Came here at 9:30pm on friday night and there was a 30 min wait still, decided to wait and glad we did! Place was packed but service was prompt and friendly.
I recommend the Shepards Pie (12.95), it's fantastic!
I kinda wish the salads would come out before the main meal, but the shepards pie was too hot anyway to eat right away so that was alright.
The salad was eh, just basic "bagged" salad and a tub of salad dressing.
I enjoyed it though! Look forward to returning! -

Solid pub grub--nothing fancy or special, but good for what it is. The fish and chips are my favorite--they use cod loin and a thin but very crispy batter. The beer selection is pretty extensive and they sling decent mixed drinks. The atmosphere is what you would expect.
The only real problem with the place is the crowding. There really aren't that many places on the main drag in Blowing Rock to eat, and several of the ones that are there close for the winter, so this often ends up being one of the only open places. I've always found the service friendly and attentive, but it may occasionally be too long a wait to be worth it. I've had my best experiences here just hovering in the bar section and snagging stools when they come open. -

Had lunch here and the food and service were great! Had the fish and chips. Only suggestion - would have preferred thinner pieces of fish. Homemade chips were a nice touch. Restaurant was clean and had a pleasant ambiance. Town of Blowing Rock is a fun place to visit.

It's a shame to see local little pubs and restaurants with low quality ingredients. Yes few dishes have original recipes, but the "out of the bag" salad just killed it for me. With all local farms and fresh foods, this is little sad. Come for beer or two not sure if the food will wow you.

I spent my 22nd birthday up in blowing rock at an arts festival, and when it came to chow time, we stopped here since it was located in the heart of the old town.
Six Pence to this day still remains one of my favorite "Pub" inspired places to grab a bite, and a pint. If I were not so broke during my time in North Carolina, I could have seen myself frequenting this place quite often.
The barkeep here are extremely friendly and really easy to talk to.
The bar itself is decorated in misc. UK memorabilia. I LOVE the large mugs with the faces of royalty, and public figures on them. I could have easily stolen those, and taken them home with me. I also like the environment, because it was dark, and chilled, and didn't feel highly intentional with soft lights, or anything. It was relaxing.
The food here was amazing. Sadly, I can't remember the appetizer we had, but I remember ordering a burger, and it was absolutely phenomenal! The whole entire meal left nothing to be desired, or needed.
Six Pence is worth a try, and the prices are nice and in between. It's not cheap, but not terribly expensive like most places found in Blowing Rock.
I just wish we didn't have to listen to the drunk Yuppie next to us complaining about people like she owned Blowing Rock, or something. Lame Yuppie is LAME! -

A solid English pub.
In both food and looks.
All the staples are there on the menu, and the beef stew and bangers and mash that we ordered were good.
My husband enjoyed a sampler of some of the different beers they had on tap.
Exactly what you're lookin' for.Listed in: Paddle faster, I hear banjo…

The mental masochist in me loved the menu. It was torturous trying to narrow down what I wanted for lunch. And then I'm supposed to do it all over again with the beer menu? I'm on vacation dammit.
It was cold out, and so I had a hankering for a stew or pot pie type of product. It was the bangers & mash accompanied by sautéed squash that ultimately arrived on my plate. But to make sure that I didn't get too warm, and because I choose this place solely on the word "pub" in its name, I felt obligated to order a beer(s). Fortunately they offered a beer sampler, in which one may pick any 4 ales and/or blends.
This place has the look and feel and decor of a traditional pub despite the fact that it is one of three locations in the chain. It was a weekday just after New Year's and was not crowded by any means. We chose a table next to the front window. More importantly the table was right next to the door. The same door that opens and closes when patrons come and go. The same door that lets blasts of freezing air blow right inside and up the back of your untucked shirt. But like I said it wasn't crowded.
To further my masochism, after lunch we took our little girl to the park across the street to play on the slides and swings. And as I pumped my legs and watched my feet slip into the foreground of a crisp, blue, winter sky, I realized the true definition of bangers & mash. -

I've been here many time and mostly enjoyed both the food and the service, but we ended up walking out on our most recent visit. We were seated quickly and then promptly forgotten. We even asked two servers for assistance-

Made a return visit to Six Pence with family, after having really great food the last two Summer visits to Blowing Rock. Boy, something went downhill....although the service was very friendly and prompt, and the beer selection is very strong, the food was mediocre. Perhaps it was a bad day or we just ordered wrong; but, the flavors were absent or odd, and for the prices charged, the experience was a major disappointment. Change isn't always a good thing! Thank goodness that Kilwin's is nearby and could salvage the day with ice cream!

Six Pence is great. Very good food, service and price. I live in Charlotte and have been up to Blowing Rock two weeks in a row and chose Six Pense for dinner on both events. The fish n chips is by far the best menu item, with the Shephards Pie a close second.

Beer selection was awesome! The hobgoblin was superb! Food was delicious and their dessert martini 23 1/2 was out of this world!!

I love the town of Blowing Rock. It's a quiet, peaceful little town with a certain charm that makes you want to drive up and stay for a while. The restaurants are an integral part of that atmosphere and charm, and the Six Pence Pub is no exception. Granted, the place is like any standard pub you'd encounter, but the location greatly adds to the charm and warm feeling when you walk through the door. The menu, from my experience, is fairly standard pub fare, but they offer a wide selection of beer and other spirits. The wait staff was great both times I visited the pub. The food was a little pricey, but I've never been known to be cheap, anyway. I'd recommend the Six Pence Pub as a great little bar more than a place to grab something to eat.

We ended up at this place on a Sunday afternoon after turning down several more iconic establishments that had remarkably long waits. We still waited thirty minutes, but this was reasonable for how many people were out and about in the town of Blowing Rock. The food is fairly standard pub fare, but they do it pretty well. The service is efficient, and our food came fairly quickly.

This is a nice little pub. Exactly what you expect when you see "pub" in the name. The place was slammed when we went during Winterfest, but the service was great and the staff had a great attitude. Try the fish and chips and have a local brew on tap.

Very pub-like feel to the place, but my shepherd's pie was just too soupy. My husband's fish and chips were excellent, though.
