This place is the bomb!
You'll feel like a kid in a candy store =)
They have a wide variety of polishes, comfy chairs, snacks and drinks.
The only thing: it's expensive.
This is my favorite place to get a mani/pedi in San Francisco and I'd say I've gone to my fair share of places. Given the level of service, the amenities, the value, and how its fairly close to my apartment, I really can't complain. It could get difficult booking an appointment if you don't call in advance but I think it's worth the wait.
First off, they have a great selection of colors to choose from including OPI, NARS, Chanel, etc., the chairs are really comfortable, they use sterilized equipment and very good products, the water temperature is good, the massages are nice, I love the hot lotion, they're detailed esp with the cuticles (which is very important to me) and they serve drinks and snacks AND have a CANDY BAR right where you dry your nails! How awesome is all of that? I seriously love how pampered I feel after my mani/pedi's from here.
I am giving it a ding though because one time the manicurist wasn't being very friendly and on top of that she accidentally cut my skin which took several days to heal. She did apologize and told the owner who also apologized.
Well, after reading the reviews for this place, I went ahead and booked a mani/pedi (plus silk nails for me) for my fiance and I prior to our wedding. I confirmed my appointment with them before we left Denver, and when we arrived for our appointment - nothing was right. They had scheduled just one basic mani/pedi. So, they squeezed us both in which was awesome; however, they didn't have me scheduled for silk nails. When they finally figured out how to get me in...the girl talked me out of silk nails, because she said they were too brittle so I went ahead with acrylic tips per her suggestion.
To make a long story short....it was all figured out, but i was at the spa over an hour longer than my fiance. The acrylics looked terrible on the spot, and the manager (who was fantastic and did aim to please) - had them repainted (just a simple light pink polish). Literally two days later -- the nails looked horrible, the paint was chipping, and they just looked unprofessional. I think I've painted my nails better in the past. They cracked several days later (I was on my honeymoon, people: i.e. being lazy, not working, not typing, etc.), and I ended up getting them removed at a nail place in Cambria. Talk about disappointment!! I was so bummed. I rarely spring for nails, and when I do - they tend to look fantastic. I've not had a bad experience until now.
Now, the one saving grace: absolutely fabulous pedicure!! I wish that my manicure had been 1/2 this awesome. My toes STILL rock....and it's been over two weeks. The massage and warm towel...the aromatherapy foot bath. Heaven! I gave three stars based on this fact alone. I say -- five stars on the pedicure, and 1 star on the manicure....I guess equal three stars?? The manager was also fabulous, and the staff was very friendly. The decor was cute, and I did enjoy the people watching. And no... I did not punish the staff for the crappy nails, 20% all around. Maybe I hit them on an "off" day, but I am still bummed.
By far the best nail salon in SF! Love it at Silk. The best mani/pedi's .If you like acrylic nails, "T" is the best technician in SF that I have ever been to. My nails are always exactly they way I want them in shape and length - they do not look like tips - they look very natural and she is really fast! They may cost a little more, but the level of service they offer and the atmosphere makes it totally worth it!
Very good selection of colors and a solid pedicure, but a few too many people making an "event" of it for it to be my style.
The $30 price tag is worth it, because they spend a full hour on your feet, which I appreciate. The snack buffet is a cute idea, although I didn't try much.
I will probably go back because it's so close to my apartment, but maybe on a more low-key day (i.e., not Saturday afternoon).
If you ever want a nice mani/pedi, this is your place! Great service, great quality of work and the best smelling home-made lotion ever!!! I am so lucky I live just a few blocks away...
5 STARS without a doubt.
Absolutely love Silk! Consistently excellent mani's and pedi's. My nails always look beautiful (balanced and even) and I've never been disappointed after 5 years of indulging here. The selection of nail polish colors and top end designer labels is to die for. Absolutely love the warm lotion massages -- just Yelping about it, makes me want to head there tomorrow. The complimentary goodies like bottled water, apple juice, tea ... and all the nibbles 'n sweets, really make this place extra special!
ps. They accept credit cards for the services, but the gratuity must be in cash.
