This place was my fave while a student at SFSU back in the late 90s to early 2000 and it still is. I started coming to Sinugba when it really was a hole in the wall. I recently came here with grandma for take out. It seems that the walls had been repainted and new pictures adorned the wall. Yep, I hadn't been there in a long time.
The chicken tosilog (grilled marinated chicken) with garlic rice, and scrambled eggs was nicely seasoned. Rice was a plenty and the eggs were soft, just the way I like it. My grandma had the bangsilog (fried milk fish) which she enjoyed quite a bit. You can't beat the price at $6.99.
(Wooh been a while since I dropped a Yelpiew... time to drop hot fyahhh. Seriously it's 1am and I'm gonna attempt to drop a lot of reviews before I snooze lol.)
So about this place? It's gud. Authentic Filipino food, which I lub much. Unsurprisingly located in Daly City but it's tucked in a cozy spot and the place is not too big or small. Bistek, Sinigang, Adobo, or Dinuguan (for you hardcore ppl) won't dissapoint. This is like a family spot real deal and the staff is nice. Special.
I took my girlfriend here to experience Filipino fare for her first time(this was also my first time to Sinugba, so it was a gamble). I will say my gamble paid off. She was skeptical at first but once she took her first bite, she was very satisfied.
We had an order of Lumpia, the Bistek lunch special, Chicken Adobo, and Garlic rice. Sinugba's portions are very generous. At first I thought it was a bit pricey but after seeing how much food you get, I was good with forkin out the dough. The Chicken fell off the bone and the adobo sauce was just right, not too salty. The Bistek was tender and was a bargain for a lunch special($5.99 and will fill you up). Lumpia were nice and crispy and not greasy at all. The garlic rice was up there with the best I have had, not over offensive with the garlic.
The only negative thing about Sinugba, is where it is located. The restaurant is not far from the 280 in Daly City but it is loacted in a weird little cul de sac. I think it could be tough for someone, not familiar with the area, to find. Other than that, I give Sinugba two thumbs up.....ooops I mean 3 stars ; ).
Crispy pata silog? $9? Um, yes and yes.
I'm from LA and this place rocks as opposed to the typical Filipino fare. Prices are great. I had the crispy pata silog and my friends had the dinuguan and lechon kawali. Everything was good and fresh not reheated. You can taste the love and care in the prepetation.
I would come back to eat some more. :)
MASARAP :).
the tilapia sinugbang (i think that's what it's called) I crave often. The abukado shake is noteworthy and the staff is friendly!
If you had asked me back in 2000-2004 what I thought about Sinugba, I would have given it more than 1 star. It used to be the normal eatery when I lived in the Bay Area.
On a recent trip to the Bay, Jon B. and I wanted to relive the moments of silog goodness. Both times that we attempted to visit Sinugba, they were closed. Even having checked on Yelp when they opened and closed, we were met with the "Closed" sign. The first time, we waited and returned a few times. Sadly, Sinugba, you have disappointed me.
I have never had Filipino food. I've had a lumpia or two, but I know that's not even worth mentioning. It's like someone eating a eggroll - thinking that they've had really good Chinese food or something.
Daly City is where the Filipino population is, so I thought it would be appropriate to pick a restaurant there so off to Sinugba we went.
The place has plenty of parking which is great. It's very small but very homey. Our server was very sweet and efficient.
We had the mango shake which was delicious - I think they use real mango ice cream. My bf had a pork dish that came out sizzling. Big pieces of pork meat and best of all - pork fat. My boyfriend picked out all the fat and left it, uneaten, on the side of his plate. I was so glad my Chinese grandmother wasn't present - she would have practically stuffed the fat down my boyfriend's throat. "Good food should never ever go to waste. Better to waste a body than to waste good food."
I had the bitter melon with shrimp, tomatoes and onions. My dad used to abuse me. He'd make me eat bitter melon - just steamed. No sauce, no nothing. Do you know how traumatizing that is? Well, now I've come to love bitter melon especially with sauce (thanks dad). The shrimp looked like the frozen kind and they were pretty small. I was expecting big pieces of juicy shrimp - but unfortunately, this place fell short. I would not recommend this dish unless you are on a health kick or you love bitter melon. I wanted something refreshing and bitter melon hit the spot.
