Last night we had our company holiday party at Sing Sing.

The venue had been chosen by someone else in the company and after that the planning was handed over to me. The catering was coordinated through the Denver Chop House banquet staff who did a great job fielding questions and helping me plan for our group.

When I arrived to confirm everything was in order, the staff did a great job of making sure I was aware that every detail had been attended to. The appetizers, dinner buffet and desserts were executed on time and well organized. There was plenty of everything for everyone and the food was great.

All the staff was friendly, and on top of refills on drinks and clearing tables. No one had a single complaint.

I can only comment on the first 20 minutes of the piano players as I ducked out early but I'm told they were funny and great about taking requests.

    Well done Sing Sing!

"And the piano sounds like a carnival. And the microphone smells like a beer. And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar. And say 'Man, what are you doing here!'"

Implicit in Billy Joel's iconic lyrics is that actually, piano bars kind of suck. Think about it. What WAS someone with actual talent doing there!?

Okay, dueling pianos are not my thing. I actually went to one of the original dueling piano bars in Dallas and while I sort of almost respect what they're trying to do, I'm still convinced that for the most part, places like this exist because the intoxicated Al Bundy's of the world have poor taste in music, and in bars.

But maybe that's too mean. And actually, if dueling pianos are your thing, go here. The staff is friendly and professional. The place is clean and comfortable. The homemade beer (they make their own beer for some reason) is, all things considered, surprisingly good. But it's still a dueling piano bar.

Went to a birthday celebration at this dualing piano bar and had a blast. The bucket drinks were good but I would ask for less ice next time. The pizza looked scrumptious, though, I didn't eat any and the wings were oh...my...universe. We actually sent the spinach artichoke dip back because it didn't seem to be done.

I would suggest, if you are going to enjoy the dualing piano scene, go early. After about 9p, it's crowded, full of drunk people chatting, laughing, and doing everything else except giving any real attention to the pianist and the music.  The system isn't of a high enough quality to drown out everything else and deliver great sound which is also a good reason to go early if you want to enjoy that part of your visit.

The pianist have a lot of musical knowledge, though, they didn't know Erotic City by Prince and they didn't know Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles. They did know Gin n' Juice by Snoop Dogg though and, no, that was not my song request. :P

    Parking sucks.

    Mayyyyybeee it was....

-the outrageously priced drinks [$11 for one!]
    -$10 cover charge
    -the mediocre piano players

    or

-the insane crowd, all there for their  birthdays or bachelorette parties...

    but meh.
    i've had way better.

I agree with other reviews -- most patrons at Sing Sing are pretty wasted or are actively imbibing.  It's fun and funny to hear musicians bang out time-honored favorites while young women grind to classics that were popular before they were born, ie Wild Thing, Brown Eyed Girl, Rocket Man, Pretty Woman... You probably need to be fueled by alcohol to get up and dance to some of the music. All I could think is that these guys must be frustrated songwriters (and I say songwriters because they did not have the best voices) stuck playing to drunken crowds for tips to pay the bills while they pursue their true musical passions in their free time.

We went here for a birthday party with about 20 other people. There were two other clusters of tables celebrating birthdays so this is definitely a spot that is popular for a group of people. The pianists were journeymen musicians pounding out what sounded like rehearsed ad-libs, mash-ups and "improvised" lyrics that they'd performed a million times before. The last time we came here, K spent about $25 in pre-tipping requests to get the performers to play a Dean Martin song that never got played. This time we asked them to play happy birthday to our guest of honor adding only about $3 with the request card. We were there for a couple of hours before I had to pressure the performers to call out to the birthday girl before the entire party left to get to our next destination. Service was decent but this is not a place I'd visit again on my own.

Disclaimer:  I was already pretty schnockered by the time we got to Sing Sing.  (This seems to be a common theme 'round here.)

Disclosure:  I just used the word schnockered, so there may be some lingering effects as I write this.

But man, that was a good time.  Who doesn't love drunkenly belting out Journey with 100 strangers?