Warm lotion, Saturday morning buffet, great massage, very attentive ... Silk is by far my fave place to go and be pampered. I highly recommend their special pedicures.
The only downfall to this place is the horrible muzak that the owner chooses. I don't even know how to describe it. Just bring your iPod.
After reading the reviews.. I went here,
5 stars for Tina who did the eyebrow waxing.... she did an amazing job. she took her time to make sure my eyebrows came out perfect but It was fast... I LOVE IT :)
I"ll definitely go back to visit SILK again.....
Cozy, comfortable, reasonable, friendly...awesome, awesome hand massages. I'll be back for a manicure again as well as a pedicure.
Not that I wasn't spoiled before, but now I'm double spoiled with warm lotion and a moist towel on top.
Will be driving into the City from my new home in the 'burbs cause NO ONE does it like Silk does. They even broke my habit of walking in and asking how long. I actually book appointments now!
Love to go on Saturday with a couple friends and book the upstairs room and nosh on the free buffet. Fat, happy AND pretty!
Wow. Just wow.
My kickass man bought me a gift certificate to here as we walk past every morning and I frequently say "Apparently this is one of the best places in the city"... Well, it definitely is.
Of note were the warm lotion massages where they dump a small bowl of steaming lotion and wrap your limbs in hot towels....mmmm
I love the large, plush cushions to sit back and relax while getting my nails perfected.
Also of note- this mani/pedi LASTED! I am a big ocean girl and I don't get mani/pedis in the summer becasue they last about 1 day after i'm in the surf. Mani lasted 1 week after 4 days of surfing and Pedi is still going strong 2+ weeks later!
***They should not allow cell phone use in here- paying patrons should not have to hear about how drunk you were last night...
Just for the warm mango lotion and the super long arm and leg massages, I'd give this place 5 stars. Most nail salons I've been to totally tease you with a 1 minute massage on your arms/legs and then it's over. At Silk, I kept dreading the end of the infamous warm mango lotion massage... but it kept going... and going... until I was so relaxed that I stopped bracing myself for the end. And then came the hot towels, which they wrap around your arms and legs. Ahhh... LOL
The place itself is very cozy. Lots of big chairs with lots of pillows so you can really lean back and just relax. I've been here 3 times so far and had great experiences every time. The mani/pedis last a long time too. I got a french mani/pedi and type at work all day, but it still looks like new after 2 weeks - especially the tips! Compared to other places, Silk is probably on the pricier side ($50 for french mani and pedi), but the massage and the fact that the polish stays intact for a while makes it well worth it.
I'd give Silk 4.5 stars if I could... I had to take away half a star because the lady who did my mani this time cut one of my fingers with her file (ouch) and somehow left a knick in another finger as well. She was very apologetic, so I didn't make a big deal about it. But it kinda sucked to feel the sting every time I washed my hands for the next few days.
Of course, that warm mango lotion made me forget all about those cuts, if only for a few... long... moments. ;)
I love Silk... have been going for years. Went again today, and was reminded of why I love it. Mellow music, nice but not snooty atmosphere, and really nice people. My nails were in pretty bad shape, and I left looking like a hand model. LOVE!
Only one star ding because sometimes its hard to get an appointment. But, well worth the additional planning it takes to save a spot.
One thing to note... they do take credit cards, but you have to tip in cash.
4.5 Stars for Tina and Nini who ROCK!!! Silk is on my way home and has started to be my go-to for manis since Recharge is somewhat outta my way now. :(
Mani ($18 and $21 for French): So far I've gotten 5 mani's at Silk all of which lasted more than 1 week WITHOUT one chip. YAY!!! In all those times, my nails were perfectly shaped and buffed. I am SUPER ANAL about my nails and tend throw a slight fit inside if they're are not painted perfectly. I can say each and every time, each nail bed was painted meticulously.
The french was done very well as well. You can tell these ladies have skill when they barely need to use a brush to clean up the polish.
The hand/arm massage is good although I don't understand the literal dosing of lotion to the point I can't even see my arm anymore. Anyhow, I digress.