Unfortunately both our dishes were a little too salty for our taste - it was a good thing we decided to get a big tub of garlic rice. You have to get the garlic rice. It's like rice on crack.
Picture this:
One day you wake up from a dream of you and your family sitting around a dinner table enjoying a big bowl of nilaga.. You wake up in tears wishing there was a place that can fulfill that craving...
You get in your car and take a stroll around Daly City--- You stumble by a sign that sounds Filipino--- SINUGBA--- MmmMMm--- I wonder if i can get nilaga there instead of making it at home---
BAD MOVE--
I walk into the restaurant and it smells like food-- good sign, they cook... Then take a seat and look around-- pretty clean and seats are not too comfy but not torn and dirty... I check out the corners of the room and see a camera--- then another, then another, then another... How many cameras does one place need... Is this neighborhood that bad? Or does the boss really not trust his employees-- I guess there was a surplus sale on cameras, because it was too a point that i felt my privacy was in jeopardy...
The food finally came... Just the soup-- no rice (W/C I asked for....) so i sat there for a minute, maybe he is getting it... The guy at the register is standing there reading something, and just sits for like 5 mins... So I finally go up to him and ask him if i ordered rice just in case he forgot... he looks over his shoulder and notices the bowl sitting on the counter and says oops, i forgot-- I'm sorry we are so busy today and I'm a little frazzled... I look around a again just to make sure i was not dreaming that i was the only one who step foot into the restaurant in the last 30 minutes...
My COLD rice is at my table and a big bowl of OILY nilaga... the taste was bleh and really greasy tasting... (You all know what i mean) it was not hot or warm-- it was almost a tad bit higher than room temperature... So i think, what were they doing in the last 15-30 minutes while i was waiting for the food?
I don't know what it was but i just didn't like the place the one time--- And usually one time does it for me... But i still gave the place a second chance with a different dish, then another, then another...
I liked this place-- a little-- for some reason it was a decent home cooked meal therefore, not too restaurant quality.I just moved here from Seattle, and there is no place to get goooood Filipino food there, so i cross my fingers and walk into this place...
The place is extremely inconsistent... If you are looking for that *comfort* food feeling of eating a good bowl of nilaga, it will taste like it should one day and taste different the next.... Their Sisig was not to sit and rave about-- extremely fatty, in turn gross and ick...
*Breathe* OK I'm done now....
Now I know what people are raving about this place. Sinugba makes the best pork BBQ!!!! My coworker actually drives all the way from San Jose to get their pork bbq.. now I know why..
nothing much too say but AWESOME, YUMMY, GREAT PORTION, GREAT SERVICE... LOOOVEEEE IT!!!
Btw, the prices are pretty decent.. their silog plates are 6.95ish
Me and my friends from the Philippines decided to come here after it was recommended to me by Da Bull himself, John G.
My friends ordered Sisig and Pork Sinigang respectively. While we were waiting for our food , we started talking about the best Sisig we've ever had back in the Philippines and it got us quite excited. It may have been a bad thing since our expectations went up.
We all agreed that the Sisig that was serves was not Sisig at all. It tasted like a Filipino dish called Tokwa't Baboy which is basically Pork and Tofu in some kind of vinegar sauce.
The Pork Sinigang was pretty unusual, too! It had cabbage instead of leafy veggies and the soup wasn't that sour.
I got the Chicken BBQsilog which was really awesome! It was cooked perfectly and the flavor was really great. I'm pretty sure they marinated the chicken for a long time because it was really tasty inside and out.
If I had not tasted my friends' food, I would have given this place 4 stars. But, hey, being born and raised in Manila, I know what real Sisig and Pork Sinigang should taste like.
We came here after a long day of adventures with friends and the kiddos at Cal Academy. It was an awesome place to be btw. Went on Yelp to see where we should go for sustenance and refuel since we were all super exhausted. And because Daly City is on the way home and we wanted to go for pinoy food, we thought we'll have a good find to dine. With that the reviews pointed us to Sinugba.
