They now have a beautiful outside dining area to go along with the great food and a few good local brew selections.Silk City is a consistent performer we have been here many times and are never disappointed, good specials with great flare for out of the ordinary.Besides the entree's, you should try the backed mac, french onion soup, corn bread all are extremely good.

I've been a silk city goer for a sold 10 years. It was my go to breakfast/brunch place throughout college. I can only speak to their breakfast/brunch- I've never experienced their bar scene or beer garden but I'm keeping it on my list of places to check out....
Most recently I went to brunch with my man- I had the pork belly and sweet potato hash. I liked it but after awhile had to stop eating because be became overwhelming- I think it would be better in a smaller portion. He had the crabcakes eggs benedict and enjoyed it very much.
Its definitely a good brunch spot- just a slightly pricey. -

I remember when I used to come here for all of their insane dance nights pre-Barbary. Those were a magical time, but, for me, it was the past.
Fast forward to today and I still enjoy Silk City for different reasons: their bangin' brunch. I really believe that if Silk hadn't have stepped up their food menu and brought their brunch game, they could have faded away quickly. I know Silk is still a popular place to go, but other than their food I haven't really been impressed with their nightlife schedule lately.
On my most recent trip here, I got a pretty decent sized mimosa (a little pricey but whatevs...it's brunch), quick service, and a meal that wasn't too small or too big. The menu has lots of choices and it's one of those menus where you want everything no matter what type of food you had been craving all morning. Everything reads so delicious! I got an omelet with feta and asparagus. Perfect size.
Only thing I would suggest is if you don't mind waiting a little, opt for a seat in the dining car, not in the lounge. Even during the day, the lounge can be a little dark. Can't wait until warmer weather when I can brunch in their backyard! -

Ugh, another vegetarian disappointment. What's crazy, is that I remember this place having pretty good vegetarian food at some point -- but more recently they are just into serving up the meat. They don't have ANY vegetarian entree options. They used to have this awesome cornbread battered tofu dish that I liked so much I would order it just about every time I went there. Now nothing? The only options are a grilled cheese, or an eggplant sandwich (with roasted red peppers, OF COURSE): that's just great, "let's get the two slimiest vegetables and put them on a sandwich together and serve it to the vegetarians! That will keep 'em from coming here"!
I "liked" them on Facebook a while back, so now I see their specials menu every day when they post it. There are almost NEVER any vegetarian things on the specials menu. It really bums me out.
I give it two stars because the cocktails are awesome. The brunch is still pretty good (you usually can't go wrong with breakfast food, even for vegetarians) and They make a great Bloody Mary. -
Review from Noah G.
Although I've always enjoyed my nights here masquerading as a flannel wearer, this review is strictly for the Sunday brunch.
Saturday night saw a few highs and a lot of lows and I awoke Sunday morning with a Kobiyashi type appetite (the hot dog eater not the Usual Suspect). Since I was already dressed when I crawled out of bed there was only one obstacle standing in the way of fulfillment, where should we go?
Boo suggested SC and I was in no shape to argue with her so I went with it. After one glance at the menu I realized this was exactly what I was looking for. The waiter / bartender came to the table and I asked him how the bloodys were. He said that he actually takes a lot of pride in his bloodys and if I'm a fan I'll really enjoy his.
I wanted to hug this dude. I love bloody Marys and it's just the worst when your are trying to get the morning out of your eye so you order a bloody and it's Mrs. Ts and vodka. One sip out of this guys bloody and I was a believer.
I ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of cheesy grits and some fried green tomatoes. Let me say that since that brunch I've been having that exgirlfriend type dream about the chicken where I wake up in the middle of the night, look over to the night stand and there's no plate there. It was perfectly crispy and the waffles were soft and chewy with the perfect amount of syrup.
The fried green tomatoes are breaded and fried and come with a sriracha mayo. Mmmm mmmm, delicious!!
Boo got the layered Mexican dish (after my first bite of chicken everything else was a blur so I can't remember what it's called) and it was very underwhelming. Way too much tortilla. But this isn't about her, it's about me and my special dish.
I would definitely recommend this brunch to chicken lovers, bloody lovers, and anyone that enjoys eating a hybrid breakfast / lunch combo. -

