Where else can you get a 10" hot dog, a huge order of onion rings, and soda for around $6?
My dad grew up in Mattapan Square (it was a much different neighborhood then, mostly Italian and Jewish) and Simcos was a staple for him and my uncles. While its not a "staple" for me, its definitely someplace I make a point to stop at a few times per year for a dog.
The onion rings are AMAZING, and the hot dogs are delicious (grilled). Service is friendly and quick and more than anything, the place is SPOTLESS!
Hopefully I'll take the next generation of my family to Simco's someday! -

Truth be told, I'm a Hot Dog Head and I don't care who knows it! Simco's without question is in the upper echelon of hot dog joints in the city, serving probably the biggest dogs around. Not to mention they toast and butter my buns. Ooh lah lah.
The workers are friendly and efficient, which is choice especially if it's cold out. The onion rings are crunchy and fresh, just be sure to have a breath mint after indulging. Make that two.
The area may be a little sketch-tastic for most, but I like to think it's misunderstood. Walk-up service only, no seating areas or public restrooms, which is also a bit of a drawback, but PERFECT for 'drive bys' as in grab n' go, not so much the gun part (but in all honestly, maybe). Hot Dogs for forever homes! Word to your Moms.

Oh, Simco's. The times we had together when I lived in Boston. You were always SO GOOD to me, and I will never forget that. I visited Boston recently and called on you for old times' sake, and as always, you delivered. Great, quick service and fresh, hot food.
I've only ever had the (not-too-salty, grilled, mmmmm) hot dogs, fries and STEAK TIPS, served in this fab sauce. Seriously, the first time I had the steak tips I re-evaluated my purpose on this planet. Every time after that I think I just ate with my eyes closed. -

Classic hot dog walk up joint. The longer-then-the-bun dogs are simply outstanding. In fact the last time I went to the once fine event known as the Hot Dog Safari I simply kept returning to the Simcos line because they were sooooo awesome. The location may not be convenient for everyone but it's worth a trip to try the hot dogs. I've never tried anything else so I can't comment on it

Review from Lea C.
I was hoping, with all the hype, that I would get a really great chili dog here. Nope. A foot-long hot dog, which is nice, but the dog was meh, the chili had beans in it like soup (not chili sauce for hot dogs) and was so gross I had to scrape it all off and eat the hot dog plain in an attempt to save my lunch.
The onion rings were dry and unseasoned, the fries with frozen and batter-dipped. The only thing good about the meal was the raspberry lime rickey that the bf loved but I thought was too sweet.
To be fair, these are the only things on the menu I have sampled, as I've attempted to come here a couple times for lunch but was turned away because the business is cash-only in 2010. The service was nice and the locals seem to love the place. Maybe next time I'll get a milkshake. For now, it's just not doing it for me. -

"A-OK" perfectly sums up how I feel about Simco's. The food isn't great: the dog was underwhelming, the chili tasted like it came out of a can, and the onion rings needed salt. However: the raspberry lime rickey is pretty amazeballs and the service was friendly if a bit brisk. They also gave my group an extra order of onion rings at no cost, so I appreciate that. We'll definitely come back, if only to try some of the other menu items and get me a milkshake.

Simco's has the BEST Raspberry Lime Rickey I've EVER tasted in my LIFE! OMG!!! You should stop by just to grab one.
Hot dogs are all beef, and they are they bomb, on lightly toasted, buttery rolls, made just the way you request them. Yummy! Kinda pricey, though, so watch how many you order.
The place has been remodeled. It's spotless, bright, shiny, friendly service, and a menu that makes you wonder if you want seafood or a dog. However, since they are FAMOUS for their dogs, do the dogs! Like George Clinton says, "bow wow wow yippee yo yippee yay, bow wow, yippee yo, yippey yay"!
No seating, cash only, drive up-get out-wait-at-window.
Your stomach will thank you! Pure deliciousness! -

Simco's on the bridge has the best take out seafood. My fiance and I always buy the seafood platter. My mother loves their fish sandwiches. It is piled with mouth-watering fish. The milk shakes are thck and smooth. I can not finish a whole shake. Simco's food selection has expanded. I drove 5 people to Simco's last week and they all ordered a seafood selection. It is worth the trip.
Em C, you are right because I always get hit on when I go to Simco's. -

This is the only place I've had a remarkable hot dog in Boston, and that's really saying something because for a while, I really searched around for exceptional dogs.
In New Jersey, where every other town has a hot dog place that takes seriously its claims to be a local legend, hot dogs are often grilled to within an inch of their life, and best of all plunged into hot oil until they split. Simco's grills their similarly -- the outside leathery and red, the inside bursting with juicy flavor. Best of all, they're a foot long, and they don't waste your time with an overwhelming amount of bread. They're Jersey-worthy dogs, a rarity in this town.
Really, hot dogs are a delicacy and need to be treated as such. If you're going to enjoy one properly, it's worth taking the trip out to Mattapan and have one at Simco's today. -

Awesome hotdog stand. I get two chili cheese dogs and one with mustard and kraut and mix it with a rasberry lime ricky. All the reviews here are legit.
Walk up window, cash, no seating. Eat in your car. White people, don't be afraid of Mattapan. -

