4 reviews for Silver Reef Hotel, Casino, and Spa
This review is specifically for the PanAsia restaurant in the Lummi Silver Reef Casino.
I recommend giving the PanAsia a shot if you are in the Ferndale area. But since I don't gamble I can't provide any input on the casino's gaming areas.
I came here with my sister and brother-in-law on a Saturday evening and the parking lot was full when we arrived. However, the PanAsia restaurant was nearly empty (but began filling up around 9:00pm).
For a starter dish, I had the lobster egg flower soup. Pretty nasty. It had chunks of raw tomato that seemed out of place in a hot soup. Also the soup had very little egg...but an overwhelming odd fishy flavor. No lobster detected in the soup. They have other soups and I would recommend you try one of those instead. I did sample the hot and sour soup, and it was good (except for the cilantro they sprinkled on it for a garnish).
The entrees were much better. We ordered the honey-walnut shrimp, teriyaki sirloin and the spicy Curry noodles with Chinese mushrooms.
The honey-walnut shrimp was wonderful. Fat juicy shrimp dredged in a crushed walnut batter then lightly fried. Oh so good!!
The teriyaki sirloin was tender and flavorable and cooked to a decent doneness.
The curried noodles were delicious too (the Chinese sausage had a nice sweetness), but were a bit spicy for us. As a credit to PanAsia --- on their menu --- they assign dishes 0 to 3 chilis indicating spiciness. The curried noodles were rated at one chili, but still plenty hot.
For dessert we had these rolled-up crepes that contained a chocolate sauce filling. I thought they were good but Sandy felt they could have been more crunchy. Served with a very good heated chocolate and caramel sauce.
Randy remarked that they must have a high turnover in the kitchen because the dishes at the PanAsia are never prepared quite the same from one time to the next (he has eaten here many times).
Some of the smoke from the casino did come in to the restaurant, but we were just glad that the Nanny State hasn't yet been able to ban smoking at the Native American casinos (for the record I don't smoke, but do love personal liberty & freedom).

The Steakhouse at the Silver Reef casino is actually one of the best steaks (porterhouse) I've had in my life. Cheaper than most steak houses & also very good service (for being inside of the casino!)
Their hotel rates aren't too bad and the rooms are pretty decent, except for the faint lingering of smoke (even in the no smoking rooms. Meh to their ventilation system!). The Steak House is probably the nicest restaurants in the casino (of 6 total eateries) and supposedly has won local awards. The Friday/Saturday night special is slow roasted prime rib and it's HUGE. Let me tell you, it was slooooow roasted because my husband was long finished with his meal before mine was ever served.

I'm not a big gambler, I don't even know how to play any table games, but I do enjoy some time on the slots machines. I'm also pretty cheap when I do gamble, and I only start with $20 and rarely spend anymore than that when I'm done. I enjoy coming to the Silver Reef Casino because it's not some podunk shitty casino, it's actually kinda big (for an Indian casino) and BRIGHT! and they have some pretty fun machines here. They took out my favorite machine, the Fortune Cookie slot machine, but they have other comparably fun 5 cent machines. They just don't seem to let me win as much at the Fortune Cookie machine did. Because of some law in Washington State, you can't actually put money in any machine. At Silver Reef, you have three different options for obtaining credit to gamble your money away. First option, you get a Dividend Card. You should get one of these anyway, because it tracks how much you play and lose and rewards you with points that you can redeem for money. Anyway, first option with the Dividend Card, get card and go to cage. Put money onto Dividend Card and gamble at machines that use that option. Second and third option, go to a machine and put cash into it and it spits out ticket for that denomination. You can do as little as $1 if you're really cheap or broke and have to get your fix. This is the second and third option because there are two different types of tickets. One is regular size (slightly smaller than a dollar bill, thicker paper), and the other is about the size of huge play money. The different sized tickets can be used only in the machines that take that size ticket. I think the Silver Reef Casino has some fun slot machines and the casino itself it always full. I think they have too many penny slots, but apparently penny slots are a huge draw. Silver Reef Casino also regularly features live music. I've only been there on weekends (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays), but they seem to have too many crappy cover bands and people that think they can sing. Although they did recently feature Don McLean, but that was a one-shot thing, for the grand opening of their hotel. The hotel just opened, so I don't know if it's awesome or not, I haven't stayed there. Silver Reef Casino also has several food options. The food at the Deli is pretty good. The restaurant, the Red River Cafe, is also pretty good and offers a different type of buffet daily. I've enjoyed the Seafood Buffet and it was really good. They have many types of pie and cheesecake, and dessert is often included in your buffet or dinner special. I'd stick with ordering water with your meal, the soda is a bit watered down and you can get it free at the Deli when you're done if you really need one. In addition to free soft drinks, the Silver Reef Casino also offers free bottled water. Other food options include a steak house that I've heard is very good, bar food, and the recently opened Panasia, which serves, duh, pan-asian food. One more thing, you can still smoke at the Silver Reef Casino. You either love that or hate it. Because it's on the Lummi Island Indian Reservation, they are exempt from the no-smoking law. All in all, I really enjoy coming to the Silver Reef Casino, even if I don't smoke or win a lot of money when I come here.