I had seen the triple D episode long ago but did not remember what city this was in. Enter my brother who lives here, and he insisted we brunch it here on our last day in town. We got seats in the lounge, and our hostess was kind enough to give me a chair with a back on it.
At the bar, I ordered yuengling draft ($3) - it had been 6 years since I last had one in Pittsburgh. Pretty darn good. Then, my bro and I split some Thai chicken wings - deeeeelicious and crispy! I was torn between the beet salad (which is becoming a permanent menu fixture soon), the tofu scramble, and secretly the chicken and waffles. I ended up taking the bartender's suggestion for the beet salad.
Golden and red beets, arugula, pistachios, whipped feta, soooo yummy. This is very much a "me" dish. My husband had the chilaquiles (essentially Mexican-ish lasagne out of corn tortillas) and a bloody mary. My brother had the shrimp omelette special with creamed leeks. We all left satisfied and very full. Cool atmosphere and a long menu of tasty treats to try when I ever get back to town. -

Oh Silk City! You amaze me every time I come visit you!
Your ever-changing menu, fun dance beats, and the beer garden! This establishment is 3 places in one! I've come here for brunch, dinner in the beer garden, and their famous Thursday night dance party with Sammy Slice and Cool Hand Luke. First, let's talk food. They have nightly specials which are great to try, and I have experienced their glorious mussels, flat bread, mac and cheese, and fried green tomatoes. Lots of choices on their menu, but the servers know their stuff, and give great recommendations! Outside is their beer garden that is open in the warmer months with a bar and complete with tables and umbrellas for those group outings. Finally, their dance parties.
I look forward to Thursday nights here because the scene is incredible, always a mixed and diverse crowd of college-age to early 30s. Ladies, no need to wear heels. This place is casual, and you WILL be dancing hard. Also, you can easily grab dinner before hand since the dance area doesn't really pick until after midnight. And it gets insanely crowded! This is the place to be on a Thursday - year round! Just make sure your alarm is loud so you can wake up for work on Friday!Listed in: Meet me at the bar, friends!

Silk City is a great brunch option. They dont do reservations, so like all brunch places be prepared to wait. The hangover sandwich is my favorite option. Putting scrapple on a sandwich is GENIUS. I will take scrapple any way I can get it and it just so happens that this does make me feel better after a hangover. But...scrapple makes me feel better on a good day. I'm just a PA gal through and through.
Vibe is very chill; it's hisptery but who cares. No ones gonna rush you out and its not stuffy. -

Went to the Hip Hop Dance Party. It wasn't packed which surprised me but the DJ's were KILLING it on the 1's and 2's. The music mix was amazing, full of bass and ended with some Baltimore Club. I had one drink, which wasn't overly expensive and had a nice kick to it. I would love to go back and try their menu for brunch one day then review it again.

One word comes to mind when I think of Silk City.. Overrated. Admittedly diners do usually fall low on my "where to eat" list and it took a bit of convincing from a friend to actually enter this establishment, it was still a dive experience from the get go. We ordered the garlic crusted mac & cheese as an appetizer, it was mediocre at best. On to browsing through the menu.. I was pretty set on ordering the grilled portabella sandwich only to be informed by the waitress that they no longer offer that sandwich. Call it a pet peeve, but it bothers me beyond belief when something is listed on a menu but not available to order. I settled for the grilled chicken sandwich, dry chicken - soggy bun. I have no comment on my friend's order aside from the fish n chips reeking of grease. Their fries is what earned them two stars in my book.

YESSSSSS!!! Silk City has the best Bloody Mary in Philadelphia! The Croque madame is savory and sweet, and crunchy and PERFECTION. The chicken and waffles is also amazing. The decor is super funky & the atmosphere is relaxed. The staff is friendly & helpful, and they always offer great recommendations if you're looking to try something new.