They had some funny 'remixes', too.  And they didn't play all the same old Karaoke usuals... there was a good, eclectic mix of songs.  We did the Time Warp.  (Again.)

And some guy really rocked the Casio.  (I think it's actually a "Key-Tar")

The "Buckets" were fun to share.  I have literally no idea what was in it except for lots of liquor, cherries, limes and some fruity flavorings. With 5 huge straws to share.  Lesson Learned:  Share.

The place was packed on a Friday night, a few Bachelorette parties and birthdays (our partaaaay included) but service was friendly and abundant.

Including the "bathroom attendant" who, really, I thought was a homeless woman who snuck in to beg for "tips."  What's up with that??

For the $5 cover, it's a bargain and an entertaining evening.

This may very well be my personal hell in Denver.  Show tunes?  Blah!  Campy humor?  Spare me!  Too many girls acting like whores before they get married picking the most un-original songs ever for the people playing piano to play for them?  Run!

I went there for a friend's bday and I tried...I really tried to keep an open mind.  Some moments were borderline funny, but after the first hour whatever passed as "humor" wore very thin for me.  The service was also really slow and it was IMPOSSIBLE to have a conversation with the person sitting next to you.

If I never go back it will be too soon.

If you find yourself on a Wednesday night craving some 21+ liquid happiness for cheap than I highly recommend Sing Sing.  There is no cover on Wednesday and Thursdays.  They offer $1 pints (that's right, PINTS) of awesome beer and $2 well drinks.  We managed to end the night for $15 for three people.  (Three people who were not taking it easy either...)  Thursdays are also Ladies Night  (where we counted at the least six different drunken bachelorette parties - hint hint, wink wink all you single dudes).

As for the piano part of the "piano bar", it is pretty much what you'd expect.   You'll hear Piano Man and Sweet Caroline until your ears bleed.  The guys are talented and, most importantly, embarrassingly raunchy.  You usually have to tip with your song in order to hear it, but apparently they will simply take your money and throw away your request sheet if you request songs or artists too obscure (which happened to us multiple times).  Review points lost there.

No clue what it's like there on the weekends, but fun time during the week.

A fun to place to go every now and then, probably for special occasions.

When I went I got in on a student special which included a waived cover and a few free appetizers. The drink prices were pretty reasonable. The only serve their own beer, but it's damn good stuff and they have every kind of beer you can think of. They also sell hard stuff, including a gimmicky "punch" kind of drink they give you in plastic bucket with ice and some straws.

The piano players were a great time, and worked the crowd well. They know a lot of stuff, so almost anything you request they can do. It was rowdy as hell when I was there, but it was also a blast.

The thing to take away, however, is that this place is an expensive night out. You've got the cover, any food, drinks, and tips for the players if you want your song played (if you don't give them at least like, $2, they won't play your song.)

So, go once to check it out and have a fun night but don't make it a regular thing if you don't like spending a lot of money.

Duuuuuuude. This place is my worst nightmare.

Let me preface this by saying that yes, I AM a chick. And a chick that sings karaoke (when appropriately poopfaced), no less.

Sing Sing is-- at best-- annoying. At worst, it's an "ohmygawd, I'd scratch a Cougar's eyes out with my bare claws to escape with my sanity intact" moment come to life.

I sing better drunk than these guys do sober. And I'll do it for less money. True, I can't play the piano... but I promise not to pimp my soul out for "tips" either. Want to take me up on it?

If you're an ex-sorority bachelorette (DeltaDeltaDelta can I helpya helpya helpya?) or a Cougar turning "29" (again), you may be in your sad, pathetic element here. Is that too judgemental? Sorry. The drinks are served way too slowly (and are far too spendy) for me to even catch an "it's worth it if you're drunk" buzz at this place. Bring your own flask or prepare to have your brain bleed out your eyeballs.

I have to start with telling you all the truth.....I have never been to Sing Sing sober.  In fact, I am kinda scared to go without having had a few beers.  The place is a piano bar so you need to shed your inhibitions, drinks do that for me.

