Sadly, the Siam Lotus Room on US1 has closed.  It was a Miami landmark to say the least.

If you are sorely missing this location, like we all are, it might make you happy to know that before tearing this building down to put up a bank, a group of awesome filmmakers used the location to film many scenes of their film "Taste It" there.

This place is good for Thai place-A-Ok, (as YELP'S grading scale says) but, I ventured and had curry chicken SOMETHING
(I honestly didnt remember it an hour later) Its unfortunate because they have some good basic Thai dishes. On the upside the place inside is inviting and their staff is friendly and quick. Theres not much else to say :/

    Gentle Yelpers,

You have consistently been kind, informative, and...RIGHT.  However, I had a contrary experience at the Siam Lotus Room at lunch today.  After having read your raves, I was ready for some kickass Thai...the kind where clean, fresh flavors dance and sing on your tongue.  I ordered the Pad Thai which came with an egg roll and hot and sour soup.  My partner Ritch ordered the Basil Chicken.  Eggroll Drumroll please!  What we got was no better than any run-of-the-mill Chinese Buffet.  Again with the soy.  Again with the sugar.  Again with the muddy taste.  That poor Basil Chicken was cooked within an inch of its life.  Dry and chewy chicken with black, petrified basil.  My Pad Thai bore the undeniable flavor of Heinz ketchup.  On the plus side, it was all hot.  That was the extent of my experiencing what you have in the past.

Did I hit an off day?  Did I enter the wrong door?  Did I order the wrong things?  Did I ask for it by wearing a too short skirt?  What did I do wrong?  Please help me, Gentle Yelpers.  This guy is in need of some Thai.  Is the Siam Lotus Room as good as it gets here?  Please advise!

Thinking of PF Changs further down US-1? Skip the intolerable wait and come to Siam Lotus!

I don't understand why I hardly see anyone in this place. Either I'm going during off-peak hours, or this is one of Miami's best kept secrets... since 1978.

Siam Lotus Room is fast and friendly service with a bit of a homey feel. Every time we leave, a group of people are saying goodbye to us. You get the feeling the people serving you care you have a good dining experience.

The food is incredibly good and portion heavy. Come hungry or expect leftovers. The prices are a bit high, with appetizers starting around $8 and entrees ranging from $15-30, but considering the quality and amount of food, it's a great value.

I would highly recommend this restaurant for vegetarians. They will substitute tofu in almost any dish and even ask if you would like it fried or steamed. The yellow curry with fried tofu is, by far, my favorite dish here.

The saltwater fish tank will leave you mesmerized.

What to do, what to say.  Yes it is good, but as far as generic Thai can be.  I am torn because I do like this place well enough, will go back but really didn't have an amazing experience.

The service was ok, not great.  Here in Miami that is to be  expected so what can I say.

Is it good.. yes..  is it generic ..yes.. will it satisfy your Thai need.. sure.  Good enough to do it.  Maybe if we come with JL and have him coax the cooks to give us some honest to goodness Thai and not the Americanized version it would be better.

Parking can be a wench at lunch.

Have to concur with Ken D. respectfully disagree with my fellow yelpers on this one. Service is good they are nice albeit a bit cool -
I usually find myself catching a quick lunch here and usually have a good time -
We enjoy spicy, and order accordingly but it seems like the spice masks the true Thai flavors that we've come to love and enjoy so much.
Since we are not really Thai connoisseurs, I don't want to disrespect their cuisine and I truly respect the effort they make here obviously with good results judging by the other reviews.
Personally, not my favorite - sorry...

    Ugly Building, Yummy Food.

Been dining here for about 20 years.  Never a regular, I come about once a year.  There are so many Thai places to try and now that I live in Boca, it just is not at the top of my places to go list.  With an out of town friend wanting Thai in South Miami, I turned to this old faithful.

The interior is a VAST improvment on the exterior.  Not too quiet, not too loud.  Pretty fish tank is there to make you feel guilty about eating the Red Curry Seafood, which is one of my favorites.  The Pad Thai is standard and good.  Prices are reasonable, but not a budget sort of place.  Good place to bring a date or escape from your kids.

This is definitely my favorite Thai restaurant in Miami. The establishment may not look like much from the outside, but you will vow to return once you step inside and try the food.

The inside decor is very nice. The room is a little dim, but bright enough  to read the menu and see your party. The place is kept very clean and the tables are always spotless on arrival.