I thinks this place is the TOPS! I grew up right around the corner from them so I might be a little biased but ...F' it ...I love this place. I even sold two paintings of this little gem...I should've given them a chance to see them before I hawked them but ...I needed the money...whatcha gonna do.
Great hotdogs...great Steak and Cheeses (probably the only spot in Boston that makes a decent one (Besides Stashes on Blue Hill and Columbia Road) and friendly service. Love that freakin' place

Let me start by saying that I am a hot dog addict, nothing in my opinion beats a cheap dog for a quick bite. I'm not even that much of a snob, I like the all beef ones and the kosher are the best but I'll try any dog I see. In fact the only reason I ever go to NYC is to buy hot dogs from those cool little street carts (ok, fine I go for the knishes as well).
Simco's is some sort of a local legend, they have been there forever. I guess they have been at the location in Mattappan since the great depression. Well, the hot dogs taste that old. Seriously, yuck, ill, ick, blahhh, rubbery, just bad. I'd much prefer Jennie-O nasty store bought turkey franks that have been microwaved and doused in ketchup to these nasty buggers. I hope I just went on a bad day and that on a good day that the rest of Boston has actually been keeping these guys in business for a good reason.
It's been some time since I've been so I will let you know how the dogs are when I next visit. -

This place brings back lots of memories of my childhood. Family trips here were always special. The first memory was the buttery taste of the toasted, two sided bun and that foot long hot dog.
Then fast forward to the teen years. This was the after party spot or a place you would bring your teen date after movie. By this time I had progressed to eating burgers and fisherman's platters.
Now on occasion, I bring my family here. The kids have started slow with just the typical hot dog basket. My daughter did order her first clam box last summer. Ohhh and the kids share a small butter pecan ice cream which is huge. -

Not bad, but nothing special. The chili dog was competent, but nothing special, and the fries are just average.

This is the spot, late night or otherwise. As others have noted, the hot dogs are great, and I'd also say add a side of fries because they're crispy and stay that way. Maybe it's because everything gets wrapped in foil? I like that old school touch. My food stayed pretty hot all the way home. I do forget this place, but last night we hit it around midnight and it was exactly the right thing.

Boston, MA
An old-time roadside food experience, part retro Coney Island hot dog stand, part Greek-American quick-service sub, souvlaki, and fried-food shop.
Boston has hundreds of food blogs, with new ones appearing every day. Of the many I read, one I've come to trust is Boston's Hidden Restaurants and its sibling Boston Restaurant News, whose author does two things especially well: documenting restaurants beyond my Boston-centric purview in the suburbs and in smaller cities and towns around New England, and uncovering worthy old-timey places. If he recommends a restaurant, I have confidence it'll be worth a trip. That's how I got steered to Simco's on the Bridge, an old-fashioned take-out stand at the southern extreme of Boston near the Milton line.
Simco's original claim to fame is hot dogs ($2.86-$3.62), which here are foot-longs of not especially great frankfurter quality (lacking natural-casing snap) but dressed beautifully: a buttered and grilled roll (crucial) and topping options like cumin-rich beef-bean chili, melted American process cheese, and traditional condiments. While not the gourmand experience of a Speed's Famous Hot Dog Wagon, they're a fine version of the classic Coney Island dog beloved by Americans since the 1930s, when Simco's first opened. In this spirit, I recommend the canonical chili-cheese dog with yellow mustard and chopped onions. French fries ($2.75/small; $3.50/large) have a sprayed-on starch coating that makes them very crisp if commercial-tasting, but also sturdy enough to withstand cheese ($3.50) or chili and cheese ($4). Onion rings ($3/$4) are similarly well-crisped and just greasy enough. Good deep-fryer technique also shows up in seafood plates with fries and coleslaw, like haddock ($13), clams ($15), and scallops ($15). I especially liked the bargain-priced plate of whiting ($10.50), a sweet-flavored, flounder-like fish fried up here in delicate fillets.
Greek rotisserie and grill stand-bys, like gyros, souvlaki, and chicken kabobs ($6-$7/in pita; $10/as plates with rice, Greek salad, and pita), are serviceable if less noteworthy. The rest of the menu is more typical Greek-American house-of-pizza fare: decent pan pizzas by the pie ($5.75-$12.50) and goodly slice ($1.75-$3), cold and hot subs ($4.50-$8), and well-stuffed, fat-dripping steak bombs ($6-$9). In true roadside-stand fashion, Simco's also serves ice cream ($3-$3.75), sundaes ($5), and frappes ($3.75). Haven't had enough fried food? Get a deep-fried Twinkie or Devil Dog ($2.75; $4.75 à la mode). Order up a greasy feast, ask for extra napkins, and eat on the sidewalk or in your car with a view of Simco's awesomely retro-cool, fading signage. It's a cheap-eats experience your great-grandfather would recognize and enjoy. -

i'm embarassed to say I've never had a hot dog here but love the steak and cheese subs and the fish sandwiches. The food is delicious, hot and abundant. Walk up service with no inside eating, its a city tradition going way back.
