Hayward, CA
"I LOVE THIS PLACE~~~~ I was taken aback when we got in the restaurant cuz the neighborhood isn't the most attractive place. Large size pho,…" read more »
I think I have found the best Thai place in the Hayward area - our PTA board had a meeting here - yes the pta board! and dang I think we will be coming back once/month! The food was inexpensive too ... and the people were super nice ... coming back for sure ;)
The food wasn't bad, but it could've been better. The pineapple fried rice had a weird burnt taste to it; the green curry with beef was just okay; the shrimp puffs were pretty good but the shrimpiness was nowhere to be found; the sweet rice with fresh mango was good enough to make up for the rest of the meal.
My female accomplice noted that the decor was tasteful. It was pretty quiet and the lights were kind of dim, I guess to make the atmosphere more romantic. I'll probably go back if my lady-friend wishes to.
WORST SERVICE EVER!
The food is reasonable. There are tons of Thai places in the Bay Area and I could imagine that competition sparks some competitive values. This place does not care about inviting their customers back again. They mixed up our orders three times, kept on taking our plates before we finished, and insisted on wanting to know when we were done eating. THE PLACE WAS EMPTY!!!! If you want to go home and cuddle up on the couch with some mediocre Pad See-Ew, then this might be the place, but try not to dine in.
DOPE pad see-ew (umm, did i spell that right?) though the price went from 5.95 to 7.95 in a year?!
very friendly service, pleasant enough space, though i usu get takeout.
Not bad Thai food. It's a lot closer to home than Thai Kitchen. Me and my peeps (one mini 3 year old peep) had the Salad Kag, Chicken & Potato Curry, Beef Satay, steamed rice, and Pad Thai. The Thai Ice Tea was not bad. Food sufficient, we all ate and left happy. The service was decent and friendly. On a Friday night, the parking lot in the back was full....

I think I found my local Thai spot. I came here to get my sick bf some hot lemongrass soup as he was sick, the honey bbq chicken and chicken friend rice (another bf favorite). Everything was pretty good. Watch out of the little breast bones in the chicken but it was decent. I loved the soup and the rice was delicious. The best thing about this place was the service. It took a bit of time to get my food but the server that took my to go order was so friendly, had a nice smile and was pretty too. While I was waiting and flipping thru old InStyle magazines, she came by with a cup of tea for me. How sweet. I definitely didn't expect that. I grabbed a to go menu on my way out for my future orders.
They also have a separate room for private events if needed. Parking on the street and the rear.

we went to Siam Palace yesterday for my dad's birthday dinner.
there was also an alterior motive by my sister in law. this happens to be the location for their wedding rehearsal dinner in 2 weeks. so they wanted to sure up the menu for the event.
as you can imagine this place was not crowded on a hot and muggy monday, there were a couple of fans blowing to ease the heat but it wasn't doing very much. an a for effort though. the people are very friendly and service was great. the food was also very good we had:
appetizer combo platter - chicken satay and tofu were the standouts
siamese shrimp fried rice** - delicious
mus-sa-mun beef curry - could've been spicier but very tasty
kra-prao mushrooms - not bad
yang short ribs** - yum
pra-rarm beef - left something to be desired
** - denotes overall highlights
the yang short ribs was a chef recommendation so it may not be on their normal menu. also a very nice banquet room next to normal dining room.
(It would really help if i wrote the review before hitting "Post It"!)
I pop in for lunch here once every week or two. The small staff is unfailingly friendly and polite. The lunch specials are a bargain, even though I often order from the regular (read "dinner") menu. The curries are delicious -- not spicy enough, but that's what the tray of condiments is for; the soups are very flavorful and darned near-perfect (*not* the cup of soup you get with the lunch special; that's rather watery and bland -- I mean the "real" soups); the appetizers are scrumptious; the Thai iced coffee and/or iced tea is not too sweet and very flavorful; and so on and so on . . . .
What can I say? It's a great place!
(Note: I've never actually had dinner here; my recomendation for dinner is based upon ordering off the dinner menu at lunch.)

I ate here again. For starters I had the Thai Roti, which is my favorite favorite favorite! It's already cut up into pieces and it's chewy and the peanut sauce it comes with is so yummy! I love their peanut sauce! For our entree I had the pad see-ew, which had the right amount of broccoli and chicken. I paired it with the Roast Duck Fried Rice. The duck was cut perfectly and there wasn't too much fat on the duck. The rice was perfect consistency and it had the right amount of basil and red bell pepper. It was delicious! We had the fish cakes that were just OK. I love lemongrass, but it was too overpowering that I couldn't taste the fish. I still heart Siam Palace. I still had the same service...gracious and very friendly.

