Two vegans, driving up 95 on their way to Providence. Starving. Stuck in traffic... thank god for the iPhone.

This little gem is tucked away in a very unsuspecting part of Connecticut. A whole second of items marked as vegan, including vegan desserts!

I was certainly not expecting to get anything above-average in taste from this place, but the menu was actually quite creative for a non-vegetarian place. I ended up with a Tempeh Rueben that RIVALS any that you'll find in Chicago Diner, Curly's or any other big-name veg restaurants. I don't know what they did, but it was awesome. Husband had something good too, but I can't even remember because I was too busy hoarding my rueben from him.

The desserts were awesome too! A vegan napeleon and a banana-chocolate cake that was rich and not too sweet. Such a good find!

I grew up in Guilford, and while "the diner" is a good place to grab a bite to eat if your kitchen is empty and you're feeling kinda lazy, it is in no way a notable eatery. As a non-vegetarian, their dishes are typically bland and haphazardly put together. I'm kind of amazed the reviews have been so positive, but I chalk it up to Yelp score-inflation.

Considering the lack of any real eateries in Guilford, however, if you're driving through on Route 1 or I-95 and ABSOLUTELY need to eat IMMEDIATELY, there are certainly worse places on the route than "the Diner."

It's tough to rate a range of different eateries with the same star system. This is a diner. So when I rate, I rate on what is met concerning expectations. I am not a vegitarian, but I will opt to eat veg meals when offered a good variety. I had the veggie Reuben here and I liked it a lot. This place is clean & cares about what it puts out. It's a good stop right of 95, & a better alternative to fast food.

A dinner on Rt 1, it's very easy to find, just look for the huge oil tank near it.  Vegetarian Enclave is a strange name and not really true because they serve plenty of meat things too. In fact the menu is expansive and takes a while to get through it, lots of strange dishes.  Makes for some interesting reading. The first time I went there I wasn't sure what half of the things were.

The food is pretty good, especially considering how many different and unusual things they serve. It's still basically a dinner so it's hardly gourmet food but it is some place to go when you want something different and strange but still edible.

(vegetarian / vegan review)

I'm vegetarian, and so is my girlfriend. Driving through Connecticut at 10pm, we didn't expect to find a vegetarian-friendly sit-down restaurant... but we did! Service was fast and efficient (if not overly friendly), the vegetarian selection was surprisingly varied, and we ended up having a very nice dinner stop.

Both of us had the veggie burger with fries. Expecting a long drive back (and no open food places), I also ordered a Tempeh Reuben to go, and substituted the french fries for fruit salad. The Reuben was meh. The fruit salad was surprisingly delicious.

Big portions, good prices, excellent taste! The vegan sampler starter for two is so big it's enough to whet the appetites of four people. The joint is only a little ways off I95 and really worth the stop.

Tempeh Reuben. OK, now that I've got your attention with that controversial phrase, here's a long, boring rant:

If you've ever taken a vegetarian to your favorite Thai restaurant (just an example) and had them question the staff about the presence of, say, fish sauce in the Pad Thai, you'll appreciate this place. There you, fishy meat-eater sit, at your Thai restaurant, hoping that for your sake and the sake of people with taste buds everywhere, the Pad Thai *does* have fish sauce in it. And eggs and . . . While your vegetarian listens impatiently (if at all) and gets all huffy and anxious.

Here, at the Shoreline Diner and Vegetarian Enclave, you can order yourself some basic diner food, smile winningly at your vegetarian and say, with a devil-may-care attitude, "I'm sure the Tempeh Reuben is great." And your vegetarians don't have to annoy the hell out of everyone at your favorite place to get actual cuisine. The food doesn't really taste very good, but that's not the issue, is it?

The salads are good, but they have no spinach salad. Weak.

7 AM to midnight, in a Greek diner setting, complete with neon.

Lipstick on my coffee cup and a black CURLY hair in my food.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...

Food, not so good. Weird apologetic rant on the cover of the menu explaining that vegetarians do not dislike meat eaters or mean to offend them, and they aim to bring eveyone together by serving both types... strange.

When you see a sign for food on the highway (95) you don't expect it to read "vegetarian enclave". It was strange to see that next to the usual disgusting chain food pit stop options.

This diner is pretty wacky. The menu reads like a novel, and I was really surprised to see a fair amount of vegan/vegetarian options on the menu. I got the tempeh reuben and it was great! Greasy, but great. The cappuccino with soy wasn't so bad either.

So when you're on the road, stop off here. I'm not sure who frequents this place in the area but I hope they keep the veg stuff on the menu.

Great diner food: the corned-beef hash is good and, incongruous as this  may sound, it's great to have vegetarian options out here. The banana pancakes are quite tasty.

i came here for a pit stop on my first (and only) trip to connecticut.  i was amused by the sign saying "vegetarian enclave".  i'd never even heard of such a thing.  my boyfriend and i went inside and found your standard diner, but they have a huge menu.  i LOVE the picture on the menu of the food lifting weights and whatnot.  the food was pretty good-i got a gardenburger and fries and both were great.  our waitress was nice and attentive too.