Review from Vichet O.
This review is for drinking and dancing on Saturdays at Silk City.
Pros:
- Cheap. From cover to drinks, I've never spent more than 30 bucks in this joint.
- Great music courtesy of DJ Deejay.
- Bathrooms that are, surprisingly... well, not shitty.
- It's just a cool space, man.
- Lots of fun people... but more on this below.
Cons:
- Lots of obnoxious people, too.
- Well, way too many people in general.
- The bass doesn't need to be quite that loud. Once I can feel it in my balls killing my sperm, maybe it's a bit excessive.
Silk City, I want to love you. You have a lot of my favorite things, and can't be blamed for not carrying prostitutes. But, there's something just a little off with your Saturday night soiree, and I think I know what it is. Suffice to say that I like you, but you got some things to work on, and I don't know if it's in your power to change them.
See, I've spent lots of time around drunk people. Way more than is probably healthy. In fact, I'm not sure how I've managed to not punch someone/get punched in the face at a bar yet. And yet, somehow, the drunks at Silk City take the cake.
I can only imagine that everyone at Silk City on a Saturday assumes that they're like that mutant from X-Men that no one paid attention to. You know, the one who can walk through walls, and people and stuff... Kitty Pryde? Well, yeah, they can't walk through walls, or people, but they kinda try to anyway. Again. And again. And a third time after I look him/her right in the face and say "hey, take it easy. Standing right here, bud." Even better, they have an attitude about it. As if blaming me for, you know, existing in the corporeal plane. This is especially annoying when the person is large enough to eat me and ask about dessert five minutes later.
Anyway, I think Silk is probably a lot more fun on their less popular nights. I love the space itself, the music, and everything except the people who go there. Let's put it this way - if someone as douchey as me is saying that a crowd somewhere needs to learn some manners... well, yeah.
Pro-tip:
- I would not wear open toe shoes here, ladies. You will get stepped on. -

Philly oh Philly. How i love thee! Such a selection of places to eat with sooo little time. What to do what to do?
Plan your day accordingly i always say.
After a few places were super full we ended up here. Obviously after reading some yelp reviews...lol
Silk City Diner looked like it would not dissappoint and everyone in our party collectively agreed. The wait was short and the food came quick and the service was good. Not great....just good. It is hard to find great service now adays but it is what it is. Sitting outside on such a beautiful day is highly recommeneded. Everything on the menu looked amazing! I had a traditional breakfast platter with eggs, bacon and some whole wheat toast and home fries. All i can say is that it was delicous and i wanted seconds! thirds! and yes even fourths! I was soo enamored with my breakfast that i really didn't pay attention to the other dishes on the table. : )
Silk City Diner - see you on my next visit!

COVER.. Ugh, I hate cover.
BRUNCH - 3 Stars

food was meh.
Menu didn't excite me.
Love the outside seating area, which is super cool especially if you have a big group. This is a solid place for dancing, random late night eating, and hanging out. -
Review from Callan W.
In the last few months, I have had quite a few reasons to pop by Silk City...and while each time was completely different, each time delivered a great evening...I will recommend going on a Saturday as opposed to Friday...DJ DeeJay is definitely the best when it comes to keeping the party going....plus you can tweet song requests...
The dance floor gets a bit crowded as the night goes on, but get your drinks in early and ride out the night in your own little corner...or else you will be elbowing your way through the crowd to get your good time juice.
Maybe someday I will be able to experience the beer garden or the diner...but for now, I can't help but get my groove on in the lounge.... -

I want a Silk City in Brooklyn!
This combination dance-club/diner/beirgarden truly has something for everyone. Since it was Allison B's birthday, we pretty much stuck to the dance floor.
Drinks were reasonably priced (le sigh Philly), and DJ Deejay played songs that 90% of the crowd knew 90% of the words too. AND he took requests via Twitter, which at first I thought was stupid, but THEN I realized that I could constantly tweet song requests without having to stop dancing to fight my way through the crowd. "Party in the USA" please? -

Thursday nights at Silk City are poppin', 'nuff said. DJ Sammy Slice is always spinning awesome music and the bartenders are great. The crowd is always full of energy. Go if you want to dance your ass off and don't care about sweating a little.
Brunch is also amazing at Silk City - this is the only place in the city that I've had brunch and truly enjoyed both the food and overall experience. Everything on the menu is good, but I'll recommend the smoked salmon omelette if it's on the menu when you go. -

Gets a little crazy here at night. On another note the food and drinks here are the bees knees. I love going to Silk for breakfast, best breakfast menu, the juevos rancheros are to die for and they have the best bloody mary's I have had in the city. I love the outdoor area in the summer! Dinner is also great, but not as good as breakfast, the purple rain drink is wonderful! Go to Silk at some point if you live in Philly!

