We lived in Mukilteo , WA last year and backpacked our ass's off!
After our awesome backpack trip Sept 14, 2008, where we got to stay in a fire look out (Look Out Mountain, it was magical), and skinny dip in the Skagit River, we felt it was only right to stop at the Skagit River Brewery!
Parking was kinda tricky, but we found a spot.
Walked inside and it smelled great! We decided to sit outside , since the weather was still nice. Outdoor seating was ample. We were greeted by our smiling waitress and we promptly ordered 2 beers. I ordered the Sculler's IPA and my faithful companion ordered the Skagit River "Steelie" Brown Ale. Wow, those were great beers!
Food was great! J ordered the Skagit River Brisket Sandwich which was slow smoked beef brisket, shredded and smothered in brewery BBQ sauce, served open faced on a sesame bun. I ordered the
Big River BBQ Platter (hey, I was freakin hungry!) which consisted of your choice of pork spareribs, chicken wings, and choice of bratwurst, knackwurst, or hot link, served with beer baked beans or mashed potatoes. It was very good, not typical bar food, definitely steps above that. We will most definitely return and probably try that beer sampler! (We like stumbling!)
We made a perfectly timed diner stop here on a Sunday after a brutal hike in on Mt. Baker.
There food was original, like the wood fired herb bread loaded with shredded Parmesan, rosemary and parsley. My diner of breaded oyster was to die for. Each one plump and tender, cooked to perfection. They topped it off with mashed potatoes and even threw in a salad. I was in a taste bud massage parlor!
A Highwater porter was the drink of choice. What a full bodied beer with a nice smokey flavor, a little hoppy snap to it and perfect head. The Skuller's IPA was HOPPY, nice and bitter, oh, and strong!
Well done Guys!!!!
*****Side note, don't get too relaxed here, the Mount Vernon cop shop is right next door*****
If you are in Mount Vernon this is a must stop!
You can order a beer sampler for 7 bucks that definitely leaves you stumbling.
They have a great pulled pork sandwich.
The food is pretty pub style, but a step up. Very tasty.
The staff is great.
Prices are original.
Great prices on growlers, with a beer of your choice!
Well we went here for all you can eat ribs night on 8/04 Tuesday night. The ribs were OK, my husband was the only to order a salad and he ordered the house-made ceasar. Unfortunately we are pretty sure he got food poisioning from it because he was sick all day and night the next day from both ends. He said it tasted "off" but wasn't sure if it was just their recipe that was different. No one else of our party of 6 were sick at all but that was the only thing we didn't eat.
This is the second time we've been here recently when things were OK. Husband said he never wants to come back again and I don't blame him.
Also they used to smoke all the chicken here for the BBQ meals and now they don't which really ruins some of the uniqueness of the menu for me :(

I love this place, especially in the summer. The beer selection is fantastic, something for everyone… Read more »
Angela K. introduced me to this beautiful place! Dim lighting, live music, very peaceful.
The crab cakes were out of this world! If you have read my other reviews, I love seafood and this really hit the spot! I think I am addicted! haha
The service was bad, that ruined the whole meal.
After having an adventurous day doing the loop from Mukilteo to Deception Pass and driving back down I5 with 5 dogs and a girlfriend, we decided we definitely needed a beer and possibly a little something to eat.
We stopped by Skagit River Brewery. I hadn't been here in a while, but never had a bad experience here, so we decided it'd be good to give it a shot again.
Glad we did... Wish I would have tried the sampler of beers, but glad I was able to try 2 of their beers.
One of them was the Del Rio Lager, which is available most of the time, and the Mexican Lager, which is a newer one and a special "batch" that has been "flying" off the shelf, according to the bartender.
Both were amazingly good.
To add a bit of food to our stomachs, we had the Cajun Crab Cakes which is served with garlic mashed potatoes and their red pepper aioli sauce. MMM, MMM, good....
Service was good, the live music added to the ambiance and the place seemed to fill up quite quickly for happy hour and dinner.
I found this place completely by accident one night on my way home from Deception Pass. We were driving aimlessly around Burlington and Mt. Vernon for a decent enough sounding place to grab some food and beer. My beer radar must have been guiding me, because this place isn't in a very easy to find location for someone who doesn't know Mt. Vernon at all.