Pedi ($28): The pedi's are ok. I normally don't like using pumice stones b/c they don't really get down to town. So, my only complaint is the type of tools they use for their pedi. But other than that, pretty good foot and leg massage and toes are painted well.
Variety of Colors: Thus far, I've never seen a salon with that many colors. Silk must have 150+ in Essie, OPI, Chanel, YSL, etc.
SERVICE: I love Tina and Nini! They are total sweethearts and I enjoy chatting it up with them when I'm there. But the owner is a bit errr ehhh not so friendly.
AMBIANCE: I love the plushy chairs that recline; very relaxing. Not so sure if the free candy (gummies and chocolate) is a good or bad thing yet. LoL! The space itself is not so sheee shee like Recharge and White Ginger, but you go more for the quality than anything.
I miss the complimentary shoulder massages at Recharge, but out of convenience will continue to get my Mani's at Silk!
Get your pedicure here!!!! Wait don't it might make it harder for me to get an appointment, Nah not at SILK they are so accomidating even a call late on Friday afternoon got me in on Saturday. You can read other reviews for the details on the treatment I am just writing to say that I am a prissy girl and this is a fabulous, within my pricerange, wonderful, hour well spent pedicure!
love love love Silk! Great massage, awesome techs, the upstairs is perfect for a group of three. The quality is great., you cant beat your own silver bowl filled with lavendar oil. The massage cream is heated, the towels are heated, its amazing. The ultimate experience. Totally makes me feel pampered, relaxed and special. The staff is so sweet and kind. Thank you Silk!!
I have been going to Silk off and on for about four years. I first found this place walking by one afternoon before I had a car in the city and my feet were killing me from walking around in heels all day. The service is spectacular, the women are always polite, the place is clean, and they do a great job massaging your feet and legs so that you leave feeling rejuvenated. I would say the only drawback is that you often need a reservation and it can be a bit more expensive than some other salons - but you're paying for quality so it's worth it if you're looking to leave feeling refreshed.
I have also had a massage at Silk and it was a great massage for a reasonable price. I always highly recommend this place to people in town and to locals looking for a good experience.
Seriously. If there isn't a place like this in heaven when I kick the bucket I'm going to be disappointed. Of course, I'll be dead, which hey, kind of sucks to begin with, right?
I have sparkly pink nails and toes, and nice brow arches, and I got to relax the whole time too. LOVE.

SHORT REVIEW: Yeah, pretty much what everyone else said. Clean,… Read more »
So I love Silk. The manicures and pedicures are all but indestructible.
They have an enormous collection of polishes - a good solid mix between new colors and old favorites - and if you can't find what you are looking for, just ask and they'll help you find it. Even if it means rooting about in the baskets of the other technicians.
But here's the best part - the chairs are the most amazingly comfortable arm chairs and the most basic manicure and pedicure comes with hot towels and warm lotion. The pedicure foot soak is amazingly relaxing.
And if you ding your polish they fix it - without you having to ask. I had the manager stop me once on my way out - she didn't like the way one of my toes looked. She fixed it on the spot.
Amazing.
My most recent trip here was on my birthday. They gave such prompt and great service...even better than other times I came. The hot lotion massages lasted at least 10 minutes and the mani/pedi came out PERFECT. Their technicians are always so precise, clean and kind! I love this place, not to mention they always have a great assortment of gossip magazines! I won't go anywhere else because the quality or work and service here is incomparable!

This place is quite delightful, especially on a Saturday!!! This place is higher end than the hole… Read more »
love this place! very relaxing and my nails are flawless.
WOW! If you wanna get your nails done, perfectly AND professionally, you MUST go to this place. Friendly staff and very clean. They do such a great job cleaning out all the crusties and filing your nails into a perfect shape. Dark colors are difficult to paint, but they did an EXCELLENT job. I hate it when the polish gets on the skin.
Surprisingly, I have a bad habit of picking at my nails when there is a slight chip or anything. I didn't have a single chip for over a week and a half!! Its amazing!! Unfortunately, you pay for what you get and it is pricier than a lot of nail salons. $45 for mani-pedi. But I think its well worth it if you want to treat yourself. They do get busy, so you MUST make an appointment.
If you like beautiful nail, you MUST come here!
