke Williams in Sherman Oaks. But Skinsational is really a great find and I'll definitely be back. -

I've been getting pedicures here off and on for years (since before they were in the beautiful new digs) and they have always given the BEST pedicures. Once I realized that I end up paying the same $40 even at the "cheap" spots (they just nickle and dime you till you end up paying that much) I decided F-it! I want the extras, don't ask me, just do it! So now I'm a regular.
I've also had the Vitamin C facial and it was amazing. I didn't even leave looking like a swarm of bees attacked me- I went straight out into the public! Best facial I've ever had. I also have waxing done here both brows and unmentionable spots, although after reading about the price hikes, I will probably cut back.
The atmosphere at Skinsational is tranquil and relaxing, the staff is nice and helpful, and there is a great mix of products to choose from (I like the Yonka myself) AND if you are on the mailing list you get to go to fun little gatherings and get free samples and cocktails every now and then. Awesome! -

FANTASTIC! My 50 minute massage was better than the Bellagio in Vegas. My boyfriend and I were absolutely impressed and they were able to book us on the spot.
The women's locker room was the ultimate convenience and their products smell delicious (although pricey). Great customer service! They sent us a coupon about four days later via email and we can't wait to return! -

one word: waawaaweeewahhhhh!
Don't worry about killing me... because i am already in Heaven!
This was my very first facial here in America and what a way to introduce me! My Husband decided I needed a little treat and bought me one of the spa packages here. He blindfolded me, drove me there, took me right up to the door and BAM! welcome to blisssssssss!
and let me tell you - From the very start i was impressed.
From the smell of the place, the friendliness of the staff (who were giggling at my surprised face after the blindfold came off!) the ambiance - even the way they treated my husband with a cool drink and a comfy chair in the sanctuary room (which is divine!) so that he could read while waiting for me. - any one that treats him like that gets extra brownie points from me!
This place covers every detail - from the women's locker room, the robes, the music, the lighting, the temperature... and i was so knocked out in pleasure that i can't even tell you the name of my esthetician. (sorry honey! you did a great job though!)
I ended up getting the skinsational facial (with some extra's that i discussed with my esthetician) and a massage and left feeling like a million trillion bazillion bucks! I loved the way she went through everything she was doing and how it benefited my skin... but she didn't talk to a point that would have killed the mood. It was just perfect. This facial also included a hand, arm, decolletage and scalp massage... this was - SUPERCALAFRAGALISTICEXSPI.... ALLI....you get the drift! My esthetician massaged my hands with this lovely smelling oil, wrapped them in bags and put these hot gloves on them so my hands were the softest i have ever felt them! (Hubby loved them too!)
The clincher for me was that my skin looked the BEST it ever has after about a week. I was very pleased to see it continued this way up until the 4 week mark. I got a lot of compliments and one of my girlfriends even asked if i had some work done! (hey hey, come on now.. i am only 27! plenty of time for that!)
They are pricier than some of the other places i have checked out but you get what you pay for!
You are silly to not give this place a try! =) -

This spa is my sanctuary. I used to live in Carlsbad right by the ocean off Tamarack and I can't wait to move back someday!
The whole experience is relaxing because the spa is not crowded. You are greeted by friendly receptionists and the spa smells of tranquility and peace.
I love their massages but the best service I've gotten is the Fiji Sugar Scrub for $98.
My body was scrubbed of all the dead, dull skin.
After the scrub they let me lay in a horizontal shower Vichy shower. There were jets hitting me everywhere. The water was very gentle but had great pressure. It was warm and felt amazing. She came in and checked on me after about 10 minutes and I asked if I could stay in it longer. :)
Afterward, I was towel-dried and it was time for the body butter application. She covered me from head to toe with the most moisturizing Pineapple cream (I purchased the cream online) and gave me a quick and relaxing massage.
It was a great experience. I've gotten this service at other spas, even spas in Hawaii and it did not compare to Skinsational.
I walked out feeling like a million bucks. Couldn't stop touching my soft, smooth skin :) -

It's sad to say that having a bad massage is what made me realize that I needed to write a review for an incredible massage I had here. (I really need to submit reviews already.)
I had a deep massage here during Spa Week, the last go-round, with Logan and it was truly fantastic! One of the best massages I've ever had and I've had a lot of really good massages. Completely relaxing and felt like butter after. As many have mentioned, the facilities are very nice and relaxing and what I really love is that they have an infrared sauna that they let you use as well. I will be back and I can't recommend Logan enough! -

I came to Skinsational after reading the good reviews on yelp. I've been here twice for facials now, and can say that I've been pleased both times.
The people here are very nice, and it really is a very relaxing and beautiful spa. There are folded robes inside lockers in the women's locker room, along with a steam shower. You change, get all comfy in your robe, and then go to the sanctuary room to wait for your esthetician. The sanctuary room is gorgeous -- soft music, dim lighting, magazines, tea (can't quite figure out what type of tea) and water with lemon and cucumber slices.
The estheticians have always been very nice, sweet and attentive. They listen to you very carefully and always take the time to answer any questions.
I'm not sure if this is true for all facials, but for some facials, a neck/arms/legs/back/chest massage is included. Very considerate and super relaxing.
Definitely visit if you get a chance! -