Siam Palace is definitely a covert dining gem in downtown Hayward. Probably the best Thai restaurant that Hayward has to offer. The curry puffs are my favorite appetizer along with the scrumptious sauce that accompanies it. The Pad Thai is seasoned and well prepared. It sort of has that sticky texture mixed with the right amount of bean sprouts and lime. The curries are good, but they're more on the sweeter side. Hence, as Jason L. stated, " that's what the tray of condiments is for." The chicken satay is yummy too along with the Praram Chicken.
The service is perfect with very friendly and gracious servers. I believe this restaurant will need more dining room once the movie theater opens up. I've only eaten here for dinner and those times it's been quiet, which is nice in a place like Hayward.

Delicious!!
Gotta patronize the local mom n' pop spots! This place hasn't ever let me down. Service is up to par and the food is always good. I like the ambiance of this charming restaurant. The decor & music is classy.
Our favorites so far is the Papaya Salad, Pineapple Rice and Praram Chicken with Thai Coffee of course!

So great and amazingly fast service. Have been there once or twice before, but was just there the other night and can't believe we don't go several times a week! The yellow curry with chicken was perfect and they had this special app with green papaya wrapped in rice noodle with this special sauce - so amazing and refreshing!
Can't wait to go back - will for sure order some Singha this time, tho!
ps - on a Friday around 4pm, we were the only people there! sweet!

I love this Thai place! I could eat their Pad Thai/ honey BBQ beef/ satay/ curry everyday. Well, not all at the same time, but it really is tasty. The flavor of their food is never bland. The wait staff is always very nice. It's always the same people but they are terrific!
I went here once during their one of their Thai Dancing Performance Nights and it is very entertaining. I recommend going here on one of those nights and ordering a full course meal with soup, an appetizer, a main course, and for dessert their fried banana with ice cream.
The best thing: everything was under $40.

Sure beats eating at the company cafeteria. Actually, maybe some meals are better at Mervyns headquarters, but this place certainly was fresh. Easily assembled meals at great prices. Fair service although waiting for the bill even though we were all done was a bit unsettling because I always try to avoid walking into my department late from lunch. Anyway, worth multiple visits. Excellent Thai mermaid fountain and artwork. Catch classical dancing some days, too. -Matt

I've had lunch and dinner here a number of times before with my boyfriend and we keep coming back because its convenient, good food and friendly employees.
We decided to have a birthday lunch for his Mom this past weekend and it was the best! The wait staff was super accomodating and the food seemed extra good. We had no problem bringing our own cake, they even put the candles, lit it up and initiated the birthday jingle! Our entire group - which consisted of 19 people ranging in age 1-60+ - was completely satisfied and enjoyed every minute of it. Our bill came out to $350 (gratuity included), which is excellent for a group this large.

Had dinner here last night (salmon steak - yeah, baby!). I generally don't expect the best experiences from thai places. But this place was incredible. And the prices were great, too.
Have you ever eaten at a place where the food is so good, you place an extra order just to take home and have the next day? This place is that good!
The service is so sweet and friendly. At worst, it might be a little slow when they're really busy. But I would wait 8 hours for the food if I had to. They have great vegetarian and vegan options (I'm a meat-a-tarian, but my best friend is vegan and she found them VERY accomodating).
It's cute as can be inside. The best parking is in a lot around the back. And there is a back door that you can come through.
Don't miss this place if you've got a taste for the Thai!

We come to Siam Palace often for three reasons.
1) The food is always good.
2) The service is always great. So friendly, especially with the little ones.
3) It's never, ever been crowded. Always a concern on weekends... who wants to wait for a table?
We have a few favorites we always get, and then try one or two new dishes each time.
We like the mermaid waterfalls, too.
Shoot, I meant to be the First to Review this a long time ago, but I was too lazy to look up the address and phone... missed the boat.

