I feel very fortunate to have found Skin Sense: it is great knowing there is a place I can trust to help me take care of my skin. Nancee is phenomenal. both my daughter and I swear by her.
After having tried several other places here is why I am a loyal Skin Sense Fan:
They don't try to push product on you to make money. As a matter of fact, Nancee won't let me buy anything until I try it first. She gives us samples to take home first, because you never know if you are going to like the smell or how it feels. That is a first.
The place just feels good - friendly, relaxing, clean and cozy. Most of the people there have worked there for like 20 years and love it, that mutual respect permeates the place.
There is no attitude, a gracious staff that makes everyone feel comfortable.
They know their stuff. My daughter has problem skin. She lives in Brooklyn. she had to have her facials here because she can'f find anyone as good as Nancee there. I am in my mid fifties and I think SkinSense is one of the reasons I get such compliments on my skin.
They take later appointments so you can go after work if you are afraid of what you are going to look like after your facial.
I think their prices are very fair and affordable for the kind of care you get. I can't imagine going anywhere else.
Park over at the Beverly Connection if there is no street parking, it is pretty easy. During the day the street parking is fine, but if you go late afternoon into evening the Beverly Connection might be the best place
Nancee is amazing. My daughter and i were talking after our last visit how much we love just to go and talk to her. She knows her stuff and cares tremendously. I like having good looking skin and Skin Sense is the place I trust to help me with that. -

Swoon! My face looks amazing. I wish you could touch it through the screen! I am a total pampered girl! Give me my pedi's, mani's. massages, facials, shopping, great meals and I'm good! I recently realized that I had not had a facial since moving to LA! Nearly 2 years, Eek! I jumped on yelp, who's like my BFF that happens to know everything about every place, and got to work. I found skin sense and quickly called to squeeze myself in for an appt.
After working 13 hours at work, I showered, ate breakfast in the area and headed to my 10:30 appt. As soon as I walked in I felt relaxed! The lovely, soft spoken, receptionist gave me a huge glass of water and I was taken back for my facial.
The worst part was the extraction. My uber sensitive skin has been very troublesome since I've been here, with the change in humidity. She gave me great tips and suggestions and I left feeling amazing! I will definitely be a regular customer! -

Skin Sense is the type of place that once you find it, you're almost mad that you ever wasted your time going anywhere else - great service, good prices, & very welcoming environment!
Marion is amazing at facials. She takes her time to really get to know you, the products you use, and your diet & exercise routine. She will offer up good & realistic advice on what you should do to get your skin on track without being preachy, and because she's so great, you will listen.
Most importantly, she's not a product pusher! I hate to leave a treatment room, only to find a million products lined up on the counter that I "must have." Marion does not do that. In fact, she may give you samples... only if she feels that a product is right for you. She only recommends what works for an individual, not the masses to make a quick buck.
I've been going to Skin Sense for months now, and have turned a friend on to it as well.
Parking tip: Park at the Beverly Connection across the street to save time on looking for street parking and change for meters.

I absolutely love this place. To be honest, I thought all "facial" places were the same thing. NO WAY. It is not. I always use Vicky, and she is so amazing. She makes me feel so relaxed and comfortable. After you come out of a facial from Skin Sense, your skin is like super smooth and shiny. It's crazy. I've been to other facial places, so I definitely can tell the difference. Their prices are a bit more than other places I think, but it's definitely worth it.
I'm gonna take 1 star away for parking.... Parking's pretty bad around this area. It's right across Beverly Center. I guess you can park at Beverly Center, but I seriously don't want to walk in there when my face is red from extraction. lol.Comment from Marion S. of Skin Sense by Marion Simms 2/9/2011

Marion is a genius. When I started going to her many many years ago, I had deep, red, sporadic cystic acne. And dry patches. Marion doesn't just treat the skin with a facial, she suggests life changes. She got me off of cola and drinking more water, and my skin improved dramatically. She also makes product recommendations (mainly Guinot, with some PCA), but works with items you already have, if possible, and is very generous with the samples to make sure you actually like it. She monitors your skin closely and tweaks your facials to suit your needs. Now I can even leave the house without makeup (most of the time), it's a miracle. I even get compliments on my skin from female coworkers! It's all Marion and the lessons she instills....
Skin Sense doesn't have a full spa experience (jacuzzi, sauna, etc.) like Burke Williams, but the treatments are just as luxurious, if not more. What they lack in bells and whistles, they make up for in skill. I pretty consistently pass out during the massage portion of the facial, and the hot stone massages are awesome. So awesome that there is no fancy schmancy Burke Williams treatment that can even come close to relaxing me, I'm spoiled. Plus the treatments are way less expensive, which means I can have more of them!
Everyone I have recommended to Marion has become a devoted client. I've also brought in people to see Nancee, and they love her too.
Park at the Beverly Connection across the street, if you want to not screw around with street parking.Listed in: When I Go Home

