I can't belive that I hadn't reviewed Silver Sake!  We have been coming here for over 6 years and they definitely never disappoint!  Doesn't matter if it's your first time or your 100th, Silver Sake staff makes you feel completely at home.

They have a huge roll menu, but I say don't bother.  Just tell the chefs what you like and let them do they're magic...they never disappoint!  And don't you dare leave without ordering the Pepperfin - a must have.  So if you're heading out to Carmichael and your craving fantastic Sushi and a fun family environment, this is your place!

If you're looking for a party and aren't too hung up on the food - you'll be real happy with Silver Sake.

I've been there five times - I really wanted to like this place as it's the nearest sushi restaurant to my home (the Arden/Fair Oaks vicinity is sadly bereft of sushi options) and so I kept making excuses to come back. "It's inexpensive..." "The beer is cold..." ...and most of all..."It's close..."

But it's unlikely I will return again. Clearly there are "regulars" that love this place - they drink heavily, watch the games and are loud - I don't have a problem with any of this, but (a) it's not the best environment to bring kids (I have two), and (b) don't bother sitting at the bar unless you're prepared to participate.

The bottom line, however, is that the quality of the fish is not good. When we have to repeatedly pull gristle and stringy tendons out of our mouths, it's time to flee.

When we suggest to the kids to go to sushi now, they are always excited...but the first thing they ask is, "...But not to the place with stringy fish, right?"

    Be warned...

I'm asian & I know that I get the "asian glow" when I drink. When we showed up, the sushi chef behind the bar had really rosy cheeks. My girl & I weren't greeted & we sat ourselves at the bar after standing there for awhile...looking lost. The chef had been drinking with the customers who were already at the bar.

Its great to know that when you go to a new place just to try it, they treat you like they appreciate you for choosing their restaurant & like you're a friend. We sat there for 20mins before another customer at the bar finally told the chef that we just walked in. He blinked a few times before he realized that there were new people sitting at the bar. He tossed the menus on the counter like a frisbee & continued socializing & drinking. The server didn't even realize we were sitting there either because the chef didn't bother to let them know. We sat for another 15mins...starving...waiting to order.

We finally gave up & gave in to having Mcdonalds. How sad is that, we got better service in the 5mins sitting in a drive thru than in the whole 45mins we wasted at this place. The chef thanked us when we left...wth...somebody is really smashed when they thank you for wasting your time.

THERE IS A TIME & PLACE FOR SOCIALIZING & HAVING A FRAT PARTY but it shouldn't be at a place of business you proudly own. Its a great pleasure to go to a restaurant & have the owner accept a drink from or with you. But getting hammered & neglecting customers is a BIG ISSUE. That's not how you show patrons how much appreciation you have for their time & money. Just because you already have some loyal customers doesn't mean its a bad idea to have even more. I think someone needs to go to some meetings.

Terrible showmanship of a restaurant that has such high reviews from yelp and many that I know....just terrible....

great environment and great food. Felt very welcomed like I've been a regular there for years. They have a huge role list to order from as well as other dishes. Their bacon wrapped scallops were out of this world. Highly recommend this place to any sushi enthusiast.

The service has been on a steady decline since I started coming here months ago. Twice now the staff have brought out food with improper timing. Example: Four people, one orders a bento box or dinner entree, and the rest order rolls for their entree. The kitchen food (bento) comes out rather promptly, but the rolls took 30 minutes (!) to arrive. Does the person who got their food wait to eat it and let it get cold, or do they finish their meal before the others have a chance to eat?

Good luck getting any service when the guys up front are busy chatting amongst themselves or with the remainder of staff and regulars. Plenty of in-house partying at the cost of the guest. The customer is not king, which is sad when customer service and gaining patrons is vital to the survival of a restaurant.

Mediocre food. But again, lousy service. Deal breaker.

Finally tried this place with a friend tonight. The server didn't have the lights on, which he explained made the temperature in the restaurant go up by 10 degrees. We didn't mind, we could see the menus just fine.

The appetizer scallops wrapped with bacon and teriyaki were to die for! We ordered several sushi rolls, my favorites were the Money roll and the Chris roll. The rolls weren't as filling as I've had at other sushi bars. We ended up having $51 worth of sushi and this is with no drinks-only water! I'm usually fairly full with one good sized sushi roll, so to me, this is a lot to spend to be full. Oh...and it got really busy around 6pm-and very loud. But, its to be expected on a Friday night.

    *****UPDATE*****

We went again and everything was fine until they got busy. I actually called ahead to ask if they got busy on Sunday evenings. I was told that Sunday evenings weren't busy. As soon as 6pm rolled around, they got busy. Anyways...