Two guys with pianos facing one another rock the hell out of that place!  You give them requests (it helps when they come with a tip) and they will play pretty much anything you want.  Everyone around you will be singing along, and even if you are like me and can't carry a tune feel free to join in.

There is a cover sometimes and drinks are high like all downtown bars, but the fun outweighs the cost.

I've been to a couple piano bars before, and unfortunately this is the "worst" one I've been to.  If you're ever in Baltimore, definitely check out "Howl at the Moon."

Anyway, the drinks are more overpriced than most places in Denver.  The pianists are more "money hungry" than other piano bars I've seen, and generally don't seem to know all that many songs.  They seem to play the same songs and even their comedic schtick is similar from show to show.  Other piano bars will let you slap down a $5 and that's enough to get a song played, these guys skip over requests without even so much as playing a few notes even if you drop a $10.  And instead of allowing people to throw $1 bills down (and let the accumulate) to change songs, they just laugh and ask for more money.

So this place gets expensive FAST.  And all three times I've been, the service has been subpar at best, unfortunately.  I really enjoy piano bars, but I'm really not going to Sing Sing unless someone specifically asks me to and has some very compelling reasons.

I am a VERY patient guy but an hour to get a beer is just ridiculous... hell I even paid and tipped the guy up front, pretty fat I might add and he still asked for his money upon delivery. I about threw him over that little banister thing. The only reason I needed a beer is because it was bro central in there on that night.... popped collars and all. Not to mention, what is with all of the ridiculous bachelorette parties there? No, I don't want to see your whale of a friend prancing around in practically nothing trying to get me to do something dumb... well, I might if I was wasted but considering the track record, it might take about 15 hours.

I am still trying to figure out why this place is a staple in Denver... Next time my friends drag me down there, I'm making a break for Scruffy Murphy's. At least I know there aren't a bunch of popped collar idiots floating around bragging about their job at the gym and getting drunk off of one beer trying to fight the cops escorting them out.

Leave Sing Sing to the lonely house wives club, the cougars and the college kids who want to hook up with them...

Super fun! This is a great place for group events. There were birthday groups, bachelorette parties, even a vasectomy party going on.
In general this is not someplace I would venture to by myself, but with a group of friends it is the best thing to do on a weekend.
Dueling pianos, karaoke on a major scale, competitive song bidding wars...it was major fun on the simplest scale. The cover seemed a bit steep for happy hour, but the drinks were beyond reasonable and the food was just plain cheap. I had 2 microbrews, an order of hot wings and sicilian peperoni rolls all for just under $20. So with the cover, parking and tip, I spent a night on the town, downtown for $40.
    How often does that happen?
    Truly entertaining.

Boy... where to even begin with this review?

In my personal vision of hell, this is the only bar that would be open.

The TVs in hell would only play The View, Oprah, and Judge Judy.

The only movies would be romantic comedies.

The only food you could eat in hell would be tea cakes and little salads.

And the only bar would be Sing Sing.

It's so miserable in there. Everywhere I turn is another brides maid with some CRRRRAZY penis hat, putting stickers on everyone who walks by, or some housewife having the time of her life with her girlfriends while the two middle aged bald guys on stage replace the lyrics of classic american songs with fart jokes.

Everyone is acting drunk after knocking back 15 capri suns that are served in fish bowls, and then to top it off, it's all expensive!

Really, if you can't tell, I hate this place. It actually is giving me heart burn just thinking about it.

I LOVE dueling piano bars.  I LOVE watching drunk bachelorette parties do silly stupid stuff.  But there is something about Sing Sing that annoys me.

Used to be dueling pianists, and good ones at that.  At some points, they have an entire band doing some really lame songs.  But there is something about the cattle herding exercise of getting 10+ bachelorettes up on stage at a time where I realized that this just wasn't as cool as it used to be (or maybe I am getting too old?)

Also, it used to be a lot more "R" rated, not for the politically correct.  It was loud, rude, and fun.  People were drunk, singing (or slurring along) with some great songs and everyone is happy.  Now it's a PG-13 place that seems more about routing the bachelorette parties thru than really having a good time.

