I recently played this private course as the guest of a friend who is a member. They have 27 holes, the  18 hole "championship" course and the "hill nine" course. I played the 18-hole course on a weekday afternoon. Being a private course, it wasn't very busy and our foursome finished in exactly 4 hours.

Since it's been so rainy this summer, the greens were soft, but not slow at all. Fairways were plush. Some of the bunkers need more sand though. The holes designed by Donald Ross have many of the typical Ross design elements, and were my favorites to play. #1 and #18 were in my opinion the toughest holes on the course. #1 is a long uphill par 4, playing to the toughest, quickest green on the course. #18 is another long par 4 playing to a 2-tiered greeen. If the pin is on top, getting your approach shot to get up there and stay up there is an accomplishment.

We had drinks on the patio overlooking the course afterwards. A very beautiful place to have a beer and relax. The staff and other members we encountered were very friendly, none of that "country club snootiness" apparent here.

Hopefully my buddy invites me back soon...

There are really 2 courses here; a 9 hole murderous Donald Ross layout on the side of a mountain (bring a lot of golf balls) and an 18 hole "championship" course which is half Ross and half Gordon (his understudy, supposedly). There are a few standard golf holes, but many with unique character and most with greens that have a lot of slope and multiple breaks. This is a private course, so conditions are nearly always immaculate. Greens are very fast and steep. The 18 hole course is playable at many levels, but only an accomplished golfer will score well. The rest of us will still have a good time and not lose too many balls. This is NOT true on the "Hill Nine", where every shot is potential disaster. Mr. Ross must have been in a very bad mood when he laid that one out, although it is certainly a beautiful nine with striking views and holes you won't forget (although you might try to).
