This is a tough review because there were some highs and some lows at Shuck Daddy's.

2 Bloody Marys
2 Domestic Light Beers
2 Dozen Oysters on the Half-shell
1 Feast (1/2 lb Spicy Cajun Shrimp, 1 lb Plain Crab)
1 Extra LB of Plain steamed crab

As someone else stated, there really aren't many places you can go and get your hands dirty with seafood on a cloudy Sunday. It was really the right place for the moment today. That counts for something.

The service was excellent in my experience. The waitress was There when we needed her at every turn and made sure we never went empty on beer or water. Good solid service- much appreciated.

To state it plainly the Seafood- was just too salty. Everything from the oysters to the crab was extremely salty. This made drinking down some beer pretty easy, but towards the end of the meal we were just parched. I want to temper anyone reading by stating that I know fresh seafood should have a briny crispness. This just tasted like the seafood was cooked in the Great Salt Lake, maybe they should taste the water that they are boiling the food in every once in a while.

The patio looked great for a birthday party or some beers with friends on a Sunday. The Bloody Marys were a tangy and tasted great with a little bit of Tabasco.

I think it will be a great place to have a big group... or nurse a hangover.

Shuck Daddy's is one of those places that if you live where I live you are constantly passing it saying hmmm I wonder if that place is any good. We should try it. It looks pretty cool.

Well I read all of the Yelp reviews and thought maybe I shouldn't.... but then I considered that they are new and may just need some time to get their shit together/work out the kinks. I gave them a get out of jail free. But resolved to judge them harshly since they have had at least a couple of months to do just that. So this past Wednesday we went to check it out and I'm glad we did.

When we walked in we were greeted with a "Welcome to Shuck Daddy's" you get to pick your table. Oh no, not one of those places. The kind that remind you of a fast food restaurant. But I guess they just want us to feel welcome.  I just feel cheap when they tell me that and are they going to respect me in the morning?

Your choice is Park bench, booth or sit at the big round bar or outside on the large patio. We elected to go for the booth. The world series was on and it was easy to watch the action while still pretending to pay attention to my wife. ; ) Too bad the Yanks won but our former Astro Andy Pettit was pitching so I was conflicted.

We ordered beers and each time the brought frosty mugs straight from the freezer. Very nice!! We ordered a bacon wrapped shrimp with cheese and tomatillo salsa. It was scrumptious!

Then we split the all in one works of a 1/2 lb shrimp 1 lb snow crab and all the fixings like corn, sausage, and potatoes. This was crack and peal and they gave us bibs and utensils. We had a lot of fun with this and laughed at each other on several occasions. It can get a little messy for sure but the food was hot and just a little spicy and went well with the ultra cool beers. By the way each time we ordered a beer it came with another frosty mug. Our waitress was very attentive and received more than 20% from us because she was helpful and just plane nice. The only complaints we have about Shuck Daddy's is that it was a bit cool in there, we were right under the vent and they had live patio music that at times conflicted with the in house music.

However, I'm still recommending you check this place out. The whole experience was very good Yummy even and we will be back.

Do we really need this many different types of tables?!  Tables for the indecisive.

We walked in and couldn't decide what kind of table to sit at.  There are tall bar tables with tall stools, picnic benches, hard wooden booths and regular height tables with chairs.  This doesn't include the tables out on the patio (where nasty smoking goes on).  We settled into a booth where the waitress brought us a huge piece of paper to cover the table.  We ordered diet cokes and had to get them in the bottle because they don't have a fountain drink machine yet.  The drinks were $2.25 a piece.  I might as well drink beer for these prices!

Food:  We ordered the chicken tenders poboy and the jumbo fried shrimp, both with sweet potato fries.  The food came fast and was correct.  At other places, you tend to get a small portion of sweet potato fries, but here the side of fries is HUGE! A small sweet potato family must of died for my meal.  Our food was good (although I can't be completely sure because we had just come from a 'miracle berry' party).

This was a Wednesday night and the place was mostly empty.  I was definitely surprised that as we were eating we were asked if we needed a to-go container.  How do I know?  I'm still eating!  Then we were asked about dessert and our check was dropped as we were still eating.  Were they desperate for the table? We didn't address the bill right away.  The waitress came to get the check even though we hadn't touched it and we had to explain that there was nothing in it yet.  I haven't felt so rushed to get out of a place in a long time.

So, to sum up... no soda machine yet (so $$ sodas), large mostly empty restaurant, decent food with large portions, and hurried waitstaff.

