I worked with Amy to cater 2 full days of events for a conference. It was a lot of people, there were tons of special diet needs, and we were working on a small nonprofit budget. Amy went above and beyond - guests are still talking about the food, even the special diet folks felt special, the service was outstanding, and I am so grateful that Amy was willing to get creative to help us stay within our budget. Plus, she and her staff are so friendly! I've worked with a LOT of caterers - the personal and hands-on approach combined with the truly outstanding food really makes Side by Side stand out.

Lived on Side by Side home delivery when my baby was new, and will love them forever.
Had a baby in Palo Alto in April, and my best friend (who lives in Virginia) wanted to be able to cook for us, so she got us three meals a week for a month, delivered by lovely Amy on Tuesdays. It was a fantastic, fantastic new baby present--a minor miracle to be able to open the fridge and find healthy & delicious food waiting for us. We tried a bit of everything and were big fans of the korean-style grilled steak, jerk chicken, and fajita-style grilled steak (which we supplemented with fresh guac & chips--exactly the amount of cooking we were up for). We were extremely grateful for the vegetables--roasted, grilled & steamed--which were the kind of thing we would usually make ourselves, though better (for example, the dressing on the beet & spinach salad is just a little sweet as well as tangy, very nice). Our contact, Amy, was helpful, flexible, and great. -

This review can only really be about the tapenades, pestos and vinaigrettes (because that's all we've actually tried), but we have total confidence in the business. Side by Side is our favorite stop at the Redwood City farmers market whenever we can get there. We're guaranteed to try something delicious and walk away with it for a good price. The pesto and tapenade selection is unique and every one of them is soooo yummy. We also love chatting at the booth. If we lived in the city, we'd definitely frequent the shop. And if we ever have a need for a caterer, we won't think twice about who to choose. Off to think about creative ways to use this week's new acquisition, a chili-ginger vinaigrette. Mmmmmm.

This is good catering in the Russian Hill neighborhood on a budget that will provide staff and supervision offering great service. We hosted 200 people out in Stern Grove and were very very satisfied.
They have a storefront location where you can get all the info you need if you like that. The food was excellent and everything was quickly bussed and recharged when needed. The servers even handled and poured the drinks even though we bought them from somewhere else.
Instead of paying tons of money for a catering firm do it all you can save thousands of dollars on your event with these guys.
I would definitely use them again!
If you don't like to do absolutely everything you can pay additional for someone to supervise with the money you save. I'd even recommend these guys for weddings but make sure you convince your wife it was her idea in the first place. ;) -

Granted, their entire menue is superb, but have you actually tried their corn salad with feta, tomatoes and cilantro? It is to *die* for. I wake up craving it in the morning. It's an amazing, unique taste. It's consistently so yummy and fresh. My taste buds sing every time I think about it.
This is my very first Yelp review... Not only do I have a huge fondness for the food they have here, but I also now have sincere appreciation for Grace who went above and beyond for me last week. Grace came to my rescue when I wandered into the store at 8 PM to get a quart of the corn salad for a party I was going to the next day... but to no avail. They were all out. Kaput. Gone-o. I couldn't bring this dish I have been *raving* about to a really lovely event I had the next evening and I was Bummed with a capitol B.
Grace saw the disappointment in my face, asked me where I worked, and offered to have the salad DELIVERED to me AT WORK in time for my event the next day! She delivered it personally... she did not charge me a delivery fee... and even threw in a little extra something for me. Grace saved the day and the salad received NUMEROUS compliments that evening.
That gesture meant the world. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be reaching out to Grace for a party I am hosting in October. And in addition to the corn salad, I know everyone will rave about the food. It's amazing. Thank you, Grace! -

stumbled in here by chance after doing some boxing at the gym.
(small but mighty!)
this place had super nice and friendly service. there was a good variety of food and yummy desserts - from lasagnas and sheperd's pie to pumpkin pies. the curry chicken was calling out my name but i have a sensitive stomach for certain curries.
they let me have a taste and it was deelish.
filled with cashews, raisin, and apples, the dish was packed full of flavors.
there was a 10$ min for credit cards but since it was our first time there, they let it slide.
they do home deliveries for personalized catering up to servicing large parties. i'll definitely keep them in mind for future events. -

I am adding a star because everyone here is so nice. They are starting a service where they plan your menu for you and deliver it to your house. What a great plan. Healthy food that is prepared for you when you get home. Yum.

fresh ingredients, home cooked meal with care, what else can you ask for in a meal? stumbled onto this place while g and i walked up polk to the hardware store. the woman behind the counter was very nice/friendly. the selection behind the glass casing looked yummy and prepared w/care. it's on the pricier end. but we went back about 3 times since. and will go back more too so it's 2 thumbs up fo sho!

Not only has Amy made our annual Christmas party here a continued success for the last 4 years, but the staff are so friendly, warm, and professional. We are in Redwood City and have a local wine and dine club of neighbors. Side By Side Gourmet has been our caterer for 4 events now, reaching back 4 years. This Christmas party will have 3 passed appetizers (thai corn fritter w/sweet chili sauce, curry chicken skewers w/peanut sauce and mushrooms caps stuffed w/spinach and cheese) then a nice tossed salad with pears and blue cheese and citrus dressing, and apricot glazed pork loin. Besides arriving on time, never needing any assistance from me, and presenting the best food, it is always more than enough. I have been to a few catered events where they run out of food. These folks are very generous. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and reasonably priced as well. They clean up entirely so you never knew anyone was there. *important at 11 pm! I don't want to fool with cleaning up that late at night.

Besides catering for groups, this takeout place features homemade dinners with helpings so big, one dinner can easily feed two people. The desserts are also homemade, and everything is very fresh. You can request tastes of anything you'd like, or choose a salad instead of hot food. We have to retain the character of the city by patronizing our small neighborhood businesses. There are loads of entrees to choose from as well as side dishes. Vegetarians can also find dishes they like. Aimee and Andrew are there for their customers.