And, oh, I told my brother that's where we're going and he said, "Doesn't that mean something is burnt!" Haha. I have no clue and I have yet to find out what the heck that means.
Arrived there and I was already disappointed. The place needs TLC. I rate heavily on cleanliness and my husband even warned me not to go to their bathroom if I didn't want to get grossed out. So I ended up using hand sanitizer to "wash" my hands and the kids' hands. Their food was okay. They do have an impressive -silog plates to choose from. I ordered the tapsilog and boy was it dry! Was it suppose to be beef jerky-like? And my eggs-over-medium was made over-done! Oh well, I was too hungry to complain. We all shared an order of shanghai lumpia which tasted like the ones you can fry up yourself from the frozen section at asian stores. The sisig was way too greasy and the crunch factor turned into a leather good. We also ordered pansit canton for the kids and that one I didn't get to taste but the kids seemed to love it including my 9 month-old monster! Hehe! He and my bff's son slurped them with gusto! So cute!
Anyway, it's still an experience to come here but, unfortunately, I won't be coming back and I don't recommend this place if you're looking for non-greasy, delicious pinoy food. I'm sure your pinoy friends/families can cook better food!
Okay, we've been to this place years ago and back then it was okay.
We decided to try them again because of the reviews from yelpers. Big mistake...
Our orders:
Longsilog - my son said Manila Eatery's longganisa's were much better
Sizzling Sea Bass - it's ok - big portion
Sizzling Sisig - it's ok - chunks of fat, better off at Goldilocks
Pinakbet - not good at all...too much sauce (or sabaw) I've never had that kind of Pinakbet before and it was so much shrimp paste in it and the vegetables are sooooo over cooked. It was like left over from someone's table actually...
Beef Mami - wouldn't know how it taste because they actually forgot to put the order in - we were the only ones there so I don't know why they failed to put the order in. This was around 200pm.
Sotanghon - gave it to us to make up for the messed up order. it was so bland.
Lumpia - this was good!
Sorry Sinugba - just giving my honest opinion...but we'll never be back...I'll stay at Manila Eatery :o)
I was just looking at the photos...the pinakbet they show on here is totally different from what was served at our table...the photos actually look really good, but the real food isn't.
crispy patasilog?!? holy mother of silogs, this is hog heaven.
rich, greasy, crispy bits of fried pork goodness, so good on its own but even better with garlic fried rice and fried egg!
and their longsilogs and tapsilogs are yummy too. perfectly garlicky (but not bitter) fried rice and over easy cooked eggs - not one but two! so there's definitely enough to make two meals out of each silog (if you can stop yourself from gobbling it all down!)
This low key place off Westborough is just a force throw's away from our place, so one day we just decided to check it out. That was about three weeks ago, and the wife and I have been back about 5 times already.
I don't know much about Pilipino food, but if this place was any indication, I have been missing out for over 30 years! Everyone will tell you the BBQ Chicken silog is the thing to get but also try out the chicken adobo (best ever! ) and the milk fish. The longanisa is greasy but oh so sweet and the corned beef is also a winner. It's a little dive so don't expect the red carpet, but it's a family friendly place with great home style food."
I went back and the service was still terrible. The place was only 1/4 full but:
1) Service is still terrible (new older waiter)
- Took 10 minutes to get water
- Didn't write down my order and messed up my requests
- no egg on sisig as requested
- no lime as requested
- received lemon (even though the waiter said they had lime) after second request for lime
2) Order took forever
- 15 minutes for an avocado shake
- 15 minutes for more for sisig
3) Nothing special about the sisig....mostly fat (recommend Boracay or Patio)
On the good side
Avocado shake was tasty
Tocino to-go was great as always
Overall, I'll just say that as soon as someone comes up with a better tocino, I'm gonna be done with Sinugba.

I had a long debate with myself on this restaurant's rating. I've been going here for over 10 years,… Read more »
Absolutely one of the BEST Filipino Resturaunts EVER...my favorite had to be the egg with rice and tocino! It wasn't even really oily!
POSITIVES:
-GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE
-CLEAN resturaunt and restroom!