All of the ladies here from Marion, Vicki, Nancee, etc. are fantastic. Extremely sweet, skilled, professional, attentive, and kind. I've had everything from my facials to bikini waxing done here and I've been a loyal customer for two years now. The Guinot product line they carry is terrific and I feel so comfortable, happy, and welcomed whenever I enter the Skin Sense spa.
Parking can be tough, but if you find a metered spot they will put change in for you to ensure you don't get a ticket during your massage/facial/etc! 5-star service in every way, I'd highly recommend Skin Sense to anyone looking for a high-quality spa service with excellent results and warm, caring, friendly and profesional staff.Listed in: I like to spa.

Review from Erica L.
I went in for a mani/pedi with Marla. Marla is a force to be reckoned with! A big woman with a big personality to match, Marla is a consummate professional.
I'm the type of girl who thinks she doesn't need an occasional mani/pedi. I guess that feeling came about because of my earlier experiences with being poked and prodded at other nail chop shops. Having Marla spend 1.5 hours with me -- not all of it pleasant, as she cleaned out my big toe jam to help prevent ingrown nails -- and educate me on how I can do better, changed my thinking. More importantly, it's realizing that I, as a woman, deserve to look and feel good about my hands and feet. I grew up with a mother who told me my feet were ugly, and I work extensively with my hands -- both of which should be on my list of priorities, but never were...until now.
Seeing is believing, but being educated on what habits help or harm me really hit home. It's nice to be proud of nice-looking, well-kept hands and feet. Now when I do forward bends in yoga, I look at my perfectly polished toes, and whenever I'm out or with clients, I know that my hands look great. Beauty is in the details. Good habits are what keep it there.
Marla is straight-talking and I am grateful she helped me look presentable and at my very best. Plus she's a total gas, so have a go ahead, treat yourself, and have a good time!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I've been going to Marion at Skin Sense for over ten years, ever since I first moved to L.A. and discovered the not-so-wondrous effects of smog upon the skin (no, we do NOT have smog in New York, and stinky subways don't make you break out). I have unruly, ornery, high-maintenance skin that is more sensitive than your art-school boyfriend, so I pick my facials very carefully. One experience with Marion and I was hooked.
Marion has been in the skin biz for more years than her flawless English rose complexion could possibly attest to, and her no-nonsense demeanour and refusal to fall victim to every beauty trend is really refreshing. When a new "thing" comes along, say, the oxygen facial, Marion researches it until she's confident that it will benefit her clientele before she adds it to the service menu.
Skin Sense is a no-frills storefront on Third near the Beverly Center, but it's still cozy inside with cushioned benches and cups of tea (leading up to the holidays they actually do a 'proper afternoon tea" every Saturday). There's no lounge to hang out in, drinking cucumber water and listening to the waterfall- it's not that kind of day spa. Skin Sense is a place to properly take care of your beauty and wellness needs in an efficient, effective, and extremely pleasant way.
In addition to facials (Nancee is also very good if you cannot get Marion), Skin Sense has a few types of massage, nails, and waxing (nb: they do NOT do Brazilian here).
Skin Sense uses a number of products including the Guinot line; they never upsell you; and if a recommended product doesn't work they will take it back!Listed in: Girls' Guide #2 Grooming and…

I agree with Ron H. completely on at least two things. Ann Coulter, and JoAnn at Skin Sense.
I have a nasty trigger point in my back that must be kneaded out regularly or I get really mean from the intense pain. I've been looking for a place close to home, and tried Skin Sense (and JoAnn) Saturday morning.
JoAnn's Deep Thai was just that DEEP and THAI. She worked hard to minimize the knot in my back before moving on to the traditional stretching and movement of Thai massage. I left feeling so relaxed.... Oops, I'm starting to drift off again just thinking about it now.
Highly recommended. -

Best eyebrow wax. It was either Vicky or Nancy. I have heard equally great things about both.
I couldn't find street parking and they were so cordial even though most salons would have made me re-book for tardiness!
I will go back. -

