we use the full sevice wash and fold every week. saves a lot of time and cost the same as doing it yourself for the most part maybe 5 dollars more, but saves us 3 hours doing laundry.
Noni and Yee are amazing, the fix, iron, fold, tuck, anything you need they get it done, yes it would be great to have our own washer and dryer but till then I am truly happy there in the area and we dont have to be polite and wait as some idiot goes out drinking or home to nap as there clothes sit in the dryer or washer..
i miss living near this neighborhood in part because sit and spin is so wonderfully dog friendly and convenient.
LOVE being able to get coffee and chill with the pooch while lettin' my stuff suds and swish!
As far as I am convinced this is the most reliable laundromat in SF. The women are so very helpful, and though a bit pricey, I don't think I could come across better washes with such personable staff on hand. They even gave me trash bags, accompanied with such enthusiasm, when they saw my bags had torn. They understood that is was my first time there and immediately helped me with everything I would have asked for help with anyway. So great. So clean. So needed a great yelp! recommendation.
One of the simple pleasures of my week is being able to walk the half mile over to Sit and Spin with my laundry, stake out my claim to Norman and Josephine (my favorite washer and dryer, respectively), and then enjoy a good book and a cup of cocoa while my clothes get their tidiest.
I particularly enjoy how warm the laundromat is - it keeps me cozy as I sit on top of the counter in the middle of the shop (yes, I am THAT girl who sprawls out in public like I'm on my couch back home). Although I'll often sneak a peak at the TV (always playing the Travel Channel, of course), I genuinely enjoy being able to slow down my life a bit and really savor my drink and absorb what I am reading. I get so lost in the moment that I often don't even notice that my clothes are ready or that I'm spending $6 total to wash and dry a load of laundry.
The only way that Sit and Spin could make the experience any better is to have unstacked machines so we girls can sit on top. But you know what? It's the Castro, and beggars can't be choosers.
It's so clean and tidy, I've always felt safe here and so has my laundry, no germs, no cooties, clothes come home smelling fresh. All was blissful, UNTIL....
I brought my wash home last time and all my shirts and sweaters had holes in them! Every time I take out a new shirt from the drawer I find a new hole. I think it was the fault of the "Estevan" machine. Now I am a laundry orphan with nowhere to call home. So so sad :(
They name the washers! Ethel, Harvey, Liberace (!), etc. That is adorable.
Seriously this place is pretty great for doing laundry. It's clean, fun, and usually there's someone attractive to stare at. And if not there's a television tuned to Animal Planet or something equally ridiculous.
And not that I should know this but they use the GOOD toilet paper here. None of that one-ply sandpaper business. You know what I'm sayin'...
Minus one star because this place is kind of expensive ($3.95 per wash) and sometimes the card readers don't work and that causes me to become completely psychotic.
Nice clean laundromat. The washers work very well. The dryers are pretty darn expensive though, 40 cents for 6 minutes!!! Kind of a rip off. The staff there is nice and the cafe in the front is a nice place to kill time. I was here on a Monday afternoon and had the whole place to myself almost, and amazingly, found street parking right across the street!
If only the dryers weren't so damn expensive....................
I've been single for a long time now. (Just putting it out there.) I had this whole fantasy in my head when moving to San Francisco that I would be milling about in my daily routine and happen to bump into a man who
A. Doesn't live with his parents
B. Has a job
C. Emotionally stable
D. Not a whore
I always figured that the Laundromat was one of the places where I can meet that potential mate. Sadly, not yet. If you know anybody, send them my way.
Sit and Spin is pretty good. It may not be the closest to my apartment but it's worth the little extra walk so I can chill in Philz coffee while I wait and enjoy the WiFi.
For those of you not in the know, I work in a day spa. Day spas generate quite a bit of laundry. Well, when our dryer was temporarily disabled recently, my and my co-worker were assigned the task of hauling wet sheets and towels over to Sit & Spin to dry.
The ladies who work here were pretty helpful, in the sense that we had no idea how to run their machines and so they did it for us. They even let us pay after each load, rather than before, to make sure we wouldn't have to add more time to the drier. I can't remember the exact amount, but I think it was about two bucks for 40-ish minutes, and I have no idea if thats good or not.
Although I didn't take advantage of it, I liked the concept of having a coffee shop attached to a laundromat. Ok, I'm kind of lying. I sat at one of their outdoor tables to eat my Thai food from down the street, which was convenient (and better than having to walk back to work, only to turn around shortly thereafter).
I'm just glad that I get to do my laundry in my apartment building. Laundromats are confusing. I'm also glad that the dryer at work was back in action quickly. It was kind of fun for one day, but I bet it would have gotten old fast.
A happily-ever after story happened at Sit and Spin.