Silk Nail Salon makes you feel like you really wrapped your self in Silk. It is one of the best Nail Salons I have been to.
I went last Saturday with a couple girlfriends who were treating me to a birthday surprise pedicure. They had a great little buffet set up as you walked in full of fruits, pastries, cheese & crackers, lox, juices, waters and more.
The chairs they seat you in are extremely comfortable. I could have sat there all day. The decor was cute and relaxing, putting you in a tranquil setting away from the busy street outside.
Background music was soft and great songs to listen to. The workers are really friendly and spend time on you, you don't feel like you are being rushed so they can get to the next client. I left completely satisfied with a great new color on my toes and soft feet.
I would really recommend going to Silk and enjoying some pampering!
I wish I could move this place to Los Angeles, where I currently reside. Found this place on my yearly pilgrimage to San Francisco. This is the best place to pamper your nails!
The best part, was Mimi, who gave me the most awesome manicure! The other lady who did my pedicure was pretty good. The salon is tranquil and relaxing. I would return in a heartbeat if I could...definitely will return when I am back in town.
I give 4 stars because I couldn't tip on my debit card. It really irritates me when I'm supposed to leave a cash tip and I'm not told ahead of time when I make my appointment.
Anyhow, I highly recommend this salon! Just bring cash for a tip =]
Heaven in a nutshell. Wow. This place is amazing. I am a broke college student trying to save money to travel so $30 dollars on a pedicure is not my first choice in life. BUT this Saturday I spent that $30 dollars on a pedicure and $15 on an eyebrow waxing and every penny was worth it.
They took me upstairs to this little private over looking room with three comfortable cozy chairs with pillows and offered me a mini water bottle. They soaked my feet in big silver bowls with yummy smelling plants in it (not sure what) and scrubbed my feet clean. They massaged my legs and toes with a warm milky cream and pampered me with warm towels to soothe my mood (and of course my feet). After they moved the tin bowl Tony my nail man, pulled a lever on my seat and it turned into a la-z-boy comfy chair. o man i was about to have an orgasm I was so comfortable. He slipped my sandals on and painted my nails so that I would be ready to go. He told me to eat while I waited for them to dry.
Saturdays they have a buffet for there costumers. while my nails where drying i was munching down on sushi, Japanese goodies with shrimp and who knows what else, cakes, cookies, pastries, drinks, candies buckets of anything and everything was ready to enter my mouth... It made drying nails time fly by.
After I stuffed my face with my well deserved $30 dollar pedicure they told me to walk two doors down and enter this small cave looking room, which i did, it was colored in peaceful decorations and the waxing lady was funny and very welcoming. "T" was her name, she did a great job on my brows.
When it was all done I felt as if an angel had taken me on a magical carpet ride! and my toes still look incredible.. They had such great colors there (besides OPI, they had... well I forgot the names of the nice companies but it was definitely upscale!) AND the BEST part of it all, i did not need an appointment.. They took me right in.
If i were you I would make an appointment and suggest to sit upstairs, it feels private and you over look everything. and there are heater fans upstairs! Also, if you have a sensitive smell and do not do good in areas with flowers and candles I do not recommend this place for you... but for me it was heaven!
YOU MUST GO NOW.
Loved the 10% discount from yelp. They did not skimp on the warm lotion, it was almost too much.
Didn't like: Decor: Not cushy or relaxing, but stark and drab and in major need of an update.
Major dislike: Manicurist: I requested square nail shaping, she proceeded to do squ-oval. I explained a second time and described in detail what I wanted and she still did not shape my nails as I asked. I was totally displeased with this and had to reshape them at home.
The technicians, sort of speak English, but not really. This is a problem for me. I will pay more $ to get the service I deserve and won't be going back to Silk. It's overpriced for what you get.
My partner and I went in for our mani/pedi date. No appointment made, just a walk in. We waited about 10 minutes before being led to the back part of the salon. It looked really clean and the wall to my right had all of the necessary licenses, sanitary awards and autoclaves etc. We were seated in very cozy lounge chairs with pillows. Mui did my pedi and I'm spacing on the Mani lady, but she was better. My manicure is always just a buff and shine, no polish. She took her time filing my nails to the perfect length, gave me a killer arm massage with heated mango lotion and made sure I loved the way my hands looked before leaving. Her energy was great.
