I really enjoy my leisure time spent at Skamania. Lots of views of the great outdoors and lots of paintings from native artists, indoor.

Its extremely serene and people are friendly and polite.  Go there and relax in the bar section, there's hardly anyone there so you get a great big fireplace all to yourself along with a great view of the Gorge.

I have a bit of biased review----I got married at Skamania Lodge.

That being said, my review is more on the wedding experience rather then just a night stay at the Lodge.

We got married in 2007, so while this is a bit dated, I have helped with many weddings there since then and find the service to continue to be outstanding.

I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for  And if you want a high-end, first class experience, its not going to be free.  So while Skamania is not the budget friendly wedding, it is definitely a once in a life time, stress free, I'll never forget kind of wedding.

The site itself is BEAUTIFUL.  But that is saying more for the gorge then anything else.   Skamania is tastefully done in what I would consider NW elegant.  The spa was recently re-done, and while pricy, it very nice.  I have had the coffee scrub and wrap along with massages---I would go back weekly if I could!

But aside from the nice site, great staff, high end experience--the food was FANTASTIC.   The chef was great with working with special request---I think a vegi-kosher wedding falls into that category.

Everything was great.

Since the wedding we have stayed in the lodge several times, along with eat in the bar and restaurants.   All I can say is I'm looking forward to going back.

If you have the dough, you wont go wrong with Skamania.

This is a horrible company. My fiancée and I were in the process of booking our wedding here and they basically tossed us aside for a bigger piece of business. I guess that's OK (I get it since it makes better economic sense), but they totally lied to us about it, were never up front about the issue and did nothing to even try and recover the business. I question their management and their ethics. We were in negotiations for a few weeks on the contract when we got a call from one of the event managers saying another party was interested in the same time and day as our spot. They asked if we would be willing to change our date, but assured us that we had first right of refusal. We said we wanted to keep our date, but two days later they informed us that the other party had booked their wedding 30 minutes before our spot and that we would have to move.

Bottom line: We had an agreement, they had reserved our day and time, they gave it away for a wedding party that was bigger than ours, they lied about all of it. Don't trust this company! If you do engage in business with them (wedding, conference, etc) make sure you have an attorney on retainer.

This is a beautiful lodge. I've enjoyed some of the best Sunday brunches there. Incredible food. I've never stayed the night there because of price. At one time you could rent horses and go trail riding from the parking lot up through the hills to the top of the bluff. That was a lot of fun. The wedding ceremony spot is way down in a feild so it's private from the lodge and guests but it's quite a walk and guests never really know where they should go.
The view is the best, lots of outdoor chairs and usually an outdoor bbq served in the summertime. Great place for a big event or just a couples get away.

Ah yeah!!! We drove by this spot on the way to the trail for the Lower creek falls hike (which was awesome). On the way back, we were looking for a bite to eat to celebrate my lover's birthday. Little did we know we tripped into one of the swankiest spots on either side of the river!!!

The design of the  lodge was VERY pacific northwest.. with an in-residence naturalist, and one of the most awe-inspiring views of the Columbia River Gorge I have yet to see.

We ate in the Cascade dining room, which was lovely, and truly made the most out of the wonderful view.

To start we ordered:
The flat bread with ricotta cheese, asparagus, and tomatoes
The crab cakes with a mango salad
The organic green salad

For a main course we ordered:
The Thai coconut curry which was served with seasonal veggies and was supposed to come with tofu.. ours didn't (we're not sure why but the food and experience together were so nice we didn't even mind).

I would recommend the crab cakes and salad highly, and judge from all of the dishes that this dining room did fish and veggies very well.

Although we did not order desert, it was my companion's birthday and our EXCELLENT server Maurice brought a plate of ice cream for him to enjoy.

All in all it was a fantastic surprise and we'll definitely be back to catch more sunsets (and maybe even stay over to see a sunrise) at this lovely resort.

NOTE:
The golf links looked awesome, there's a spa and they do weddings.. just FYI

I went for a drink one evening while in town.  Nice clean place with interesting local and other drink offerings, including Kool Aid for adults.  Only stayed for little while, but would go back.  Good crowd, service, and ambience.

This place is absolutely stunning.  Skamania Lodge is a perfect addition to the landscape.  Sitting up on a hill overlooking the Columbia River Gorge, the building seems to be part of the natural view.