We ordered the Chris roll and the Lobster roll (not really lobster, btw). The Chris roll had green onions in it, which I didn't remember being in the roll the last time I was in. Neither one of us like onions, so we ended up not finishing it-I actually spit my piece out onto a napkin (which I never do with food, usually). Our waitress was too busy with other people for us to complain. I really didn't think we should have had to pay for the Chris roll. We quickly paid with no tip and left. I'm having second thoughts about coming here. I think I'll just stick to my regular sushi place.

I've been here twice. One star, solely because the unagi roll was absolutely brimming with the stuff. However, the prices are exorbitant, the sushi chef would rather drink sake all night and talk rather than make my food, and the food was pretty lame anyway. I ordered my sushi roll thirty minutes before any more customers showed up, and a group of three walked in and bought two bottles of sake, half of which went to the chef. Their food was made fresh, RIGHT THERE in front of me, and I had to wait an extra hour for the chef to sober up and make my food.

Never again. I don't lose my patience often, but Silver Sake definitely pushed the wrong buttons.

The first time I went to Silver Sake it was alright. Everyone around me really enjoyed it, but I was a honestly a little disappointed.

I have had a lot of bento boxes in my day, and this little box was particularly small. Plus my tempura wasn't cooked through all the way. I think it would be nice of them to put some more snacks in the box.

Additionally, they gave us two free bottles of Sake, which was nice of them.

My second time around, I changed my mind about this place.

It was about 5 in the afternoon when I came in with my daughter, and sat down at the sushi bar. The server didn't acknowledge me. I wanted a juice box for my kid, and was told a server would come around. Again, she didn't, and one of the patrons actually brought me a juice box.

After 20 minutes of not being acknowledged by the server, and watching the sushi chef throw back a bunch of sake, I left.

The sushi is good, but service and drinking do not mix.
Maybe this place should be listed as a Sushi Bar & Grill.

As I'm reading over the reviews, I'm thinking to myself, "How can I take anyone or their reviews seriously when you eat unagi rolls and at places like Arigato's and Sushi Hook? lol. Unagi is beginner sushi and those 2 places are the LAST places I would even consider eating sushi. There's a reason why everything is 1/2 price. Hint: It's not even remotely close to good sushi.

Anyway, back to my review for the adults...

I've been coming to Silver Sake for almost 5 years. I was a little afraid to try it because I'm a snob when it comes to sushi and I was judging a book by it's cover. My first order was take out. Normally, I don't judge a sushi place's sushi on their take out because it doesn't taste fresh by the time you get home. Silver Sake's take out, on the other hand, was actually pretty darn good. Because of this experience, I went back.

Now, there's a reason why they have so many regulars. Every time I walk in, there's someone I've seen at least once before. They're quick to learn your name and they treat you like family. Not to mention, their sushi isn't half bad.

I've since gone vegan and Camon (the owner) and the chefs are more than happy to cater to my needs. In fact, I just went in there today and mentioned that I liked something in particular and Camon said, "Okay, I'll look into getting that."

I gave only 4 stars because yeah, the service can be a little slow sometimes. But it isn't one thing in particular, it's usually because it's pretty busy. I will admit, there are a couple of servers who aren't the best I've ever seen in a restaurant and there's one chef in particular who's pretty new to the whole sushi thing. But in general, the service isn't BAD, it's just a little slow.

As Americans we're so funny with our fast internet and our fast cars and fast service and fast food and fast, instant gratification. Silver Sake is a place you should expect to take at least an hour to eat ...just as a dining experience should be. You should also expect to be treated like family. And If that's not your thing, then you should probably call and order ahead for take-out.

I looooooove this place!! I have been yearning for a place like Cheers... "You wanna go where everybody knows your name..." I have found it!

Sushi chefs are super friendly (and handsome may I add, *wink*) and they will do substitutions for you. Say if you think a roll looks good but you don't like tuna, they will sub for something else you do like! The guys are really nice about that. If you go in a few times, they will learn your name and even recommend you stuff based on your tastes. They are awesome. My favorite sushi place for sure. The garlic roll is super yummy and they made me something that was so spicy good!

Friday nights are especially fun. Seems like all the regulars come in and have a good ol' time. (Also a good place to watch a sports game... The crowd gets pretty into it.) My two favorite chefs are on duty so that makes it extra fun. :) Thanks John and Will!

