This place had a lot of character to it, from the exterior to the interior decor and the staff was friendly as can be. I love the quaint homey feeling the place had from the moment we stepped inside.
We ordered a whole pie and stuck with the basics of a pepperoni and black olive pizza....seeing how it was our first visit. Everything in the display looked fantastic and will surely be back to try the others. The pizza didn't take long to come out at all, but having good company and conversation surely helped pass the time while waiting in great anticipation for our pizza...haha...Overall the pizza was pretty good. The marinara sauce was certainly the wow factor for me, tasted fresh and delish.
This place will definitely be on my list for a quick bite when I'm in the area.
I guess giving this place a bad review is like beating a dead horse because it already has a 4 /12 average but here it goes:
I had a broccoli and ricotta thin slice, and usually adding ricotta to anything makes it better but this pizza just sucked. Tasted too salty and the ricotta must have been the cheapest possible because I could barely taste it. I also had a mushroom Sicilian slice, the mozzarella was horrible and overpowered all the other flavors. The only reason I'm not giving this place 1 star is that the Sicilian crust had a nice flakiness going for it.
Basically, this is the epitome of bad NY style pizza that people in most parts of the country have to settle for. And the name is stupid too.
OK. There is one plus to this place; if you like thin crust, they've got it. If you want pan pizza, they've got it. Best part is the pan crust is cooked through, which is rare in a pizza joint. The thin crust is of dubious quality;it's a little hard. As in, you bite it and you gotta work it to tear it off.
Stay away from the obama special; the broccoli tastes microwaved and the inclusion of ricotta is a little strange. Best option is to order an entire pan fresh to go so you know it hasn't been sitting there. If you ask for the thin crust extra bake, it just gets even harder and the cheese doesn't really brown any more than it would on a regular basis.
My roommate Jenn L. came up with the ingenious idea to have a pizza night. But this was no ordinary pizza night. Because of our fervent love of pizza, we scoured the city for the best pizza locations, which we haven't tried yet. Instead of buying three different pizzas from one location, we bought a different pizza from three different locations. How's that for creativity? Our first stop was Sicilian Thing Pizza. We ordered The Thing specialty, which I guess is there version of a combination, which has your usual sausage, pepperoni, olives, etc. When I got there to pick it up, they did a final cook on it so it came out pipping hot. In fact, it was really hot; I would know because I had to hold it on my lap for the entire car ride back.
After trying this pizza, I now love Sicilian style pizza. I think the only time I've had a square pizza was from Leucadia's and their dough isn't nearly as good. This dough is dense, but also chewy. It almost reminds me of a deep dish, but it's not really deep dish - the dough is just very thick. I realized I like eating the corners of this pizza more than the middle. For $23, this is a pretty good deal for about 16 thick slices. It kind of sucks that this place is in a random area of North Park where there is no parking whatsoever, but this will not stop me in the future from making the long drive out to have another go at this delicious style of pizza!
serve some chicken man. But you know I love you. You see me there like 4 days a week.
Just to let you people know. They deliver now
This place was really good. I was excited to try it and it lived up to my hopes. The best part was that they have both thin and thick crust pizza. As a big fan of thick crust this was perfect. Great sauce with fresh ingredients. Definitely worth a try.
Pretty good for a small, out-of-the-way place on 30th Street, which seems to have a crapload of pizza places. My brother and I actually found this place while looking for ANOTHER pizza place on 30th (Lefty's near Upas). My brother actually thought this place was Lefty's, which was odd, but we parked anyway. By the way, there's NO PARKING ANYWHERE on a Monday night. We actually had to park across the street because there was no street parking.
Interesting setup, though the choices of pizza slice seems a little limited. When we came in, the Monday Night Football game between the Broncos and Chargers was on as well as Game 3 of the NLCS on another TV near the kitchen. $2.50 per slice is pretty good for the size of the square slices, though from initial looks by me, it seemed like we didn't get enough food. Believe me, it was enough food for four slices between the two of us. And I liked the fact that the slices weren't really, really greasy and loaded with sauce. Some places put on so much sauce and grease that it looks like it'll go right through the box. Hasn't happened yet, but I do think I will see it someday. I particularly liked how well-cooked the crusts were. I admit that the crust is my favorite part of a pizza slice and the crusts made here are very good. Had a good crunch from the bread.