I've been going to Marion at Skin Sense for about 6 months or more now. Marion decides what kind of facial to give based on your current skin condition. I was late yesterday because I parked somewhere unfamiliar and was walking on my 4 inch heels. (I had to go back to my car to change shoes -_-) still she greeted me with a smile D: sorry Marion! She is gentle, fun to talk to, and does a great job. I tried the toner and moisturizer she recommended and both work great on my skin :D
Highly recommend Marion for anyone who wants a great facial. -

I have been going to Marion for 3 or 4 years now to get facials. She is thorough, professional and amazing !
Her staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the wellness center is comfortable and unpretentious.
In addition to facials I've had several massages, wraps and body scrubs and I've enjoyed all of them immensely :) -

I have had very sensitive skin my whole life and have had all sorts of facials trying to help make it look better. But each time I've had a facial in the past; my skin not only comes out red, but breaks out.
With Marion, my skin came out looking fantastic, younger and not red or broken out. Not only do take care of your skin when you go to Marion, you feel pampered by the care she takes and the comfort of the cozy salon. -

I have been going to Vicki for a couple years and she is fantastic. I do my monthly waxing's with her and also have had several facials with her. I have found everyone to be friendly and warm. The prices are fine/average, nothing to rave or complain about.....The masseuse that is on staff is AWESOME....I have never had trouble finding parking. There is plenty of street parking if you dont mind a nice walk! :) There is also a pay lot across the street but it is only a dollar or two.

I *love* this place! I have been to a hell of a lot of waxing salons in my time and Skin Sense is definitely one of the best! The ladies there are SO nice and friendly (Vicki and Nancy are my usuals). They are skilled at what they do and the prices are so very reasonable. May I never have to use another waxing salon again!

I've going here for waxing and facials for a few months now and I've been very happy with Nancee. She got my skin looking radient for my wedding. I think the parking probably isn't that great (street only) but I can walk so it's not an issue for me. Everyone on the staff is very friendly and they use the most up to date products.

Skin Sense is my own private lady version of Cheers. I've been coming here since I moved to LA and still go there despite the schlep from my new place in Los Feliz. Although all the ladies are superb, Vickie is the only person I've seen for waxing. She' s wonderful! She uses a very delicate wax for us with sensitive lady parts and she's super patient. Marla takes care of my toes and fingers. She was the first person to tell me the toe pain I had was due to ingrown toe nails. I won't lie to you, the first time she removed them it was not pleasant, but we stay on a strict three week regime (same with my waxing) and we keep those ingrowns in check! And park in the Beverly Connection lot. It will only cost you a dollar and is less stressful than the street parking situation.

Review from Dee P.
Los Angeles, CA
I've pretty much learned my lesson when it comes to cheating on hairstylists and waxers. I used to have a roving eye, and sad to admit, I've been tempted and duped by price and hype; but since visiting Vicki for over a year now, I've been a convert. I have never been disappointed once. I've been to Stark and Flirt and while I've had decent results there, I just never leave as happy and satisfied as when I go to Vicki. She's also a wonderful conversationalist; really engaging and remembers previous conversations.
The staff here are also really sweet and professional; it seems as if they are always bending over backwards to accomodate your requests, well, that is if its reasonable. All in all, I've tried some of the reputable "bests" and really the only best I can stand behind is Vicki at Skinsense (plus she's cheaper than those other places!). -
Review from ruby r.
I have gotten a lot of facials from some of the best places - Blue Mercury, Burke Williams, Glen Ivy, Ojai Valley Inn & Spa - but none can compare to the one I got at Skin Sense! Marion, the owner, did my facial. She did an analysis of my skin and really personalized my facial according to my needs. She is wonderful to chat with and really knows her stuff. My skin feels amazing after that facial I am definitely going back. I'm recommending her to everyone I know! (I found it on Yelp)

Marion Simms has been in the business a long time and it shows. She and her staff are professionals and her cozy spa is a welcome retreat on that busy street.
I also like her products and her special deals from time to time.

I have been a Skin Sense client for almost 10 years and go for facials and the occasional massage. Marion Simms and her team are brilliant at what they do and take their time to properly do your facial. If you are looking for a great place to go for a facial and skin care treatment where you are treated like a member of the family, then Skin Sense is the place!

My wife recently experienced a facial at Skin Sense, and she raved about it for days... she said that her skin felt wonderful, that she was pampered from head to toe, that the price she paid was super reasonable, and that she's very much looking forward to going back again soon! We give Marion's spa two thumbs up!

Nancee all the way! Have been treating my skin to Nancee's facials for close to 20 years now. No other facialist has ever measured up to the level of care and expertize that Nancee bestows on my smog clogged pores. Skin Sense is clean, charming, and professional.