-AWESOME FOOD!
NEGATIVES:
-I honestly don't remember anything negative about this place!
FINAL THOUGHTS:
It's been a LONG TIME since I've been to this place since it's up north! But it was great enough to where I remember it! I highly suggest anyone that's taking a trip to the BAY AREA to hit up SINUGBA and if you like Mexican food...hit up ARAUJOS!!!!
I was intown to babysit my cousins newly born daughter and well because of she is probably the only filipino ever in the world to not know how to cook I knew I should eat first. Checked out yelp and it lead me to Sinugba. I took my boyfriend with me because he loves pork sisig and from his pov he says it was delicious. Now for me as the piggy filipino girl, I ordered milkfish with eggs, garlic rice, and lechon kawali. All were delicious and tasted like real filipino dishes.
The only con about this place is I orderd sago and it was wayyyy too watered down, I know they wanna save money but come on my sago was still clear when you gave it to me!
We came here because a friend recommended it. Kinda hard to find if you don't know the area. It's a small place. We had a party of 5 adults and 4 kids, they didn't have a big or long enough table so they put two round tables together. I wouldn't have mind if it was all adults but because we had kids with us, it was kinda hard to sit. The service was okay. We ordered six dishes:
- sisig ... kinda plain had better else where
- sinigang baboy ... pretty good, the ratio of meat and veggie was 50/50 and it was pretty sour (which is how I like it)
- fried chicken ... nothing special about it, we could have passed on it.
- kare kare ... hella salty! No one hardly ate it, wouldn't order it again.
- chicharon bulaklak ... one of the first to be gone but because everyone was munching on it.
- TACINO ... the best I've had so far at a restaurant! We actually had two orders of it.
I would only go back if I'm in the area and probably just for the Tacino and Sinigang.
I'll have to admit, I was not too familiar with Filipino cuisine until...
We decided to try Sinugba in Daly City thanks to an excellent recommendation from a friend.
We started with appetizers: chicharon bulaklak and kinilaw na seabass (which was like cerviche), absolutely delicious.
For the main course I tried the sizzling sisig minced pork cutlets sauteed in chopped onions lemon juice and soy sauce tossed on a sizzling plate. It tasted exactly like it sounds. My date had the chicken adobo.
For dessert (which we barely had room for), we tried the turon a la mode (sweet banana wrapped in a lumpia wrapper deep fried with a scoop of mango ice cream on top).
The ambiance was decent, the staff was prompt, courteous and always checking in to see how we we doing. Overall, a great dining experience and would highly recommend Sinugba.
Sinugba. The BEST place to go for truly AWESOME Flilpino food.
I was introduced to their dishes back in the early 90's. Despite there being many places to get Filipino food in the bay area, this is still clearly one of my favorite places to dine. The ingredients are fresh and everything is cooked to order. I can say I've tried almost everything on the menu, and the pork tosilog and sisig are my two favorites. You can also enjoy their rich and thick mango or ube shakes, or any of their other sweet treats. So yummy.
Their prices are more than reasonable, and their portions are quite generous.
The service is always great, and the wait staff is always smiling and anxious to take orders. The environment is clean, comfy, and it's a great place to get a good meal. Ask for your eggs the way you want it, the meat is grilled to your liking, and the rice is always steaming fresh and hot...
I constantly travel around the world on business while looking for the best places to eat. This is still one of my favorites.
If you are looking for an awesome experience and great Filipino food, you HAVE TO go to Sinugba. I am sure you will be back for more. I have to go there at least once a week to get my fill...!