We're thick crust fans and originally headed to North Park to try Lefty's Pizza since we heard so much about it, but the flies camped on the slices in the glass case were such a turn off we were out of there!
Then we spotted Sicilian Thing and decided to check it out. Thick crust, rectangle like my fav on the east coast, and no flies, so how bad could it be? Not bad at all! It was freaking De-lish!! A slice turned into 3 each, thick, thin, 6 different topping combos, all great and ended up ordering a tray to go.
The best is the flavorful crust. Thick, but light with just the right amount of delicious crunchiness. Usually like a veggie or works combo, but this pizza is so dang tasty in it's simplest form I can't get enough of the well balanced cheese Sicilian style.
I'll be heading there for a couple of trays today. Now if they'd just open shop in N. County it would be perfect, but since it reheats beautifully at home, it's well worth the drive. Drool.
Ah Sicilian Thing Pizza, you are delicious.
I am pretty sure I have tried all their varieties of pizza and they are all delicious, bravo!
Prices have definitely facilitated my broke ass's ability to taste all their pizza and contrary to the ideas you might get about the name "Sicilian Thing" the service is fast and friendly.
There is a catch, ca$h only. If I recall there's an ATM in case you forget, but don't because I absolutely hate those "service charges" from ATMs...
I have to go back soon to try their cannoli if I manage to not shove too much delicious pizza in my mouth and save some room.
A solid ass pizza place in the hood. Chill staff, and nice variety of slices in thick and thin crust varieties. If you like a firmer texture and crisp crust this is your spot. The slices vary in price around 2-3 dollars depending on what you get.
For my taste I can't put this at the top of my list. My style of dough is crisp at the ends but softer and chewier towards the middle. They reheat the slices too long here which results in a pretty stiff crust and in my opinion, overcooking rather than warming. It's still good though, same with the thick stuff which is one of the better Sicilian styles I've tried. To close out this exercise in pizza douchery the sauce is mad peppery and less sweet than I like. I know some people like that shit zesty while I find it heavily and possibly over spiced up.
Besides my own snobbery the only other beef I have with this place is the cost of whole pies. It seems like a lot, particularly the specialty ones. If anyone can let me know where to find coupons I'd love to try a fresh pie since I might get a better experience with that. Stick with the slices if you're cheap and remember that pizza is highly personal. I also like to drink in North Park so it would be cool if they occasionally stayed open for late night
I do love me some pizza. After the Woodstock catastrophe, I needed something to cleanse my pizza-lovin' palate. And I needed cheap dinner.
A friend suggested Sicilian Thing as I had never been there. Sure! "It's good, right?" Oh yes. We walked in and what seemed to be lead pizza guy was on the phone, but said he'd be right with us. I noticed on the way in a sign that says $1 cheese slices from 12 to 2pm! A steal!
They had thin crust and Sicilian style in the case. I had to laugh at the "Barack"ali and Ricotta pizza. I ended up going with a slice of thin crust cheese and the "Meatda" Sicilian style. I filled up on root beer, grabbed as many shakable toppings as I could, and got to work.
Red pepper flakes, Parmesan cheese, and black pepper. Yum! I haven't had pizza this good since I've been home (meaning Boston)! (Zia is an exception as it is a different genre of pizza, in my mind and on my tongue). The full pies themselves start at $14, and there are some popular specialties.
They have decent slice prices especially considering the portion. Cheese is $1.75, Pepperoni $2 respectively, and so on. The guys behind the counter are really nice. I will totally drive the 15 minutes to North Park over the 5-minute walk to Woody's.
I recently moved to the neighborhood and this place never let's me down. There is something about the tomato sauce they use that is amazing! I usually get the pepperoni and love it. The only downside is that it is cash only..they have an ATM but with a fee of course. I wish they took debit or credit I would go more often.
This place has VERY reasonable prices....certainly I hope that those of us who have commented on this doesn't lead to the owner raising the prices!
Having eaten Sicilian pizza at very authentic joints in NY, I have to hand it to these guys for serving up some very tasty Sicilian pizza. I had the Meatda Sicilian pizza and it was great. Crisp crust, tasty flavorful toppings, and just the right amount of sauce.