This place is the sushi version of "Cheers" where everybody knows your name! At first glance, you may think "eh, it's ok," but don't be fooled! Their food here is awesome, despite of the lack of decor. Actually, it's clean a simple. You shouldn't be paying for the decor anyway. You're here for good food and GREAT food is what you're going to get!

The chefs (Camon, Will, Kevin, and Jon) are super friendly. If you look at the menu and still don't see what you want to eat, they'll make something for you on spot at your request. Their service is great and you're bound to feel like home here with the guys.

TIP: The pepperfin and the Chris roll is awesome. Try it!

I looooooooove this place! For sure the best sushi you can find, and much better prices! The pepperfin is to die for! The 916,lobster, devil, and garlic roll are all favorites of ours! Not only is the food great the atmosphere and staff is like being at home with it's family feeling! They always remember our order and how we like our sushi and when we bring our daughter even cut up her chicken teriyaki just how she likes it. Been going here since they opened as well as all my friends and family! It's truly a diamond in the rough! Give it a try!

I was absolutely flabbergasted when I saw Silver Sake on lists naming the best Japanese restaurants in the area. Seriously? Seriously?! Maybe it's some kind of Bay Area elitism (I just moved after living there for five years), but if you think this is good Japanese food, you need to get out more. Even cheap, Americanized sushi along the lines of Silver Sake is better in the Bay Area.

The food is nearly inedible. Bland beyond belief. The teriyaki sauce was watery, and the rolls were just blah -- even rolls as simple as the California roll, which are pretty hard to ruin. On top of that, and perhaps more importantly, the ingredients weren't even remotely fresh. The eel on the Danny's roll was what I can only describe as an abnormal color too questionable to consume. As if that weren't enough to destroy my opinion of their establishment, my mom once ordered tempura she described as the product of throwing spoiled vegetables into a deep fryer. Upon sampling said tempura, I am inclined to agree. Excelling in nothing but cooking rice properly does not earn you points when you claim to serve "good" Japanese food.

My stomach turns just thinking about this place. Please, for the love of God, save yourself the indigestion and don't go.

It pains me to give Silver Sake even one star.

I just moved to Carmichael a few months ago and have been trying to find my "sushi spot."  I'd been going to Sushi Hook and Arigato for a while (they are opened till midnight every night and have all 1/2-off rolls).  But they are both at least 20 minutes from my house.  Then I Googled this place and found I could walk to it from my apartment.  I squealed in excitement as I stepped into the place.

My boyfriend and I walked in and were quickly told to sit anywhere we like.  We sat for almost 10 minutes before being greeted at our table; no water or menus.  By then, I decided to get a single roll to go.  I was bummed to see that their rolls were full price and averaging $8-13 each, but was optimistic that it would be worth the quality.

30 minutes later I got my check.  And 5 minutes after that I got my sushi roll.  It took me 45 minutes to get awful service and okay sushi.  When I got home, I noticed the average-sized roll wasn't even cut all the way through (I had to pull each one off of the next to separate them).

I'd rather spend twenty minutes driving for cheap delicious sushi than waiting nearly an hour for awful service and substandard sushi.  Definitely not the golden opportunity I thought it would be.  This place should be called Participant-Sake.  It's not even worth silver.

We've been there for dinner 5-6 times, usually on Sunday but also a couple Saturdays. The food is always good. Whether or not the sushi is "authentic" is (to me) irrelevant; It's good. It's just good.
Regarding the ambiance: Yeah, the staff jokes and is sometimes loud. The furniture is a bit worn. It's kind of small and cramped, and the wall decorations remind me of my refrigerator door. But that's all good, because it's AUTHENTIC. It's real. If you want sterile, new, cast-from-the-same-mold styling, go to the Mall. Or Mikuni's/Cheesecake Factory/Chilis/any of a million other franchised, homogenized Walmart style restaurants.

I was not a fan of sushi and this place has completely changed my mind! I checked this place out because a friend invited me to go see another mutual friend who is a sushi chef there (shout out to Jon!) I am so glad I went!
I can't remember what the first thing we ate was but it was raw fish (big surprise, I know) with soy sauce & sesame seeds, I was wary but I always try everything at least once, and I was so glad, it was delectable!! Soft, just the right consistency, & extra delicious.
Next I ordered a calamari stir fry dish of some sort (mostly for the miso soup & salad) the main dish ended up not being my style, either that or I was too impressed by the sushi that Jon had served us while we waited! It was a piece of heaven, I asked him what it was called and he said "I don't know" he had just created it! I couldn't get over how good it was so I ordered some more to take home, by the end of the night it had a name the "NorCal Special" I definitely suggest you get it when Jon is working (Sat. nights). Pretty much everything I tasted was on point and I was already planning when I would be back when I heard that they serve mochi for dessert!!! *BINGO* This is my new restaurant of choice in my area. Like my friend's daughter said they get a "100% for everything"

I'm one of those Bay Area elite (who lives in the Bay Area, and not Sacramento). With my vast sushi elitism experience (I do have a resume), I truly believe that Silver Sake provides a product that is unmatched in Sacramento (not the Bay Area).