All in all it was just 'ok'.  I doubt we'll be back, but I wouldn't bad mouth the place.  So, 3 stars it is.

We came here for happy hour one day in hopes for "all you can eat shrimp" one Tuesday.  As I feared, they are not running this special anymore, but after eating a half dozen, I concluded that I probably wouldn't eat that many anyway (not that they are bad, but I'm just limited on boiled shrimp binges).

During happy hour, the appetizers are half off, which was gave us a chance to try out random items on the menu.  The spinach/shrimp/crap dip is awesome!!  The boiled shrimp are decent-sized, but could have been a couple of degrees colder.  The oysters are meh, mediocre, but not bad.  We also tried the shrimp and fish tacos, which were also just okay.

The atmosphere is casual--white paper on picnic tables supplied with a roll of paper towels.  It's BYOW with a $5 corking fee, but I'm not sure how long that will last once they employ their full bar liquor license.  There are many tvs to watch sports on any given weekend and a patio outside for you smokers or non-ac types :) I enjoyed my meal here, but have suspicions that this location may be jinxed and consequently, may not last too long.  I hope that things will change and the atmosphere will start to flourish.

This restaurant opened up right around the corner from my boyfriends house and we actually kept putting off going...
But finally one day last week we decided to walk over...and we were so happy we did!!

The restaurant is big and open...not too crowded and tables are spread apart.  Huge bar area that will actually be serving liquor soon, instead of beer and wine only.  Large out door patio area...TV's on the walls...and great service.
My boyfriend ordered a Grouper Po-Boy and I got Grilled Chicken Fingers and Sweet Potatoe Fries.  IT WAS DELICIOUS!
We both loved our meals and wish we had tried this place sooner :)

OK, so I'm driving around jonesing for an FTR (First To Review), because that's what Yelp does to you, and I happen to roll upon Shuck Daddy's "Now Open" sign. I pull out my Blackberry and look it up, Score!

Shuck Daddy's is located where Mack Chin's used to be, a complete remodel later and it has opened to the public. The name alone should tell you the concept is an oyster bar with peel and eat shrimp, crawfish, and two types of crab legs (snow & king). It looks like they gutted the Front of the House, and kept the kitchen. As you walk in you are greeted by a hostess and a square bar that sits in the middle of the restaurant. You have access to it at all sides. They have an OK beer selection, but nothing on tap. The entire beer selection is sitting in tubs of ice, so you know it will be cold, unfortunately they do not have a liquor license so none of the hard stuff.  Shuck Daddy's does have a small wine selection, but since they only have a beer and wine license they are promoting BYOW with a $7 cork fee.

On this day I tried the grilled shrimp tacos and and the gumbo.  The shrimp tacos were good with slaw and the house verde sauce.  The gumbo was OK, I would order it again.  I thought the fish could have been broken up a bit.  The menu has fried seafood platters with some po-boys and baked oyster options.

I like the concept, I always thought Mak Chin's had a great patio and they kept that intact.  The restaurant/bar was new and clean, but almost to sterile for an oyster bar.  They don't have a happy hour yet, which I think they need to get on board with and lets get a liquor license.  Hurricanes and margaritas certainly can't hurt.

From the ashes of Mak Chin's, Shuck Daddy's brings a cool oyster shack raw bar  to the Washington Heights area.  Being from North Carolina, I was impressed by the authenticity of Shuck Daddy's.  I love how they place wax paper on the table when you arrive. The patio is huge and part of it is covered with fans and misting machines.  They offer a very simple menu of raw and steamed seafood with some twists for the Texas palate (fish and shrimp tacos, po boys, and some interesting roasted oyster offerings).

This review is based on a couple of beers on the patio last night.  We did not have time to eat, but everyone around us seemed happy with their food...lots of oysters on the half shell and crab legs were being consumed by bib-wearing adults.

My only disappointments are the lack of holes in the middle of the table (a Southern tradition and where you throw your oyster shells, corn cobs, and "boat trash".)  And, the lack of liquor.  Oyster shooters are a staple where I'm from.  I would think Texans would love a shot of vodka with an oyster and some hot sauce!

Shuck Daddy's will be the place to go in flip flops and shorts for casual beers and easy dinner with friends when your dreaming of the beach.

We visited on a recent Sunday afternoon and the place was pretty empty.  I was anxious to see what they had done outside since Mak Chin's patio was so great, but it was a huge disappointment.  Wooden benches, paper sheet table coverings, paper towels and not much else to speak of.