I also tried a basil sundried slice and had a bite of the Barack-oli slice, which I thought were just ok. Tasty in its own right, but compared to other pizza I've had, its just ok. Would I eat it again yes.
We took the pizza to go and a short 5 minutes later, the Sicilian slice still tasted good, but the regular thin crust ones weren't as tasty. Rubbery and chewy.
I'm not expecting pizza to be crisp and hot 20 minutes later, but 5, yes I think that it should still be tasty and retain crispness. Why you ask? Because others have set the standard.......Bronx pizza to go or delivered doesn't result in rubbery chewiness. So I'm not sure how Sicilian can improve on this, but this is definitely an area for improvement that somehow Bronx Pizza has figured out. Its good whether you eat it in the joint or take it away.
All in all however, this place is a great value!
I love Sicilian thing because:
- it is walking distance
- it has great "by the slice" variety
- they let you bring your dog in
- they taste just as good if not better than bronx pizza, without the annoying "staple" new york attitude
- there is never a long wait, you get food IMMEDIATELY.
- they have a "barack"oli and ricotta pizza. I think that is absolutely hilarious. and it tastes like heaven too.
great job guys, you are my favorite neighborhood pizza =)
Solidly tasty and a great value for the price.
Cash only! During lunch, you can get a cheese slice for $1 with purchase of a fountain drink. My usual lunch there is a soda ($1.50), cheese slice ($1), and tomato garlic slice ($2.25). Big filling lunch for $4.75, can't go wrong with that. I'm really into the cheesy/garlicy goodness of the tomato garlic slices. Service is friendly and quick.
I hate too much dough on my pizza, so I'm definitely a lover of all the thin crust creations. The ingredients are fresh and pizzas made to order are perfectly delicious with your choice of topping. If I need a snack or something to tide me over until the next meal, the pizza by the slice is perfect! They have so many choices, too, including deep dish if you like, so you're not just stuck deciding between pepperoni or cheese.
The staff are so friendly, and last time I enjoyed watching a little bit of Animal House while I waited.
The only downer - it's cash only.
Perhaps I picked a bad day to come here, I don't know, but the pizza was just ok for me. I ordered 1 slice of plain cheese. Based on all the Yelp reviews I was very excited to come here and try it out. The 'set-up' seemed pretty authentic to NYC/NJ pizza joints I'm used to... with the pizzas lined up in the case, they had sicilian (square pizzas) as well as regular thin crust, and some with various toppings. So I expected some good stuff forthcoming.
Upon getting my slice after having it heated up, I thought 'eh, this looks OK.' I tasted it and my tongue almost fell off it was SO hot! Temperature wise it was intolerable and I had to let it sit another 2 minutes before attempting to eat again. After finishing the slice, I really didn't have much of an opinion. I thought eh it's just ok. So that is my experience. I am going to give it 1 more try for yelp's sake considering the rave reviews. The one plus I'd like to make a note of is that the guys working there are very friendly and attentive.
I read all the reviews and decided to make the journey out from Santee to try this pizza place.
I called up my order and got a whole Sicilian Pizza with pepperoni. If your name is Sicilian Thing, that would probably be a good pizza to order yeah? The guy says it will be about 20 minutes and that its cash only.......another Randy Moss reference.....Straight Cash Homie!
I get there and walk in and before I could even say anything the guy goes $15.50. Is he psychic? Did he have a spy camera in my house while I placed the order to know what I looked like? Was I the only person who ordered something in the last hour? Whatever it was, it was a tad weird but whatever. Quick and to the point! I pay the man my money and he tells me it will be about 2 minutes. Sat down and watched some of the Mets game. A few minutes pass and he pulls my pizza out of the oven, boxes it up and hands it to me. This thing must weigh.....no joke....about 5 pounds. This was a damn heavy box. If I had one thing to stuff in a 14 x 14 box and send to Somalia, this pizza would be it. It could feed an army.
I get home and open the 5 pound box. The pizza looks grub. I took a few pictures of it and then started to chow down. The thick crust is awesome! The crispy bits on the edge are simply amazing. The sauce tasted great and it was a very filling pizza. The only thing that could use some improvement was the cheese/toppings. They needed to be cooked a little more. I like my cheese almost brown and my pepperoni crisp. Maybe next time I will order it well done. Or I could just throw it under the broiler at home for a minute or two. I ate 3 pieces and I was stuffed. There are still 9 slices left. Can you say pizza for breakfast every day this week? I think I can!
