After going from one jewelry store to another, every vendor had similar settings and diamonds that just didn't appeal to me at all.
So, when searching for my engagement ring I knew i wanted something unique and different, a round old european cut diamond with a vintage inspired setting. After searching on Yelp and Pricescope (learn everything about diamonds here), I fell in love with Single Stone and I knew I wanted to get my ring here. I'm obsessed with their store and website! I looked countlessly at every piece they had.
The SS staff is AMAZING and I cant thank Ari, Heather and Patti enough!
They make sure you are 100% happy with your ring. I don't know how many times I went to the showroom, so indecisive because every piece is so beautiful! I tried on sooo many rings and each of them unique in their own way which is the beauty about vintage pieces.
I was set on a ring and then Ari pulled out this beautiful cushion cut diamond and that was it for me. Next, I had put a down payment on the ring, but after a couple of days I started to have second thoughts. I emailed SS with my concerns and without hesitation, they pulled some rings that I requested to look at. Again, I went to the showroom still indecisive about what to get but when Ari pulled out the ring I requested to see, I knew it was for me.
If your looking for vintage diamonds and settings, SS is the spot! Even if your interested in modern cuts, they will find what your looking for and even custom make the setting of your dreams. The settings are hand made, BEAUTIFUL and the craftsmanship and details on them are amazing.
I cant say it enough, I LOVE my ring and I LOVE Single Stone! -

I can't speak highly enough of Single Stone. Every single person in the store is very personable and knowledgable. I first went there a year ago, when I was in the market for an engagement ring. After emailing them with a description of what I wanted and my budget, they set aside all the items that met my criteria. When I went in, I wasn't sure what to expect, but everyone there was friendly and they didn't try to upsell me.
They showed me about ten rings, and I selected the perfect one. Unsure of my girlfriend's ring size, they told me to just bring her in after I proposed (presuming she accepted), and they would resize and clean the ring for free. They also polished it before I even left the store.
A few months ago, when it was time to shop for wedding bands (she said "yes"), we went right back to Single Stone. Not only did they remember us, they remembered where we left off in conversation the previous year. We got a great deal on the bands, and they did a beautiful job engraving them, too.
I highly recommending making Single Stone your first stop when shopping for vintage rings or wedding bands. You won't need to go anywhere else. -

This is THE place for vintage rings. Here's a quick breakdown:
-Their selection has very unique pieces.
-The staff respects your price range. (see NOT PUSHY)
-Turnaround on the ring sizing was pretty fast.
My fiance was looking for a very unique piece and we had little luck going to all the other stores. Everything was typical or trendy, which is not what she likes. She really wanted a vintage ring... not just vintage style, but a real vintage ring. We found Single Stone and she fell in love with a ring. It was a vintage ring from the 1890's! We wouldn't have found that anywhere else. The sales girl Heather was so helpful and she made sure the price was right as well as got the ring to us asap. Transaction went smoothly! We were in and out of there within an hour!
Highly recommend Single Stone and sales rep Heather. -

"You just know.."--The saying I've heard all my life about finding the one you want to spend the rest of your life with is also true when searching for the ring you want for the rest of your life.
Ring hunting was not fun, actually, it was kind of brutal. I quickly found out that you need to walk into a store knowledgeable and with a firm vision or you will either be ignored or pounced on. I got neither of these treatments at Single Stone.
My TOP criteria (so I don't bore you with all of it!): 1) certified conflict-free diamonds 2) budget 3) unique or vintage inspired look 4) a tug on my heart ;)
To avoid buying a conflict diamond, I first thought of engineered stones, but the look was too "perfect" and lacked character. So, back to diamonds, I called and searched for ones with a Kimberly Process Certificate. Wow, it was pretty shocking to find out almost no one could provide one or even know the origin of the stones. How can you certify it if you don't know where it came from?!
The solution was found with Old European Cut diamonds from Single Stone! These diamonds date to early 1900's which put my worries about the horrible events in Africa in the 70's (and on) to rest.
I encountered calm, attentive staff who were happy to appease my slow-paced browsing and decision making. Although, the first moment I saw my ring, I just knew. -

