Review from Kat M.
I love the Cape and have had so many fun times in Woods hole! We came here after a night of dance party hilarity. We had gone to a couple of local bars and when we arrived home there were a group of people dancing in the living room. Friends of course, but it just gives you a sense of Woods hole. Staying up all night makes you hungry and thirsty so we decided on a spot where we could sit on the water, have Bloody Marys, and taste some local fresh shucked oysters.
The servers seemed to be young kids at their summer jobs and could have used a little better training on the menu. She was so sweet and compliant to all of our needs though. I ordered a Cuban sandwich with the famous cape cod chips. It was very good and I split it with Mr.B. My friend ED had a Mediterranean salad with couscous. Quite a bit of her lettuce was soggy and she picked it out. I didn't try hers but she said the couscous was delicious. Our other diner Mr. B ordered the oysters so that I could try them.
The day had a light breeze and smelled of the ocean and we watched the boats of all sizes and shapes bob in the calm water. As I'm writing I can feel the warm sun on my cheeks. It was a lovely lunch.
The bloodys came out quick and were seasoned the way I like with 4 huge green olives! It was my appetizer! I had visited in mid May so it was kind of brisk but also before the hoards of families migrate down after memorial day. It was peaceful and there was only us and another table sitting near us.
Finally it was time for me to have my very first oyster, they put some toppings and hot sauce and in it went. Slimy, briny, and so amazing! I've found me newest passion! They are aphrodisiacs right? So that's why I loved them so much. -

Shuckers is a 2 star restaurant.
1 star for the cheap rum punch that comes in a mason jar...pretty much the only thing on the menu worth the price.
1 star for the on-the-water atmosphere...although now there are 4 other options to eat on the water in Woods Hole.
Even the people that flock here are on par with the food. My first visit to Shuckers, I had some college-age girl waiting to fight me in the alley because I apparently gave her a dirty look. It was probably just a face in reaction to the food on my plate.
Swing by for a rum punch late night, but don't waste your time here for food. -

Food and drink just horrible all the way around. Not worth the view which is what I think they base their clientele on. They try and drag you in with the view and fresh juice cocktails but neither are worth it. I got a Lobster Roll and a Quahog for lunch which were both horrific! The quahog was not fresh, very chewy and the shell was becoming part of the meal. The lobster roll was an embarrassment. I could not even pick it up because the roll was swimming in a pool of butter...absolute mush! Stay away!!!! If I could give 0 star I would.

Mean owner! Stay away from this place. Too bad it is a nice location. The owner should have learned that being mean will bring him a nasty reputation but he does not seem to get it. Many people have issues with his seating policy. We ate outside the last time we ever went there and was told we could not change our table even though it had turned cold and the place was almost empty. Is he on a power trip? The food is not worth his rudeness. Only one star for location. Stay away!

I had the ahi tuna sandwich, it was good tuna and they were nice enough to wrap it in lettuce for me to avoid the bread. There is a good atmosphere here, I really liked sitting next to the bay and watching the boats.

I'm going to be nice and say the food was the worst I've had in years. I mean YEARS! I can't even remember the last time I had a meal this bad. Perhaps back in 2003 in Venice at this tourist trap where the food was so salty, we couldn't even swallow the pasta.
Anyway, we came to Cape Cod to get great seafood, which we know is around, (actually, we came for a wedding), but we were so hungry, we didn't take the time to research. So we just walked into Shuckers thinking, 'I bet all seafood around here must be somewhat okay. It's on the water with the best access to fresh seafood, so what can go wrong?'
So where do I start? All the oysters, clams, mussels were old and dry. I swear the clam chowder is from the can. The halibut had no taste. None. Zero. Didn't even taste like fish. Tasted like paper fired up on the grill that somehow lived to be served on a plate. The mash potatoes tasted like packaged mash potatoes. The only thing that was okay was the boiled lobster. But that's because the rest of the meal was so awful, the lobster that i would of given 2 out of 5 stars normally, seemed like 4 star lobster at the moment. The drinks were bad too. I couldn't finish it. That's coming from an alcoholic. Actually, I did finish it, and my wife's drink. Anything to help wipe my memory of the meal, which obviously didn't work because I'm writing about it right now.
The waitress was nice. She resembled Rachel Dratch from Saturday Night Live. We did have an issue with seating. They wouldn't seat us by the water with the nice view. Why not? They said they didn't have any 2 seaters there, only for groups of 4. So guess what? They sat us at a table for 4! Are you kidding me? We should of left right there, but like I said, we were hungry. I'm not even going to waste my time trying to deconstruct their logic, or stupidity for that matter. All I know is, the restaurant (if you want to call it that) was half empty the entire time we were there. The nice seats were available during our entire stay. And judging by the food, it'll probably remain empty forever. Good thing my wife and I were in good spirits which got us through the awful 'meal' (if you want to call it that). We couldn't stop laughing at how awful the meal was.
Anyway, we asked the locals later where should we eat, they gave us a few places, but without us even mentioning Shuckers, they told us not to go to Shuckers because "It's awful". We should of read Yelp or asked a local first. Better luck tomorrow. -

They have local oysters, but aren't great at shucking them. We had Wellfleets that had turbid, yellowy juice in them as if they had not been properly cleaned, the meat was not fully separated from the shell and thus was particularly hard to eat where no metal oyster/fish fork could be had.

