6 reviews for Shochan Hiroshimayaki
Tried out this place for the first time the other time and I was pretty impressed. Maybe it was because I didn't expect much from this place to begin with anyways.
Anyways, I got the regular hiroshimayaki and added in some cheese and mochi. Mmmmm, good! I told them to take out the meat since I don't eat it. My friend got one with green onions, and OMG they packed that thing with green onions!!! LoL.
It was kinda weird though because we were the ONLY ones in there. I think it's a matter of time before they close....*sniff*
fyi, it appears they've closed up shop as of last week 10/30/09.
I missed Japan. I missed Okonomiyaki. My friend saw my tears, and told me where I could go to dry them.
What was hiroshimayaki? Iono. Let me eat it.
Yakisoba....bacon...eggs...nice. Worcestershire sauce...nice. Mayo....UNBELIEVABLE! Complimentary tea after your meal is over...check. Good service...check...a little slow...check. Discount for UH students? Check. You regretting coming here? No check.
Go eat here. Then lie down. Then get GERD. Then tell yourself you don't regret it.
And mean it.
Recommended to me by a friend who I met there for lunch. It seemed really slow for a lunch time and I think it has something to do with it being tucked away and hard to see from University. Parking is easy, just go up the ramp to the paid parking. The restaurant will validate for 1 hour (which should be plenty of time).
Service is excellent, food was great, portions were just right. I really enjoyed the Hiroshimayaki (just like Scott) and highly recommend this place if you like very authentic Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki. UH students get a discount.
If you like Japanese Okonomiyaki in the Hiroshima style, check this place out. The Hiroshimayaki at lunch is $7.50 and $10.50 at dinner. It's served on a hot sizzling iron plate. It was very good, but I still like Chibo Okonomiyaki better. Of course Chibo is way more expensive. At Chibo you also get to watch them make it, which is fun.
I really enjoyed my Hirosimayaki, but missed the "dancing" bonito flakes on top that I've had at the other places in town.
Same place as Varsity, The Greek Corner (or something along those lines), and Cocoichiban, near University.
We go here pretty often enough to say I'm a fan. UH students with ID get 10% off, parking I think is around 3.00 or less pending the time you are there. Parking is decent so long you come earlier then the drinking crowd. The portion is good for the price. Cute small place, with only a few choices for dinner. Okonomiyaki sauce is on the table in a syrup jar! that my friends, is thee most important info I can give you!
The cutest thing is that located on the table has a step by step instruction on how to cut your okonomiyaki!