As far as selection and atmosphere....amazing! By far and away one of the best stores in downtown LA when looking for engagement rings. Especially when looking for vintage rings. If you are looking in or around LA, this store will most likely have something you want.
Now for why I rated Single Stone so low. I believe sales is more about selling someone a feeling rather than a product. Car commercials are always shot in the wild or in some awesome place. Not because your practically going to drive your car off a cliff but rather that you could if you wanted to. It's the idea they plant inside of you and the feelings it creates.
I am not sure if it is because I look way younger than I am or what but I was always treated like a kid when I shopped here. In a way they would talk down to me like I was stupid which got irritating fast. Especially when I would bring my wife in...all of the sudden they would treat me the way they should....as if I had "grown up" or something. I have never heard someone groan more in my life when I tried to pay for my wife's engagement ring with a credit card. So much so that it became a huge guilt trip. You would think for such a large purchase there would be gratitude....but all I heard the entire time was her talking about how much the credit card charges for them would be blah blah blah. The complaining only got louder when she found out it was with an American Express card. I am sorry but no one buying a ring should EVER feel guilty! It's one of biggest/happiest decisions of your life and your going to make the customer feel guilty? Really? I wish my experience was like everyone else on yelp but it left sort of a bitter taste in my mouth. Not to mention when ever we would take it in to be resized or get the diamond tightened, they would NEVER call to say when it was ready. Really frustrating. Almost like they want your business but once they have it....who cares?
I am not someone who complains about a lot of places. Just check my other Yelp ratings. Typically I never leave negative feedback but when you get uncomfortable about going into a store you did business with....I think it's a really bad sign of customer appreciation. And who knows....maybe my whole ordeal was a rare thing for Single Stone. Maybe I am way off base with what I am saying. I hope I am and I hope if you are reading this that your experience is amazing! Because it should be!
One last thing....expect to spend way more on bands here than anywhere else. It was the only store I went to where the diamond BARELY cost more than the band. It's all quality....but just expect that going in.Comment from ari m. of Single Stone 2/22/2011

If you're looking for vintage or antique engagement rings or reproductions Ari is your man!
I highly suggest making an appointment on a Saturday and just browse all of their gorgeous rings and antique diamonds! The settings are absolutely perfect as if made by magical elves and Ari has a very good sense of humor and is a total doll. For the quality of work the price is very much worth every penny. -

So heavenly! We're from San Diego and so I've been researching on-line since early January for jewelry stores in San Diego that specialize in vintage engagement rings, or at least carries a good amount...no luck! I must say that I only searched online though, we didn't actually go in person to any shops in San Diego. After searching endlessly on the Internet through google and visiting the shops' websites, I thought I would give Yelp a try! I'm so glad I did because as soon as I typed in vintage engagement rings on the search tab, Single Stone popped up. After reading the reviews and seeing the selection on their website, I was confident this place was it. I gave them a call, spoke to Heather and placed a couple of styles on hold. Getting an appointment on a Saturday was easy.
When we finally made the trip to downtown from San Diego, I had butterflies in my stomach, this was the moment I had been waiting for forever!!!! Ari and Heather were amazing. They began by showing us the styles I had selected from their website and also other styles. Ari gave us a mini tutorial about the history of vintage engagement rings, specifically art-deco from the 1920's era! He explained diamonds and how they are graded, especially the vintage cut diamonds. Even though I had already studied the 4 C's...I was impressed! Our budget was set but of course, when we saw what was within our range, my boyfriend wasn't satisfied and bumped it up without hesitation! He wanted BLING, which I truly truly appreciate, he's so kind, giving, unselfish, and only wants the best! Slowly we started narrowing down our selection. FINALLY! My boyfriend and I fell in love with a 1920's art deco platinum ring. The only alteration we made to the ring was to change out the center stone because of it's visible inclusion and sizing...the ring was a 5.5 and my ring size is a 6. Ari was a bit hesitant, and I don't blame him...as he didn't want to jeopardize the integrity of the ring, after all..this ring is over 80 yrs old! In the end, he budged and we selected a loose stone (same size, better quality). The adjustments took about two weeks but they were quick to call as soon as it was ready! We went back to SS two days later to pick-up! Heather was great and snapped a couple of pictures and emailed them to me right away! Overall, great experience, I absolutely love love love my engagement ring. It's so beautiful!!! I highly recommend SS and wish you the best in your search for a gorgeous vintage ring! -