A sunny, breezy afternoon in Feb 2005, I went to Sit and Spin to meet up with the President of a non-profit organization as I wanted to volunteer some of my free time and skills to the community. Little did I know back then, my fate was forever changed that day.
Fast forward....
Another sunny, breezy afternoon in August 2006, the man I met a year and a half ago took me back to Sit and Spin for the first time after we met. I was daydreaming about the magical moment when we first met while sipping tea at the same table. Out of nowhere, he suddenly went down on one knee next to me, took out a jewelry box from his pocket. I was stunned and speechless at the sight of a beautiful diamond ring.
He proposed. I said yes.
The girl who worked behind the counter came out to give me a bouquet of roses and congratulated us. He picked me up and swirled around.
We were so overwhelmed with joy that we didn't notice we were on a busy sidewalk in Castro. My heart was pounding hard, millions of thoughts came to mind. As I was trying to come back to reality, he pointed to a woman with a professional camera from across the street. He had his friend photographed the entire proposal for us!
On another note, our outfits matched the colors of Sit and Spin completely by accident. Isn't fate funny?
As far as a business goes, Sit and Spin is for the multi-taskers who want to do laundry, get free wi fi and people watch while having coffee/tea and cookies.
Cool in concept, not so impressive in reality. Mostly, because of the prices - $2.75 for a cup (not pot, and not impressively large cup) of (good but not fabulous) tea? $1.50 for a teensy tiny cookie that I could get cheaper at Hot Cookie (which is saying a lot)? Yeah, so, only if you need free wi-fi and can't make it up to Jumpin' Java should you go here, or if you're tired of your local laundromat (that ain't cheap either).
Nice staff, nice atmosphere, and good that they make internet available if you need it/don't have a computer. Overall - not exactly my new favorite coffeehouse hangout...
I heart:
the lady who does the wash and fold for $.95 a pound (that's only like $8 sometimes when you don't have towels, which is cheaper than doing it yourself).
Philz coffee and free wifi
The washers and dryers that are giant, stainless steel and pretty clean for public use!
The fact that each washer is named
No more stupid quarters and change machines (hello stored value cards)
The only downside...Dry cleaning is really expensive here, I am used to a buck and change for dry cleaning one of my hubby's shirts, but here it's over $4 per item. Yikes!
Great laundry place just a tad expensive.
But with all the machines named , the machines take a card instead of coins no need to horde quarters, and quick drying times who am I to complain.
2 loads (one light one dark) in and out in under 1 hour. Can't beat it.
CAROL! She's such a sweetheart. She totally rocks...especially when she tells druggie people who use the bathroom to fuck off and that they're retarded. Hi-light!
So, yesterday (9/16/07) was my first time using this place for laundry. Pretty nice place...very friendly, and really neighborhood-like. I enjoyed it, and will most likely come back here in the future for more of my laundry needs. :) Perhaps one day I will have a dryer named after me.
OH! Joy of joy. ;)
I can't say enough positive about Sit and Spin. (I give it four stars because there's always got to be room for improvement, I guess?)
The people I've met who work there are wonderful, the place is clean and well designed, there is free WiFi, it's in the heart of the Castro, and I have to say I had the best meal I have ever had at a laundromat. I highly recommend the "Adult Grilled Cheese Sandwich" with coleslaw.
I sometimes go there if I just want good coffee/snacks and WiFi access but actually even did laundry there. The washers/driers all have names which makes it easy to find your clothes again, if you sometimes get distracted in the Castro (like me).
If you must do air your dirty laundry in public, this is the place to do it.
Not the same Sit and Spin in '07, kids.
Walked up to find a bunch of a hand-written signs on the windows... thought it turned into a chinese restaurant. Nope.. the washers are still here. And the dryers.. but the cafe isn't. Sign says they stopped food service. So, no soup for you. I just needed to use the wifi and lady said it was ten dollars an hour if I wasn't doing my laundry. Obviously new owners? That's no way to make friends with your new neighbors... and clueless about how much to charge for wifi usage to begin with.
I only really come here because it is convent. It is down the street and I always wait to the last second to do my laundry so I have like 10 pounds of laundry. Normally I come here on a weekday afternoon to insure that I get the washer and dryer that I like. It is nice that they have heat settings on their machines because some places that I have gone in the city don't do that. But just a warning IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE! I am going to say it is about $4.00 total to wash one load and about $2.00 for a dryer. Typically I spend $10 to wash my clothes. Pretty expensive but also really convent.
A laundromat with granite countertops and a cafe out front? Brilliant! This place offers a pleasant laundry experience and delightful staff. Machines operate on a card-based system, and are fairly expensive (~$4.00 a washer load at the time of writing). However, the environment brings me back every time. Expect to watch the travel channel on the plasma screen, as the laundry ladies dream of foreign lands.
