I've never stepped foot in this restaurant because they're fast, free, and reliable delivery is all I need!

Extensive Chinese and Japanese menu from which I've ordered a variety of dishes over the last 4 years.  Everything has been tasty and prepared well, I've never received sushi that was not fresh.

I always order online to get my specifications (not spicy, sauce on the side) in writing, because calling them to make/change an order is a hassle (I'm Chinese-American and I can't even understand their accent!).  Now you can order through Eat24Hours which offers even more free coupons and a better satisfaction guarantee.

Shiso's is the go to delivery place to keep my belly happy!

Had a horrible experience with Shiso. I was a regular customer, ordering delivery for the family and I at least 1x a week. The food is amazing, but it does not make up for what they lack in customer service.

I was over charged on my card (they ran my total, plus added the SAME AMOUNT of my total, under the tip section as well. We noticed it and told them we would not sign for that order, and needed the amount charged to my account fixed.

They NEVER fixed it. Instead, had me call back daily, to speak to a new manager. None of which, ever helped me. In fact, I had one HANG UP ON ME, saying there was nothing she could do for me. I wish i was lying about that. I offered to give me credit to the restaruant, as I order from them often. They instead only offered me half credit for the restaurant.

I had to go to my bank, to file a dispute to get my money back. I have not ordered from them since then, nor will I ever again.

    Wow. Not good.

Prawns with portabello mushrooms, asked for extra spicy, came bland. Asked for no or low oil, came greasy.

Tofu with broccoli asked for extra spicy and low oil, came totally bland.

Ordered chinese salad for $4.95 and received 4 bites of shredded iceberg lettuce with 1 thinly sliced cucumber.

Delivery time: said 30-45 minutes, took about 55min.

    Never, ever, again.

Eww, the sushi here was so gross.  The tuna and yellowtail had a really strong really fishy taste.  It was as if they went to an old fish market and rubbed the rolls on the walls and counter! Yuk!

I ate an entire roll, telling myself that maybe I was making a big woop about nothing but by the end of that roll, I had to toss the rest away because it was nast-E.

You can do better than Shiso

The general chicken is delicious. Wor won ton soup, honey walnut prawns were so light and crispy. Ginger Beef  tasty! Shiso fried rice, general chicken was perfect! We 5 adults had plenty of food and mango pudding for dessert for $50.00. Shiso is the Best I have tasted in San Francisco or anywhere else. The place is clean and service, great!

Meh really about sums this place up.

On the plus side, it's cheap. On the minus side, the food tastes cheap. And on the double-plus extra minus side, the last two times I ordered the shrimp tempura roll, it was missing the avocado. I felt cheated.

Spend a few dollars more and go to Henry's Hunan for Chinese. Or spend a few dollars less and go to Taqueria Can-Cun for a burrito (they've never stiffed me on the avocado front, either). Either option will be more satisfying.

wow what happened?, We ordered 2 steaks and they were cold, i ordered mine rare but it was raw, I had to cook it some more and no I'm not being picky about rare beef, this was raw. also I had to heat it up anyways, My girlfriend's steak was mostly fat she tried to eat a few bites but left it, everything else was fine which was weird, the rice was hot, the salad was crisp and the miso was hot. I hope this was a one time thing.

I've only ever ordered sushi from Shiso, and its pretty good.  I love the firework roll, and the negi hamachi rolls taste really fresh compared to some others that I've had.  Delivery time was a little slow for me, but the taste is worth the wait.

We've gotten delivery from here a few times and it has always been very fast (under 40 minutes) and very fresh. And they let you order online, which is incredibly convenient. We tried the half peking duck ($12.95), Har gow ($3.95), bbq pork buns ($3.25), singapore noodles ($6.95), "General Tao's" chicken ($7.95), Kung Pao Chicken ($7.95), and the Broccoli Beef ($7.95). That's a pretty mixed variety and the last time we got a free chicken chow mein for ordering so much.

I can't really comment on the authenticity of some of the dishes as I don't know that I have every really had the authentic versions. For example, I have heard that General Tao's chicken is not even a real dish in China, but this version was very tasty, authentic or not. Not just some sugary Panda Express crap, this actually had veggies and chili peppers and was a bit more savory and spicy. the kung pao was just okay, not really into the cashews and whatnot, but otherwise, not bad. Not very spicy though. The broccoli beef was very good, perfectly, lighly cooked broccoli. Very enjoyable dish.