Silk City is our go-to place for amazing affordable food. We're there once a week at least, no lie. The drinks are a bit pricey, but well made. I highly recommend the Painkiller, an amazing combination of aged rum, coconut milk, pineapple juice, and grated nutmeg. Delicious! Blows any Pina Colada I've ever had out of the water.
Don't pass up the cheese fries for something fancier. The housemade white cheddar cheese sauce is out of this world, and the ample scallions they sprinkle on top nicely cut through the richness of the cheese sauce.
The Asian spiced tuna burger is made with sushi-grade tuna, so order it rare topped with caramelized onions and sauteed mushrooms. A friend of mine who owns a Japanese restaurant (that features a tuna burger on its menu) said it was the best tuna burger he ever had.
Everything on the standard menu is good, but I urge you to order from their daily special menu. Some things I've seen and had recently: Jersey Peach soup, fried fish BLT, spiced lamb burger, housemade gnocchi with sauteed pumpkin and fennel sausage, fig and goat cheese flatbread, and fried chicken steak po' boy. All amazing! -

Weird. My review is based on brunch and I think I have a hard time embracing the creepy black light velvet poster night club vibe for brunch. The food was "ok" but exceptional enough to make me rush back. The coffee was fabulous. The service was AWFUL. We waited almost 20 minutes just for our first cup of coffee.

So, I've been to Silk city 3 times and had experiences all over the spectrum.
1st time was terrible and I didn't go back for a very long time. My first mistake was coming here the same night PhillyTonight was here. ugh. It was too crowded to dance, too crowded to get a drink, too crowded to breathe, and too many drunk biddies spilling drinks on you. (1 star)
2nd was fine. I came for dinner on a week night. The wait was kind of long, but it was ok because we weren't in a hurry. The food was pretty good, although a little pricey for what it is, and the service was alright. (3 stars)
3rd was really pleasant. I went for a friend's 21st birthday on a Sunday evening (at midnight). We had a party of 9 and sat out in the beer garden in perfect fall weather. Most of the drinks tasted great, although shots/mixed drinks are pretty pricey here (if you're here for beer, the prices are great). About $13 for a long island that wasn't very good. The bartender makes these chocolate cake shots, which may or may not just be chocolate vodka that they garnish with a sugar coated lemon wedge. YUM! It was an incredibly pleasant night filled with yummy drinks. (5stars)
Avg: 3 stars. So, it seems this place is pretty hit or miss. Most things are a bit on the pricey side. The food is pretty good. I like it better at times when it is less crowded. -

A hipster diner cum lounge with a full bar - what a concept. I would definitely watch a show about the people who work here, à la "2 Broke Girls," except with Northern Libs replacing Williamsburg.
My friend and I actually stumbled upon this place while searching for Honeys... But we had had a late start, saw this place first, and uh... did I mention we were hungry? A dude leaving the diner (I'm pretty sure he was wearing a deep V and a fedora, but my imagination might just be embellishing...) told us that we'd have to wait 45 minutes at Honeys for food that wasn't as good. That's all it took - we were sold!
We shared the Silk Benedict and french toast (ours I think had cinnamon apples and sweetened ricotta, not the blueberry jam and lemon curd as described on the online menu). The Silk Benedict was definitely not your standard eggs benedict; crab cakes instead of an English muffin, smoked salmon in place of ham, and old bay seasoning in the hollandaise. I think that last bit is the real kicker... Whatever it was, this was a mouthful of flavor - and oddly sweet, maybe from the crab? Anyway I was kind of surprised at first, but it grew on me quickly. The french toast was a bit dry but thoroughly satisfying with all the toppings.
They serve bottomless La Colombe coffee here, which is definitely my weakness. I'll be back for the cocktails - either at brunch OR after hours. How many diners can you say that about? -

With over 250 reviews, there's almost no point, so I'll just give you the the essentials:
--There was a $5 cover to get in (i didn't hit the beer garden or diner part, cool as they looked)
--Some mofo's here can seriously cut rugs, like music video style; I cannot. Emmett is more like Elaine Benes at the company Christmas party, but i didn't feel out of place, so i think the rest of you bad dancers won't either.
--AC was kicking so this profuse sweater was dry all night, even with the weird booty shaking I was doing
--dress code is fairly lax, but something i wish i knew before coming: THEY LET YOU WEAR SHORTS
--cheap to moderately priced drinks, i.e.- Red Stripe and Lagunitas IPA were $4, and the few mixed drinks (cap'n and ginger, vodka tonic, etc) I saw bought were $5
--If you've had a secret desire to see my nipples, start watching youtube, for they are bound to be there after Friday night's anticsListed in: Boozin' in Philly