When we got there, it was 10pm, and already full.  So, clearly not everyone agrees with this review.  If you haven't seen the dueling piano thing, try it.  If you have a special occasion, consider it.  Otherwise, avoid it.

I like Sing Sing because it is a lot different than just going down to your local watering hole and listening to the jukebox. You can tip the guys who sing to you all night and I enjoy when rival school group outbid each other for their school song. It is amusing. They really do know a ton of tunes! I would not go here every weekend but I could come here a few times a year. It makes for a fun night if you have someone in your group who is not drinking!

After feasting at Vesta Dipping Grill on 11/27/07, I was ready to hit the town.  One of the associates at Vesta pointed me toward Sing Sing.

I walked in to a rousing rendition of the 'camel-toe' song, while birthday girl Kellan was being plastered with bumper stickers by one of the musicians.

They played mostly songs of the 70s and 80s and balked at my request for MCR, but obliged my petition for Sublime.

The bartender looked like a young John Belushi.  Put him in a toga, and you have Animal House revisited.

Right before I left, I sent a drink over to the two birthday girls in the house, Kellan and Mya.  They came over and thanked me with a birthday kiss.

I asked to get a picture with them, and someone in Kellan's party came over and captured the moment.  I gave her my business card, so they could send me the picture.

Well, here it is, months later, and still no picture?

    What's Up With That, Kellan???

Seldom do you see a place that advertises a place to celebrate "positive test results" (from what tests?) and "divorce."
The drinks were pretty good and the crowd was a lot of fun.  The pianists/entertainers were fun and generally kind of lewd (which I don't really mind but I think others might).  They were a little money hungry, so tips are definitely a way to sway them to play what you want.  They also offer the option to out-bid the person who tipped and requested a certain song to stop it.
I was kind of disappointed because it says "dueling pianos" and my idea of dueling pianos didn't really match up.  I thought of more of a lounge competition rather than a duet.

So I was already pretty intoxicated by the time I arrived at Sing Sing... in turn, this review may be overinflated.

I still can't really discount the amount of fun i had here. There was a cover, but you can get in for free with a military ID, or each military ID can get in two people.

The bar is colocated with a brewery so all of the beer is very tasty.

Extremely crowded on a Saturday night but we were still able to get a table up front.

The crowd is a LOT of bachelorette parties, birthdays, etc. And they are ALL drunk. I danced the night away with a bachelorette party-goer who couldn't see straight. I should say there's not really a dance floor, but the whole place has kind of an "everything goes" feel.

    I'd definitely go back.

Yes yes let's embarrass our buddy on his birthday.  Ever port has it's wench and every city has it's own dueling piano bar.  The key to this place is alcohol.  The more you drink, the funnier it becomes.  As you drink more beer, you want to make a total "A" of yourself or even better yet your birthday buddy.

In comparison to other dueling piano bars that I've visited this felt a little too cozy.  By the time we left, you could feel thatthe air was saturated with everyone else's sweat.

Sing Sing is the bar to go to when you and your friends can't agree on a place to land.  It's got loud music.  It's got good draft beer.  It's got TONS of people.  Get there early if you want a front row seat.  After ten it starts getting rowdy and even the back bar starts to fill up.  I've had to settle for standing room only on many occasions.  But it's a good enough bar, I don't mind standing.

The cocktailers at Sing Sing even get involved and do a show once an hour, while the dueling piano players take requests.  If you staple a twenty to your song request sheet, you're more likely to hear it played before you leave!  I'd suggest getting to know the song "Squeezebox" by The Who before going to celebrate an anniversary or recent wedding, so you can sing along with the semi-offensive lyrics!

Another fun activity is to start a college fight song war.  The piano players know many fight songs, and it's surprising and entertaining to see how much someone will pay to hear the Rutgers or Notre Dame or School of Mines fight song.  No worries, if your school didn't have a fight song they'll make one up for you!

Definitely a fun place for those who aren't shy, and an entertaining place for those who like to sit back and watch the crowd.

I went to Sing Sing last night [Wednesday] with a group of friends.