The real standout that we had to order again though was the Singapore noodles. These are very thin rice noodles cooked with veggies, meat and curry powder and are just the most amazing flavor! Definitely worth a try if you've never had the. See them a lot up here in SF, but could rarely find them in SoCal. The Har Gow were actually better than what I expected them to be. Decent flavor, not too mushy considering they were delivered. The BBQ pork buns though were not very good. There was barely any meat, the meat was too sweet, and way too much dough.

The peking duck was an exciting adventure. Not the way I've had it before where they give you the little round buns and hoisin sauce. We got the hoisin, but they gave us these flat (rice?) tortila things and some green onion and we made little duck burritos out of them. The duck was very good, but not the best I have every had. No complaints though, it was a solid dish, if not a bit pricey. Finally, the free chow mein was actually very, very good. We thought it would be just a small throw in, but it was definitely a full-sized dish. Well done Shiso. Not sure that I will try your sushi, but keep up the good work.

Desperately wanted some sashimi for lunch, and most places in my neighborhood that deliver don't open till the evening. So I took a risk with a new place.
Win! Exceptionally easy online ordering, and quick delivery. The fish was fresh (and beautifully displayed in my clear plastic to-go box). Good choice for Japanese, I say.

Shiso is my newest food delivery addiction and their sashimi is excellent, as are their rolls.

Perfect for when you can't decide, or if you're like me and have a 3 yo who doesn't yet enjoy raw fish, Shiso is a great find!  Japanese and Chinese food delivery - genius!

From the four times I've ordered takeout, Shiso has delivered beautifully packaged sashimi, all thick, buttery slices of hamachi and albacore and delicious rolls. Their prices are moderate and the quality is very good.

Shiso packages separately any hot items so the tomato beef chow mein I ordered for my little one (which smelled and looked delicious) didn't take the chill off the sashimi and rolls I ordered for myself. They even saran-wrap the containers of soy sauce so they don't spill. Extra wasabi and ginger - no problem!

Generous portions of everything at a good price point, I'm happy I found Shiso on Yelp!

I do still enjoy the food here, and the delivery is fast and reliable.

However, I need to take away a star because they did not honor a coupon posted on their online ordering site. Site listed the free item with $16 purchase. After placing my order, they called to say I had to spend $20 to get the free item. Not cool, Shiso, not cool.

The rumor is this place is owned by the same people as Jasmine Tea House down the street.  You wouldn't think that passing by, as it's not much to behold.

I tried the Kung Pao Chicken, Mango Beef, Mongolian Beef and Pot Stickers.  Packaged to go in reusable Tupperware like containers, I can tell the recipe for each is nearly identical to Jasmine.  The chicken was all white meat, which is hard to find without asking.  The meat and veggies were all cut into large pieces.  Everything had a good amount of heat but it's never enough for me.  The pot stickers were full of meat and veggies in a good 50/50 ratio.

It's even closer to me than Jasmine and will be back here for lunch specials, none of which are over $5.  They even packed the soup to go.  They also serve Japanese food and sushi.

Smallish restaurant and looks to be more for delivery or to go.  Just goes to show that looks are deceiving.

Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing.
Two japanese salads (iceberg and strange pink dressing)
Steamed Pork Buns (stale and re-heated, thick skin, smelled funny)
Mongolian Beef (fatty, slippery strips in slime juice)
I might try this place again for their sushi, but I won't be coming back for their Chinese...

Why order Chinese here when I could order from Big Lantern, who also delivers, and I know the food will be better!?

Shiso makes me feel happy every time I go there; the service, although sometimes a little awkward (last time, our server did not understand what we meant by asking for "Daily Specials"), is very attentive and prompt.

The menu is a spread of sushi and Chinese dishes; the Chinese dishes are all family-style, so be prepared to share the plates unless you're feeling super hungry. The Ginger Beef and the Garlic Spinach had just the right amount of seasoning/flavors deliciously blended. Every day for dinner, complimentary dessert--and I'm not talking about fortune cookies here. Last time, we had a choice of mango pudding or fried ice cream. We went with the mango pudding, drizzled with a bit of chocolate sauce.

The location is convenient to Safeway at 30th and Mission; fairly quiet strip of the Mission here and parking seems okay in the evening. In general, Shiso is a cute little intimate place, definitely fit for the location in the city.

Their General Tso chicken is not General Tso Chicken.  It's wrong in a few ways. They don't use dark meat and it's not crispy. The batter they use is fluffy. Very disappointed. The rest of the food that I had is tasty. Delivery is normally under 30 minutes.