3 if not 3 1/2 stars
for flipino food this place does alrite, they offer an assortment of home cooked dishes especially there silog's (2 egss, garlic rice & your choice of meat or meats)
been goin to this place for awhile since 2000 food has always been good, tasty, finger ling ling good haha. shanghai eggrolls are always a hit, there bbq pork or chicken is always good, there crispy pata (deep fried ham hocks) wut can I say is a huge portion enough to feed 4 grown folks, they also off alot of fish dishes, alot of the kind that you don't want to make at your house due to the smell it leaves for a few days like Bangus (milkfish deepfried sometime seasoned overnite with vinegar and lemon) or tuyo (deep fried salted dried sardines) which usually the smell sticks to your clothes after eating and your breath and also dried squid i dont remember the flipino name for it but it reeks when made at your house..
dont how long ago but they did renovate and now the prices are lil bit higher food hasnt changed still good just a bit more pricey.
food ****
service *** (ask for a pitcher of water they usually dont refill unless u call one of them over)
ambiance *** (older design reminded me of a run down chinese resturant u would find on the mission, since the renovation decent look and feel to it now)
Nothing beats my mama's breakfast, but this one comes HELLA close. I've been on a hunt for a good Filipino breakfast joint for a long time. It's a little hard to find because the joint is located in a shopping center in Daily City so make sure you get directions.
** Working Class Prices($3-6)
** One of the bombest tasting Pilipino Breakfast Joints in the Bay
* Filipinos working the joint.
* Services is cool and workers are super polite.
They serve breakfast all day. Get the Pork Silug with garlic fried rice and sunny side up egg. I always get a shang hai lumpia with calamanci juice. Trust me you will not be disappointed! The only thing is make sure you check the time because they're closed on certain days. I use to make the trek from Berkeley to get my fix!
I'm the corned beef-lover friend of the reviewer below!
A little revision though, not only do I love the corned beef silog here, I think I'll visit this place at least once every week until I try everything on the breakfast menu. Now that I don't have a Filipino bf to cook me my Filipino breakfast anymore, coming here to satisfy my craving for anything-silog is the only sensible solution! It doesn't hurt that they offer free refills for coffee.
I also just found out today that sinugba means "grilled" in Tagalog!
We had a hair appointment in San Mateo and I wanted to eat Filipino food on our way back home for lunch so I looked up on Yelp and found many places in Daly City. We decided to try Sinugba.
Since it was our first time at this place, we didn't want to order too many dishes. We ordered the famous pork Sisig and I have to tell you, it was amazingly good. I liked it a lot. I didn't know what else to order so I asked the server and he recommended some dishes. We got the Grilled BBQ chicken and the garlic rice. Both dishes were really good too. We also tried the halo halo with ice cream for a happy ending and it wasn't bad.
Our sever was very helpful and it didn't take long to get the food at all. I'm looking forward to going back to try something else at Sinugba again if we are in the area.
Just because...college memories and excellent porky goodness...
IKAW AY PUPUNTA!!!
(telling you to GO in tagalog...)
it sounds hella weird to hear it from me, a Korean dude, but I KNOW FILIPINO FOODS. It's a long story...
and i have a picky taste buds with good memories.
Although i have been not really having Filipino foods since i don't crave it enough to overcome my laziness to drive to Daly City or Union City, or Vallejo, I didn't mind not having it. Plus, they are not exactly healthy foods, too.
But as my friend from my days in the Philippines (RP) visited, I thought it'd be nice to get some filipino food like the old days and reminisce. I had Jollibee with him before, so I thought I should try some of the good'ol breakfast places as he was arriving at SFO in the morning.
As I entered the place, I felt like I was going to storm out if the place had breakfast menu over 10 bucks, but hey they didn't. In fact, each item on the breakfast section was around 6-7 bucks. I don't mind about the place as long as the food they serve follows the general ambiance of the restaurant and a reasonable price range, and hey, this place had a perfect fit, I must say.
and the food was actually GREAT,
tasted just like the ones in the RP.
Bangus was well cooked without fishy smell, garlic rice was not oily, and pork chop was well seasoned, could be a little salty for some people, but it's how it used to taste like when I was in the RP.
The waiter was a kid, nice, efficient, not bothering to come up with bothering small talks since we ain't no Filipinos.
This review is purely on the breakfast, so I will see if their other stuff taste good and write another one. This place actually make me think about going back and try some of their stuff, and not many places make me feel that way.
My spoon was a lil dirty, so I thought four stars, but the fact that they make me think about going back to try other dishes says that they deserve 5 stars from me. The spoon thing could have happened in any other places, and they took care of it, anyway.
