Simple Hair

First time coming to Simple Hair and I'm happy to say I found my hair place. It was super easy to make an appointment by phone, and there was a lot of availability even on weekends. I'd highly recommend making an appointment, as it was a full house when I visited.

I got a hair cut by Kimmy and she did a wonderful job framing my face and listening to my wants while providing suggestions on what would best suit my face and hair type. She was very friendly and knowledgeable! I paid $35 for a cut including layers and curtain bangs! Great price!

I've been coming here for around 2-3 years, and I've never been disappointed! I always requested Kim since I first started coming, and she's never let me down once in the many times that I've gone to Simple Hair. The salon itself is pretty big and always has a lot of stylists working. They always have music playing in the background to create a comfy vibe for all clients coming in.

When you first walk in, you are asked to put your name and phone number on a sign-in sheet regardless of an appointment. I recommend making an appointment over the phone beforehand because it gets pretty busy on random days!

I have thick, medium-course hair, so my main goal is to get it trimmed and thinned out each time I go. My hair tends to get frizzy when it gets too thick, and it grows fast enough for me to go to Simple Hair around 3-4 times a year. Kim has always been so friendly and chatty while she cuts my hair, and she always does a great job! Every visit, I ask for her input on how short I should trim my curtain bangs or how much I should trim my hair length before it gets too short, and she always seems to know what look I'm going for. Since I've been going for so long, she knows that I'm pretty consistent in the style that I want.

I've heard that some hair stylists like to curl their clients' hair to hide some of the mistakes they might have made in the haircut, but Kim actually straightens my hair at the end of the appointment so she could fix any unevenness in my hair. The whole process, including hair wash and payment at the end, takes around 40 minutes. Never choosing another hair salon!

My hair was in need of help. Last time I got a haircut was over a 1 yr ago, and my bleached ends were DRY and frizzy. Holly was my hairstylist, and she did a wonderful job! Very meticulous! She spent the time to ask me what I wanted, made recommendations, and made adjustments throughout the process. I could tell she cared and had many years of experience!

Style I opted for: Face framing curtain bangs, many layers, below shoulder length (enough to cut off the dead ends).

Second time coming. Definitely recommend making an appointment ahead of time. Can be done by the phone. They are closed on Tuesdays. I got my hair colored both times and oddly enough by the exact person 4 years apart. I didn't request anyone.

Located in a plaza with plenty of parking. The decor is nicer than my regular salon nearby. I felt like all the ladies here took their time with their clients. Trang did my hair both times - She made great recommendations but also didn't pressure me into anything.

I had no bleach highlights both times- this time including a hair cut.

It is a bit far for me but worth it for hair coloring.

An amazing find for women's hair!

I was looking for a haircut place that would do a cut and wash at a reasonable price. I stumbled upon this place upon searching by reviews when I was in the area, and this was highly recommended. Personally, I very very rarely get my hair cut professionally in the US as I think it's overpriced and they don't do a good job, so I was a bit apprehensive.

However, this place impressed me. I came in after making an appointment and they immediately took me in. I told my lady, named Holly, that I wanted long medium layers, with a U shape in the back. She took in my direction immediately and did exactly what I was looking for. She also asked if I had washed my hair, and I said yes but would still like a shampoo. She worked so swiftly that the whole cut and wash took no more than 30 min. While she dried my hair, I asked for a blow out which she was so accommodating to also add on. She was also super nice and had good conversation with me throughout the time.

Overall, the value for the haircut was above and beyond what I expected given the level of quality and care that you receive here. The price was only $45 total (for my medium long hair), which included wash, cut, and style! This place exceeded my expectations, and Holly was amazing to work with!

Vy fixed my hair not once but twice. First I came in with a very orangey brown bleach job that she made so pretty, dimensional and ASHY. Today she revived my entire look but fixing my horribly overgrown roots (my bad) and gave me a haircut and bleached some of my black hair to platinum IN ONE SESSION. And my hair is so soft and most importantly- not melting off my head.
You can tell Vy cares a great deal about her work and her craft. She explains what she's doing during the bleaching process, carefully highlights certain pieces of hair and not others, and she also checks in to see if what she plans to do works for you. Not only is her work and the work of the other stylists at Simple Hair great, it's also super affordable compared to other salons in the area. I live in Oakland and I'll keep on coming back!