The chowder was excellent as was our waitress, but that was about it. This is not the Shuckers that it used to be when I was growing up. It has the same great location, right on Eel Pond though.

Went there after a nice day at the beach and was pleasantly surprised. 3 of us ordered the twin lobster boil and a dz oysters and they were so delicious and so much food and so fresh.
the seating was beautiful too; right on the water and at nights the boats can dock there so you can see the boats while your eating.
Waitstaff was very friendly, patient, and helpful. it took us a bit to figure out what we wanted and she was extremely nice about answering our questions.
Found out the beer that is on tap the owner actually brews himself and it was delicious nice and light with a hint of nuttiness. Great for the super fresh seafood served there.
I would absolutely go back if I'm back in the area -

I've been here twice, and enjoyed myself both times! The first, we were there on a Friday night drinks and had some great fresh squeezed drinks. There was a decent crowd, small, but a mixture of locals and summer folks. The second time, we went on a Monday night and got dinner (plus those fruity drinks!)
Lobster roll -- Great!
Lobster/Clambake -- Great!
Caesar salad -- I forgot to ask, but she ate it all!
Service -- She was awesome, and we were one of the last tables to order that night.
(See added photos).
It's been a great time when we got to Falmouth. Also, the owner (I believe) was on hand both times and very much asked if we enjoyed ourselves.
Will definitely go back.Listed in: Cape-Tales

Every time I come to the cape, shuckers is just one of those places you have to go. Prices are decent, especially coming from the west coast. I always get the boiled lobster, why would you get anything else. I'm totally salivating just thinking about lobster...sniff sniff.
My only issues was the manager was an ass, we had a large party and had to split into 3 tables. we weren't even close to eachother. He wasn't very accommodating, which is frustrating when you bring 20+ people to your establishment. (1 star docked, i'm stickin it to the man). -

The view out to the pond is as nice as the food is terrible (that second star acknowledges the setting). This place exploits its location and plentiful tourist foot traffic, but it isn't counting on return visits.
The chicken sandwich was a tiny chicken breast on a small bun with a bag of chips and pickle laid alongside. No lettuce, no tomato, no fries, no substitutions. Half a cup of mac-n-cheese and another bag of Lay's was $7. Beer was about 6 oz. I won't be back.
Any other seafood joint on the strip blows this place away: Try the Kidd, Fishmonger, or Landfall and don't waste your money here. -

After yesterday's craziness, I think we're all wondering if Spring is coming; let alone Summer. One day girls are wearing shorts and skirts and the next, those darn North Face jackets again! But here's a heads up, as it is New England and the weather will change: Shuckers at Woods Hole.
One of the best locations anywhere to watch the sun set and the boats go by. I suggest staying at The Palmer House Inn in Falmouth and then driving to Shuckers for an early dinner.
Shrimp, cherrystones, oysters, crawfish, crab claws, marinated calamari & conch salads (ceviche style), and a selection of smoked fish...and they have an in-house microbrew called Nobska Light.
So, grab your flip flops, any piece of plaid summer clothing, maybe even seer-suckers, a baseball cap and sun-glasses and head on over to Shuckers. Ladies, no more fleece! -

Went for the Tuesday Twin Lobster deal. The location is great, very pretty. The service was very good. The food was good - come on it is lobster, corm, steamers and mussels. It is not hard to cook. The food tasted very good. The corn (not in local season) was tasty. The food was fresh (remember where you are). We also ordered off the children's menu - the food was good and the attempt at a happy meal (toy, chips and cookies) and crayons was well regarded. My experience is that you get what you expect - quality beer, lobster and others.
I would go again. -