The pedi was good in the end. The lady Mui who did it has very stale/angry energy. She is the only one who was chatting with the other operators (they didn't talk back to her). It was when my mani lady got up to get hot towels, that I grabbed the orange wood stick to clean under my nails. I knew she was going to get to it, but I wanted the thick lotion out now - it was buggin.
After I did that, Mui started gabbing and laughing. About me perhaps? I can only guess.
She gave a good polish, but when she brought out the complimentary flip flops, she started laughing again. Hey, I have size 10 feet - the only size flip flop they had was 8. It was fine to get to the car, but don't you think they should have more than one size? My partner has a size 6 and she was swimming in hers. The flip flops are very uncomfortable (for both of us) with some sort of strange rubber part on the bottom. Lesson learned, I bring my own next time.
I guess I would go back if I was in the area - but $98 for 2 mani pedi's?
Maybe prices are going up? But at that price, please don't laugh at my feet!
I won't lie, my feet were seriously busted up from the heels I wear to work and all the running I do on weekends. I was borderline embarrassed to even make an appointment for a pedicure because I didn't want anyone to have nightmares from looking at my feet. But after reading so much about Silk, I finally forced myself to make an appointment. And I am *so* glad that I did.
Hands. Down. The best pedicure I have ever received. From the bowl of flower water they soak your feet in to the creamy lotion and hot towels they use to massage your legs.... It's just an hour of pure heaven. And the entire time I was there, I never once caught a whiff of the typical "nail polish" smell you encounter in most nail salons.
Now I can't stop looking at my toes which are decked out in bright pink Chanel polish. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!!
For Christmas, one of my good girlfriends got me a gift certificate for a manicure here.
Three lovely ladies set an appointment for a Saturday afternoon.
1.) Brunch/free food: There was an array of cookies, cake, fruit, sesame balls, turkey wraps, and more. A lot of it was mediocre food you could get at a dim sum restaurant, but for the price (free) who can complain??
2.) Hand massage with warm lotion + hot towels = AMAZING.
3.) Service: Stellar! I hate getting manis and pedis where the employees chat amongst themselves in their native languages. I'm not trying to hate, but I find it extremely rude. Especially when they do so loudly and then point in your general direction. Anyway, you won't find that here - staff is very friendly, speak to each other in English and are unobtrusive, although the [owner?] lady seemed a little surly.
4.) Ambiance: Relaxing. The place is quite small but adorable. The sofas and chairs here are VERY comfortable.
Even the bathroom had lit candles all over inside. Fire hazard? Perhaps. Adorable? Definitely.
I don't know if I would come here regularly (since it's kind of pricey) but thank you Lauren for treating me!
I love Silk. I've been coming here for 3 years whenever I'm in town. I never feel bad dropping a chunk of change for getting my nails done because I never get my nails done any other time of the year. I just can't stand spending a similar amount of money at another place for half the service.
I first heard about Silk from Allure's Salon and Spa Directory. It's conveniently located just a few blocks away from my grandparents' apartment, so I make the short trek to get my nails done. I never have to wait long for my appointment, and they have an incredible selection of nail polish, magazines, and candies to snack on. The chairs for the services are incredibly comfy.
For the pedi, you get to submerge your feet in warm water with flowers in it. I suppose it's slightly cumbersome for the girls doing your nails to have flowers stuck to your feet, but it feels pretty amazing. My favorite part of the services are the massages and warm lotion. It feels amazing. Afterward, the polish job is almost always impeccable. I had my nails done 3 weeks ago, and my toe nails still look perfect even after ballroom dancing.
The service is fantastic. Even though I literally go like once a year when I visit my grandparents, the girls still remember me and the fact that I speak Cantonese. I've never had a problem with girls jabbering away loudly that you can find at other nail places. In fact, if they do speak in their native tongue, it's usually to ask me how I'm doing or how school is. Not only that, the girls are always exceptionally friendly and helpful. One time when moving to the drying stations, my shirt rode up from curling up in the comfy chairs, and they were nice enough to pull down my shirt riding up. When my cell phone was buzzing (cell phones are supposed to be off as common courtesy, but no one ever ever calls me except my mom), they offered to get it out of my purse, but alas it was in my pocket. Woe be me.