When these guys first opened, it was great to have them in the neighborhood. Love Japanese food and sushi even more. Food was fresh. Today, EVERY single time I call, they're rude, short w/me, put me on hold, the orders are long, I don't get a breakdown of my order when it comes even though I ask (hard to know if I've been overcharged) and I feel like a number NOT a customer. It's as if they could care less whether I ordered from them or not and it always leaves a bad experience. So more often than not, I hang up and order from someone else. Doesn't seem like they care. Their unagi also doesn't taste as fresh as it used to - just doesn't seem like its fresh anymore and the service is pretty awful. It's a shame because I opt to go somewhere further because getting as many orders in is more important to them than keeping their existing customers.

Shiso has decent-to-very-good sushi available for delivery. I have not been disappointed yet.

Unfortunately, I ordered their chinese food the other night and was awakened by a bad case of food poisoning. The culprit? I'd guess the pork bun, which someone else referred to on here as being "stale and re-heated, thick skin, smelled funny." That's what I get, I guess.

I've never had a problem with their food before, and I would still order their sushi.

Talk about a great concept...Japanese and Chinese all in one place.  There were 4 of us with very different tastes and eating habits, but we each found something craveworthy.  It's worth mentioning that Shiso delivered to us in the Lower Haight, so they probably have a pretty wide delivery radius.

My chirashi was on the small side, but the price was less than $12 so I'm not complaining.  The fish was buttery soft and excellent quality.  Even the sushi rice caught my attention...it must have some kind of secret ingredient because it was the most flavorful sushi rice I've ever had.

We shared a plate of salt & pepper calamari and a stuffed mushroom appetizer.  Even though the calamari had cooled off a bit in transit, it was still a hit.  The stuffed mushrooms were kind of crazy, but in a good way.  They had been stuffed with crab, then battered and deep-fried tempura-style and drizzled with a delicious brown sauce.  Decadent.

I hope they deliver to my neck of the woods, because I definitely want to explore more of their offerings.

This is a bad review having never tasted their food. Why? because I ordered food for delivery and the food never came. I was so excited about it too, but the lady had told me 45 minute wait and I was okay with that. An hour and a half later, still nothing. I call and say, "what's up with my food?" and the lady on the phone says she will call the driver. I call back five minutes later and she says "oh, he so close. five minute."

"five minute? is this the same as your version of 45 minute?"

She offers me three dollars off of my meal. No way. I wanted a refund. After a bit of a fuss, I get them to cancel my order. So I can't say anything about their food, but I can say that if you are starving and want some food delivered you'd better make a night of it.

I absolutely agree with G Funk Er A.!  Every time we order food delivered from them, we swear that it would be our last.

The sushi I ordered had bland tasting sushi rice... hey did you people take a sushi making course that tell you to add vinegar and sugar to the rice?  Duh?  No zing.  It looked like sushi, but didn't deliver on the joy factor.  Plus the seaweed tasted cheap.  It had no snap.

My husband ordered the sesame beef, took a few bites, and ended up staring at it for a long time before deciding to eat some more.  He said it "wasn't the best" that he had.

I think sushi is sacred; the sushi experience is sacred.  I don't think I'm going to waste my money or "sushi anticipation" to get disappointed.

    Bland, bland, bland, bland, bland

Shiso is a great place for good, cheap sushi. I don't know much about the Chinese menu, since I never tried anything from it.
I love any place that gives LOTS of edamame when you order it. The vegetable tempura is awesome, and they have a nice selection of veggie sushi rolls. The agedashi tofu and the sauce it comes with is yum! (I hum "Killer Tofu" by the Beets whenever I order that -- You know... from Nickelodeon's "Doug"? Yeah, you know what I'm talking about...)

Plus, the staff here is super nice... and free delivery for my lazy ass! Hooray!

Love the fact that they have really good sushi/Japanese dishes AND really good Chinese dishes.  Never been to the restaurant but have ordered delivery from them plenty.  The sushi is always fresh and the portions generous.  Delivery is usually ahead of schedule.   Nice touch that if you order $25 or more worth of food they'll give you a free order of fried rice, a California roll or chow mein.  I always opt for the chow mein because then my dinner delivery turns into dinner, lunch, and still enough left over for a late night snack.

Always friendly on the phone, delivery folks are great.  For quick and tasty sushi and Chinese in SOMA, you can't get much better.