I had a fantastic experience with Single Stone. I took my time and looked at many other shops in the Diamond District but I felt this store had the best selection of unique and high quality rings.
To give an idea of my mindset: I wanted an engagement ring but felt like diamond and other gem prices are inflated beyond reason. So I wanted to get a ring where the band itself had real craftsmanship and beauty.
The staff was extremely helpful and seemed to give honest and useful advice. I visited the shop several times and finally settled on a antique diamond ring that I really loved. However, my fiance wanted a ruby not a diamond. Single Stone was open to switching out the stones, but in this particular ring it was impossible to remove the stone without destroying the ring. Single Stone offered to replicate the ring exactly with a ruby inside. I was skeptical of how closely they would able to copy the original, but I was wrong. The final product was fantastic! Looking back I am even happier with my replica. The original would have had the wear an tear of several decades and my wife now has band new ring with the same style and elegance of the original. She has received countless compliments and even had a stranger try to buy off her on the street. We are extremely pleased with our whole experience. -

Definitely a Woohoo! As good as it gets! kind of place. My fiance and I visited several jewelers looking for an engagement ring. When we got to Single Stone, we knew that we had found the right place to buy. They had the largest selection of all the places we visited and the best quality pieces. Ari made us feel comfortable and earned our trust quickly. It was clear that he had a lot of experience and was extremely knowledgeable about vintage diamonds. He made helpful suggestions about what he thought would look good, but didn't pressure or try to upsell us. Ari helped us find the perfect ring for our taste and budget. We felt so good about the experience that we went back for my wedding ring. Ari took the time to answer all of our questions and made sure every detail (sizing, engraving, style, etc.) was perfect.

My fiance had been searching high and low for just the right Jeweler, but couldn't find an establishment that made her feel confident in their ability to create the kind of setting she had in mind. Not to mention she was looking for a very specific type of antique diamond. In short we needed someone with a very particular selection and style. So it was a great relief when she finally paid a visit to Patti at Single Stone. The experience was overwhelmingly positive and my fiance knew instantly that her search was over. Patti was extremely accommodating and made sure my fiance had all of her questions answered before leaving.
Single Stone was not only the friendliest establishment we visited, but also the most adept. Ari's work is peerless in its creative latitude and artistic finesse. Every other jeweler we had visited up until that point had been pressuring my fiance to compromise her design in order to accommodate their limited skill set. At the time we thought we were being unreasonable with our expectations, but Ari put those doubts to rest. He gave us everything we wanted and more when it came to her ring. He also helped explain the different properties of the metals to ensure that we were getting exactly what we wanted. We looked over pictures and rings from their collection so that he would understand what elements we liked best for the design of the setting, and pull from those to create a new and unique setting. The final product speaks for itself. It is EXQUISITE!
On top of that, my fiance wanted an Old Mine Cut diamond, which are notoriously difficult to select from, as there are no true guidelines for their cutting styles and it's all a matter of personal preference. Single Stone was able to take our budget and present a wide variety of OMCs (and also antique cushions and Old European Cuts), from which my fiance was happily able to find her perfect diamond.
Now, I can't end this testimony without detailing the particulars of my "proposal" and how team Single Stone helped keep said proposal a complete surprise. Now, as you can tell, my fiance was well aware that a proposal was in the mail. I mean, she picked out the Jeweler and the stone. So, on the day we went to pay and place the order at Single Stone, I made sure to bring her along, because I had a plan. Maybe the proposal wouldn't be a surprise in and of itself, but at least I could control the TIMING of the proposal, and in doing so, make the moment I popped the question a surprise. And this is where Ari and Patti came in. While we were there placing the order at Single Stone, Ari made sure to inflate the timeline for completing the ring, which was clutch because Valentine's Day was coming up, and I didn't want my fiance to suspect the holiday as my target proposal day (even though it was). So Ari made sure to verbalize within her range of hearing that the ring wouldn't be ready until March. My fiance was sad, but she understood.
Perfect. My Valentine's Day proposal surprise might still work out.
But, as the weeks went by, my fiance somehow persuaded herself that the ring might be ready early and in time for the holiday. Damn. This would not do. I wanted to surprise her with plane tickets Valentine's Day weekend, and we never fly anywhere... so if she at all suspected that the ring could be ready, she would immediately convince herself that it was ready (she is very suspicious by nature, so I could afford no margin of doubt).
I had to regroup and come up with an additional strategy to prevail upon her once and for all that the ring could NOT possibly be done before Valentine's Day. So, I picked up the ring on the 11th of February, and while I was at Single Stone, Patti offered to call my fiance and relay to her that Ari was still working on her ring and that "no" it would not be ready anytime soon. Again, my fiance was very sad, but she understood that these things take time and can't be rushed etc etc. I was so psyched. Essentially, Patti single-handedly insured that my proposal would be a surprise. And it was! My fiance didn't suspect a thing when I got down on one knee. So thank you Patti and Ari for being awesome and making that moment the surprise of a lifetime! It was the perfect proposal! -