The fish is fresh (Thursday/Fridays are the best days), drink some Silver Sake, enjoy the history of the name of the place.

The food is great, the scooby-doo, the pepperfin garden and the a**hole that is not on the menu are my three safe choices every time I drive to the Central Valley from the  "Bay Area".

Just left Silver Sake SO disappointed.

First, my husband and I have been customers for 4-5 years and generally get take-out, although we go in occasionally.  Tonight we were able to get sitter and go out.  We were very excited when we got there and were greeted appropriately.

However, the service was terrible and I left wishing we had spent our night out somewhere else. It appears that although we probably spend about $600+ there a year, we are not "VIP" enough to rate any attention if there are more important customers there (which there clearly were tonight).

Although they seemed to recognize us and greeted us when we came in, we basically had to beg for any type of service after. I asked for water twice, and then they only brought for me and not my husband.  My husband sat for at least 15 minutes having finished the beer and sake we ordered and no one remotely cared or even glanced in our general direction (despite our placement right next to the register and kichen).  I finally poured half my water in his empty beer glass.

We were there 1 1/2 hours and had to get 2 rolls to go because everything took so long. We got 3 appetizers to our table in the first hour+ and had to assault our "waiter" to order more.  With 15 minutes before we had to leave we asked if our salmon nigiri was ready and it had not even been ordered.  Then, the rolls that were to-go came for dine-in.

Although the food was good, I felt so mistreated when I left it didn't matter. Apparently, unless you are favorite at the bar, plying everyone with sake, you are treated like less-than. And we've actually done that several times but there was no seating at the bar tonight. Yet, the shots, food, and drinks kept pouring out to several people at the bar during the course of our "dinner" while we were basically invisible the whole night.

Overall, I left feeling unappreciated and ignored.  And a little angry.  Although the food is good enough for take-out, I won't go back for dine-in.  It totally ruined my rare night out.  And, my husband always overtips for take-out in my opinion. That is most certainly over. The theory was that if we tip well we'd be treated well. Ha. Clearly of no consequence.  Nor were the free girl scout cookies I brought tonight for the Silver Sake folks.  I think the reception was "I don't even like Thin Mints."  Oh.  Well F you.  I"ll be sure to remember that next year.  Sorry to try to do something nice.  Wish I could have taken them back before I left.

Next time I'll drive downtown to Zen Sushi.  They're better anyway, it would probably be faster, and I know I'll get good service.  Lesson learned.

And p.s., don't be fooled by the delivery ad.  They have never agreed to deliver, depite our close proximity, and have either been "too busy" or not had a delivery person for years now.  I have asked for delivery and been denied at least 5 times.

Easily one of my favourite places in town. The servers are great (sadly, Bonnie appears to have left) and friendly. Cayman is hilarious but warm with all customers. The rolls are well made and delicious (the Chris roll is my favourite!).

It can be crowded and thus a little cramped, but it's a nice place.

The two younger guys that used to work full time in the bar here are hilarious. Very welcoming, and the sushi is not very traditional, but it is still very delicious!

Definatley a small, hole in the wall location, but the atmosphere is worth the drive.

If you mention it's your birthday to the two owners, they usually end up drinking a bottle of sake with you. :)

    A must try restaurant!

I love this place! It is indeed a down home/sports bar with a feeling of coming home. Everyone seems so happy. Friendly vibes are felt! The sushi is wonderful! My favorite is the 101 roll. I had raw oysters for the first time and was surprised they were so delicious! Teriyaki chicken strips were delicious as well. The owner, Kamon is really a good guy, doing so much for his surrounding community's school. He is quite entertaining. His help are wonderful as well. Monday and Tues nights the sake is discounted. It was quite busy with a happy crowd on Friday night.

Just moved to the area and trying to find my Sushi spot.  Nothing really stood out for me while I was there, except my server.  It appears that he was the grunt guy or new, and the person behind the sushi station/bar was very rude to him when making orders in front of all of the customers. (all 7 of us)....In fact, I heard "You made 3 major errors in that order" - And they were just in the ordering stage.  I know the customer hadn't gotten food yet because I walked in at the same time as them.  I ordered the Kamikaze (yum!) and the Sacramento Rolls...  Food is great, ambiance is simplistic and the customer service directly is nice.  Think the workers just need to be more respectfully speaking to one another in front of their customers.  It was bothersome to me.