I've recently had a newfound passion for Filipino food, and this place definitely meets my standards. I came here with two of my coworkers and we ordered the Crispy Pork with skin, Chicken with veggie soup and ginger, Oxtail and Tripe with peanut sauce, and garlic rice (sorry i don't know the Filipino names!)
All the dishes were yummmy! The garlic rice was delicious as usual. And mmm the Crispy Pork is great too! And there's just soo much fat; you can't help but eat it though! That's the best part! The chicken soup, on the other hand, was a little on the salty side. Neverthless, I packed it up to go so I could take it home and dilute it to my liking =D.
The waiter was extremely nice and helpful. He even gave us some advice on our dishes since we're quite indecisive.
They have a breakfast special that they serve all day! We saw the table across from us order it, and instantly drooled at their big portioned food for such a cheap price. We'll definitely try that next time!
Nice to see you again, old lover.
This is how I felt when I came here after a long hiatus. We came here directly after ice skating downtown as we were craving some good Filipino food. The last time I was here was way back in 1994. Yeah...it's been a while. I was still dating my wifey back then and this is the first time my kids ate here.
As we got here, I was a little apprehensive as there were only 4 people dining inside. With a bit of trepidation, we continued and hoped that the quality of the food hasn't suffered. From what I remember: they still had the same decorations and paintings on the wall. I was happy that the old, dirty carpet was gone and it was replaced by hardwood floors; but it could use an upgrade on their furniture. Let's just say the tables and chairs weren't very inviting.
However, that quickly faded as I began to smell something very familiar. My wife ordered the Chicken BBQsilog while me and my youngest ordered Crispy Porksilog, and my oldest ordered the Longsilog. (Silog is a typical Filipino breakfast dish that comes with garlic rice and two eggs over easy) We were hungry so we added an appetizer of Chicharon Bulaklak. (Roughly translated as Chicharon Flowers) This stuff can clog an artery faster than a Pinoy will turn around if someone calls Psssst.
As we were waiting, more customers began to arrive and some were non Pinoys. A group of six Asian kids came a few minutes after us and they seemed to be regulars. The place quickly filled up and the lone guy working the cash register also doubled as the server, waiter, busser and host. He was very impressive as he was fast and efficient. This guy looked like a teenager but was working all the tables like a pro. He was also rockin a bright red shirt with big bold letters that read, "No Bitchiness Allowed." I was digging it.
When the chicharon bulaklak arrived, we were very surprised that it wasn't fatty and greasy. This thing was crispy, crunchy and good. It came with different vinegar dipping sauces and even a Jufran Banana Ketchup. (I later found out it was for the Crispy Porksilog) Holy Cow, a lean chicharon bulaklak got my taste-buds tingling like Novocaine. I was lovin it, my kids were lovin it and ditto on the wifey.
Then our main dishes arrived and got us more excited. They weren't lyin about the Crispy Porksilog. The outer pork skin was crispy good and the meat just had the right texture and flavor. It would be easy to overcook this dish but it came out just right. Then I got a sniff of something very familiar and I can't believe I have forgotten this for so effin long. My wife had ordered the Chicken BBQsilog and one look at this dish suddenly opened my memory bank.
How could I forget? I use to order this dish whenever I came here and it was like love at first sight. This was cooked to perfection as the chicken had grill marks on the outside and had caramelized from the marinade. It looks a tad burnt but that's an optical illusion. One bite into the chicken and I was in heaven. Crispy on the outside but soft and tender on the inside. I was immediately taken back to 1994 as the flavor had not changed at all. I was crying on the inside as tears of joy were flowing through me. It's as if I was being reunited with a long lost love again.
OK...forget the tacky table, forget the tacky chair...it's all about the food. I need to start frequenting this place again.
Would the wifey consider that cheating?
this place is a sit-down as opposed to buffet-style ordering. pretty much everything on the menu comes with huge portions. the pancit canton was very tasty, although they piled on the veggies. the chicken adobo was amazing. the meat was literally falling off the bone. the garlic rice was also delicious and the "2 cups" they gave us could have fed a family of 5. after the meal, there was absolutely no room for desert and i was able to take home what amounted to as a full meal. the service was nice and quick. definitely worth the hype.