Only beef is that I've probably dropped $750 here by now and they still don't recognize my address or phone number when I call.  Where's the love?!  I figure after that much cabbage they'd at least have my info in their system.

So here's a Yelp effectiveness test: next time I place an order, I'm going to say the secret word so that, if they've read this review, they'll recognize me as the guy who's spent a ton of dough at their place AND given a good review.  Then hopefully they'll remember me.

    The secret word is "sasquatch."

Stay tuned to hear whether this ploy works.......

So, it sounds like this place was pretty bad when it was Fortune Cookie, and now that it's Shiso (but still, puzzlingly, a Chinese restaurant) it's no better. In fact, they still use the Fortune Cookie menus... which have no Chinese on them, just English. In hindsight, this should have been our clue to leave...

The food seemed like it was transported from some sort of Asian version of Bennigan's or Applebee's. The sesame beef was all breading, no beef (I'm not exaggerating... we're talking 1/8-inch-wide strips of beef in a 3/4-inch wad of batter) coated in a sickly-sweet sauce. It was like donuts in spicy syrup. The kung-pao chicken was rubbery, completely unspicy, and full of all sorts of vegetables that didn't belong. The hot-and-sour soup was reasonably decent, but the chicken in it was gross: flabby, gristly stuff that had been brined to death. Even the rice was odd.

    All in all, yuck.

Every time we order for delivery from them, we swear it's the last. Why? Tofu that tastes like tofu. Flavorless soup. Really greasy (and breaded--WTF?) salt and pepper spareribs. The free eggrolls and edamame that come free with orders over $16? Pretty sweet. And they have brown rice. And their delivery is Superman-fast. And cheap.

Have to agree with the other Yelpers--if you can make it out for better Chinese, do. If you're feeling homebound, this'll do. You'll just have to Kikkoman the hell out of your dishes.

So it sounds like this place has undergone some changes and it's almost not fair to keep the old reviews here. I've had their Chinese takeout and been unimpressed. But I decided to stop in for their sushi and was pleasantly surprised.

Compared to all the sushi joints in the Mission, this place was a great value. Of course I only had veggie stuff, but I've been to places like Minako and gotten a string bean on rice for $6, whereas for the same price here I got this delicious avocado, eggplant and tempura roll that was huge. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but stop by if you're in the 'hood.

The quality of the food delivered is directly connected to how long it takes to get to my door.  Sometimes, right off the stove, and my house is the first stop.  Excellent!

Sometimes, I'm on the tail end of stops, and my food has congealed.  Bummer!

Well, I suppose I should order food that won't congeal in the car on its way to me.  So (sigh) I will accept that I can control at least part of this equation.  Usually, they're to my door within 30 minutes.  Usually.

Order Placed: Monday @ 8:40 pm
Estimated Time till Delivery: 45 Minutes
Actual Time of Delivery: 1 Hour (9:45 pm)

Phone: Answered quickly, no loud noise in the background, I understood the speaker easily and she understood me

Driver: Nice, called to say he was here (my doorbell doesn't work)

Miso Soup: Disappointingly small size, but delicious!

Poki (with Walu): Holy cow that's tasty! This is not a hawaiian-style tuna poke, but something just as delicious-- Great sauce, love the sprouts & mango. It's a bit of a tower of onions, though, so watch out.

Both the Alaska roll & the Rock-n-Roll were super-tasty. The Spicy Scallop roll was a bit too spicy for me, but I'm a wimp. The Sashimi was pretty good, too, tho the salmon was a bit thin.

I'll definitely order from them again, when I don't need it right away.

This isn't five star dining, per se, but the food is delicious, it's quality, the wait staff is friendly, and the food is more than reasonably priced. In fact, I have no idea why this has two dollar signs. It should have one.

I used to order delivery from here all the time a few years back when I lived with a Vegan roommate. This place actually has a number of awesomely tasty dishes for animal-free eating; for instance, General Tso's Meatless Chicken is a dish full of spicy, sweet balls of goodness with nice stalks of broccoli all around. And the best part is the price: $6 per meatless entree. Amazing.

Most of the meat entrees are only a dollar more, and they're also great. I had the Mongolian Chow Mein Beef dish, and asked for it extra spicy. The noodle dish was sweet, savory, and definitely spicy, and I couldn't get enough of it.

Our bill came to $25 for three people with three entrees and drinks. They gave us complimentary tea and edamame to start. Shiso just may become a weekly dining place for me and my friends. Although, you might want to find someplace else to go if you have more than 5 people--the dining room is pretty small.