We ordered the fish basket, Rockefeller oysters and a pound of crawfish. Apparently they do not have a liquor license and only serve beer. So not being a beer drinker I was bummed about that.

The fish basket was basically fried frozen fish pieces.  I mentioned that the seasoned fries were too spicy for me and our server was nice and she offered to bring me the sweet potato fries.  15 minutes later she asked how the sweet potato fries were. I told her I never received them.  She was surprised and said "he told me he brought them out to you".

My hubby's one pound of crawfish wasn't too filling so he went ahead ordered a dozen boiled shrimp.  A few minutes later the sweet potato fries and the shrimp arrived. Nicely enough she said the manager comp'd the shrimp since we had an issue with the fries. Once again, frozen fries.  I will say the boiled shrimp were huge as were the oysters.

Unfortunately, there wasn't anything special enough about this visit to warrant a return visit. For good quality seafood I will stick to Pappadeaux.

I was driving around with some friends, looking for something to eat just before 10pm on a Sunday evening, and having no luck at all. A few places had closed their kitchens early, but I definitely lights on, and customers eating, over at the old Mack Chin's.

Shuck Daddy's is not Mack Chin's. Shuck Daddy's is something else all together. A bit loud inside, even with only a few customers in there, this place is a nifty little oyster shack. I had the combo basket with Fish and Oysters. Both were fried in a nice, light batter that had just the right amount of crispness, and clung to the food well. The fish was surprisingly tender, and just melted away in my mouth. The oysters were good, but nothing really stood out to me about them.

The beer selection was suprisingly good, and featured a few of the more local craft breweries, such as St. Arnold, Real Ale, and Abita, as well as the normal selections. They have wine, but the by the glass costs were a bit on the expensive side, according to my wine drinking friends. The corking fee is $7 if you bring your own.

I would say that the flavors are good here, but the prices feel just a little high for what you get. My two plate combo, garlic bread appetizer, and one Abita Purple Haze cost me $20.

Best grilled shrimp tacos I have had in a long time! The green tomatillo sauce makes the tacos.

Not many places that you can go to get your hands dirty in seafood, have a nice wall of tv's to watch, helpful staff and a reasonable bill. We (my girlfrend and I) had a great time. Not a pappadeaux, but that's not what this place is aiming for.

In a Shepherd location that has undergone several iterations of restaurant, Shuck Daddy's has planted its flag, and will hopefully stick around for awhile. A nice large dining area with a sizeable bar smack dab in the center with several TVs lining the perimeter, you immediately feel the warm, lively atmosphere. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful, sure to explain any new specials or additions to the menu. The simple, double-sided sheet hits all the high notes of a primarily seafood establishment: crawfish, shrimp, and lobster by the pound, tacos, po-boys, and baskets - and you can pretty much mix and match anything. The now-ubiquitous fish tacos were good, though I preferred the grilled shrimp to the rather bland fried white fish.  The tacos themselves were stuffed to the gills, however, as are the po-boys, with accoutrements. On the side, Shuck Daddy's offers hush puppies, fries (Cajun-seasoned or regular), and huge, flaky fried onion rings. This last trip I started off a new appetizer on the menu, a spinach and cheese dip with shrimp and crab meat, which was warm and delicious heaped onto some buttered, toasted French bread. With a reasonable tab at the end, it was a shuckin' great meal!

I was very impressed with the transition from Mak Chin's to Shuck Daddy's.  It was a very different place;  cool and relaxed.  You just gotta love the recycled wood paneling and the finishing touches they've made to make this place look like it's been around for years.  I had the grilled fish PoBoy with sweet potato fries, which did not disappoint.  What impressed me the most about this new restaurant is the wait staff.  Caitlin, our waitress was very attentive to our needs and deserves 4 stars for service.

I love this place.  I have had the sweet tater fries and they are great.  I have eaten the snow crab with lemon pepper and the seasonning is great.  I have tried to healthy fish tacos grilled and I lvoed them.  My bf gets the snow crab with the yummy sausage.  He has tried to fried fish and it was okay.  The service is good ask for Crystal.  I like that they have good wine and beers.  I think that the food is really good and messy.  It is very laid back and the staff is friendly.  It may be a little salty but not in a bad way.  I do at least once a week:)

Oysters and shrimp and jalapeños oh my! The oysters with garlic butter, the shrimp with lemon pepper, the jalapeños stuffed with crab--and all washed down with cold beer. We also had shrimp tacos, shrimp poor boys, fries and onion rings at our table. Casual comfortable dining, good food and attentive waitstaff will have me going back soon!
