I seemed to have developed a slow leak in my coolant system. Took the car by the local shop used by the rest of the family. They said the radiator probably had a leak and the only way to check it was to pressurize the system which if there was a leak would make it undrivable. I was on my way out of town so they said bring it back when I got home.
I checked yelp and even though there was only one rating for Sim's, I chose to take a chance.
When I got there, Moses first did a visual in the parking lot, then put pressure on the system and let it hold the pressure for a while. No leaks. He checked the cap and said I needed a new one, $8. He checked their inventory and found they didn't have the size I needed so told me to pick up one at auto parts supply.  He topped off the system and charged me nothing.
You can't get any better than that!
As the previous commentor said, as a single female, it's nice not to be taken advantage of.

Had a big hole in my condenser(the radiator looking thing right in front of your radiator).  Therefore, all the freon-substitute leaked out and made the ozone mad.  Then, the car was really hot especially since it was residing in Hotlanta.  Took it to Sims.  We tried it out on recommendation from a car nut friend.

Next, I took the car to get a new condenser.  Thanks to the low price of $115 for a condenser, plus the standard labor rates, the price of freon-substitute, and the 10% discount (up to $25) from the website coupon, it cost me about $400 to put a new one in.  Slightly less than the $470 quoted to me by a friend's son's shop, and the condenser was less than the $130 found on http://Autozone.com.  Got a flat coming out of the shop, but since Discount Tire (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) fixes them for free that was no biggie.

A/C was cool as an ice cube for a couple of days, but then it petered out.  Took it back in and they found that they new condenser they had just put in was defective so they were putting a new one in at no cost.  But, then they noticed that some of the tracking dye was leaking out from around the seal in the compressor, so that should probably be replaced also.  Compressor + dryer + labor = 450, minus discount= $430 or so.  I hesitated about replacing the compressor, and they didn't force me to do it, but said that if I was going to keep the car for a while it would probably save the cost of the (fake)freon to just do it now and get it over with.  Plus, I like everything to be in working order to keep my wife cool :)

A/C still working now.  Clay Sims is the main office guy(and owning partner I would guess) at this location.  The main mechanic, Octavio, speaks Spanish fluently and English secondarily.  When I went in on Saturday morning he seemed competent and honest.  He even suggested that if I was mechanically inclined enough, I could maybe do the condenser myself.  I decided against that because it involves taking the motor mounts off and other stuff that would take me forever to do and I'd probably mess it up anyway.

Anyway....  Parts prices seem reasonable, labor price seems reasonable, crew is nice, work is done right, and if the part they put in was bad then they fix it up like they should.  I'll keep using them.

UPDATE:  I had to go back!!  The A/C quit, so I took it back in.  We found that the A/C connector was loose.  We cleaned it up a bit and plugged it back in, and good to go!  Also, I noticed that they had PRINTED MY REVIEW and had it on the table in the guest waiting area.  HAHA.  Hi Sims!

I had taken my car to Pep Boys after it overheated and had fluid splattered all over the inside of the front hood. They tested and found out it was a radiator leak and quoted me around $700 to replace it. A friend referred me to Sims Radiator, and I am SO glad they did! I took my car out there and they had it fixed in a day, and the price was less than half of what PB quoted, and a couple hundred $$$ less than some other shops I had called for quotes. The customer service and follow-through were excellent and they were very pleasant to work with. Since I am a single female, it is nice to feel that a car repair was handled with honesty and integrity! Thanks Sims!

History

Established in 1949

Sims Radiator is a part of Metro Atlanta's history! I
Clay Sims served a tour of Europe in the Army during WWII, settled in Atlanta and in 1949 rented a shop across the street from Decatur High School to open a radiator repair shop named aptly - Sims Radiator Service. His brother, Lamar Sims soon joined him and the two worked side by side for the next 35 years, along the way employing and training more repairmen, mechanics, drivers, and their own sons to join them in the business.
As they experienced success in their new career, they moved into a larger shop across the street from the Decatur train station. Two of Clay's sons, Alan and Clay, Jr., still head up the operation. Over the years the company has employed 16 different family members, mostly as summer vacation helpers.
Sims Radiator Service currently has 5 locations and employs 24 people, making us the largest radiator shop business in the Atlanta area.