I was really excited to see the review for this place, and was craving for Filipino food after Serrmonte shopping.
So my man and I went here instead of Toppings, and was unfortunately dissapointed. We ordered the Pinakbet and Dinuguan with a bowl of Garlic Fried Rice.
Dinuguan: really watery, though the meat was tender.
Pinakbet: I know how hard it is to cook a vegetable stew and hit that sweet spot ot not completely killing the veg and still keeping it firm, though the vegetables were cooked well, the broth was watered down and didn't really have substance. I didn't taste the saltiness of the bagoong at all.
Garlic Fried Rice: This is the plus in the entire meal, cooked really well and huge portion.
Oh well...different folks...
Another great place to get some Filipino grub. The best thing about this place are the breakfasts. I'll usually get the tocilog or tapsilog and wash it off with some halo-halo. The Arroz Caldo is also very yummy here. I took some non-Filipino friends here one time and they all liked the food. The servings are all big here and satisfying
The only flaw about the place is that the workers are not very outgoing. They seem like nice people but you just get this cold, chilly feeling as if they are watching your every move here. Most of them seem emotionless to the point where you feel like you're in the movie Invasion of The Body Snatchers. But hey that's what you call normal Filipino customer service.
helllooooooooooooo.
sadly, the tocino at toppings is just not the same anymore. therefore i needed to hunt for a new place to fill my cravings. paul remembered this place. it's kind of in the cuts but there's plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. the inside is pretty nice and i've never had to wait for a table since it seems to always be fairly empty. the menu's got a pretty good selection, and so far i've tried the tapa, tocino, pork adobo, pancit canton, and crispy pata.
every silog plate is 6.95 [except the crispy patasilog, which i will get to in a second]. it comes with some damned good meat, two eggs, and a CUP of rice. ONE CUP. it's ridiculous. we figured that one of us can just order a silog plate while the other orders a side of meat and then just half the rice because we're cheap like that.
the crispy patasilog is so huge it took paul like 5 intervals to finish it. the pancit canton will also last you for days. the service is always quick and polite here and it's become my new go-to spot. the only downside is some of the dishes are more expensive than i'm used to, ie an order of lumpia for $8.95. soups are also around $11, but i'll probably order it in the future anyway.
This is still one of my favorite filipino restaurants to go to in the bay. The food here is always tasty and very reasonably priced. I took my good friend here because she wanted to eat lumpia. Plus I had a craving for some kinda silog that day so I ended up with getting adobosilog. Of course filipino adobo is regional. Some places make it with pork or chicken, deep fried with no sauce, with sauce, some dry, some wet. The pork adobo we had was on the wet side biased with more soy sauce than vinegar. I don't really like adobo with bay leaves but it was still good regardless. The service is fairly fast and the location is always good.
BTW, if you're in a lowered car, you may want to carpool from Serramonte or better yet, take a stock height car as those speed bumps and very steep driveways can be brutal.
When we're hungry in the San Francisco/Daly City area, this spot would always be one of our top choices. If you're into Filipino food, this place is as simple as it gets and not so expensive. Quality is always good and lately the service has been above par.
You can't go wrong with their long list of Silog dishes that are served all day. They're served with ample portions. I've had a few of their other dishes a la carte, but if almost all their dishes are available with garlic rice and eggs, then why not just order Silog style? But then again, it might be a good idea to ask what they don't have among the list of Silogs, because last time we went here, some of the dishes weren't available.
Chicharron Bulaklak used to be my favorite here. When I bite into one piece, a gush of oil explodes in my mouth.....so darn appetizing and juicy, and so much cholesterol! Maybe hot tea would've been better, instead of drinking ice cold Coke that only solidifies the fat going down my throat. I had to stop eating good like that as I got older.
A few other dishes I've had the pleasure of eating through the years at this small family-style restaurant:

I remember back in my college days (especially right after clubbin in the city), we would have to wait to be seated. But lately, we would find open tables when we walk in. I guess I'm going at the right times. On another note....the Comfort Room could use some help. It's still pretty dirty, even messy outside of the CR door.