For Mother's day I recieved a paid trip with my mom and aunt to the spa from my brother. He lives out of state so he had me choose a spa around where I live. Looking on trusty 'ol yelp I came across Skinsational. Reading the reviews I decided to give it a try. I scheduled myself for a Fiji body scrub.
Was I glad I did?? YES!! I loved the way they greeted us right away as we all walked in the place. They took us straight back to the women's locker room which was very nice and CLEAN. We changed into robes and waited in the private waiting area for not even 5 minutes before my name was called by Logan. She took me back to the room and explained everything in great detail. She was sooo nice and made me feel very comfortable about getting naked!! Haha. Not that I was in front of her at any point. (They have towels to cover you and disposable panties) Logan's hands were very gentle but strong. She scrubbed my skin but not like she was trying to make me bleed, it was just right. Then the most amazing part is the tub thing they pull over you that washes off the scrub. It was AMAZING! So relaxing, I wanted to stay in it forever. After that Logan gave me an amazing massage. She is really good. Left that room on cloud nine! My mom and aunt both had amazing experiences too. I put four stars because I have only been there once but I will be back again. Very impressed. -

After a grueling cross country flight, my body was needless to say so knotted and in pain I couldn't sit or sleep.... so I went onto to yelp looking for spas in Carlsbad, CA and let me say Yelp reviewers are right!!! While on the pricey side (mention Yelp and you can get a 20% discount for first timers), I had hands down the best deep tissue massage of my life. I've tried spas around the country and even globally and no one has ever been able to work out some of the kinks they did here. The massage was amazing and while the place is not the sleekest one I've seen, its clean, the staff is friendly and when you can sleep at night, trust me nothing compares. I signed up for yelp just so I could review this place. I've gotten pedicures, a massage, and a bath treatment done here. It is very tranquil and they are very professional. I wanted to rave about the pedicures though. I've gotten pedicures done at other day spa's as well as those regular nail places. It is now week 4 since I've gotten it done at Skinsational, and it seriously looks like I just got it done today. I wear flip flops and closed toe shoes and not a chip. It was a very relaxing 1 hour that was money well spent.

I returned to Skinsational to see Elissa for a facial, and also got a massage with Sophia. It is 'San Diego Spa Week' which means that tons of participating spas are offering services for crazy discounts. Jump on it people, it ends this weekend! Elissa was just a good the second time. Sophia was super personable and seemed to be very knowledgeable. She had lots of suggestions for dealing with all the knots in my back, caused by lots of running and years of hairdressing in high heels. I had a Swedish massage since that is what was being offered for the bargain price of $50. She told me that her specialty is deep tissue, so I will probably book that with her next time.

I cannot believe the reviews by other customers, I had read the reviews before my experience at Skinsational and I cannot disagree more! Rave reviews and voted #1 Day Spa had my expectations high and I was hugely disappointed. My mom and I went two weeks ago and each got a one hour massage and a supposed 45 minute pedicure. I received a gift certificate for Christmas and I told my mom how great this place was supposed to be so she purchased services and we thought we would make a girls day of it. The check-in process was good, the locker rooms were average, the waiting lounge was not very comfortable as it was stocked with room temperature water. But we didn't mind because we were there for our services. My massage took place in a room with a bath tub, it seemed like it was a makeshift massage room and it looked like it was normally used for baths, scrubs, etc. Oh well, being a first time client I assumed maybe all the rooms were like that. Then comes the massage, the girl hardly used any pressure which I barely noticed because I was too busy freezing and listening to the constant whir of the A.C. how distracting! I have never looked so forward to the end of a massage to hurry and put my robe on, no relaxation here. My mom and I met in the waiting area to be called for our pedicures. She asked how mine was and I told her how unfortunate was. She said she had a poor experience too, and hadn't planned on telling me because she didn't want to ruin my gift. She specifically said no deep tissue, and what did she get? Deep tissue! Geez la weez so we thought that our pedicures would at least bring the experience up a little bit. Boy were we wrong! The pedicure station was crammed into a little corner with barely any selection of polish, it was OPI and didn't appear to be any of the latest colors. The two women who did our pedicure did not speak to us, the only conversation between them was a minor disagreement about the music that one of them selected it...awkward! They were supposed to last 45 min and let me tell you, we were polished and changed out of our robes within 45 minutes. We debated whether or not to complain, but when the girl checking us out asked how it was we both answered "ok" and she prompted us to explain. We told her we will not recommend this to anybody, as we have never had such a poor experience at any other day spa. Please save your money and go else where, I am so confused as to how people have had such great experiences. Carlsbad has so many more spas with a much better atmosphere, and with employees that actually seem like they want to be there.

This spa is definitely esthetically pleasing, there is no question about that. The staff is quite friendly. However, the owner is less than pleasant to deal with and not very nice to her staff at all!! The massages and facials are okay but nothing remarkable for the price. I felt that during my facial the esthetician was definitely required to sell, sell, sell!! I like to relax during my facial, with little talking. I certainly don't take kindly to hearing about products the whole time.

Super relaxing place! One of the best massage I've ever gotten! I've tried both swedish and mommy massage and they were both amazing. This place is very clean.
Although, one time when I had a facial last Jan 2010, the esthetician also did my lip wax and I guess the wax was a little too hot. It burned me a little bit (it healed in a couple of days though). Otherwise, my experience in this place is excellent and will still come back over and over again for their massages. -

I love this place! I have gotten a couple of things done here- but the best was the couples treatment! Massages, champagne, chocolates and a really great shower... I really recommend it!