UPDATE: One of the waitstaff told me that if you call ahead, they'll arrange a table for six or more. :)

They make me love fake meat even more.  The kung pao meatless chicken is so good it makes me want to slap someone.  And, you get enough for at least 2 meals, so lunch & dinner are taken care of.  They also have the best lunch deal in town where you can leave this gem of a spot completely stuffed for $6.

I went here awhile ago with someone from New York that had moved to Orange County and was craving real Chinese food.  He ordered off the menu & just asked for some chicken with a brown sauce and veggies.  He said that what they gave him was the best Chinese he'd had in years.

They deliver super fast, so make sure you're home when you call in, or else they will beat you to your door.

My review is delivery only. I've had both the Chinese and the Japanese and both totally rock, rock, rock. Their food is five-star, but their delivery takes a while, and I often end up spelling my address over, and over, and over, and it's not a difficult street name. Last night they were super-duper busy, so it took an hour. However, the dude called me and said he was packing my order and leaving "right now," and when the food got to my place it was too hot to eat right away. Yay!

Shiso offers some highly unique and original Chinese food. The Sauteed Fresh Mixed Family Mushroom is a dish I daydream about when I'm not eating it. Phoenix and Dragon is delicate shrimp and large pieces of chicken in a light white sauce with lots of bok-choy-esque vegetables. Their pork fried rice (free with $20 order) totally rocks.

I'm not a big fake-chicken eater, but they offer a full menu of vegetarian delights with either fake chicken or tofu. Their Chinese broccoli in garlic sauce, the spicy eggplant, and the asparagus in black bean sauce are all excellent.

STIR YOUR HOT AND SOUR SOUP. I had some last night and thought, dang, this isn't as hot as I like. But when I got closer to the bottom of the bowl, whoo-wee! Ow!

As for the sushi, I didn't know what to expect from delivery sushi, but it's really quite good. I ordered it on Christmas, and hooray for them for being open so I could. The prices are quite reaonable and everything was super fresh. I ordered two different kinds of tuna things and they were melt-in-your-mouth yummy.

    Review of the Chinese Menu:
I ordered from Shiso for the first time a few weeks ago and was pleased with what I got.  Compared to all the takeout Chinese I had eaten so far in the mission it was by far the best.  A few weeks later my boyfriend and I looked it up on Yelp to read the reviews before ordering dinner.  I was really surprised to see what people were saying about the food.  I was afraid to order from them so we ate something else that night.  Last night I was really craving some cashew chicken so we bit the bullet and made the call to Shiso. Again I was impressed with the food.

I think the difference between myself and some of the other reviewers is that I don't expect a gourmet meal to be delivered to me in a box for 6.95 a dish. When I order take-out Chinese I expect to get takeout Chinese.  If I want REALLY good food I make the effort and leave my house.  Come on guys, be realistic and give Shiso another chance.  I think with an open mind you may find what you like.

Also, just in case I lucked out and ordered the only good items on the menu, I would suggest the kung pao chicken, the Cashew chicken, and the garlic eggplant.

I am giving Shiso 3 stars because we've only tasted the sushi and they have almost always fogotten to give us the free california rolls which are supposed to be thrown in with an order over $25.

The sushi is delivered to our door fairly quickly and it is pretty good.  We've never been disappointed with the sushi so we've ordered from there again and again.  On average, we probably order from there about once every other month or so.

I'd recommend this place to anyone wanting fairly good sushi delivered to their doorstep.  At first I was a little hesitant to order sushi for delivery. After all, I always watched as my sushi was made before my eyes and delivered to my plate straight from the sushi makers hands.  We took a chance on this place and were pleasantly surprised. ;)

    What I liked about Shiso:
    1.  They deliver to my neighborhood.
    2.  Food arrived hot and on time/early.
    3.  The menu had a large number of vegetarian options.
    4.  The fake chicken was pretty good, and the veggie dishes had a pleasant flavor.
    5.  Free chow mein.

What I didn't like about Shiso:
    1.  The pot stickers were very bread-ish and bland.
    2.  Food overall was quite greasy.
    3.  My dining partner and I had quite the case of gas after eating this food -- so much so that we refused to eat the leftovers!

Second time our delivery was pretty terrible. This was a while ago but I all I remember is cold and grease. I think it depends on the night and on the order.

so really, one 4 star night and one 2 star and we get 3.
