contrary to my cold hard exterior, i can sometimes be a typical girl.
hugging puppies.
puffy painting t-shirts.
picking flowers.
and
buying shoes.
shoe market (the sister store of mini mini market) is a good shoe store. they don't have a huge selection, but what they do have is seasonal and current.
super adorable sandals now belong to me and i have a feeling that other shoes that are currently subletting at shoe market will soon be permeant tenants of my apartment.
Shoe Market has great shoes and was running a great summer sale the other day, but more often that not, the people in the store are not too friendly. I totally agree with the person who said that they felt like a nuisance.
I've actually left the store without buying anything, not because I didn't want to, but because I was being ignored. I feel like if you don't have a certain look, or don't look like you can afford the slightly overpriced shoes, you'll get passed over for a hipster.
1st I will say this - The guys who work there - are awesome.
BUT - Here we go - again. Simply OVERPRICED. I'm also simply over it. A good shop to peep shoes and then do your homework to buy elsewhere.
Perfect example: Justin Boots priced at $140.00 (i bought these - because i had a store credit - which forces you to buy shoes there). Glad I've finally used my store credit and paid $50.00 more than i should have -- right....(okay with the $8 shipping through boot barn, I still would have saved $42!!)
Here they are for $90.00!!

I didn't use to really like this store but it grew on me. It has a good selection of shoes across a pretty broad price range. I know that some of the employees can be a little bitchy, but I think you just have to ask someone who looks friendly for help - otherwise you might be in for a little snarkiness.
I special ordered a pair of Sven clog/heels here and the shopgirl was quite friendly. She didn't really know what she was doing (it was her first time filling all the info out and she got some of the pricing wrong) but she was sweet so it was hard to get frustrated with her.
Sales here are usually pretty good too if you try and scoop something up early when there's still sizes and styles left.
their buyer seems to have raided my moms shoe closet circa 1979-1992. By that i mean, they have flawless taste and i want ALL OF IT in an 8.
+ they carry great brands
+ they are great at curating the best & most unusual offerings from those brands
+ the merchandise is consistently turned over at pretty good sales
- the set up makes shopping hard--too much squeezing between other customers & the displays
- the staff is laconic
- enough with the fucking Sperrys already
In short, not the ideal shoe store, but the best Williamsburg has for now. Which isn't, I guess, saying much.
I love this store. I love the humorous employees who laugh at my jokes. Finding Williamsburg boutique employees that actually appear to enjoy interacting with their patrons in is no small feat, I tell you what. I love all the shoes they have. Even the mens shoes. I heard that Jeffrey Campbell designs a few shoes specifically for Shoe Market, pretty cool, huh?
Sadly, I cannot afford to buy anything in this store. I'm not too sure if it's all because of mark up though. A friend and I tried to order some Tretorn rain boots from the Tretorn website because Shoe Market didn't have her size and the Shoe Market ones were $10 cheaper.
Ok, so this place is a little pricier than some other shoe stores. But Shoe Market is the only shoe store in the area, so I guess they can get away with that. Some people are just too lazy to take the L to Manhattan to shop (myself included).
Shoe Market has a okay selection of shoes for both men and women. Heels, casual shoes, boots, etc for women. Sneakers and boots mainly for men. I've found some very cute things in there and they usually have a large sale selection with many $40-60 shoes.
This place gets 4 stars alone for saving my poor, cut-up, blistered feet from uncomfortable shoes! The $15 Havianas saved the day (decent selection for men's and women's). That may sound expensive for flip-flops, but given their soft, comfortable but firmly supportive footbed and how long they last compared to less expensive flip-flops, they are totally worth it. For that, an otherwise mediocre place will get bumped up to 4 stars.
There are cute shoes here, but for what they are, it's not exactly a great deal. Just because they're hip, cute, and pricey, it does not a value make. If you look carefully at the construction of most of the shoes in this shop, they're actually a bit on the shabby side. Given the $100-$300 price tags they command, for that quality, it's a sham... which, let's face it, is like most of the boutiques in Williamsburg. Since it's the only real shoe market in the area, it's easy to look like the best.
Talk about a mark up!
Save your time and your money -head over to the row of shoe stores on 14th street.
I find that Shoe Market's prices are normally $35 more then what they would normally retail for. Since I live around the corner, I usually try on shoes there and then order them offline for half the price.
What love is lost over the prices is won back on selection in one location.
I just bought the raddest pair of yellow rain boots here. I had no intention of buying them, right then and there, but the shoes fit perfect and the dude helping my friend and I out was super nice, helpful and funny (and I had been considering getting yellow rain boots for some time).
Great shopping experience and from what i can tell their sales are pretty bomb.
The shoes are awesome, some of the staff are not. If not feeling like a nuisance when you're about to spend $100+ is something you desire, don't shop here. It's a shame a few terrible sales people can turn you off of a store.
Shoe market is handsdown the best shoe store in this area. The selection of must haves and much needed is endless. I will say this...don't ponder, they run out fast. The store turns over styles and is always onto the next thing. I appreciate the selection of mens shoes which are wear able and a bit forward---but not crazy $. The staff is like a group of friends who share books and swap DVDs at weekend potlucks. I mean...who doesn't want that.
Aside from being one of the few places to buy shoes in the Bedord area, it is also the coolest place to buy shoes in the Bedford area. They have their fingers on the pulse of what is hip, comfortable, and sexy. They also have kick-ass sales. I just snapped up a pair of boots that had been $290 for - get this -- $100. Not too shabby. The only downside for me had been the over the top I'm too cool for you hipsterism, but the sales guy who waited on me the last time I was in redeemed himself with his ironic sense of humor.
I believe this store is akin to Mini Mini Market that lives in the Bedford Mini-mall down on Bedford and North 5th. This is a shoe lovers haven... all the convenience of a Manhattan shoe store in Williamsburg for all to enjoy. There are both men's and women's casual and dressy styles to choose from and I'm actually bit scared that it has opened up with such great proximity to my house. My closet has absolutely no more room for shoes! None!
i like these shoes. but i wish these places would stop copping my style to make it easily available for trendy biatches. someone owes me something somewhere.