They have a killer drink special, $1 beers, $2 mixed drinks and $3 shots.  The place is not as packed as it is on the weekend, so you get more entertainment to yourselves and get to listen to more of the songs you request.  I thought it was not going to be the same as the weekend crowd, but people still celebrate birthdays on Wednesdays and this place was a blast.

If you're looking for a mid-week place to let go, Sing Sing might be the right fit.

Meh. I came here for my bachelorette party- I had a good time with my friends but not because of Sing Sing really. I think I was initially turned off because a VERY drunk and weird woman took our picture outside and when she learned it was my bachelorette party, pulled down my shirt so that she could take some risque picture of me with my bra hanging out. Very, very odd. She also went back into the piano bar and would not leave us alone. Not the fault of Sing Sing, just bizarre in general.

Everyone besides myself had to pay an absurd cover- like $10 or something. That's kind of ridiculous considering we were all gonna drink, and with that money we paid cover with, we probably would have tipped the piano players. We sat down and got drinks- later someone came by with jello shots which we got, but were weird because the jello shot lady was seriously an independent contractor of jello shots. They were unaffiliated with the bar/Sing Sing, so they just let this girl walk around selling her own jello shots. Little weird.

Also, all the bachelorette-related things the pianists would do for people in the audience weren't actually funny or fun, but just plain embarrassing. We told them why we were there but they never bothered to call my name, so I guess we didn't give them enough money. Funny, I thought you were supposed to save the tip for AFTER you got something worth paying for, not before.

I want to give three stars because I did have a good time- but that was more due to my friends, not the location. I went to a piano bar in Disney World of all places that was much much MUCH better, though, so that seals the deal.

I am basing my review of Sing Sing on how I felt the people around me were enjoying the place and not on my own experience as I was not drinking and I'm just not that fun ;) Well I'm not very outgoing.  Anyway, the place was full of bachelorette and birthday parties.  Most of the place was seated with large groups.  I was her for a friends friends wife's sisters birthday, so I didn't know anyone.  Anyway, everywhere I looked people were having a blast.  From young guys to older women, everyone had smiles on their facing and was having a great time.  The piano playing was good. The singing was not great, but who cares, it's fun and entertaining.  Your not going to a concert here.

    TIP: Make reservations.

The key to enjoying piano bars, my friends? ALCOHOL.

Sing Sing with a few drinks in you is much more tolerable than none at all.

I had not been to a piano bar before so as I stepped into this place I half expected people sitting around sipping martinis. However, this place is quite the party. The 'by request' piano players were quite talented, and funny. This appears to be the destination for bachelorette parties and really women in generally, because the ratio was probably 70/30.

I had a good time and since I was visiting from the ever-so-pretentious Scottsdale it was a pleasure to go to a club that was just about fun entertainment.

I don't know if it's the timing or the crowd but there's nothing I absolutely love or like about this place, unless you want to see dumb women on their bachelorette party or someone turning 21.

This place is WAY over done.

Maybe this is just not my thing, but not only was I bored, I was annoyed.  I could barely hear over everyone loudly talking and, as people got more and more drunk, it just got worse.
Only did 2 stars because the birthday-girl in the group loved it so much that I couldn't say it was unbearable.

Ok...the only reason I'm giving a 4 & not a 5 star is because I never quite made it to the food portion of the evening.  This is one of the most fun places I've ever been.  It's really hard for me to relax & just have a good time, but after a couple of drinks and the GREAT songs...all you (ok, I) could do was singggg at the top of my lungs!  SO MUCH FUN!  It's my first dueling piano bar (warning: do not expect class...I did and was happily mistaken!)

I have another dueling piano bar night lined up for the end of June in Seattle...tune in later for a comparison update!!  Hope it's as good!!!  By the way...SAN FRANCISCO...WHAT'RE YOU DOIN????WHERE'S THE PIANO BAR??????????????????????????????

If you're of the variety that digs cover songs from the 80s/90s, enjoys bawdy humor and watching people get drunk off their ass and the hilarity that ensues... make haste to Sing Sing!