They have a pretty diversified menu; everything from curry dishes, pork, shrimp, chicken, spring rolls, and other delectable dishes. I highly recommend the Volcano Chicken / Shrimp. Obviously you get complimentary white rice on the side. Remember not too go crazy when ordering food, because this is a place to share.

They may not have the best bar in the world, but they do have a pretty nice selection of beers and wine. you may eve find spirits you may have never tried before. I just love Le Fin Du Mon, a Canadian beer that they have in stock. Give it a try if you're into the sweet stuff.

The service is also excellent. The waiters / waitresses are quick, attentive, and  very helpful. They will even tell you when you've ordered too much food. Additionally, the staff will work with you if something goes wrong. For example, I ordered the infamous Le Fin Du Mon, but they were out of stock. The waitress recommended a great Thai beer instead that was very good -- It was also 5.5% alcohol / volume! The best part is they didn't even charge us for the two beers.

I highly recommend this place to anyone interested in good Thai food. It's great for groups and families alike. It's even great for dates, especially because of the quiet and romantic ambiance. I suggest you give this place a try, you will not regret it.

I had a late lunch at Siam Lotus yesterday and I'm already craving more.
There is never wait at this place, the service is always fast and friendly, the food is always amazingly good...I don't know that I could ever go to another Thai restaurant and not feel like I'm being gypped.

As a big fan of curry, but not a big fan of spicy foods, I recommend the chicken yellow curry. Yumm! They sub tofu for just about any meat on their menu, including the yellow curry. Oh...cravings...

Siam Lotus Room is my favorite Thai restaurant in town.  The pastel green building is hard to miss from US-1, but be warned - you have to U it to get there, if you're heading south, that is.

Their pad thai is delectable - with just the right amount of sweetness.  Their curries are awesome.  The spring rolls are super-crispy and steaming hot when served.  The prices are right, and the service is good.  Plus, I saw OJ Simpson there once.  How can you beat that?

Just went for the first time after reading in Zagat 2008 that it's one of the best restaurants in Miami. Great food! Fast service! Not crowded! Couldn't believe it, but glad for it.

Went there for lunch - was a bit bummed that the lunch order comes with vegetable soup and not thom ka kai, but oh well.

I went here for the first time the other day. I was a kind of intimidated by the outside, I actually left and wanted to go somewhere else. Then I went back and opened the big brown doors and couldnt believe my eyes. The inside is nothing like the outside, it looks dumpy actually outside. But the inside is beautiful with a big fishtank. We were in there close to closing so we were a bit rushed and ordered the regular, Pad Thai. It was great, not my favorite though. We also ordered the wrapped shrimp appetizer which was great too. The prices were a bit steep, probably so much that we might not go back. It was over $50 for the 2 Pad Thais and one appetizer, in case you were wondering.

But I did see a lot of things on the menu I'd like to try, if we do go back. They also had a great variety of vegetarian and fish items which I was surprised by. I'd atleast recommend this place to try it out and see what you think. Seemed like the crowd was mostly dates and families.

This is one of the reliable Thai restaurants in Miami. I find the food here better than Moon (which is really better known for sushi). additionally, the food here is pricier than Royal Thai in Western Miami (which I like more). But this place serves homemade Thai food in huge portions. The money spent here is certainly worth it. The quality of the food is good especially since they're locally homegrown - they come from a 5 acres Thai farm in Homestead (in Southern Miami-Dade county).  If you're looking for good Thai food in this part of Miami, this is a place you must visit.

    Decor: Romantic modern casual.

This has always been one of my favorite local comfortable restaurants and even they make fun of the building on their website.  My last trip I decided to try something different and ordered the Volcano Chicken, the hot version.  While the flavor was wonderul it did not seem hot at all so if you like spicy food tell them to kick it up a notch, unless they forgot to make mine hot and then you may be in trouble.  I took it to go and was able to spice it up myself and there was enough food for two meals.

seeing the outside of this restaurant would make you wonder about it, but not about the food (like Tiffany alluded to)
they couldn't get rid of the prior motel feel.
in fact, not bad and certainly pretty good compared to the competition in the area.  prices are high though
had the pad see ewe, generous portion, but not the broad rice noodle that i like.
had panang curry (moderate spice), watery coconut, still not better than Panya Thai
shrimp pad thai, lotsa noodle, was ok, would like more sprouts
    rice served to you

While the building doesn't say much, surprisingly inside its nice, cozy and has friendly staff.  I went for lunch with a good friend and was very pleased.  I ordered the pad thai which was delicious... my friend ordered the seafood curry (medium).  I had to taste her plate and I was in heaven.  I am definetly going to go back and have the seafood curry.   It was a bit expensive for a lunch ($50), but I think it's one of those places you dont mind spending the money. At first we were the only ones there for a late lunch (2ish) but shortly after folks started to arrive.  I am really surprised overall and can't wait to go again.