I still enjoy coming here for their weekly Thursday night party: Mo Money No Problems. DJs Sammy Slice and Cool Hand Luke, along with Mike Taylor on the mic hyping up the crowd, always provide a good dance party.
No cover for girls, guys are $5. Drinks are decent. Crowd is like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're gonna get (very eclectic crowd). It gets packed around midnight and so it gets very hot in here too so be prepared to sweat a little and/or have sweaty people around you. FYI, there are also black lights along the wall so please make sure you take care of that dandruff and run that lint roller over your clothes. Kthnxbye.Listed in: NoLibs Swag

Not much I can add except maybe a different perspective? And my review is solely for the lounge...
I would come here anytime to dance any night, all night long. As others have mentioned, most people are just here to dance, they always have great DJs (I love you, PHSH), and most importantly: that AC pumps and I felt cool and breezy all night long...
I would never come here to look for a guy. Maybe I've been out of the club scene too long, but all the guys looked too old and shady, as well as just plain angry? maybe I just mean hostile? Definitely not my scene in that respect, altho-ooo-ough I heard recently that Chooch hangs out here sometimes, so maybe I'll have to add an exception to that statement...
I love the back corner of the bar. Take it over with friends and you'll have room to dance and sit and laugh. not to mention steady access to quick drinks.
Speaking of, reasonably priced beers and surprisingly fast and good bartenders. The bouncers are good at their jobs and surprisingly nice, too. Especially Roscoe, who was kind when he caught me outside with a beer and actually f%&ked around with my head using the flashlight from the door instead of just grabbing me. Which I thought was a cool way to flag me... and funny, to boot. -

I can't believe my first review of Silk City took place almost three years ago. Time flies. Interestingly enough, I still find the three star rating to be consistent with my experiences there over the years. At this point, I've now had meals on a couple different occasions, sat in the beer garden several times, and even hit up the dance floor again.
The food is average at best. Some things are better than others, like the fresh cut fries with cheese sauce and scallions (unbelievably delicious) or the Thai chili glazed wings. Other items completely underwhelm: A buffalo chicken salad that I could have made at home with some iceberg, baked chicken strips and Frank's hot sauce; the fried chicken with smothered chorizo green beans. I'd recommend sticking to apps and sandwiches for best results.
The beer garden is cute and fun; screaming kids and their obnoxious parents who ignore them are not. I dig family friendly places when children behave, but there should be a no-running policy or something. Yes, I sound like Mr. Wilson. No, I do not care. Get off my lawn.
Silk City's dance floor remains one of the few places in the city where it's fun to dance. Even though I find the DJs to be hit or miss, and erring on the top 40 side, I still like having the option.
Everything said, I'll take the good with the bad for an occasional trip to Spring Garden's iconic diner.Listed in: Fried Chicken, Dancey Pants, Beer Gardens

Be there by 12 or you will have to wait in line.
My mom wanted to check out this place because we drive by it every day and she saw it on t.v. We went for brunch Sunday morning and waited about 10 minutes to be seated outside. The server is a little slow and the food took 30 minutes to come out.
The food came out in big portions and were pretty good. It would have been better if the food was hotter though.
It seems like people really like to sit there for a long time after they ate. We're the type of people that goes, eats, and gets out. There are other people waiting and we don't want to just sit around! =P
I'd definitely come back to this place sometimes. -

Not your typical diner, and that's a good thing! If you're hung-over (since Silk City is also a night club, it's possible you are), you can stumble into the diner and get some really fabulous hangover food.
Granted, you must appreciate good food. Waffle House this is not.
Try the Silk Benedict. -