Overall this place was very very good. It was some of the best pizza I have had in SD and the Sicilian is a rare breed around these parts. My grandma and mom use to make thick crust Sicilian pizza and this is right up there with theirs. For only $15.50, this was well worth it. I will be back for sure to try out their thin crust and to get more of this awesome Sicilian style pizza!
It's a crime that I haven't written a review for Sicilian Thing yet considering I've been going religiously for the last few months. It's everything a pizza joint should be. It's cheap, it's fast, it's amazing.
Try the Meatda for the sicilian style. It was my staple, but at the recommendation of a friend who's possibly more obsessed with this place than I am, I moved over to the Barack-oli, which rocks my world. Said friend also recommends the Vegi Episodi.
And the owner is friggin great. Paul has not only cleaned up after our spilled drinks while inebriated (hey, Toronado IS next door) but he has literally chased hoodlums out of the joint's vicinity (all five feet of him), all with a smile. He's badass.
Consistantly good pizza. I like how they ask if you want red or green pepper when you order peppers. Possibly the best deal in town.

This place is amazing. I moved to North Park for about a week.. and I've eaten here three times. The pizza is phenomenal both thin & thick crust. The lunch special is such a steal too :).
After The Woman That I'm Currently Married To returned from her weekend afternoon volleyball game, she was hungry - as usual. She mentioned Mexican food and I suggested pizza. She said Lefty's and I threw out Sicilian Thing. She asked who in the hell are they. She wanted Lefty's because she knew she could count on Lefty's Gold Coast pizza to satisfy her. Let's try something new, I suggested. So we cleaned all of the blood off of ourselves (long and possibly illegal story) and made our way to Sicilian Thing (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) which is located just north of South Park.
Instead of going for the slices on display (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), we decided to order a fresh pie from the oven. We went with the thick crust - half "The Thing" (veggies and pepperoni) for her and half pepperoni for me. It came out to exactly 20 bucks and they said it would take about 20 minutes which was no problem. 20 minutes quickly passed and it was brought over to our table (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). A few things raced through my puny little mind: "This a lot of food for two people. I'm taking most of this home. I'm DEFINITELY going hiking tomorrow. By eating this, I am slowing lowering myself into a coffin." So I ate it.
Now, I'm one of "those people" that uses napkins to soak up excess oil on pizzas which I did. Yes, I understand that I'm eating a damn pizza but there's no need for me to consume any more oil than necessary. The pizza was really good (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), that's for sure. Being right out of the oven, of course everything was soft and piping hot. This pie also had a good balance of ingredients in regards to the cheese, sauce and pepperoni. TWTICMT said that the vegetables were fresh and it really complimented the overall taste of the pizza.
We ate what we could and boxed up the rest. No disappointment here as opting for Sicilian Thing (and not Lefty's) wasn't a bad thing after all. I'm sure I'll be back as soon as my cholesterol level lowers by 30 points and returns to normal.
Not going to lie...I had some SERIOUS doubts when I drove past the place. It's a little pizza by the slice place and has crappy looking pizza's laid out at the front counter.
BOY WAS I GLAD I GAVE THIS PLACE A CHANCE!!!!
I tried both the thin and thick crust. Holy crap! Sex in my mouth! Both were so good. So crispy and crunchy. It was GREAT!
The service was awesome too. They had tons of personality and were really nice.
The price was awesome too. We got a HUGE HUGE HUGE THICK PIZZA (on top of a shared skinny slice to "try") with tons of toppings for $20. Not bad at all! I ate 2 slices and almost fell over dead from fullness!
GREAT AMAZING PIZZA! I suggest you try it!
Everything at Sicilian Thing is simple. There are several varieties of pizza-by-the-slice to pick from. Slices are above average size for around $2 depending on which you prefer. You can order an entire pie as well for between $15-$20. Which is definitely reasonable for good quality and generously sized pizza. The staff was friendly and efficient. Note: they do not accept credit cards, but they do provide an ATM inside.