    More like a 3.7....but not quite a 4.

Even if you've never eaten here, you may already be familiar with it - it's that little funky, boxy Green Goblin of a building standing awkwardly on South Dixie Highway saying "Yeah, I know I'm a lima bean-colored anomaly, but, I know you're intrigued!" And sure, from the outside it looks like the Hulk's illegitimate Thai brother may work the line, but once on the inside, it looks like a standard, yet recently spruced up, Thai restaurant. And when I say "recent" I mean, like 6 or 7 years ago they made the interior look less authentically Thai and bought some more modern looking furniture, hung some fake vines on banisters, and added an elaborate salt water tank filled with fancy tropical fish, which, I believe, hiked the price of all their seafood, duck, and house specialty dishes by at least 4 or 5 bucks. Hey, salt water tanks cost a lot of money to upkeep....

But is the increase in prices worth it? My parents still swear by the whole fried chili fish here, so I came last night and it's not like you can't finagle your way around a pricy bill here - all noodle, pork, chicken, and beef dishes are still more moderately priced (between $13-15 a plate) - but all the dishes you're like "OooOOhhH, that sounds goooOood" about are pried in the upper teens and beyond. And, I was thinking about the chili fish, but if you read my reviews, you know if duck's on the menu, most likely I'll order it (and if you read my reviews, you know I'm kind of on the frugal side so, if ducks a few bucks cheaper than fish, it's a no brainer for me). So, I got the duck curry which was good and ample - lots of meaty pieces of duck, a good sauce, pineapples, chunky tomatoes - nothing to complain about, and enough to bring home for the lunch the next day, but at the same time, nothing really WOWed me. My bf got teriyaki chicken, which he also dug, but, never once did his blue eyes bug out in this excited expression that says "We've got to come here on the regular!" at any point during the meal. My friends got pad thai (which is always well made here, I used to get it here as a kid all the time and was so in love with it I wanted to marry it) and a couple of appetizers, curry puffs (good, but came to the table piping hot, no matter how long you waited, they were still scalding inside), some beef on the stick thing (meat was tender and juicy though), and, I forget the name of it but it's kind of like a Thai rice crispy treat in tumbleweed form - long strands of some kind of thin rice noodle drenched in sticky honey - which was one of the best I've ever had.

Thai donuts are also great here, but how can one mess that up?

So, in short, everyone was satisfied with their males, but no one was particularly impressed. I just feel like this place takes itself too seriously now and lost some of its charm. And I'd come here again....if someone else was paying.

This thai restaurant is very impressive but doesn't hold a candle to Lotus Garden on Miracle Mile.  The food just doesn't satisfy once you've had that.  But, if you've never had Lotus Garden on miracle mile, this food does taste good and has pretty good service.  Just give the Miracle Mile one a try and you will see an evident difference in the taste of some of the dishes.

So everyone I know thought this place looked like a strip joint from the outside. The inside is nice and cozy, and they have a really pretty fish tank on the side closest to US-1. The menu is a little expensive unless you get a lunch special, but it's very flavorful. They grow a lot of their herbs down in Homestead so it's very fresh. My personal favorites: chicken satay, basil duck, garlic delight, sweet ginger, and thai donuts.

This happens to be my favorite Thai restaurant in Miami. Although I have yet to try their curry, I love their chicken terriyaki. The sweet glazed chicken is always served with a nice side of yummy white rice. And their spring rolls are the only spring rolls I have eaten and actually liked. I usually come to this resaturant with friends and family for my birthday and I have heard no complaints so far. The prices are moderate but it comes in decent-sized portions that could easily be shared. My favorite part of the meal? The Thai doughnuts. Oh, sweet yummy pieces of fried dough that goes straight to my hips but are so good I eat them anyways :)