Drinks are a bit pricey, but you can get a bucket o' beverage for $12 for your entire table to sip from using individual straws.  If you arrive after 9pm, plan to be friendly yet aggressive as you try to procure a table for your party - the floor fills up fast, and the upper deck is packed too.  It's like trying to find a parking spot at the mall on Christmas Eve.

Once you are seated, however, sit back and enjoy the talent and hilarity on the center stage as two pianists duel it out, sing duets, and take requests to cover virtually any well-known song out there.  A tip of $10 or more accompanying your song request upps the odds it'll get sung for you.  Feel like singing?  Um, good luck.  Usually you need to tip the pianists $80 or more to get them to equip you with a hot mic... see, there's a reason they are employed there and not any random diva-wanna-be.

I have no clue as to food - I've only ever drank beverages there.

VERY fun environment if you like singing along, dancing a bit, and being generally entertained!

This place was horrific, horrendous, horrible, any variation of the word "horror" would be fitting.

We went to meet some friends who hadn't been to Sing Sing before but had heard about it and wanted to check it out. We walked in and had to pay a cover charge. We went over to the bar to get drinks and all they had was weird, crappy generic beer I had never heard of. The one I tried tasted like piss and I could feel myself making the "bitter beer face." Our friend bought 4 Jager bombs and it cost him a good $60 - so yeah, drinks were a little pricey.

The place was packed with people who were a lot more drunk than I was. Some douchebag tried to start a fight with my boyfriend and some drunk 40 year old bachelorette kept waving a giant inflatable penis in front of our faces.

Aside from the stupid people that were in there the music sucked. They played good songs, but the guys were horrible singers and one of them would do this weird falsetto for the female parts. It was really disturbing / disappointing. I've heard better versions of "Livin' on A Prayer" on the American Idol reject shows.

Ugh, overall I was NOT impressed with Sing Sing and I plan on staying as far away as possible from that douchebag filled, bad karaoke den. I've been to some awesome piano bars and this one doesn't even come close. Save your money, time and precious ears and stay away from Sing Sing.

Hmmm. Piano bar sober. Doesn't sound too appealing. Piano bar after a few drinks. This is nice. Piano bar drunk. Now we're talking. Yes, Sing Sing has all the elements that make piano bars cheesy, but that's also what makes them fun.

Ironically, my first Sing Sing experience was totally sober, and I loved it. I'm not really the kind of guy who hangs out in piano bars a lot, so you're not going to find me there on a random night, but it's a nice place if you're looking for a fun, unique, cheesy good time.

First off, let's start with the obviously, ladies--this place is for us!

Sing Sing is the place for the ideal Girls Night Out.  With at least two wickedly cute, approachable, charsmatic piano players--oh, who sing too and will touch your butt (ah!), Sing Sing is great for a birthday party or bachlorette party!  It's just plain fun.

Hope you like the 80s, because you'll be singing all night and hope you not too proud (to beg...wait, no) to dance on stage!

Sing Sing is interactive and fun.  And, although it mainly tailors to the 30+ crowd, it's a good time for anyone!

When I first went to this place, it would have gotten 5 stars. I love piano bars! I love fun! I love alcohol! And I still hold all those things very dear. BUT this is a place you visit verrry occasionally, not frequently. And why???

    - Really, you can make requests, but they pretty much play the same songs every time. The schtick is the same -- somewhat lewd piano comedy, if that description makes any sense.
    - They will cajole insanely drunk people to drop insanely large amounts of cash to play the songs they want, particularly rival school fight songs. And they start demanding more and more money to play what you want. It just becomes about who has more cash.
    - Just don't go if you have to drive. I was DD. This place is way more fun drunk.

Not to say I didn't have a good time -- I did, and my friend's brain fart relating to the song "Living on a Prayer" got it played (naturally, it's Bon Jovi, but he somehow replaced that with Bryan Adams on the request slip). I obnoxiously sang along to many, many of the songs, and couldn't help but be amused when my friend and his girlfriend head-banged right into each other durinig Bohemian Rhapsody. So yes...good times...just good times that need to be about a year apart.