I love a good thick crust pizza, which can be hard to find in San Diego. Sicilian Thing's thick is pretty good for the price. Costco and Pizza Hut are cheaper, but they taste like cardboard compared to Sicilian Thing. I thoroughly enjoyed the Meatda (did I spell it right?) which is a thick crust with sausage and pepperoni. I also tried some of my friends Barak-oli Cheese which is, apparently, an Obama-inspired broccoli with dollops of ricotta on a thin crust. All of it tasty, all of it reasonably priced.
I came in hungry and poor and left fat and happy.
Let it hang sicilian thang....
I had a slice of the thin crust cheese, a few bites of the pesto, and a slice of the deep dish cheese. They were all awesome but I've always been a fan of the chicago style deep dish - so for me the sicilian square thick cheese slice is what enticed me to give a 5 star rating.
Next time I'm getting the "meatda." It's a deep dish topped with pepporoni and ground sausage. mmm mmm mmm.
I love thin crust-NY style pizza. My boyfriend on the other hands loves deep dish. Conundrum.
After much debate of Lefty's or Bronx- the boyfriend and I jumped on YELP and decided to check out Sicilian Thing and were SOO IMPRESSED with both the deep dish & thin crust. Thus, mission possible- tummies full on delish pizza!
They have a great selection of pies- super budget friendly place. So budget friendly in fact that the owner told us to 'pay me later' when I realized my broke a** was short a buck. I was so incredibly taken aback that as soon as we chowed, I quickly ran to the closest ATM (his was down at the time) and sprint back to the store to give the owner his much deserved dollar! Needless to say, the service is excellent! :)
Ash says: "I want pizza"
OMG the buzz word.. PIZZA.
me: "wanna get Dominos?"
ash: "sure, ehh I guess.. I dunno... let's get bronx"
me: "OKAY.. eh nah I don't want to drive.."
*15 minutes of sitting on the couch talking about how we could live off of a pizza diet forever*
ash: "wanna walk to Sicilian Thing?"
me: "OKAY!"
This place rocks.. they even let lil ole D-Money in to hang out on the floor. The people behind the counter are super nice and the pizza tastes great! I am a fan.. now the only problem will be staying away from this place as it's a short walk from my house.
+1 for having fountain drinks now.
+1 because I seriously think somehow the pizza has gotten even better. (Order a whole pie sometime, you'll be glad you did!)
+1 because I love it that it's always the same guys working and they're super cool.
Woohoo!

I don't know what all the hype's about. Pretty much average in my opinion. Go to Lefty's.
Last March I decided to join Yelp and begin my adventures into real food and expand my horizons outside of chain restaurants and the tired mediocre fast food spots. The first thing that enticed me was Sicilian Thing Pizza. The name suckered me in because I myself have Sicilian roots so I figured it had to be good, right? Right? I intended on making it there as soon as I bookmarked it, but time went on, and more time went on. Bookmarks overran bookmarks, and suddenly Sicilian Thing was on the forgotten page. After being granted a set of wheels, I finally saw where it was located and was even more determined to stop in for a bite, but somehow always ended up just a few blocks down at other spots. Sicilian Thing has consistently been a speck in my rear view mirror, and last night I was nagged by my friend to finally get over and try it.
Parking on a Tuesday night around 8 PM was a lot more of a challenge than I anticipated. I am normally down in this area to begin with and know how parking isn't always the most accessible within a close distance of the destination, but I swear I circled that block more times than ever.
My next task was navigating my very classily dressed self up the sidewalk to find this hole in the wall of a pizza place that seemed to be guarded past some of the most scandalous looking characters I have seen in a while. Heart beat pumping and stomach growling, I persisted.
Stepping into the door I instantly smelled the pizza I had been depriving myself of for the last year. Tomato and Garlic Pizza thin crust struck me as the one to get. Oh yes. Sweet yes.
The guys behind the counter were fairly polite but looked like a bunch of doofuses... what can you expect for 30th Ave?
The place was large, clean, and impressed me with the Sicilian ambiance they had going on. Paintings, photographs, informational books keeps you the customer entertained as your pizza is being prepared.
