Sweet & savory crepes, panini's, hot drinks, a wine selection- just add friends!

Only downside is the place is super tiny and fills up quick.  Improve your experience by eating here during off hours (not during regular lunch or dinner hours).

When in Mammoth, I tend to alternate breakfast between here and bagels. They can add egg to any crepe, putting a little extra protein in there.  The batter they use for their savory crepes is good stuff, sturdy yet light.  Their coffee is also some of the better stuff around.  You should pull out of here under $10.

The only real ding against them is that they use canned mushrooms.  I've still got a place in my heart for the rubbery stuff of teenage pizzas, but my companion ended up picking many of hers out.

Two words...charcuterie plate.   Now don't tell anyone else about this place or I'll have to kill you.

This is how apres ski should be done.

Pretty chill place..

I stayed over at the condo right across from it and never knew it existed till i was dying for some good tea/coffee and went on a seearch..

( no starbucks near by..wahhh ahha)

The place was pretty packed..
Ordered a berry tea (eh , decent) . I wasnt too impressed with the place but its probably because i didnt really give a fair chance. I just bought my tea and walked straight out to play w/ snow..

next time im in mammoth, i'll come check out the crepes..

Nothing beats crepes and hot chocolate at the end of a ski day!! Unfortunately there isn't much seating here (unless you sit outside) so make sure you aren't going during prime time (lunch or 4pm). The staff is young and a little aloof but they get the job done in keeping the restaurant clean and the service fast.

After a day of traveling, we arrived in Mammoth a bit late and needed to find something to eat at 10:30 p.m. on a Friday night.  Most of the restaurants in the Village were already closed and Hennesy's, next door, wasn't serving food anymore.

I decided to check out the cute cafe next door because the word "crepe" caught my eye.  The place was fairly empty, so service was quick.  I ordered the chocolate and banana crepe, my staple sweet crepe (easier to compare), and a cappuccino.  Both were delicious and met, what my friends called my High M(aintenance?) standard.  Their crepe was a hundred times better than Antoine's from Canyon Lodge (see my review).

Their late night menu included sweet crepes, coffee, and paninis.  While I had the crepe, my friends had the paninis and weren't at all impressed; however, they were happy they were able to find something to eat.

I loved their espresso so much, I had to grab a cup just before we left for the weekend.

Pros:  Delicious crepes and espresso; they take plastic; they serve wine (I'll have to try it next time!); and the ambiance is cute.

Cons:  The sandwiches were really plain, it wasn't served with a side salad (nor was it offered) or anything to complement the meal.  Though the cafe looks cute, the place has no real vibe.

Excellent crepes, paninis and a full service wine bar with a wonderful 'cave'.

The galettes (buckwheat crepes) filled with ham, cheese, spinach and a variety of other tasties are a great lunch off the mountain.

Follow one up with a sweet crepe with Nutella filling and a cafe au lait made with Loony Bean coffee.

Update: Service sucked at my last visit - and they weren't even busy.

Huge wine selection, though the by-the-glass options are expensive and not that intriguing - perhaps to encourage people to buy a bottle? Good paninis, albeit on the small side for the price (especially if you've been skiing all day).  There are some items on the menu that seem wildly overpriced (like a bowl of soup for $6.50 - a small bowl), and while good, aren't that good.  The dessert crepes on the menu looked interesting, but nothing flew off the page.  Color me jaded - I've been to more than my fair share of creperies on the other side of the Atlantic, so I need more than bananas and nutella to be convinced.

I'd go back to this place to see how it fares during a busier time of night, and whether the enthusiastic (if sloppy) service is still there.  We dined at the ridiculously early hour of 6 pm on a Friday night, and easily got one of the 5 indoor tables.  Not sure if that's the case any later however.

Stopped by here last Saturday after hearing recommendations from friends to try the Nutella crepes.

We arrived a little after 10pm for dessert.  The place was still relatively packed and busy, so we just ordered from the Take Out line.  The guy taking orders was friendly and polite, and didn't show any sign of being flustered by the crowd.   We waited no more than 10 minutes to receive our orders.

I tried the Nutella & Banana crepe, and was not disappointed!  It was hot and delicious with a generous topping of powdered sugar.  The other crepes that my friends ordered also looked quite tasty.
I can't wait to go back and try Side Door's other menu offerings.

4 instead of 5 stars because of the slightly steep pricing on simple crepes... but overpricing is really nothing new in a resort town like Mammoth.

Hubby and I just mountain biked down the "downtown" trail from Mammoth and wanted breakfast.  We walked into the bagel place up the street and they were REALLY rude, so I walked out.  Hubby really wanted his bagel, so he stayed and I went for a search for something else, not knowing where anything was.  I didn't go far and found the Side Door Cafe.  When I saw "crepes" on the door I heard the "aaaahhhhhh" from the heavens.  I had just expressed a craving for crepes an hour earlier.  My experience here could not of gone better from the polite young men behind the counter, to the crepes which I took to go (to meet my husband and his rude bagels) and the cost.  I ordered a cafe late' extra hot and they did not disappoint.  It was really good.  I ordered a sweet crepe and it was fabulous.  I even liked the to-go container which was a thick paper plate covered in tin foil.  I'm glad I didn't stick around for the artificially flavored cream cheese and found this little gem.  I took my husband back here the next morning.  The ladies here were just as polite as the young men the day before.  Hubby got one of the lunch type crepes and it was huge and really good and I a sweet one .  We got them to go again and went to a quiet out of the way spot in nature to eat them.  So what if the place gets packed easy.  You are surrounded by nature.  Take it to go and enjoy the solitude somewhere.

Side Door Cafe is right in The Village at Mammoth.  I wanted to grab a quick bite for dinner by myself so I got the club panini and a cappuccino to go.  Both were really, really good.  It was a little expensive though--almost $13, which seems a little steep.  They also had $5 wines and $3 beers.  Cool little spot.

My buddy's condo is in walking distance to the Village so, when I decline invites for fishing excursions and the like I find myself trolling the Village for my entertainment. As of late this has become far less satisfying with the many closures and odd stores that have cropped up. This past weekend I decided to avoid the fishing , Troutstock Festival, and the hellish winds by camping out somewhere in the Village. The one place I had never been was the Side Door so I figured I'd give it a shot. I grabbed a book and trekked on down to find the place mostly empty as it was about 3pm. I camped out at a table in the back of the bar, ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and cracked my book. The bartenders and owner all kept me happy with more wine, a delicious panini and an insanely good chocolate banana crepe in the time I was there. They were also very friendly and accommodating considering I took up one of their tables for over 3 hours! They never once gave me the feeling that I should be done already or be on my way. In fact, as I sat there longer, they began to have friendly conversations with me about various things anytime I'd look up from my book. I will definitely be returning to the Side Door on future trips since we all know I love my wine and it sure keeps you warm in the snow!

The paninis are great.  They look pretty small from the get-go, but they are very filling.  I was a little disappointed with the crepes.  I had the strawberry crepes and wished the filling was more fresh, instead of tasting like it came out of a jelly jar.

I love this place!  Nothing beats their grilled chicken and pesto crepe!  The selection of wines is the best you'll find in town (albeit more expensive than at Vons, but well worth it).  They also sponsor "Wine Walks" a few times a year in which you walk around the village with a wine glass you receive upon check-in and have a taste in each of the stores.  My husband and I enjoyed the first Valentines day wine walk in 2006 even though it was about 15 degrees, windy and snowing.  They also have poetry readings and spoken word on certain nights if you like that sort of thing.