When we first arrived, and walked towards the main sitting area, we were greeted by 3-story, floor to ceiling windows looking out over the gorge.  As we stood with our backs to the massive stone fireplace, we watched what appeared to be a fairly impromptu casual wedding just on the other side of the windows.  It was a brilliant setting for the lucky couple, and really made the visit that much more impressive.

We sat there for a while, sitting on a comfortable couch, enjoying the free Starbucks coffee and just relaxing.

We didn't actually stay at the lodge, as we were just there to visit and go to dinner, but I would love to return and stay there one day.

We had originally signed up to see a play at Skamania Lodge.  Unfortunately, the play did not sell enough tickets.

We decided to stay Friday night anyway.  It was fun as it always has been in the past.  The wonderful fireplace in the lobby.

I love the library on the second floor with games and books.

It is particularly cold even though its spring so we mostly stayed in.

I would love to go back for a couple of nights in a bit warmer weather.

The Friday night seafood buffet was fun and there was much variety.  I would recommend it.

I have stayed here a number of times for conferences via work.  This is the second time I have brought the entire family with me for a weekend of relaxing at the Lodge.

Skamania Lodge is situated just outside of Stevenson WA, across the highway from the columbia river.  It sits up on a small hill with a commanding view of the river and surrounding hills.

This time around my wife bought me a fantastic massage at the Water Leaf Spa which is onsite at the Lodge.  It was great if not a tad bit on the expensive side.  I figure everything has the "lodge" premium added to it, so to be expected.

The lodge has lots to do for kids as well.  There is a large indoor heated swimming pool, a small hot tub inside and a larger hot tub outside which has an amazing view of the river.

The restaurant is fantastic as well.  A bit on the pricy side but the food is very good.  It has a bit of a captive audience so come prepared to spend.

On Sunday mornings the Lodge has a fantastic Sunday Brunch.  It starts at 9 am and goes to 2:30 pm.  I recommend having reservations and making them when you arrive so you don't miss out.  Again, the brunch is not cheap but the selection is very good.  Something special  for a weekend away.

Its a bit odd to stay at a place that is housed with lots of people and yet enjoy peace, quiet and serenity at the same time. Lodges are not hotels and the latter has its place..  This is a nice place to literlly chill out. Like a trip to the ocean without the ocean, giggly loud girls, noisy guy jocks  and beach bums. No, here you have mostly golf bums. Skamania is a known go-to for the club swingers and, while I'm not a golfer myself, the chatter I heard in the bar and restaurant was that the course is very  very good although a bit rustic. Hills to climb , big ass trees to shoot around and that kind of thing. Very windy too I guess...You have to do one of those 30 degree offset shots in order to keep it on the fareway.. Some skill involved I guess..The lodge is clean, very well put together and the people working there are polite and spot on with service.  Two places to eat on site. The sit down resteraunt is pricey and has a menu that is foo-foo. If you're on a budget of sorts, you'll be ordering something with chicken should you decide to eat here..  If you have kids with you (lots of those around) skip this part of Skamania Lodge. The adjoined lounge is an eaterie  for everyone... A nice menu of chicken, fish and burgers etc.. Not a bar menu but a big step up from the chicken n' wings crap that you get at most places who serve food as an afterthought.  What about the rooms? We were on the road and did not do a reservation and were given a room that had twin beds. The place was little full up but they found a spot for us...I guess you could call it delux. It was very nice, a great view of the gorge and (most important to most people) clean. No dust bunnys and odd little spots on the bedspread...You know what I mean.. Outside at the front is a breath taking full-on view of the Colombia gorge.. Its like sitting in someones large backyard. This is where the Skamania takes on a real personality of its own. You can have 200 people out side enjoying themselves and this place is quiet and still. It really is a place to chill out, shut up and sit ... Sip a beer (or whatever) and just enjoy the quiet. Even the hyperactive little kids on meds are calm and collected..(I exaggerate, but you get the idea).. One question that always comes up about hotels, motels and lodges is the beds...After all, sooner or later you have to hit the sack..The Skamania beds ( at least the ones we slept on) were...."comfee"...No ass numbing sore hips-in-the-morning hard rock matress that make you feel like you've been in a traffic accident during the night.. The employees on staff were polite and ready to help. You always have to remind yourself that these are likely locals living in a very small town with few employement opportunties other than where they are working now. Give them a break...A few of the "guests" were a bit over the top on demands and satisfaction from the lodge folks.  Their's always a few of those that forget that we abolished slavery a while back.  Skamania is a great place to go for a weekend run out of town. The food on site is very good, Stevenson is a minute or two up the road and  also has several decent places to go chow down if thats what you want. Hoods River Oregon is a 10-15 minute drive across the river and you'll find lots of choices there as well. Lots of choices for couples or a family. Do something different and give this part of Washington a go...It beats sitting on I-5 trying to get to the coast. Footnote: If you live in the Puget sound area and wish to go to the gorge area mentioned, I recommend heading    east ward to eastern  Washington and down through tri cities and then across the river., The I-5 traffic from north Tacoma through to Olympia is flippin' nuts. It will add an hour plus to your travel. If thats the case, you would rather be moving along at 55-60 MPH on highway 2 or 90 than sitting on I-5 trying to find a rest stop to pee. Use the extra hour plus to the gorge to enjoy the trip, not put up with it..