Once my friend showed up the pepperoni and mushrooms along with "The Thing" suckered his tummy in. Mushrooms are one of my most despised food so I did not try either of the slices so I can only comment on the tomato garlic. I think every bite I took out of my pizza slice I made some kind of sound and oh how delicious it tasted. The cheese was easy to deal with considering a mouth full of metal and a bunch of cheese can be one of the scariest things to ever happen. Cheese wrapping around brackets mid-swallow can really make for some unpleasant eating experiences.
The prices were for three slices of pizza and two sodas. Don't know what the total was, but come on, it's a pizza joint. How bad can it be?
And definitely a fan of the ATM inside if you find yourself with plastic in a cash only place. The fees probably kill you, but it's worth it to pull out some greenery for a slice of Sicilian perfection.
So it took me a year to get down here and I am ever so glad that I did.
But I am not stoked on the asshole who left me the surprise of hitting my front bumper when I returned from my eating experience. Sketchy leads to pizza to paint crumpling disappearing acts before I return.... but the damage done was so worth that little slice!

The perfect neighborhood pizza spot.
My girlfriend and I called in our thin crust (not quite adventurous enough for the Sicilian just yet) and zoomed over to go pick it up. First off, great pizza! However, the service was quite lacking, and the whole experience was, well, awkward.
me: hi, pick up for Alex
workerdude: ok, 18bucks
I hand him the cash and then spot the cannoli and add some of those too. He hands me my change and walks away. I stood at the counter for a minute, patiently awaiting my pizza when I notice that he doesn't have it, he's not even working on it and it's actually in the oven. So, after standing there like an idiot for a few minutes, I take a seat. He never even mentioned when my pizza was going to be ready or anything.
After waiting a few minutes my lady decides to get a soda for the wait (which were not even sure how long this is going to take...did they even start our pizza yet?). Workerdude puts her change on the counter and walks away again. A few moments later he puts some cannolis on the counter and doesn't say anything (or even look in my general direction!!) and walks away again. Five or so minutes later (meanwhile we're debating those our cannolis...are they even cannoli at all?) he puts a pizza on the counter, places the cannoli on top and says to me here you go.
At least it was the best awkward pizza I've ever had. Maybe next time I'll get the Sicilian...
or maybe next time I'll just go to Luigi's.
the BEST. $1.75 cheese slices. Baseball games are always on. Thank god for this pizza. Lunch deal is great too: buy a fountain drink for $1.50 and get as many cheese slices as you want for $1 each. That's obamanomics right there.
To add to Alexander W's review: I know the guy he's talking about and he is pretty awkward indeed, I had almost the exact same experience. I thought he was playing a joke on me... I ordered thick cheese slices and he put thin pepperoni in the oven. Oh well...I thought it was funny
My girlfriend and I have been coming here since they opened. The pizza is damn good, and cheap. Even better, they stay open late and the pizza always tastes fresh.
There's a couple ways to go here. You can get the namesake pizza, which is a thick style crust, apparently the 'Sicilian Thing' to do. It's heavy even by standards (I'm a 6'3'' beast and can eat whatever I want, don't hate), but just because I like to cut to the chase and get to what actually makes pizza most enjoyable: the sauce cheese and toppings. To sum it up the crust on this pizza is over and inch thick. Tasty, just not my favorite.
The thinner crust (still not that thin, more doughy and chewy than most 'thin' crusts) is what I always order. Can't beat 2 bucks a slice for (I think) the only place around with a broccoli ricotta pizza. There is no red sauce on this pizza, and it's still not missing a thing. Except maybe for some chili flakes.
Overall we've never been disappointed. Bummer they don't take cards.
Looking for authentic? Looking for something different than the chains of Dominoes and Pizza Hut? Hell, we all know those places provide "pizza" but its not the real deal. Come to this place and you'll be greeted by a very personable staff who don't feed you the usual "you are a customer so I'll act nice" sort of service. They treat you like a normal person and deliver a product that is incomparable to other places who offer the alleged same quality. Don't be fooled! Come here if you want the real deal.
Its places like this which turn pizza into an art rather than a recipe. If you know and like your pizza, this place ought to give you a good run for your buck.
This place is simply awesome. Definitely the best Sicilian Square Pizza I've ever had in this city. Come to think of it, it's the only Sicilian Square Pizza I've had in this city! Nonetheless, they do it just right here, and with the shortage of quality pizza in San Diego they get the elusive 5 star rating from me.
