I feel like I now know what a future heroin addict feels after the first hit. Sure, it's wrong, but it feels sooo good.
I needed a bit of color and I wasn't about to put my pasty Irish skin at risk with some crazy tanning bed. After the occasional traumatic attempt with at-home self tanners, I decided to try out a professional spraytan. After reading the reviews here and finding a 50% off coupon on Simply Sun's website, I was sold.
I stopped in close to their closing time with no appointment and I was the only client in there. Troy took great care of me and was very thorough in his explanation as to how not to get all streaky. While the actual experience of the spraytan itself isn't all that enjoyable, the after effects are quite lovely. Well, once the obvious tanner smell wears off, which took about 2 days for me.
Will I be back? Tough call. I get to the point where I learn to embrace my paleness so I can't see this being a regular occurrence (plus I don't want to be orange), but like that future heroin addict, there's really no telling how far I'll slide into tanning addiction.
I've got paler skin than many, but I'm able to get a decent tan at salons. I got the package for the Ultra Tans, and it was mediocre. Definitely had faster, darker results at other salons.
When I asked the guy at the front desk if I could try a different type of machine, since I've had far better results at other places and thought it could be the type of equipment, he proceeded to lecture me about how I should have planned more tanning visits in advance. Wow, thanks for the customer appreciation.
I get good tans elsewhere. If I wanted to tan 20 times a month as Mr. Front Desk guy encouraged, I'd just lay out on my porch. But I'm trying to be efficient. Between the lack of tan (I've gone 5 times now to use my prepaid package, still a mediocre tan that I could get with two trips to Super Bodies), and the attitude, I will not be going back. If I'm giving you my money, I'd like a little service, maybe some basic manners. Or just a different machine that actually worked.
I used to say I would never go tanning. I associated tanning salons with orange, leather-skinned, cancer-prone people. Besides, if I wanted to look tan, all I had to do was hang outside for a few hours. No biggie. Then I decided to get married and buy a fancy ivory dress and hire an awesome photographer...and as the big day draws ever closer, I'm realizing that my skin is only half a shade darker than my dress and, well, that won't look so great in photographs. And http://LeahandMark.com is all about the photographs.
With my hectic grad-school life these days, I have NO time to lounge around outside slowly getting tan. And I don't want tan lines. And I hate the smell of those messy tanning lotions that leave brown streaks all over me.
Enter: Simply Sun Tanning Salon. I just had my first visit and I'm quite pleased with the results. I'm not gonna turn into a tanning junkie, but I definitely enjoyed my visit. I chose the Ultra bed, with 0% UVB, so I feel better about soaking up the fake rays. I'm more tan than I expected to be after just 8 minutes, and the 20% student discount allowed me to splurge on the Ultra upgrade. Woohoo! Now I feel good about all those photographs coming up... and about walking around in a bikini for the honeymoon!
Troy offers plentiful options to get the glowing, bronzed body everybody wants for the summer.
I have been going to Simply Sun for a few years now and Troy and his staff takes good care of me. My fair skin and blond hair don't lend to the best tan but by the time I'm leaving for the beach I have a great base tan so I don't burn to a crisp.
Simply Sun has a couple different bed options and I typically choose the standup 7-minute bed. I can get in and get out and don't feel like I have wasted my entire day laying in a bed to get some sun.
Join his email list and become a friend on Facebook and he sends out regular monthly specials that are always appreciated. He has a couple great half-price walk-in cash deals from 11am to 3pm Mon- Thurs. which is a plus when you are looking for a nice tan before an upcoming trip.
Go see him and get started on your summer tan!
great tanning salon. Troy rocks! He is nice and helpful! I got the spray tan and its great! I will definitely go back.
On a fellow Yelper, Lori S's glowing review, I decided to try sunless tanning before my trip to Miami. I was not disappointed in the results. As a matter of fact, no one noticed I got this sunless tan, but complimented me on my pretty skin. Troy does give great directions on how to get the best results. Here are my tips & observations to the virgin sunless tanners.
1. Try it out once before your major event, about 2 weeks prior. It gives a dark color and if you want just a slight glow, you might be a little surprised.
2. Before going, exfoliate your body & face. Do not moisturize.
3. Wear clothes you won't mind getting a little color on them. Let's face it, you are getting sprayed with dark color all over your body. You are going to get stains on your clothes when you put them back on. Everything comes out in the wash, so don't worry.
4. There is a distinct smell to the spray that lasts about a day. If you've tried self tanners before (like Jergens lotion), you'll recognize it.
5. Make sure all your hair is covered with the cap Troy gives you.
6. Take Troy's instructions about the barrier cream very very seriously. He will tell you to take your time applying it on various parts of your body that should stay clear of the spray.
7. Do not shower for at least 8 hours afterwards. Don't be alarmed when color comes off in the shower, even 8 hours afterwards.
This place is great! Troy is so nice and helpful. They have a variety of beds, and the place is very nice and clean. I use the Magic spray booth, and they provide all the amenities and make sure you know what you're doing before you start.