I can't say enough great things about Single Stone. I've been to both the downtown and Mission Street locations and I feel like a kid in a candy store at both.
When my fiance and I started looking for rings, I had 2 things in mind...I wanted yellow gold and I wanted it to be really unique. That wasn't exactly very much guidance and let me tell you, run of the mill jewelers can't do anything with that information. We went to jewelery store after jewelry store and nobody even came close. Then, we went to Single Stone downtown, and it was as if the clouds parted and the angels sang. The compliments I get on my ring are pretty much daily, and the stacking possibilities are endless. And every time we go to the store, we are treated like family and leave feeling so good. As my fiance says, it's so nice to have your jeweler on speed dial and know that you will always get exactly what you want!!! -

My fiance and I had been shopping for a vintage (or at very least, vintage-inspired) engagement ring for two months without success until we came across Single Stone via http://1stdibs.com. After corresponding with Ari via email about specific rings we'd seen on the company website), we made an appointment to stop on by the shop and try the rings on in person. It was a pleasure to meet Ari and Patty as both were patient, attentive, and not the least bit pushy. And what an UBER-pleasure to be able to try on such beautiful pieces of jewelry! We actually found "the one" this morning *fist-pump* and the ring is being fitted this very moment. I can't wait to sport my new bling, and am grateful to Ari and Patty for helping me find the most important and beautiful piece of jewelry I will ever have the pleasure of owning. If you're in the market for an engagement ring (or any fine jewelry for that matter), I highly recommend Single Stone. The selection is bananas :)

Single Stone is so much more than just a jewelry store. From the minute you walk in, you can feel the wonderful atmosphere in the elegant boutique. From the minute you talk to Ari, Patti, and Heather, you just know you are in good hands. Ari is absolutely brilliant. He has an exquisite taste for beauty and quality, and he is unrivaled when it comes to antique and custom pieces. He pays close attention and takes great pride in his work. We are usually very meticulous about everything we do, and this purchase was so meaningful and important to us that we still can't believe how easy it was to let go and hand everything over to Ari and just know it would turn out magnificent. And sure enough, he made us the most beautiful ring imaginable. During the process of finding the perfect piece, he offered insightful input, while listening and applying everything we wanted. His attention to detail was much appreciated. He is honest and straight forward, and he cares about what is best for you. Patti is wonderfully kind and sweet, and she made us feel so at home and comfortable through the entire process. Heather's perky personality and eagerness to help was simply fabulous. All in all, we couldn't have asked for a better experience!
