Pure ridiculousness. I was torn on whether to give this zoo 1 or 5 stars. If you are expecting anything akin to a "regular" zoo, you will be severely disappointed. It's as if some hick drove a few chain-link fences into the ground in his backyard and plopped some poor, unsuspecting animals behind them. There is poo all over the ground and the cages are piss-poor. The most ridiculous zoo on the face of the planet. But what do you expect - it's RENO!
FIVE STARS FOR THE LIGER! He was the only reason we went, afterall.

Sadly, Hobbs the Liger has passed away.
Which leaves the bird display (sponsored by a local bird-fancier group) as the best attraction: the birds looked happy and entertained, sitting on their perches under the trees.
As for the rest of the zoo....well, it's a roadside zoo. Small enclosures, some of them empty (maybe those animals died), some designed so it's hard to see the animals, missing, incorrect, and illegible informational signs, etc. I wish they had more information on the animals: where did they come from? How did the zoo acquire them?
That said, the kids appeared to be enjoying the petting zoo, and I was pleased to see so many happy-looking teen-aged volunteers.
