Acres and acres of tulips with Mt. Baker in the background and picturesque barns make this month long festival a visual treat. Get a map and visit all the fields and farms, walking along the rows. There isn't a better photo opportunity anywhere. There are events the whole month of April in towns and on farms all along the Skagit Valley and this is a traditional annual trek for lots of people.
The Tulip festival in LaConner, next to Mt. Vernon, is definitely spectacular! Rows upon rows of beautiful, vibrant tulips are your scenery for the day, and you can never escape them! Up north, the colors seem brighter and the air seems fresher, making this one of the best Washington festivals there is.
i remember by dad getting lost on our way to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.... we took our granmother there right before she passed. she loved flowers... tulips especially. it was a hot and irritating day, my allergies were kickin my butt.... but the beauty of the flowers captured my full attention. hundreds of diferent varities- my parents bought so many bulbs and planted them in our front yard. it's an interesting experience. but is it FUN and EXCITING? not really. but it's a must see.