In my "surprise new brewery" enthusiasm, I ordered a pint each of the porter, scotch ale, and IPA. All three were superb. I ordered a standard bacon cheese burger with a side cup of beef stroganoff. The beef stroganoff was so fantastic, I had a full bowl for dessert. I purchased a few of their growlers while I was at it too just to keep on with my splurge.
Having this brewery in that area has been great for me as I'm up there for my outdoorsy recreation quite a bit. I've made it in to a regular stop, and always have a good experience. I still can't bring myself to give it 5 stars, but it's a solid 4.5.
Good food and great brews! If you got the wheels and the time, ya got to get on up the road and have yourself some! I recommend the Camano pizza and the Shiver Me Liver Barley Wine!
great chicken wings in an apricot salsa sauce, bratwursts and pulled bbq pork, sorta dive amosphere near train tracks that shake the joint, good staff, great scullers i.p.a., - be careful drinkin' n drivin' cuz the cop shop is next door - moderation !! growlers 2 go!
I seem to stop by everytime I am headed back home.
Great Beers, and service, decent food. Skagit Porter is a tasty choice as well as the ESB.
hands down the best brewiery in Mount Vernon!
In the 4 years I lived in Bellingham, WA, I never once made the 20 minute trek to Mt. Vernon to visit this brewery. Back from California to visit my in-laws (who live in Stanwood), we decided on trying a few of the great micro-breweries, with Skagit being our first stop.
THE BEER: I started with the sampler, then ordered 2 follow-up pints of the Scottish and their Red Card Lager (I think that's what they called it). While the beers were VERY tasty and easy to drink (and drink and drink), they were served just a bit warmer than my American mouth prefers. Also, I was not a big fan of the seasonal stout, which came out carbonation-less. Other than that, I was very pleased with the beer.
THE FOOD: Of the 4 people in my party, 3 of us ordered pizza and we all tried each others. My father-in-law had informed us earlier that "The Camano Island" pizza was the "best pizza ever." He is known for such statements, so my wife and I decided to go against the grain and ordered the BBQ Chicken pizza (wife) and The Chuckanut pizza (myself). Both of these pizzas were great... I must concede, however: The Camano Island pizza was phenomenally tasty!!!
So I visit a friend in Seattle and he takes me to his favorite quaint spot and we get to Skagit. I am not a beer guy, but the food was fantastic. To be honest it was so good I ate two meals. This place is worth making a confession. If you are ever in Mount Vernon/Seattle look them up for sure!
I love the fact that the trains roar by. The first time this happened it scared the crap out of me, but it really adds some character to this place. The ESB is pretty good, but it almost has too much going on.
The local bratwurst sandwich was pretty good. The sauerkraut was very good, not stinky at all and had a good vinegar-y flavor. The chicken sandwich was very bland.
Bottom line: go for the beer and tolerate the food. Maybe something was good that we didn't try.
Great atmosphere, and the best pizza around. Also love the jalepeno artichoke dip. The homemade rootbeer is also great. Love it!
I love the fact that the tracks are right next door - that is what is cool about the Boo-ry. I love to get the sampler - their beer is so pretty. The food here is hearty pub food and will surely fill you up.
They should keep this place open later at night and have more/regular live music to utilize the gorgeous space better. I went here once on St. Patrick's Day and danced to a great Irish band. It was so fantasic. Also their Octoberfest w/ the oopmah band is so fun too.
Great beer. Poor location and the food is not that great. Its a bit of a dive, but I never hold that against a place. In fact, I gave it an extra star for it.
If you ever wander up to the Skagit Valley this is a great place for lunch or dinner, and they allow dogs on there big deck! They will even bring a bowl of water, and if the cook is nice he'll bring a bowl of pulled pork, or beef. They have good homestyle cooking, with woodfire pizzas, burgers, local seafood and great beer made on site. Happy hour is Monday-Thursday 1/2 price apps and if it's Monday pints are only $2. Any place that I can hang out with my dog and drink beer gets high ratings from me! The only problem is the train tracks are right next door and occationally you may have to cover up the pooch's ears.
They have good beer and the best artichoke jalepano dip on Earth!!! Service is iffy, but it's a great hang out but sometimes a bit loud, especially when the train goes rumbling by!