Went there with my handy dandy Entertainment coupon cuz I'm cheap, but they stated that they no longer accept it. I guess they were cheaper than me by not honoring their coupon.
Food was just OK. Their honey beef is over rated as all it is made up of is dry thin cuts of meat.

the staff was incredibly rude to me and my boyfriend tonight; they didn't refill our drinks and it took them about 15 minutes to bring us the check--it wasn't exactly busy so i didn't quite understand the delay.
the food was pretty good, but i will never go back again because of the nasty staff.

I could eat their BBQ Honey Beef *every day* for the rest of my life and not get jaded. Yes, I most sincerely mean every day. The sweet and sour sauce has that perfect balance of savory and tart, with alternating little hints of citrus and chili pepper. The steak is tender and juicy with the right amount of char from the grill.
Ohmygoodness, and the salad dressing they put on the green salad in the lunch combos is like CRACK. I order extra salad just for the dressing. My guess is that has honey and mayo among other secret ingredients; Apparently it's a "house special" and they won't tell me what's in it, but it's got an almost delicate sweetness and is slightly creamy. It's soooooooooooooooooooooooooo yummy!
Siam Palace is a pleasant little gem in downtown Hayward, with a serence, peaceful interior and top-notch customer service. The staff here is so polite and friendly, and I can't tell you how many times they've stayed open during the afternoon so I can run in and grab my lunch (they close from 3-5pm) when I get a breather from work. Yep, they take phone/fax orders. I really wish I had time to eat here during the day but it can get pretty busy during the lunch rush, and I've only gotten to have dinner here a couple of times. Prices are fairly reasonable for Thai, and I think that might have more to do with location though. My only complaint about Siam Palace is that like most other to-go restaurants they use styrofoam, so I limit myself to lunch here every other week or so. Otherwise, yeah, I could eat that Honey Beef every day!
Oh, and for big groups they have a banquet room and also do catering.

3.5 stars if I could give a half rating so I bumped it to 4. Food here is always consistently good and the ambiance and service is always great. They have some good unique dishes at times, if offered try the pumpkin curry..YUM and the pineapple friend rice...double yum. Everything else is good as well and dishes are nicely flavored. It's above average Thai food especially for Hayward.
They have great lunch specials and even an early bird dinner special that comes with a glass of wine (another reason to bump up to a 4 star rating).
So give it a try when craving Thai and in Hayward ;)

The Daily Review named it "The Best Thai" in 2005. I give it 3.5 stars.
I ordered the Combination Appetizer Platter (Fried Tofu, Satay Chicken, Fish Cakes, and Angel Wings), Yellow Curry (with salmon, not on the menu), Garlic Chicken, and, of course, Pad Thai, all for $40 including a Coconut Ice Cream with Sticky Rice dessert. It was enough to feed 3-4 adults easy.
Everything was good, but nothing was exceptional. Relative to other Hayward establishments, the service was above average and the ambiance was well above average.
I guess the best thing about this place so far is that there isn't anything bad. I'll definitely go back since it's easily the best Thai nearby.
Lunch: 11am-3pm

My wife and I go to Thai food a lot which has become our favorite type of food to eat. With that said, this place definitely can't beat places like House of Siam in San Jose, Bhan Thai in Fremont and other such places. However, it certainly is slightly above average.
The service was timely, quick and very friendly. The food was well prepared and the quality was good. The prices were average **. The Pad Thai (a dish I like to use to compare Thai places) was well done. They did not try to hide the quality of other ingredients by making the sauce too strong allow you to get the flavor of each ingredient while maintaining that unique Pad Thai taste.
** - One way to measure a Thai place is the lunch specials. Some places serve great food yet keep the prices low ($4.95 to $6.95) while others jack it up during lunch. I'm looking forward to going back there during a weekday lunch hour.
I'll write another review then.

I found out about this place before it opened from a friend of a friend of the owners. The place wasn't completely decorated and before they had the private room in the back. The food was so good, I've been back since. I haven't tried all the thai restaurants in Hayward so I can't compare to them, but I have been to almost all in Berkeley, Oakland and Castro Valley. And I've been to thailand a few times. Siam Palace isn't the best thai I've ever had, but it's pretty darn close and definitely the best in the area. It has a more extensive menu than some of the other places and the food's consistent. My family's half vegetarian and half meat eaters and we've never had any trouble pleasing everyone. The place is pretty small and it's common for it to be empty, but I went a few Saturdays ago and the place was packed. But even then, we didn't have to wait to sit, though we did have to wait a little for the food to come out. But it was totally worth it.