Kaymen you are a hilarious and welcoming dude! Everyone is friendly in this cozy little spot. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar and let the guys make up something of their choosing for you. Buy a bottle of sake and share with everyone. You will leave with new friends.

Good for a fun night of entertainment and delicious sushi.

This little sushi restaurant is hidden away in a strip mall with a new grocery store and Long's Drug store.  I would never have know about this place if it wasn't suggested by my Mom who offered to take me and my daughter out for lunch.
The restaurant is super tiny, luckily we were the only customers (could be because they were repaving most of the parking lot that day and there wasn't really any parking at all).  Apparently they do a lot of dinner and take out business, but for lunch they were dead.
We started out by getting an order of mixed tempura and asked for extra onions (my daughter only likes the onion rings) and a order of edamame.  The edamame came out pipping hot with a generous sprinkling of salt, we had to let it cool down a little bit before being able to eat.  The tempura was soon brought out and it was very tasty and just the right amount for an appetizer.
We ordered some nigiri hamachi, maguro, and hotatagai.  We also placed an order for some specialty rolls, the Best Roll,  the Five-Star Roll and an Avocado-Cucumber Roll (for the toddler).  Our nigiri was very good, the fish was super fresh and very tasty almost melted in my mouth.  The rolls came out and both were awesome.  The Best roll, I can't remember what exactly was in it, but it was delicious with a subtle hint of lemon, the Five-Star Roll was great too.  My daughter devoured the Avocado-Cucumber Roll so I assume it too was good.
Our lunch came just over $50 and we had a coupon for $10 off $50 or more.  I will probably return here again, and try some of the other rolls they offered.

This is my new favorite place!  Cayman is the bomb and very nice.  I came across this place since it's only a few blocks from my place and my bf and I decided to venture in for dinner one night.  Right away when we walked in the owner knew we had never been there.  I guess it's like Cheers, where everyone knows your name because everyone there seemed to know everyone and we were the new people.  The workers are so friendly and the sushi is really good.  They have a lot of your typical white washed sushi, but they don't over do the sauce like some places.  I most definitely plan to make this local gem a regular!

Server was brash, not very polished.  Felt liek a place where the F-Bomb would be acceptable.

VERY good sushi and I'm picky about quality.

Atmosphere, EH. so so.  I've been to worse.

I will and have been back.  I go for the Sushi, not the staff or ambiance.

Local paper gave this establishment a good review and decided to give it a try. Was looking forward to finding a gem in my neighborhood. Miso soup was reasonably priced and had good taste. Tea was served lukewarm. Sunomono was too salty and so was the saba nigiri. The rice served with rolls and nigiri was packed too tightly. Artifical crab in the California roll was dry; like it was in the refrigerator too long and uncovered. Spicy tuna roll was poorly prepared  There was a chunk of chili that was not mixed resulting in an unpleasant mouthful of hotness. Hamachi nigiri was passable. Waiter was pleasant. Will not be coming back.

I saw an add in the SNR or the ticket or something like that.  I thought I would try a new place.  I was heading out to that area anyway.  The sign says Light and healthy sushi.  That sounds like it would be good quality fish with little adornment.  That's what I was hoping for.   I was disappointed.
So I walk in and this place is small.  A little sushi bar and some tables.  I always start off with some Tako sashimi when I go to a new place.   I feel I can judge the quality by ordering this one thing.   The octopus is cooked, but should be left pretty rare in the center.   I find the best sushi bars take the care to cook the tako this way.  The bad places have it cooked all the way through and it is chewy and rubbery.   So I sit down at the bar and order this.  The chef tells me they don't serve it.   What???!!!  no Tako!!  Maybe some Aji, no dice.  He says the only sashimi they have is Tuna, Yellow tail or salmon.    I look at the menu to see if there is anything else I might like.   Every roll has tempura shrimp in it.  I settle on a small roll.   It has the fried shrimp in the middle and is covered in 3 different sauces.    That is not what I call "light and healthy sushi"  I ate half the roll and asked for my bill.   It wasn't good at all.   I walked into this place really excited about trying a new place, but left really disappointed.  Maybe I built it up to be something it wasn't.   The menu didn't get me excited.   This place just didn't do it for me.  I walked across the parking lot to Eve's market and bought some food to make dinner at home.