The key to a great Sicilian square slice is a firm crust with a soft core - if it flops over it wasn't done right. They certainly passed the test. Taste, of course, is a huge factor too and they were perfect. The sauce had just the right amount of flavor to it where it wasn't overwhelming and yet not too bland. Plenty of fresh cheese on top with just the right amount of toppings (I went with their "Meatda" slices which come with pepperoni, sausage and meatballs).
The service was pretty "cut and dry" but just the way I like it. "What can I get ya? That'll be such and such dollars. Thanks, have a nice day." Nothing more, nothing less. They were prompt and polite and that's all I really ask for.
The place was pretty spacious for a pizza joint, but I can see how seating can be a problem here when it's crowded. The only problem I had though was the fan that was blowing on me from above. My napkins kept flying everywhere to the point where it looked like a ticker-tape parade. I guess there might of been a cause for a celebration but I admit that wasn't my intent.
I almost neglected to mention - this place makes one heck of New York style pizza too. They're easily a top 5 place in this city in that regard. I got a pepperoni and sausage slice and it was very much on par with what Bronx serves. Totally excellent.
Yes, you should definitely go out of your way to check this place out.
My new best Pizza joint for NY style pizza. I have tried all the contenders and this one just edges out the competition by a small margin. Bronx, Luigi's and Bongiorno's New York Pizzeria are all great pizzas, but Sicilian Thing is the best ! I had the Tomato and Garlic, My daughter had the Pepperoni and Cheese and My Brother went with the ricotta and Broccoli slice. we were all pleased with our selections and happily left to our next yelp stop....
ohh yeah its CASH ONLY so" bring your lettuce"
I love NY pizza. It's one of my favorite foods in this world. Before I discovered Bronx Pizza, I used to go back to NY and eat pizza for breakfast lunch and dinner.
After I discovered Bronx Pizza, I stopped gorging on trips back home. Then Pizzeria Luigi and Pizz. Arreverderci came onto the scene and things really got better. Ciro arrived also, though not quite as good. Finally, Sicilian thing came out.
It didn't compare favorably and so I never yelped it, but I had a few slices here tonight and they really have improved. The owner came from Bronx Pizza, and prior to that, from a shop in suburban Philadelphia.
Thanks for following me out to NP Paulie!! I stopped eating NY pizza with meat because I think the aforementioned places use 2nd quality meat that make my stomach churn, but Sic Thing uses very tasty and fresh pepperoni and sausage.
Not only do I have world class microbrew beer bars in my neighborhood, I now have great NY pizza. I'm in heaven!
The only reason it's 4 stars is that the prices are slightly higher than bronx and luigi's, and they don't serve beer. Someday I hope.
I like it. A lot. Is it better than Luigi's or the Bronx ? All that I'm going to say is that its different. In a good way.
Bronx and Luigis does not offer the thick crust, which I do want sometimes. I mainly go for the thin slices though.
Trying to decide between these three great pizza joints is like asking me me who I would rather go out on a date with.Scarlett Johannsen, Jessica Alba, or Jennifer Love Hewitt. Its a tough choice.
If you blindfolded me, spun me around 20 times and just had me reach out and grab one, I would be happy with whatever I came up with.
That last statement applies to both pizza and the women.
Just an update - Still the best there is in this county.
I've been eating here since this place opened, and I still come here on a regular basis. Even if I miss a few months here and there, the craving always hits eventually, and then I end up finding myself here.
The pizza is delicious, hands down. Waaaaay better than Bronx, by far. Plus, Paulie here serves up the best Sicilian pizza I've ever had.
It's not "deep dish". It's not "thick crust". It's not "pan pizza". Pizza Hut has "pan pizza". Paulie does not. It's Sicilian style pizza, and it's standard fare in any NY pizza place. Paulie is the only one I've seen serve it on this side of the country, and I have to say, it's better than any kind I've had back east. He really knows his stuff.
As far as thin crust goes, get the tomato and garlic. But to me, Sicilain is really the way to go. With nothing on it - toppings just get in the way of the buttery flavor.
Good lookin out, Paulie. Keep it up.
Haven't had a connolli in a while, so I'll be coming back for one of those real soon.