We went to Skamania Lodge for their "Rockin' 2009" New Year's celebration.  The cost was high ($400+) for one night's stay, but included a full buffet dinner, live band, dancing, and a champagne toast at midnight.  The lodge is a beautifully constructed and decorated building; however, the grounds are pretty much a non-factor in the winter since it is dark and rainy so much here.  With many people at the lodge for the New Year's celebration and no where to go outside the building, we were left to compete unsuccessfully for the few couches and chairs assembled in the main room near the grand fireplace.  While the fire was nice on a winter's evening, it would have been nice to disperse the crowd.

The New Year's party was generally satisfactory.  The band was decent, but the whole party atmosphere felt out of place set up in the large conference room.  The food, which should have been wonderful considering Skamania's culinary reputation, was adequate but not impressive.  The buffet line had good salads and desserts, but the tepid side dishes and cold prime rib were not up to par.

Back at the room, the furnishings were sparse but clean.  The mattress was surprisingly uncomfortable, considering that other hotels at a similar price can do so much better.  The bathroom was poorly lit and had one of the most disappointing hotel showers we've used.

Finally, during checkout, the desk clerk asked how the stay was, and we responded that we were frankly disappointed with the room and the lodge.  Her reply that "everyone else had a great time, too bad it wasn't your cup of tea" really put the icing on the cake for us.  We left with a sour taste.

Perhaps Skamania Lodge is a better place to visit in the summer, when there's more to do outside the building.  For us, the New Year's package was a waste of our money.

We had our spent our wedding night at the Skamania Lodge.  The room was a river view king.  The view was excellent.  The bed was great and the chairs in the room were very nice.  Bathroom was clean and nothing special.  In the morning we had coffee down in the main lobby area which also has a great view of the river.  Next time we stay here we will get a forest view room and just have coffee with a view in the lobby.  4 stars because the river view rate is a bit steep.

I stayed here for a conference and absolutely adored it. Too bad I didn't have my husband there with me, because this place is great for a romantic getaway.

It's a bit out of the way, and I didn't see anything nearby (it was especially neat at night, looking out my window and seeing pitch blackness all around except for a few lights and the clear stars!) The grounds are beatuiful and the accomodations are nice and homey. The style is more "Native American chic" than modern, but it fits the space. The rooms are quiet and the beds are really comfortable.

The conference facilities are beautiful and modern, and the catering staff was really helpful. Food in the restuarants was good (and on the cheap side) and the wine list was excellent. Staff was great. I left my sunglass in the room and they were kind enough to mail them to me!

Yes, it feels a little contrived, but this place is the perfect resting spot after a day spent outside. Sit by the fire, cozy up with a warm drink, and kill time with good conversation. The receptionist/concierge is very friendly, and has guide books for activities covering a 10 mile radius.

My boyfriend and I spent an afternoon up here playing scrabble and drinking beers--not a bad way to go on a cloudy day in Oregon.

Plus, driving over "Bridge of the Gods" is half the fun!

Love this place. Great get away area, beautiful blue sky in the distance even if it's a bit rainy.

They have a great bar for snacks and a full service spa. There is a pool and hottub and even private hot tubs in the locker rooms. It's on a golf course, and if you're not hip on golfing you can still enjoy the nature trails around the grounds.

The only bad part was that we were next door to the "hospitality" room for a convention!