Overall, this place rocks! Food's good, prices are good, and staff is friendly. Just remember to eat in moderation and watch the cholesterol when you eat here.
Went here for a funeral-afterward....
They closed the place down for the family, which was very nice. The staff was personable and introduced the items well, which isn't too too neccessary for a group of filipinos.. but it was certainly appreciated.
I found the food to be a tad on the salty side. The pinakbit had a lot of bagoong.. noticably much. Pancit, not bad, not something I'd dive into the to go box in the car either. We had chicken adobo.. good, a little greasy. I like a little more tang, and bay leaves. Adobo didn't appear to be seared or grilled first- dump style boiled, i assume.
one thing at this place that DID stand out was the grilled fish.
Great stuff.
the lumpia was weird, yammy.. interesting, but not the type you'd want to "til-til" in your sili/garlic/vinegar.
They are visayan-- from cebu. Young owners.
Okay-ish, but definitely dissapointing.
Came in on a rainy Saturday, hoping for some good ole Filipino comfort food. We ordered the Shanghai lumpia and Tapsilog. Then the horror began... We waited 50 minutes (yes, 50!!) just for our lumpia to come. I understand that it's made to order.. but 50 minutes?! The restaurant was pretty empty, and other patrons were already served their food. When the lumpia arrived, I expected it to be freaking shit-in-your-pants fantastic, but nope... it was lukewarm and frankly, quite mediocre. I didn't wait 50 minutes for some lukewarm Shanghai lumpia! Then our tapsilog came.. also lukewarm. I don't get how something made to order can be lukewarm. Sighh... beef was also kinda chewy and stringy(er) than what I've had in the past.. nothing special. The garlic rice was good though.
THEN... our bill came... and when he returned my credit card and receipt, I realized, to my horror, he rang me up for another bill. I go and tell him, and he downplays it by telling me that it's only about a dollar difference. Still... you still overcharged me for lukewarm food!!! Ughh... the whole experience just left a sour taste in my mouth.
P.S- food is probably good.. cuz on our way out.. I see a ton o Filipinos heading in... so it must be good and authentic... shrug.
But since I see all the Filipinos raving about this place on Yelp, can't help but wonder if I got crappy, lukewarm food cuz I'm freaking Chinese? :)
The only thing missing from my bangsilog dish (fried milkfish, garlic rice, and 2 fried eggs) was tomato. That would have been a nice addition to give me the illusion that I was having some veggies with my essentially straight up fried meal! Plus, the tomato helps in adding a cool compliment to the hot and fried meal.
The milkfish was a healthy size portion, perfectly fried and crispy in the right spots. Served with 3 dipping sauces - shoyu/vinegar/onion, rice vinegar, and patis (fish sauce). Very good.
Their garlic fried rice definitely does not beat Ongpin's but when I'm craving some home style eats/comfort food this place hits the spot. Don't get me wrong, you're still awarded the garlic burps after, but the fried garlic was sprinkled on top rather than incorporated into the rice. The great thing is that the rice is not greasy and swimming in oil!
I would love to come back here and try out the other dishes but the -silog (fried rice) dishes are always the quickest and the cheapest.
Another plus - after a hot hot hot SF weekend, the halo halo and mais con yelo ice drinks were masarap (OMG-delicious!)!!!!
I have been coming to Sinugba since high school. And that was a long time ago. I remember when their silogs were $4.50! Their prices have increased, but the quality of food is still there. Chicken BBQsilog is great. Then i started to rock the Pork Chopsilog. Fried of course. They also give you nice sized portions if you're a big eater.
The only reason i didn't give them 5 stars is because of the set up inside. The round tables are horrible. Then to have round tables against the wall? Someone needs to go get an interior design book or maybe check out some restaurants for some ideas. Sitting at those huge round tables when there's only 2 of you is awkward.
Anyway, the food is good. Do it.
I was offered a free replacement when I return. It's real nice of them and I'm sure it was just an unintentional out of the ordinary situation with the spider. Again, the food is really good and I will definately give them another chance.

To be honest, the food actually tasted good despite the fact that one of our to go boxes had a daddy… Read more »