Kim did a great job with my hair. I booked an appointment with Kim and as soon as I came in she was ready to cut my hair (no waiting time at all).

She tucked my hoodie in so that it doesn't create an uneven balance when she cuts my hair (signs of a great hair stylist). She layered my hair and constantly checked in with me making sure I was happy with the look. She was able to cut my hair so that it framed my face nicely. My hair looks healthy again.
I trust Kim's instinct and I will definitely be back.

I love this place!!! I've been getting my japanese hair straightening by them this past year and they have courtesly squeezed me into an appointment both times. They are all so kind and really work in a team to get you out soon as the process is pretty lengthy. Their treatment of only doing "new growth" perms and not perming on bleached hair has really saved my once fried and unhealthy hair! I appreciate their integrity and honesty in their business and I am so happy I found them! Yay!!

Update: Someone called me (Vy) and they took accountability and apologized for the unfortunate experience.

I first went to Simple Hair in July of 2023 for a perm. I had completely straight, virgin hair, and I showed the stylists a photo of what I was hoping to get - long, wavy, voluminous curls. After speaking with the owner (I think) she convinced me to get tighter smaller curls, and eventually they'd loosen up into my desired style. Due to my hair being virgin, bigger curls right off the bat wouldn't stay very long. So, I trusted her and let her do her thing!

The results were great! At first I was shocked at how curly my hair was, but as she said, in 2-3 months, it loosened up and styling my hair every day for work was SO EASY! Also, the experience was great. The first woman I had in July was comforting, knowledgable, funny, and gentle. She took her time, answered all of my questions, even recommended products to me and taught me how to best comb and put mousse in my hair. She even walked me around to the other stylists to show them my hair, which made me feel so happy and glad it turned out nicely. The whole process only took 1.5 hours and was so chill. I paid the $180 for the perm (she didnt charge me for my haircut) and tipped. My stylist then told me to return 6 months later to perm again. They had estimated my curls would hold anywhere between 3-6 months, so I was pleased it ended up being 6 months! I got compliments almost every day for two months afterwards.

So, yesterday on Friday the 27th I went in around 4:15 for a cut and perm. I called day of, and made the appt easily. As soon as I walked in, I checked in and was greeted by lots of friendly and happy faces. They were really busy! I sat down almost immediately and was given a woman whose name I didn't learn. I showed pics of what I got last time and said i wanted a repeat and she said OK.

This was probably one of the WORST perm experiences of my life :(
She was so rough with my head and ears to the point that as I write this, my right ear is swollen because she pulled really hard on an earring/piercing and it swelled up while she was trying to put cotton around my head.

My head, neck, and shoulders are SORE and tender to the touch. It also took 3 hours! And don't get me wrong, this lady was nice and friendly enough. But everything she did felt rushed and she was yanking my head around left and right. Every time we went to wash, she would try and tie a towel around my head that would fall off immediately. She got solution in my eye twice. She squirted water into my ears and banged my head against the sink / hit me multiple times with the showerhead thing. She also really tried to exercise my core I guess because there were multiple times she asked me not to lay all the way down, and as a result, my lower back is killing me this AM.

She also completely soaked me. By the time I left, the back of my sweater was DRENCHED. This is NOT an exaggeration. I could literally take it off and wring it out with how much water was down my back. There were multiple ladies trying to blow dry the back of my sweater before I left, but I really just wanted to go.

TBH I barely looked at my hair, I was so eager to get out and go home that I just paid and tried to leave. The guy asked me how my experience was, but being that I was the last customer in the salon, I was nervous to tell the truth and just wanted to get out and go home. So, after I went home I really checked out my hair and its....pretty terrible. The length is perfect, actually, but the curls and the styling are....bad. I look like a cross between Lord Farquaad and Maui from Moana. I'll let the pics speak for themselves. And this round ended up costing me 180 for perm, 30 for haircut, 15 for tip.

I will probably still go back in another 6 months but will just kindly request a different lady.

I am a 61 year old man with combination hair and pattern baldness. My hair is very difficult to understand and cut correctly. I saw a Yelp review recommending Paul and I'm glad I did. After I explained the above, Paul cut my hair exactly the way I wanted. It was a really great haircut. I'll be back.
