Review from Heather S.
Portland, OR
I've been allergic to dogs, cats, guinea pigs, horses, pollen, mold, dust, grasses, and trees for years -- never terrible -- and then I moved to Massachusetts and, in a year, developed severe allergies (runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing constantly) and allergic asthma (tight chest and wheezing) due to the high pollen count and an unfortunate adventure with a cat from renters of yesteryear.
I could barely walk upstairs without panting, (not sexy), was prescribed 3 asthma medications, plus Claritin, was taking tons of herbal remedies, and using the nasal cleansing pot thing (what I call the Snoot Pot) every day, and was going through -- I kid you not! -- 3 boxes of kleenex per week!
I hadn't been to the gym in ages because I couldn't breathe, and didn't begin to have the energy. If you have allergies, you know how they deplete your energy. I was tired all the time!
Then, I moved to Portland, (for the lesser pollen and the quality of life), and thankfully, due to Yelp, I found Andrea Fisk at Singing Bird Acupuncture.
I had heard acupuncture is approved by the Mayo Clinic and the American Lung Association as a treatment of choice for allergies and asthma, but I didn't think it would change much, and I was worried about those needles...
Little did I know I didn't have to be with Andrea. Needle-worry no more!
Andrea is a phenomenal acupuncturist.
She's smart, knowledgeable, gentle, kind, intuitive, and thorough. She treats everyone as an individual, but explains the interconnectedness of the body and the Chinese Medicine system, which I love. She doesn't eschew traditional (western medicine), and integrates it with eastern practices. She's practical, funny, and considerate, and I feel welcomed every time I go to her office.
So, I've gone 7 times now for acupuncture and Chinese herbs and I'm a different person! I'm barely allergic!
I can now go to the gym without my Albuterol inhaler. I can walk up and down stairs, or run down the street with my dogs! I no longer have watery eyes or a runny nose. I rarely sneeze. I have boxes of kleenex I don't use! And, my asthma is nearly gone. I went off most of my meds, and my pulmonary doctor told me I was ready to go off all of them!
I'm so much better, it's hard to believe I'm still me! I'm me but better!
And, after acupuncture, I also get this incredible feeling of integration emotionally and physically. It's profoundly amazing.
Andrea's Office Manager Extraordinaire, Terrisa, is a whiz at getting insurance companies to offer up the best of their wares so you pay less for more, and she remembers who you are, and what you need, and is efficient and funny, knowledgeable and kind.
Warmth and friendliness combined with efficient care really makes a difference. And, that's the thing: you can have treatment without care, and care without treatment, but Andrea and Terrisa offer CARE WITH TREATMENT.
My life is profoundly different thanks to Singing Bird Acupuncture (really, Andrea and Terissa), and I can't recommend them highly enough to you.Listed in: Portland for Newbies

Andrea convinced me that there WAS something I could do about my allergies. I told her I'd taken prescriptions since I was young, and most of those did little. Being allergic to pollens, most pollens, you know trees, grasses, flowers. I've grown used to living with the runny nose, itchy eyes and scratchy throat. Always dreading passing by the freshly mowed lawn and having my eyes and throat swell.
I told Andrea that I'd try anything she could throw at me. So she did. She started by saying it wasn't going to be easy, I think she actually called it "work." Which is only somewhat correct. A few treatments on her table and battery of herbs, a recommended LOCAL allergy aid, and a few other home tricks to do daily and I feel better than I have in any allergy season I can remember. I do mean ANY! I had to give it a couple test runs, but I don't ever remember being able to go down to the river and not suffer from the Cotton Woods.
She knows what she's doing. Andrea is very precise and communicates very effectively.
I'm a new patient and look forward to my future visits, when allergies don't have to be our focus.
A truly sincere Thank You. -

For years, I'd been keeping the idea of trying acupuncture in my back pocket, something to hold on to if I couldn't progress any further with traditional Western medical treatment for my progressive neuropathy/neuritis and other debilitating symptoms stemming from Sjogren's Syndrome. I was drawn to Andrea Fisk after noting her experience at The Chicago Institute of Neuroresearch and Neurosurgery; it gave me great hope.
I have been seeing Fisk for over 7 months now, and I have had remarkable results from a combination of acupuncture, moxibustion and Chinese herbs I take in as an herbal tea daily. I have far less pain in my feet and hands; my energy is the best it has been in years, which is saying something for a busy Mom. I was able to work in my local school district this year, and recently became a Zumba fitness instructor, something I didn't think was possible.
If you are looking for an Acupuncturist to partner with, I couldn't recommend Singing Bird Acupuncture more. I have referred many friends to Andrea, and she has treated my kids for insomnia and digestive problems as well. She is kind, thoughtful and extremely knowledgeable. -

Andrea Fisk rocks the acupuncture house. I've been seeing her for about 5 months and each time I go in I remember why I decided to come back. She's kind, super knowledgeable, gentle, funny (not like ha-ha laugh at you funny, like good disposition funny), and has a ton of experience.
I picked Andrea Fisk at Singing Bird off of the internet and couldn't be happier. I'd give her 5+ stars if I could. -