I have been going to Woods Hole for almost 20 years so I have dinned in all the restaurants. Over the years I enjoyed the twin lobster deal on Tuesdays at Shuckers and some of their other dishes. Unfortunately, this year several people, including me, had horrible experiences with the manager (or owner, and overweighed guy). I have lived in several cities in the USA, including NYC and DC, and I have never been treated like this at any restaurant. He is extremely rude! He even threw out from the place a group of females (students at the MBL) because some issues they had with the orders. They were too polite and shocked to write a formal complain. I'm sure this guy can afford to treat people like he pleases as the place is always packed. My misfortune started when I made a reservation, in person and on the phone, to have a group of people accommodated in one table (for a final dinner at Woods Hole, while teaching at the MBL). They assured we would have the table yet when we arrived we found out this was not possible. He offered no apology and became angry when confronted with the fact that we had made several enquires about the arrangement and were assured about the reservation.
Please stay away from this place, you will patronizing an establishment run by the worst New England has to offer. -

Shuckers is an institution in Woods Hole. I visited the restaurant last weekend with some out of town guests. I had a cold split lobster that was very good. The prices were standard for a tourist-spot in the summer on Cape Cod, which is to say a little pricey. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The highlight may have been a blueberry lager that was sooo sweet and delicious, my friend from Atlanta wanted to find some to pack in her suitcase and take home.

Baked stuffed scrod was AHHHHMAZING. Literally, the best seafood dish I've ever had. Sangria was okay... very inconsistant. The first one was a stiffy and delicious, however the 2nd one was watery and not so good. I think the regular menu was a little pricey for what it is... however, to sit on the water & enjoy dinner it was well worth it. Definitely take advantage of the specials because they are delicious and a great value. If you are in woods hole, I would definitely recommend this for dinner!

Went there at 2 in the middle of the week with a party of 11 people. Lots of empty tables but they insisted we sit at one long table that really held about 8. We asked for the teenage boys to sit at an adjoining table so we would have room. No. Sorry . Waitress told us we were welcome to go to another restaurant. So we did. Will never go back there. Ate at Fishmonger's - excellent!

They've got GREAT daily specials. $12.99 for a HUGE lobster roll with potato chips on Wednesdays, and $17.99 for a lobster dinner on Thursdays. We went on Wednesday and both got lobster rolls. I couldn't even finish mine! It did need a little bit of salt and pepper but I really have no complaints. The outdoor seating is nice, too.

Tuesday nights = 30% off your meal! Slow cooked prime rib special for you meat eaters only on Tuesdays.
I had a gin martini (well made) and a local beer on tap (also light and delicious). I had the appetizer Tuna Tartar with raw Ahi tuna, a wasabi sauce and onions on black corn chips...yum!
The meal was the matching seared Ahi tuna salad with a similar wasabi/ranch dressing.
Service was great, atmosphere is a small place on the boat docks of Woods hole. We were on the attached covered/heated dock overlooking the water.
I highly recommend Tuesdays nights at Shuckers. A+
Tuesday nights make a $15/meal restaurant into an affordable delicious med-week treat. -

They don't even deserve a 1 star. We stopped in with 5 kids, ages 12-15, and 4 adults on a Tues at 4:30 PM and no one was there. They would not sit us on the upper deck with a little better view. The hostess said "Sorry, but it's Manager's Rule." So... we asked to speak to the manager. She would not budge. She said those tables were not for large parties. We asked to split ourselves from the kids. She said "That's the problem." I'm sure they discriminate against kids - Not a kid friendly restaurant. We walked out and had a very nice meal at Fishmonger's, nicer staff by the way. Don't waste your time at Shuckers! The manger had said they were having about 300 people within the next hour and needed those tables on the upper deck. We went back after dinner to Shuckers with our itemized $200 bill to show them what they missed out on. All the manager kept saying was "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Guess what, there wasn't 300 people there. Yet, in their small thinking world... they were probably thinking they didn't need our money since it's tourist season and they'd get the money elsewhere. Note to the owner of Shuckers - Bad reputation will take you down.

I've been going to shuckers for YEARS with my family. I always assumed we went there because it was the best. This year we went for my grandfathers 90th birthday and it was decent but I noticed something that I had never noticed before...its not really THAT good and the management kind of sucks. I've decided that this place is kind of overrated. I might have given it 2 stars but I didn't have the heart...

There are many better options in this area, especially for this price. I recommend skipping this place. Scallops were overcooked and rubbery, and the sauce used was far too salty. The Lobster Boil was pathetic - a tiny lobster paired with old, shriveled up corn. White wine was served warm. Margarita was the worst I've ever had - it tasted more like an icy, watered down froth. Salad was waxy and did not taste/look fresh. Uncomfortable seating (think it might have been plastic chairs and table?) and flimsy plastic plates. And the worst part was that a man who appeared to be the owner was blatantly rude to patrons. When we expressed our dissatisfaction with our dining experience, he told us in a gruff, abrasive tone, "if you don't like it, then order something else." AS IF we wanted to spend more money ordering more disappointing food/drink at this place! This man obviously missed a few key lessons in hospitality school. Generally unpleasant. I am local but have vowed to never return to Shuckers.