I wish I lived in San Francisco so I could get my nails done here all the time, but I don't. Until I finish school and get to move out to San Francisco (where it's a balmy 62F rather than -1F), I'm going to have to wait until I can go to Silk again. It's worth the wait.
Love Silk in general, and indeed the best business owner I've seen yet -- attentive, in-charge, knowledgeable, involved with the customers socially, and I like how she walks around and makes sure everything is okay.
The lady who waxes on Sundays is excellent, and also very sweet. She makes it as painfree as possible.
My only gripe is the lady who grabbed (yes, roughly grabbed) my ipod out of my lap to take a look at it while doing my manicure. Even if there is a linguistic barrier, why are you grabbing someone's stuff out of their lap?

I love Silk. I went on 2 recommendations, esp after hearing they use petal-infused bowls of water… Read more »
Okay i admit im 26/male and i have never gotten a pedi or mani so i did my yelp research and decided to give silk nail salon a try. I arrived and everyone there was very nice. One girl worked on my hands and one girl worked on my feet and the results were great. For the pedi they soak your feet in a warm rose petal lavender oil water which felt so relaxing. And to finish off the mani and pedi the ladies give you a relaxing hand and foot massage while sitting on their comfortable chair. I got up and couldnt believe how an hour just flew by. I definitely will return whenever i can.
Oh ya btw just mention you found them on yelp and receive 10% off your tab.
I enjoyed my first Silk experience today! I loved it! It was incredibly relaxing... and my nails look nice too!
This was my first pedicure from Silk and I enjoyed it. It was alot longer than I had expected almost 70 minutes. I have never had a pedicure in an over-sized bowl with leaves floating around, but it was nice. I left feeling very pampered with shiny nails.
The atmosphere was very relaxing, they had treats out for snacking and served tea. The service was excellent, all the ladies were very friendly.
I'd go back with a few friends.
This place is hard for me to judge, as it is not my cheap nail place, J.T. Nails, but it's not my favorite spa, Nob Hill Spa. It is right in the middle for me.
The space is nice, very clean. It is quiet and it doesn't smell like toxic fumes, like some nail places. It smells sweet and relaxing, if that exists.
I have had both manicures and pedicures there. Tony is my favorite for pedicures, don't steal him. For manicures, I don't really have a favorite, as I get a different person every instance I go.
I have the hot cream that they use on my arms and legs, it makes them glow. Remember, I am a man with body hair, so to find something that works is a little bit unusual. Most creams I don't really believe in, but I believe in what they use.
My nails always feel very clean after the entire experience, which I like. Some places that I have tried in the past, here and in NY do not leave that experience.
Alright, this is my favorite part. On Saturday, they have a wonderful food spread, with savories, sweets, and a nice drink selection.
So, Silks is my mid-level favorite nail place, but still a special place to try. It's comfortable and peaceful.
To those who want noise, there are lots of nail places where the nail people are on the phones the entire time.... This place isn't perfect, but it deserves a 4, maybe 4.5 if I could offer that.
After so many visits to other Bay Area nail salons, I just keep coming back to Silk even though it's a little out of my way. The staff is so friendly. The place is so clean. Don't even get me started on their candy selection...
Love, love, love Silk!
This place has very comfy chairs that are quite pretty. The atmosphere is like a cheap salon, but the prices are closer to a day spa ($30 for a normal pedicure ONLY). The polish color selection may be the best I've ever seen by far, and it is nice to have candy and such out waiting for you.
The pedicure itself was not great - the massage was not a massage as much as an annoying rub that outwore its welcome ten seconds in. The service was brusque (sp?), and the front desk clerk was pretentious and irritating.
I'll stick to Miss Kitty's, or Nali's place next to Luna, or Milk if I want fancy, or Union St, or, well, really anywhere but here.