I came here last night pretty late in the night, around 2 AM I think. It wasn't bad at all, the cover was $5 and the people who worked at the door seemed cool. When you go in there's two sections, I turned left and it was a big dance floor with a DJ and a step that leads to a couple tables and a bar. I think if you turn right it goes to a diner or something. The lighting is pretty cool, it's some weird red and blue theme. There was an Asian girl bar tending who was really nice and friendly and she did a good job of noticing everyone standing at the bar waiting to buy drinks. One of the Four stars I gave this place is for her.
I'm not sure how it is normally but last night there was a good number of black people so for those of us who are used to feeling out of place at all the white/Indian bars downtown, this can be a nice change.
The DJ played OK songs but I felt like too much of it was old and played out. Everyone was too drunk to care though so the dance floor was packed with people dancing the whole time.
But yeah, overall not bad of a place. A nice spot to check out with the some friends just to see what it's like. -

Have you had their fried chicken?OMG... I almost NEVER order fried chicken at a restaurant, but the girl at the table next to me ordered it, and it looked delicious, so I decided to as well. It came with mashed potatos, jalapeno cornbread (which I LOVED), and I ordered spinach with mine.
My food was soooo good! Silk City was already one of my favorite places to eat. but the buttermilk chicken just solidified it for me.Listed in: Brunch/Breakfast Spots

SILK CITY! I Used to love you, but now I only come for the mac n' cheese, the fried chicken, or roast beef sandwich. Brunch is good as well. But some of the food is just okay and I feel like they need to pay more attention to quality and taste. I had pierogies here once and they were overwhelmingly flavorful, so much so that I had a headache.
Let's talk about their cocktails, they are not good. I haven't had one cocktail here where I go "Yeah, yup.. gonna get drunk on these they are so good." Nope, even the most basic drinks taste awful! I ordered a gin & tonic while my friend ordered a margarita. Mine was overpowered with gin while hers was WAY TOO tequila infused and salty. Not like the bartender had just lined the rim with salt but had thrown a handful of salt into the drink. Gross, tasted like the ocean. Now specialty cocktails, during the winter I had one of their spiked apple ciders that included SNAP liquor. I thought "They can't mess this one up, can they?" Nope, they did. It was so bad, the flavors did not harmonize what-so-ever.
In terms of parties, Thursday nights Mo' Money No Problems is awesome. Besides that I've only been here a handful of times for various events and they are all super fun. -

If yelp only had half stars. I rounded up for you Silk City because I like your food and beer selection.
I most recently came here with a group of friends as the last stop on a beer garden bar crawl. We were able to be seated pretty quickly with a large group and we had very good service. We sat at a large table in their garden and I ordered the mussels. I really enjoyed them. They were served with fries over them (not too many) and each of the mussels besides being cooked perfectly, actually tasted like the sauce. That's tricky to do but they pulled it off.
I'd definitely say come for the food and beer. Sit outside in the nicer months and you'll have a good time. Skip dancing in the other side because they charge a cover that I don't feel is worth it. There are other close places to dance for free. -

When I feel like staying in Northern Liberties but making the trek down to Spring Garden I'll stop by Silk City. Nightlife's pretty good, but unfortunately they have a $6 cover for the dance side of the place.
Is it worth it? Occasionally, but there are places close by that have dancing with no cover (see 700 Club and Finnegan's Wake). The DJ is good, just a hard time justifying the cover.
I'd given this place 4 stars except for the cover. -

I looove this place and the whole atmosphere. Its definitely not like any other, and the people are not obnoxious at all! The place can give off, as it is being called, a "hipster" vibe, so if you dont like that, then maybe you shouldnt go here. but in my opinion, the people that make up the crowd are the best part! its what makes silk city, silk city. gets pretty filled especially on the weekends and fridays. youll definitely meet some interesting people though for sure :)

i missed the memo to consume mind altering drugs before coming here for a night of dancing. everyone else, however, was fully aware and grooooovin to the beat. EXCELLENT people watching.
i also appreciated that the bathroom(s) had extra toilet paper. nothing fun about bar bathrooms without TP. -

Come with a large group to ensure good times.
Wish the DJ would play what I requested. -

Got a couple of items to share. The Perogies were good, but $10 for 2 is a bit steep. The side of spinach was over cooked and drenched in garlic, butter, salt, and oil - they'd be a lot better off just steaming it. The special veal flank steak came with fried green tomatoes and cheddar grits and the overall result was great.
The patio atmosphere was fun and our servers were great. Very attentive and pleasant. Overall good experience!