I used to like this place until now. It is Sunday morning and if all dryers are in use, expect to spend about 4 hours more than you should have to. They apparently installed too much equipment to be all in use at the same time. Your best bet is to come here on a weekday morning when everyone else is at work and you have all the power available to do your own laundry. Good Luck. I won't be back.
ok
I rarely write reviews, but the wash & fold service here is absolutely amazing. I've been to quite a few places in the Noe & Castro area, and nothing comes close. The woman who runs the place is super careful, pleasant to deal with and gives you complete faith that your clothes are going to come back intact. Its expensive to do it yourself (although it is the cleanest laundromat you'll ever see) but paying $0.95 for multi-day wash & fold service is well worth it. The laundromat lady rocks. Also, the coffee shop (with wifi) are the amongst the best I've found attached to a laundromat if you do do it yourself.
Very cute and very clean. Brings out my inner gay man.
Sit and spin -- never felt so so good,
is a clean cute upscale Laundromat / cafe. I love sit and spin and you will too. a laundry oasis in the heart of Castro-- go ahead grab a cup of coffee and a seat in there cafe as your bed sheets wash, or maybe you rather surf the net on your lap top or use on of there computer 5.00 an hour or 3.00 dollars for 15 min.. Sit Spin has it all. Some of best feature are a attentive service, no homeless people hanging out. Hey it's the city-- (if you live here that's a blessing! ) The huge TV to distract you should you forget your computer. The free wireless, Granite tops to fold your laundry on. clean washers and dryer that are named jay, Jenny and so on. The bath room is a show room, with tiny green tiles and a clean fresh smell and a censored sink to wash in.
The food is ok. there staff is friendly, helpful. the cost is 3.20 dollars a wash and .25 cents to dry for 6 min. and yes it dry quick I dray a full load of jeans in 12 min .50 cents. A small price to pay for a clean, safe relaxing environment. laundry never was so quick. If you want to drop it off they offer a service for that as well. I highly recommend Sit and Spin-- never a wait and always a nice chilled experience.
I love to do laundry here even if I have to rent a car and drive to it from the inner sunset. Maybe I'm crazy, but I can't get off my tea and internet trip, especially while doing laundry.
Great place. Open-air on nice days (like today). A few tables outside. A few tables inside. Don't know/care about the laundry stuff, but the lady working behind the counter is uber nice. Got a little bottle of coke for $1.25 - a buck two five! Quiet. Spinning of the laundry machines is a great background noise. Nice wooden furniture - comfy, but not so comfy you'll fall asleep while working on something boring. Funky colors. Very bright and gay - happy gay and gay gay. Free wifi. No funky passwords. I'm a happy camper.
The name of this business often accompanies my certain finger salutation to bitchiness in the Castro. How delicious that it is really a laundromat and a cafe. They also do alterations. (With a name like sit and spin they better do alterations).
Philz just moved into this Laundromat's cafe spot, and the place is feeling alive again. Its very clean, well maintained and safe. There used to be trash reality TV playing, but I think they got rid of the cable. They named all the washers and dryers when the drag queen who originally owned the place opened it up, and some still have memories and and day dreams of "laundry nights" where everyone's in their underwear and enjoying cocktails.
When you absolutely, positively have to surf the internet with an espresso while watching your boxers rinse, this is the place. Clean spacious laundry with a tiny little coffee shop in front. Good coffee, bagels. Couple of internet terminals and free wifi.
I went here once to do a volunteer event for Magnet and AEF. The owner, patrons, and the event were terrific. Its great to see local businesses involved in the community. Too many times people will only do good things as long as there's something in it for them. Sit and Spin isn't that place. They do things out of the goodness of their hearts. Thank you guys, you know what it means to turn it around!
Like 4.6 stars, but it rounds up for 5.
These reviews very much need an update. The cafe was once vacant, but now filled up again by Philz Coffee from down the street. They essentially moved the whole place verbatim as it was before. Now it's the best of both worlds, a full on coffee shop (with customers this time!) and excellent laundromat. If I must sit for an hour and show a slew of gay men my dirty underwear, this is the only place I'll go. The machines are new and fully functional, you never have to deal with cash (only stored value cards), and there's almost always some friendly to talk to. And if you have dry cleaning or drop off, there's a 15-minute spot out front, that's hopefully not taken!
I must echo the other review and deduct 0.4 stars for the Chinese restaurant-style handwritten signs everywhere, or at least badly-spelled Engrish on the printed ones, but that's my only beef. :-)
The Sit & Spin is very nice, very clean, and the ladies who work there are friendly and helpful. It definitely makes laundry day enjoyable. I always look forward to laundry day because of the Philz coffee I get to enjoy while waiting on my clothes. It is $3.95 for a wash load, and pretty cheap drying...i think around $.45/seven minutes. I have never had to wait on washers/dryers while visiting the Sit and Spin! It is the kind of place i would go to even if i didn't live in the area. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
